@@fredwells7403 @mrultralight55 is making a reference to the U.S. Military. though frankly they sleep in pretty nice F.O.B. bunkers and barely ever bivvy, also they don't hike they drive. So the semantics of his argument is weak as well as the sentiment as the fact that someone can be someone's personal hero without being automatically compared to the U.S. Military. His subtextual argument that Robert Blalock is disrespecting the troops by his statement that Dixie is his hero is frankly just stupid.
I teach, I have had kids say i'm their hero.
I had my life saved by an EMT once, he is my hero.
Our troops live life in a hostile warzone, or provide back up and labor after a natural disaster, or keep illegal weapons and drugs from entering our borders, they are our country's heroes.
I just can't stand the bullshit, let's start a fight so I can show how much I love America, and freedom, and eagles and shit.
If you have received or retained a fifth grade education, you got the Context of Blalock's statement. "But the Troops...." just seems weirdly out of context.
Mr. ultralight is automatically stating that:
The teacher who talked a kid out of suicide that weekend isn't anyone's hero.
The Paramedics that save lives aren't heroes
The Basketball coach that inspires a kid to go to college isn't a hero.
A Step parent who comes in and deals with all the baggage and loves a child as if they weren't their own isn't a hero.
Heroes are people who make a difference whether it's to one person or a million. In the beginning of this quarantine, these thru hikers inspired me to get moving more and to do what it took to take my own adventure. consequently, I was 523 In January... I started with diet but once we started Quarantine in Mid MArch I started walking every day. My first walk I went a quarter of a mile. It's 3 months later and now I'm 418 and walking 3 miles a day, 5 days of the week and i get a mile and a half walk in on the off days. So to me these guys are my heroes because they showed me how rewarding it can be when you just get out there and do the damn thing.

I just finished watching this..it’s 11:39pm on May 20th here right now in Md...I’ve watched a lot of thru hiking videos over the past few months but nothing that compares to this. I felt like I was with you...the beauty at points took my breath away even sitting on my couch streaming this to my 65” tv. I paused the video several times just to enjoy the beauty. You are truly an Amazing woman!! I’m a grown man and I have to admit I teared up at the end when completed your Triple Crown!!! Thank you so much for taking us all along on this Adventure. Now I have to go back and watch all your other videos because this one just started playing after another video I was watching... Thanks again...I can’t wait to see what’s in store for you next!! Wow, that is one strong girl. I admire your determination and courage. Several dangerous parts, hair standing on end at 1:19:21, moose so close, bears, snow in Glacier Park. You did a great job of filming, editing. Even carried a drone. Best parts are Colorado and Wind River Mtns in Wyoming. Many places in video did not even have a trail. Lots of mountain goats in Colorado. You should be very proud of yourself. You will have this video and the memories forever. Life is not things but experiences.
