    Here are some other really good things for allergies and bronchial issues:
    Bromelain - An enzyme extracted from pineapple has a strong anti-inflammatory effect that lasts a few hours. Half a pill (250mg) under the tongue (to more quickly absorb the enzyme into the bloodstream) is quite effective.
    Fish oil - Keeping a favorable dietary Omega-3 to Omega-6 fatty acid ratio is extremely important in managing inflammatory conditions. (raw garlic is also quite effective). Evening primrose oil - This oil supplies a fatty acid (GLA) which can have a positive anti-inflammatory effect. It’s a traditional treatment.
    A beneficial effect is from a about a 1000mg dose. Magnesium Citrate - Magnesium helps keep smooth muscle fiber and intercostal muscles in the lung relaxed.
    Other great things:
    1. Apple Cider Vinegar
    Apple cider vinegar is an age old remedy that is often suggested for a variety of health conditions. Its ability to reduce mucous production and cleanse the lymphatic system makes it useful for allergies. It is also said to help digestion, weight loss and more.
    2. Neti Pot and Saline Rinse
    3. Quercetin
    Quercetin is a natural bioflavonoid that is said to help stabilize mast cells to keep them from releasing histamine. It is also a potent antioxidant that is said to help reduce inflammation. It is best used as a long term remedy and many people start taking it about 4-6 weeks before allergy season to help prevent allergy symptoms.
    As with any herb, you should check with your doctor before using, especially if you have a liver problem.
    4. Nettle Leaf
    Nettle leaf is another natural antihistamine that can be very effective as it naturally blocks the body’s ability to produce histamine. It grows in many places and can be made in to a tincture or tea, but for allergy relief, capsules made from dried nettle leaves are the easiest and most effective option.
    Nettle leaf can also be used in combination with other herbs to make a soothing herbal tea for allergy relief. It is often mixed with peppermint leaf and sometimes red raspberry leaf to make a refreshing allergy relief tea.
    To Use: Either make a tea or use capsules for acute relief of allergy symptoms.
    5.Probiotics
    Allergies are the result of an imbalance in the immune system that causes the body to react too strongly to a stimuli. New research links the presence of beneficial bacteria in the gut with reduced incidence of allergies.
    6. Local Honey (local to your area)
    Local bees that pollinate in your area carry strong antibodies which are reproduced in both Honey and Bee Pollen. It must be from your indigenous area or it will not work
    7. Stinging Nettle. Often used as an allergy treatment, this botanical contains carotene, vitamin K, and quercetin. There’s some evidence that using stinging nettle after the first sign of allergic symptoms can help a bit. Be sure to choose extracts of stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) leaf, not the root, which is used to treat prostate troubles. Despite its common use, however, there’s not much research backing up stinging nettle’s effectiveness as an allergy remedy.
    These are just a few and combinations are also very effective.

      Just taking one now with my coffee. I have big big problems with post nasal drip, it has caused my larynx to be 2-3 times normal size and bright red. None of the nasal sprays or neti pot have any affect at all, it is super frustrating, I am learning classical crossover and fight a never ending battle. I guess you can't get much vibrato out of a larynx that swollen. Any further suggestions?

      Problem is, krill has been fished so much that the whales are now starving. It has to stop!

    STOP AND CONSIDER THIS:
    Most all singing programs out there show NO SINGING.
    NONE.
    Only "talk" with "testimonials" making crazy claims about their product.
    Yet NO ONE IS PROVING IT WITH ANY ACTUAL SINGING
    (and I mean songs, not a scale or a note - but truly singing great).
    The coaches aren't singing, the students aren't singing.
    Don't you think that is strange?
    Something worth thinking about on you singing quest.

      Ken, thank you so much for giving out all that important info! I thought pro singer is the lucky one that never struggled allergies or asthma. I was almost convinced I would have to give up singing in the future. But it is really necessary to build immunity as naturally as possible.

    @kentamplin  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    My suggetion is to try first cayenne pepper (1/4 teaspoon in a glass of water) second I would do sovereign silver nose spray with Danielle le Don grape seed extract spray. Finally I would follow it up with a couple of drops of tea tree oil in a coffe mug filled with hot purified water taking in the vapors through the nose. Flonase will wipe you out over time (and I mean a very short period of time)

    It sounds like you have mucous from cord separation which can be anything from allergies, post nasal drip, etc. Training this correctly will most definitely help that in fact one of the major components to what I teach clears musouc off of the cords

    if the throat is really sore it's ok, but anything that coats the throat can promote mucous and scraping the cords to get it off. It's temporary relief at best with a possible pricetag

  • @kentamplin

    I do most definitely but it's because I know how to do it correctly. It's one of the many things I teach in my course.

    You're right. I am not an ENT or a medical doctor. I battle sinus issues with regularity. I do this until I beat it down and it is manageable. When it flares back up, I do it again. I always do it the natural way as antibiotics have not helped me at all. On ths list, the only two things you can do more than 8-10 days is zinc and silver. The rest are fine.

      Great stuff, thanks Ken! I have been taking Echinacea daily for a couple years to keep my immune system strong and I use Zinc at the first hint of a cold or sore throat and it always helps. What about using Emergen-C Flavored Drink with 1000mg of Vitamin C?

      thebandcalledthread Only take echinacea when you're under stress or have been exposed to illness. I have read that using it daily makes your immune system step down and depend on the herb to do its job.

    Ken thanks for the great tips. You're program has improved me out of sight. Every time I get in the car now my 3 year daughter starts at me "papa put on Ken Tamplin" & she does the first free lessons with me. Over the past 6 months she has improved which blows my mind as I never tell her want to do. She told me she doesn't want to learn to sing that she wants to be a drummer because it's loud but little known to her she is learning to sing by listening to you so a big big thank you. Francis

    Those are good valid questions.
    I have been battling chronic sinusitus. I live by the ocean so it's hard to get rid of it. I beat it down and whenever I leave town it goes away but when I come back, it comes back. So you are hearing me deal with sinus issues. There are LOTS of things that cause GERD from spicy food to enzymatic disorders. Have you ever tried digestive enzymes first?

    great vid! also another thing about building confidence is to look at it like a skill. We aren't confident about playing tennis against a pro, but we'd be confident about hitting a ball against a wall. if you're unconfident, step it down a level to a level you're comfortable with. when that becomes easy we step it up to the next level. perform in front of a few friends who you're comfortable with first before taking it to the clubs if you aren't feeling good. thanks for the vid Ken!

    Nice one Ken.
    Been having an ever so slightly phlegmy throat for a while now; which I suspect may be allergy related.
    Going to try the Oregano oil to break it down!

  • @kentamplin
    @kentamplin  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    The VERY best way is juicing. 3 times per day. Just like what I said in my video.
    Good firm handful of spinach
    1 large clove of fresh garlic
    1 thumb size sprig of ginger
    1 stick of celery
    5 carrots
    1/4 onion
    You can also use Saline spray with Xylitol while doing this as it will help clear up your sinuses without the horrible nose sprays on the market.
    Really hot steamy showers while doing this help as well.
    Cayenne peper also helps for allergies / hay fever

  • @kentamplin
    @kentamplin  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Avoid cold fluids with meals. Cold beverages numb the stomach's acid-producing glands inhibiting digestion for several hours. The most important recommendation is to take 1 or 2 digestive enzymes with meals just before eating, with a few sips of water. Digestive enzymes are supplements that help break down foods. Chew all food carefully and slowly. This lessens the amount of churning effort your stomach has to do. Avoid caffeine before and after meals..

    yes but be careful because Ron had me do that exercise 20 plus years ago and I found that it not only can stress out the cords if done too much but also screw with larynx postions when ascending a scale. The reason it is coming from brrathing through your nose is because it is dripping from your sinus cavity. The nose itself isn't creating the mucous.

    Thanks Ken! I'll work on air control. The only thing that has seemed to help is making sure I spit out phlegm or mucous when possible instead of just "sniffling" so that seems to help along with drinking alot of water to clear the mucous faster. The only thing i'm searching for now is a temporary bandaid to keep my voice decent for an upcoming opertunity of recording an album while I work on quiting smoking and regaining my abilities.
    Possibly when I get better Internet with a faster speed (hoping this coming spring) I might consider your academy to improve on my skills.

    Thanks so much Ken! I'm a working guitarist and a lowered range vocalist. I nearly developed a vocal cord nodule, but it has disappeared. I think...No pain or increased fatigue anymore. The nodule came about from talking too much, too loudly, yelling. So not from singing! I would like to finally LEARN how to sing like a pro, but I worry about aggravating a dormant nodule.

    This is great information. I often have mucous on my vocal chords. I am going to try some of these things. I just signed up for Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp and my singing has mostly been crooning. I'm going through your videos here hoping I can get some tips on how to turn from Karen Carpenter to Sammy Hagar ;-) I know it won't be easy because my vocal chords are 58 years old.

    Ken I live in venice beach, ca I am from new York originally, I moved out west to be a singer songwriter, I have been playing guitar since I was 10 im 27 now and LA is a tough city, the music scene isn't what it used to be and the record industry is dead, but I do love music to the point where I do it for the passion and the love, I pick up my guitar everyday and put my soul and my emotions into it, My father and mother are both out here with me and are both terminally ill I wont get into details but Its been a tough road, I Have seen these chemtrails everyday in California around the coastal areas and inner city areas and no one bieleves me People keep telling me its just contrails but I know its not why would planes fly in this type of pattern its crazy, I have had a major bacterial infection for 3 weeks I took amoxicillin and a zpack and I am still sick, and I never get sick, well I used to never now it seems like all the time. I have never had a flu shot and I don't bieleve in them.

    Caffeine speeds up stomach churning, making it more likely the contents of the stomach are pushed upward .Avoid eating until full. Stop eating when you feel satisfied (80% full). Look into "food combining" - a way of combining foods to improve and simplify digestion. \

    Local (to you) bee pollen is excellent for allergies as well because bees have already built up anti-bodies to "local" flora. When you ingest it, your body takes on the immunities from the bees that have done the work for you. If it's not locally "grown" to you it will not work.

    Hey Ken. I have a question. It also involves cigarettes. I had a fairly decent singing voice and knew how to really stretch my voice in a comfortable way and reach 3 1/2 to almost 4 octaves, Starting off with a natural baritone speaking voice as well as having a deviated septum. But after our "group" went into hiatus I stopped singing and kind of fell into a depressed state and started smoking. I've smoked for almost 4 years now and am wanting to slow way down if not eventually quit (in hopes to sing good again). But my question to you is this "when I sing I get a tickle in my throat which makes me cough, which makes me unable to sing or sustain, how do i regain my voice and lose the tickle in my throat?" and also note when I try to sing high sometimes (depending on my sinuses) I will "squeak out" and although my vocal chords and my brain say I'm singing the correct note, my voice is actually squeaking between notes as if it were wind blowing through a constricted space. Help me get back on track brother.
    Thanks,
    Lee
    P.s.
    If i was to have surgery to fix my deviated septum in my nose would this help with my voice?

      @kentamplin  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Lee, smoking completely dries out the full olds and eventually turns them into leather. During the process of this when someone is trying to sing they find it necessary to use more and more air and pinch the vocal folds tighter and tighter in order to get phonation. It takes quite some time to restore resiliency flexibility and elasticity back in the cords. The only way to do this correctly is understanding the art of holding your breath when you sing and allowing the vocal folds to be in a very relaxed state. I cover this thoroughly in my course

    Good tips, I take quite a few supplements and juice carrots, but haven't used some of the stuff you do, but they sound interesting. I like the "Now" brand as well.
    What do you think of coconut oil for oral health? I've find it to be great for the skin and seems to work well as a natural mouth wash.

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Coconut oil is excellent in fact pulled oils like this cure many gum diseases etc. Use coconut oil, a little tea tree oil and a small amount of stevia (and add a little baking soda if you need to) and you have an excellen ALL natural tooth paste that can actually heal absesses etc. by "pulling" infection out of the body.

    Basically, avoid mixing starch (bread, rice, potatoes, pasta) with animal protein (meat, fish, dairy, eggs) in the same meal. This practice helps the stomach process food faster, and keeps it from lingering in the stomach for too long

  • @kentamplin

    I'm not sure I'm understanding your message? Mucous comes from something not working right in the body. We need to identify that and deal with it.

    Great video Ken. Really enjoyed this one. As a vocal coach and performer myself I have become a bit of a naturopathic doctor myself over the years and always pass ideas for supplements and natural treatments to all of my students. Organic all the way! I also like to do nasal irrigation with salt water too.

      :-) Something else that is excellent for getting rid of mucous is Marshmellow root tea..

      @@kentamplin I agree - I buy it loose and I believe it helps partly because it is mucilaginous. Other mucilaginous stuff I consume is: slippery elm, chia seeds, seaweeds (kombu, kelp), flaxseeds, okra, figs, fenugreek, & licorice root.

    Hey Ken, thanks for the video. Learned a lot of do's and don'ts. I have some sort of problem that makes me clear my throat of mucous every 2 minutes or so and a lot more often when I sing. I was wondering what you would recommend for this since my allergist was even stumped by it.

    Great info. I would also suggest viewers take a look at Standard Process' Zymex and Zymex II for dealing with systemic yeast overgrowth. Better for long term management than diflucan. Other inexpensive probiotics are kefir (coconut water based for singers wanting to avoid dairy) which you easily make at home and drink fresh daily. Have to purchase a proper water based culture - recommend Cultures for Health for starter. I'm a PhD bacteriologist that worked in probiotics and starter cultures for years. The Zymex product was recommended to me by an MD endocrinologist. Lastly look at making elderberry syrup at home (cost effective and easy). Dried berries can be bought thru Amazon.Thank you Ken for spot on info.

    This is years and years of not "allowing" myself to get sick on the road because if a guitarist gets a bad flu or cold it's not that big a deal (from a performance standpoint) if the singer does, it may cost thousands of dollars and a lost show. Learning to avoid that was my goal. :-)

    Amazing videos Ken!! You are AWESOME!!! Must have watched 50 in the last few days, haha. Not so much a singer as I am trying to be a TV/film music composer. I have a few dozen instrumentals that I would love to have a chance at being considered by a music supe. Any ideas?? Already a TAXI member and 5 years later nothing's been signed yet :(
