      @Kenneth Munyua 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Trying (and GKMC, tbh) say what's up.
      Awards are going to be awards, but the lengths it took for most folks to actually get down to and enjoy TPAB, for all it was, knocks the project a bit

    • @scipio2009
      @scipio2009 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @Kenneth Munyua there's a difference between simple and accessible music; ignoring that split does a disservice to the discussion.
      There was nothing "simple" about GKMC.

    As a Christian, your words are a breathe of fresh air. Judgement is the single greatest reason people are being pushed away from having a relationship with God and it’s incredibly sad to see. We need people of faith to speak truth like you did in this video and like Kendrick spoke of in this song. Jesus is about love, not judgment and rules

This coming from a guy who HATED the album at first listen because it was a different take from GKMC. But the album freakishly grew on me. The music, the concepts, and yes the features. But it wasn't just features from rap artists. These are actual musicians that made up a large part of the composition. Just look at the credits. A lot was put into this album, and a lot came out.

    So I have an interesting story about the first time I heard this song. I was a bit late to the listening party for To Pimp A Butterfly. It was a 2017 morning after a large part of a very busy highway overpass burned and collapsed, here in Atlanta. The culprit for this unimaginable structural destruction was said to be a homeless man by the name of Basil Eleby, for which he was accused of starting a fire that soon ignited the tons of stashed polyethylene pipes that resided under the structure. Those who previously passed by this stretch of highway were very aware of this stash the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) for years. Mr. Eleby eventually would get the arson charges dropped and GDOT was in part deemed responsible for knowingly storing highly flammable materials in that area. On the morning drive into work, I'm giving TPAB a full listen and How Much A Dollar Cost hits my car stereo. I was mesmerized by the parallels of the said event with a homeless man wrongly at the center of the story and this masterfully crafted Kendrick track revolving around his encounter with a homeless man. How Much A Dollar Cost was looped on my playlist for just under 12hrs...straight...from the time I first heard it that AM. Kendrick is a living legend.

    Hip hop is vivid in its stories depending on which hands the tools are put in.
    Take "Gucci Gang" by Lil Pump, compared to "Gucci Gang" by Joyner Lucas; giving him every break and assuming him a genius, Lil Pump basically made a "deconstruction of a hit rap song" (similar to Picasso's Deconstructed Bull).
    I doubt that that was the intent though.
    A lot of hip hop is just for the sounds, tbh

      Only a handful of artists block songs only, vids are a different story. The record company/artists monetizes our video so they get their money everyone wins

    I watch all of your videos. I like listening to both of your comments. You both get deep into the meaning of the lyrics. The artist is trying to tell a story and the lyrics do having meaning, but I have to be honest, the music has the kind of vibe I am not into that much. Shawn, I know you have said you are more into the lyrics of a song. I understand the importance of a lyric, but I'm more into the melody. If a song has a great melody then it really grabs me. You gave this a high rating. I prefer your wife's rating on this song. Actually I would rate this about a 7.0 mainly because of the style of music. Hope you don't mind my honesty in my comment.

      Honesty, it depends on my mood, sometimes I don’t care about lyrics and I want to hear a beat, but most of the time I prefer the lyricism, because music is something to learn from. That said, the melody in this song was fantastic and the beat was perfect for the subject matter. The interlude provided a perfect break from the verses and a moment to think about what is going on in the song. But to each their own

      Appreciate the kind words. All these morons screaming the loudest are the minority of people in this country. The problem is their leader screams louder than anyone and they feel emboldened to do the same but they are a small percentage. We can only hope at some point human decency wins!
