A family friend went there last year, a particular 67 chevelle he was interested in came up for auction, he bid, but lost to another buyer, this family friend"s father tracked down the buyer of that Chevelle, he bought it for 10,000 over what the guy paid for it at the auction. The family friend had a birthday last fall and his father surprised him with the Chevelle he lost at the auction, After getting it home and upon closer inspection, the build was obviously a quick flip it for a profit deal, rode terrible, a really pretty paint job sure covered up all the flaws that car had, he paid 60,000 for a car that was maybe worth 20,000 tops, you gotta be careful buying anything at an auction
Give me the price of the on the matchless for PSA 500 single show me the price on them look at them more I like single cylinders keep your video on a single cylinders
Did that once at a car auction......two identical cars.....one after the other....the one wanted was actually the second one.....ended up mistakenly buying the first......had double the mileage and was a pig inside. Brought it home sold it a day later.....broke even 😂. Sometimes it cost $$$ to learn
the rear view of the Montesa seat/fender sides... how the sides and top are sculpted with the flats at the rear sides. everything about the bike is art. the colors are good and gaze upon the fork lowers. you have know Karate to get your leg over it. just look how beautiful it is. didja look?
Spent 50 years at auto auctions buying thousands of vehicles. The auctioneers job is to get as much as he can. Have watched buyers bidding against the Coke machine, many times.🤣
Thanks for the three wheelers Dave. Sweet units 86 and 87 where the last two years after that they got outlawed the 87 ATC350r is the Mecca of them all but for 250s those are the mecca in 86😮
The three wheelers there were not both 86 your model. The one with the black engine was an 85. Noticed that the seat and the engine color is different on both along with a lot of other small items. Those were not produced in 87. Same with the 350 X, produced an 85 and 86 in the US or for the US market.
Great job on presenting the vibe and feeling. Even when one tries to do diligent homework beforehand, then the action and distractions begins. Takes discipline and restraint. And gawd knows whats happening with online plus potentially the auction house can bid to sale for the consignor. Goofy cost for bidder paddle. Then top it off buyers premium, taxes, etc.
I love the bultaco 370. Back in the 70s In Central Valley just North of Redding California , Where I grew up, there was an older guy who had a couple of cool bikes. one of them was this one. I believe the other one was a big mako!! I'm 57 So these bikes were relevant at the time.
I believe a proper deal is where buyer and seller alike are both happy and can shake hands on an honest deal. not where the auction company holds the buyers hole open so the seller can stick it in right up to the elbow. Many models are now out of reach to average enthusiasts because of this. If you see a TH-camr saying Auctions are GREAT, they getting PAID
What I know about high-end auto auctions they are geared and they are catering to the wealthy if you want the best you're going to pay the most if you were looking at a thousand-dollar Bultaco motorcycle it could end up costing you $20,000 or even 30,000 I saw a Kawasaki 900 go through with 53,000 that raises the value of those motorcycles on that one sale if you got the money go to where you'll spend it otherwise you're better off beating around and beating the bushes looking for bargains going to bike shows going to flea markets don't go to these high-end auctions but you will get high quality and you will pay double retail and sometimes even triple retail pay up or don't go there
You got to check out Hogan cycles in Agawam MA if ever in N.E. King of bultaco and ossa. Bob is i believe 90, shop is selling everything since his stroke few yrs ago. Very limited shop hours only open a few days for few hours. Been doing motorcycle since 1955
Dave, someone STOLE that XR, about half book value, I hope this is not the trend for our collectable bikes Yikes! Value not in stock bikes now?, maybe the custom, modified bikes do better in this new climate? Thanx for the legwork, you're looking good in 24👍👍
@@bullpencycles yeah, I could not believe it. You shouda, coouda, wouda checked what the average retail price is on your I phone when you were looking at it. Bet the seller is sick w/ the low $8K reserve.
Prices getting better. Save some dry powder. Back in 09 "Kates" ,an associate, bought 1/2 million dollars of everything with an SS on it. Ya, he kept them and sold in 2019. Timing is the currency of life. Learn this or lose.
Well, yes. technically that is the law. Anything bought or sold in Florida is supposed to have a title. Except some states did not issue titles for road bikes back in the old days. Most states did not issue titles for off-road bikes until the mid-2000s. So now most states require titles - but won't always issue them if you have insufficient documentation. Thats why it's important to always check the status. These antique bikes create a huge problem when it comes to compliance.

Not yet. That's an inventory bike for sale, i.e. no mods. I will be heading up north to demo one and shoot a vid. We have one all farkeled out with some aftermarket stuff
Over 40 years ago, State of ILL selling dealers had C.O. (cert of origin), required buyer info and processing fees collected to get a title, even on dirt / enduros. Then for used, the often problem was lost titles. Seller were to get a replaced title (or) buyer could get a reissue from B.Sale and put up a specified sum bond. Though most young fellows said screw it, and paid cash for a dirt bike, with bill of sale. They'd lose that too. Rinse and repeat. Lol
Dave, I know this is a off the wall statement, but If they ever do a movie about "Ron Jeremy", you know, "Life & Times", your almost a dead ringer, neck up. Call Hollywood.
You got a good deal. That Montesa I believe was a 414cc. I almost bought one 40 years ago. Kaplan America would sell all those bikes for twice the price.
Are we brothers from another mother? Wearing Triumph Tshirts but riding Bultaco’s? If you are in Texas drop by to see my Bultaco drag bike. Videos on my channel. We built it to beat my Son on his Ducati 900ss. Nice tactic on buying the wrong Bultaco by the way… but honey I bought the wrong one!

Mecum and honest don't belong in the same sentence. Don't worry Dave, you got the big bore for peanuts!
Yeah, I think both of those big bores. The Pursang with the #207 and the 414cc Montesa! Both
SWEET!@@bullpencycles
Got the Big Bore for peanuts? If you consider peanuts paying for 2 bikes to get one.
They are both big bores, not one.Yeah, peanuts!@@geedubb-q1u
I had a Bultaco sherpa trials bike back when they made them in a barn on a farm. Made a believer out of me.
That was pretty early then!

That Bultaco 370 is probably my favorite. I love the blue color. These prices still blow me away! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
The prices actually were from fairly reasonable to low, at least by Mecum standards
Opps on the mixup! Hope you made out ok on it. Thanks for taking us along with you!
All good. Thanks
nice video man, and I love the way you replied to comments here..real gentleman..I hope you got what you wanted..it was so hectic I wasnt sure...
Thank you. I did. I wanted that Pursang but boy, that XR1000 went too cheap
That's gotta be the most annoying way to buy a bike.
It's like being inside a slot machine.
At least they did not have the beat box drummers this year

Mecum squeezes the middle 10% buyer fee, 5% seller fee. A cool place to look at cars and bikes, occasionally a good buy mid-week.
Yes. I did not know how much the seller fee was. I have never sold through them but I do have some that could go. Its just a bit too chaotic to try.
Seller fee is 10% also

Yes. It was +$500 minium buyers fee
I'm from England and have watched Precums auctions for quite a while now !!,..Strange how the Bultacos have the side stand on the right side !
The stands are removable. They fit in a square holder. The first could be fit on either side, left or right
370 Frontera my favorite. Had one years ago
Yes, that's a good one

I think every venue has it pitfalls and mostly the bikes speak for themselves. I've seen some crazy stuff here at both ends of the spectrum.
The bultaco I hope I spelled right the old ones had gear shift on right side could never get used to that
Yes and Yes. Old Triumphs were the same way

Each day has it's own ebb and flow.
Rule #1 at the auction you look But you do not touch.
Nope, not in the rule book there, but the sign on the bikes did say Do Not Start.
Stand up guy. He bought the wrong bike but didn’t try to back out just signed and moved on to the next bike :)
That's one I cant pin on them. It was my fault.
I thought you said you were making the trip because tacos, what a waste when you went for Bultacos

Yup

Yes, but it seemed less of that this morning. Bids did not collapse and restart from the beginning. It was pleasant today.
