This is gorgeous! You addressed several issues I’ve been trying to resolve - I’m doing something similar with some of my prints, but mounting them on stretched canvas instead of a box panel. (That process has some hair-raising moments as well!) The end result is very lightweight and easy to handle, but I haven’t been 100% satisfied with my surface protection solutions. Your gloss medium, steel wool and cold wax treatment is an answer I have been looking for. Thank you so much for this video!
So simple and so effective! Glad I could help and hope this works out for you 🤗
You are amazing! ❤
Aaaah thank you 🤗
Thanks for the clear demonstration of preparing a print and a functional frame. It looks great!
Thank you, glad you found it useful 🙌
What wonderful satisfaction in this piece, your artwork, framed in your own handmade frame. Very nice!
Thank you. I feel like it’s part of the creative process and a nice way to finish the artwork 😀
PVA is fine to adhere your artwork to the panel, and the medium may not be strong enough if you’ve worked on heavyweight paper. I also seal the print with an isolation coat followed by Gamblin’s satin varnish. I’m impressed with your own frame, though! 😊
Thank you Diane, that’s really helpful. I also add UV varnish for better preservation. Yes, my framing is improving 😎🥳🤗
I have wax varnished prints, but not used an isolation coat. I had Akua intaglio ink mix with the varnish ( a mess!!). With Cranfield Caligo inks it’s been fine without an isolation coat. Are you able to advise in which situations an isolation coat is necessary and why? And does the isolation coat need to be gloss, why ? Thanks
@@jennybourne309 all very good questions! With akua inks you have to probably wait a bit longer. My prints were made several weeks before. Ink does make a difference, you’re right. I prefer using gloss varnish with wax as it gives you a really nice finish but you could probably use Matt medium first. The isolation just protects the print and seals it. Since you are not using glass sheet it’s better for the artwork. Hope this helps
Fantastic. Loved this video. 😊. Will be back for more.
Amazing! See you soon 🤗
Hi Marta - really helpful, timely video - Thankyou so much for sharing😊. The tip for using wax after wire wool to damp down the gloss - much appreciated. My husband had a go at making a box frame for me recently and instead of using the masking tape to hold glued corners together, he bought some inexpensive ‘corner clamps for woodwork’ from Amazon - he said worked a treat. How deep was your panel and frame moulding please?
Hi Tricia, thank you really glad you found it useful. Corner clamps sound like a great option I will have a look on Amazon. Here is the link to all the details of my moulding:

@@CollagraphPrinting Thankyou Marta 😊
Thank you so much for this Marta. I've really been seeking a clear guide to making a box frame for my art and you have hit the spot perfectly. I'm working my way through all your wonderful videos as I'd love to have a go at collagraph printing too.
There is a much simpler mitre block available from Stanley but, from your experience, would it be better to have the adjustable version? I don't want to buy the cheaper one if it won't do the job but presumably the angle is always going to be 45 degrees so it shouldn't matter?
Firstly thank you so much for watching my videos, so nice to hear you are enjoying them 🤗
I know what you mean by the simpler mitre box. I know a lot of people use it and it is sufficient. I bought the adjustable one as I don’t have a saw so I thought I might as well. But if you have the saw already then it makes sense to just get the box. Hope the framing goes well 🤞
@@CollagraphPrinting Cheers Marta, much appreciated. I'm fairly local to you so will keep an eye out for any of your exhibitions.
@@judybrass3068 amazing would be so nice to meet you! I will be exhibiting and doing a free demo at Mill Tye in Sudbury in June!
@@CollagraphPrinting OK, thanks. I will keep an eye out for that. I'm near Huntingdon now but lived in Hadleigh for many years and know Sudbury too. Bury St Edmunds is one of my favourite market towns. Good luck and thanks for your time and for sharing so generously.😊
