I just finally beat this game 2x through today. Then i watched your video, amazing stuff! No clue how you figured out the jumps from taking damage in the second to last stage but wow that's an incredible shortcut. No big heads spawned!
Congrats on beating the game, that in itself is already an accomplishment! I didn't figure that out, it is known for a few years now. Unfortunately I don't know how found that one. But you are right, that one makes the stage not only faster but soooo much easier. More often than you would think speedrun strats make it actually a lot easier than harder ;-)
Us kids back in the 80's and 90's paved the grounds for the kids of today to do their speed runs in games that took us years upon years to just beat the game. I remember back a long time ago before the internet beating this game. It was no easy feat and I had no other friends who could even beat the first cycle. These guys come along and make it look easy. This kind of stuff is from decades upon decades of playing these games with 100,000 people all putting their minds together in an effort to squeeze every second they could from these games. Finding these glitches were from accidents and bugs that ended up being used to save time. I am impressed with all these speed runners of today. They are taking up the mantel of what we did when we first got these games. And now they are making this shit look easy. When it took me 3 years to just beat the game fully. A grind that is mind bending. There is no way I could beat the game this fast. Even if I studied and watched every move for move. It takes a masterful skill I just no longer have in my older age. Not only the skill and speed of youth, but also the luck of the draw. I love this stuff!

I just beat the next to last board on the second loop with the 2 bosses. Hardest game I played. Did it without the glitch trick but I did use the glitch trick you showed on that 2nd stage goblin house. Congratulations for finishing. I will do the last board now and am hoping there's no sinister programming code that sends me back to the beginning.
haha :D the knife is overrated, no need for it :P getting the knife on loop 2 is just cause you NEED to change weapons and the knife is the first one to drop, lance would do just fine. torch would be annoying for the unicorns tho...
@@gokuuzumaki70 yes and no. There's no debate that the knife is just superior to the lance, Lance is just a worse dagger (although one arremer quick kill in stage 3 is actually easier with lance cause it travels slower). The torch on the other hand is superior to the knife against the later bosses because its' arc makes it a lot easier and faster to hit those bosses flying around over you. That's pretty much the reason why the knife is switched out against the torch on the second loop again. Of course the torch punishes you a lot more for mistakes and failed shots with the flames on ground preventing you from further shooting, so I can totally understand why people on their casual playthrough hate the torch ;-) One could also make an argument for the Shield (you could get it in stage 4 and keep it until the end of the loop) with the ability to block enemy shots but the low range is kinda annoying.

@@SamWiseTheGreat It is not that hard. It's mostly just memorizing where the enemies are and stuff. Playing the game without prior knowledge is tough, though.

A lot of people are surprised by that ;-) So first of all: all weapons deal the same damage, so no difference there, they differ in attack rate and the amount of shots allowed on screen though as well as the trajectory. The knife is known as the best weapon and that is casually true for sure. It's the only weapon you can have 3 shots on screen instead of 2 and it travels pretty quickly across the screen. Definitely the best for certain parts. Torch casually feels like a bad weapon for many because you get punished hard by missing which leaves the flames on the ground for several seconds and it still counts as having the shots on screen, so you cant shoot again with 2 flames on the ground. As a speedrunner I (hopefully) dont miss too often, so that isnt an issue. what makes the torch so good and preferred is the trajectory. The upwards arc makes it possible/easier to hit all these bosses that keep flying above you. you wouldn't get certain hits in on the dragon and satan bosses with the knife because it just flies straight instead of upwards first. That's why even on loop 2 the torch is picked up on stage 3 before the dragon again. The torch is kinda awful against the unicorn bosses, so I wouldn't wanna have it for them. The Lance btw has a slower attack rate than the other weapons(you can't mash to attack fast, if I remember correctly lance has a "cooldown" of 12 frames while the other weapons have 8 frames), so lance is clearly worse than knife, no doubt. It's only used because you start with it and waiting/farming for a better weapon would be slow. fun fact: the torch is worse in the japanese version, having a slower attack rate(I think even slower than the lance but not sure)
@@karlhans6678 No, it is not. So generally all weapons deal the same damage and have roughly the same attack speed (the lance is definitely just a worse knife though). Knife is the only weapon which can have 3 projectiles on screen at once instead of two and is rightfully casually the best weapon, it is very easy to use. But the torch is absolutely superior against the Dragon and Satan bosses because it arcs upwards and those guys always fly above you, so often the torch can hit when the knife can't. The problem with the torch comes when you don't know how to play with it and miss a lot - missing will create a flame on the ground which counts for your 2 projectile limit, so if you miss two shots you have to wait for the flames to disappear before you can even shoot again. The worst weapon is by far the Axe btw :)

Thanks so much for the info, I'm just going to have to play around with my setup and get more familiar with it. I guess I'll have to get a Tink if I want to use my NES or SNES then.
Definitely a lot of time went into this ;-) I usually don't practice/play every day, I like to take days off to not burn out on the game/speedrunning in general. Part of me would like to know how much time I invested in every speedgame, part of me is glad that I dont know the numbers :D
You want to be as close as possible to the door when grabbing the key. If you stand directly beneath the key you have a longer walk to the door and lose a bit of time.
So those sections of wall that you walked through and jumped up to avoid the devils and when you walked off screen to avoid the 2 satan's, is that something you can always do?

If you mean the Arremer seemingly dying inside or behind me: The Framerate of this game is a bit wacky, so sometimes it takes a few frames to trigger the death animation since I killed him right in front of me, so it looks like he is flying straight through Arthur before dying. Hitting him like that is absolutely consistent though. also sometimes the hitboxes actually don't sync up properly and you don't get hit, I had an arremer fly straight through me and not hit me. But it is rare and definitely not something you can use or force.
They have the same health as always. All weapons deal the same damage and the Unicorn takes exactly 10 hits. So you just need to get down a good rhythm for attacking. Since you can only have 2 on screen, by standing close to the boss that is no issue. Lance is a bit slower attack speed than the knife but it barely makes a difference. Some enemies may have different health on the arcade, depending on which version (Arremers come to my mind, I think there is a version where they take 8 hits, sounds like a nightmare) but I'm pretty sure the Unicorn is 10 hits on Arcade as well.
maybe even more often... But seriously between first learning the game and this run were roughly 6 months, before that I only played and beat the game once a few years prior.

@@TheGodshatter last level can definitely be rough. If you have more trouble you could take a look at my speedrun tutorial, it might help you a bit in figuring it out.
Hut ab
The food review guy is making WRs now?
Food review?
That was a baddass run buddy.
5:21 - What the heck was that?
as long as you stay ducked while at the edge of the platform, you just stay ducked in midair after the platform turns around. It doesn't do anything but it is always fun to do.
@@Laxxus1 Pretty weird, pretty cool too. I'm currently playing this game for the first time since I was a kid and suffering miserably through it, you're a god damn wizard at it, I thoroughly enjoyed your video.
me my brother and friends fed this machine quartersas if our life dependedon it hell this machine should have shat out crisp one hundreddollar bills for years because of us ......what a waste hookers n blow would have lasted longer
I'm just curious of why you sped up the gameplay, I've been playing this game for years and I've never been able to move at such veracity
lol
If you don’t get hit you don’t lose veracity 🧋
5:31 what
If you mean the Arremer seemingly dying inside or behind me:
The Framerate of this game is a bit wacky, so sometimes it takes a few frames to trigger the death animation since I killed him right in front of me, so it looks like he is flying straight through Arthur before dying. Hitting him like that is absolutely consistent though.
also sometimes the hitboxes actually don't sync up properly and you don't get hit, I had an arremer fly straight through me and not hit me. But it is rare and definitely not something you can use or force.
ghost n ghouls is much better in graphics and game things....but this one its more scary its the original terror
Is Super Ghouls N Ghosts more of a remake of this or a true sequel?
It is a sequel, completely different game :)
Velho. Eu acho esse jogo dificílimo. Como pode.
Why does this have so little views?
Probably because I suck at using the right tags for it to be found on TH-cam :D

why do enemies seem so weak in this run? He killed 1st unicorn boss so quickly with just a javelin, how?
They have the same health as always. All weapons deal the same damage and the Unicorn takes exactly 10 hits. So you just need to get down a good rhythm for attacking. Since you can only have 2 on screen, by standing close to the boss that is no issue. Lance is a bit slower attack speed than the knife but it barely makes a difference.
Some enemies may have different health on the arcade, depending on which version (Arremers come to my mind, I think there is a version where they take 8 hits, sounds like a nightmare) but I'm pretty sure the Unicorn is 10 hits on Arcade as well.
Hardest fn game ever.
I would argue that there are several harder games on the NES ;-)
But it's definitely up there
This game looks so easy compared to resurrection
Try it.
you play this game 23462465 times over 20 years proably
maybe even more often...
But seriously between first learning the game and this run were roughly 6 months, before that I only played and beat the game once a few years prior.
The broad lycra considerably rush because shoulder unexpectedly puncture until a spotless yarn. apathetic, thankful milk
Exploiting bugs in the game.
yes.
all these runs are cheats lol. Bugging out in walls, ect. Its awesome but not really beating it legit the way it was intended. Still cool
Last Boss Was Too Easy, yet the game itself was hard growing up as a child in the 80s.
