Hey Nathan, I saw your video 6 months ago and it inspired me to hike the PCT. In two days I have a one way ticket to San Diego and won’t have a return flight until I reach the border. Thank you for your story. I knew someone who had done it but I thought it was for crazy people. Guess I am crazy. Much love my brotha
Hands down one of THE BEST PCT docs. Like some, I doubted that I would watch the entire film (starting it late in the evening) but it was worth every moment. Masterful filming and editing. Music choices were perfectly matched to the scenes. Be proud of this film but equally proud of your journey. All the best to you in the future. Here's to more walks and more films.
I appreciate the kind words! Gonna put a smile on my face for the rest of the day. Hiking is an inseparable part of my life now for sure, this is not the end for me
Over the past few months I've been telling myself I want to do a big hike. Watching tons of vides learning the how-tos and gear knowledge. Went out and hiked over 15 miles one day and I felt better than ever. Made the decision that day to actually start the years long process to begin a big hike. Went home and ordered my first pair of real hiking shoes. I was giddy with anticipation for their arrival. I planned to go on a big walk as soon as they arrived. The next day, while sprinting through a heavily wooded area, I caught my foot hard on a tree root and avulsed my hamstring straight off my pelic bone. Super painful. The day I got home from the hospital after the surgery to reattach the tendon, my shoes were waiting for me on the porch. A little depressed now. I'm going to watch this movie with fingers crossed that it can help get me out of this.
Nathan, I’m 68 years old and I admire your bravery and tenacity. I worked hard every day of my life, yearning to do what you are doing now. Lol , now that I have the time and money, I’m too old and tired to do the things I’ve always wanted to do. I’m so happy to see that you are doing what makes you happy while you have the youth to enjoy it! Watching your video lifts my spirit and I’m so glad for you! ❤ Thank you so much for sharing your experience. 😊
Glad you enjoyed the film! And yes, while it is hard to get out there with age, I was amazed at the stamina of the 60+ year olds I met out there. Don’t count yourself out yet :)
That's probably because most people start in the South. After a while, you kinda saw everything and you just go on walking until your there. The first part is the experience, the second is finishing the job. At least for me it felt like that when I hiked the CDT. There are many pictures and many things to tell until I was emotionally done with the trail.
when i clicked on this video and then saw how long it was i said "no chance im watching this" ... here i am at the end 10000x more excited to do my PCT
The best! I live in the Canadian Rockies and I see beauty every day. This was the best video I’ve seen in a long time. You’re an amazing narrator, amazingly positive. Easy to listen to and so inspiring. Keep living your best life!
Being on MT Whitney for the sunrise as an 18 year old was a life changing event. As a 70 year old it's amazing how many times I think about that epic event in my life.
Nathan….if I wasn’t in my garage I’d give you a standing ovation. What a magnificent documentary, not just watching the scenery evolve but watching you evolve as well. I live on the PCT in Northern California and every hiker I see I offer a hand to. I wish you great fortune in all your future endeavors, if you approach everything with the same tenacity you will find success in everything you do.
Thank you so much!! Keeping trail angeling, you guys made this possible for me and restored my faith in humanity. And that’s the plan! Working hard every day. That’s some the trail has deeply instilled in me.
Great film mate for that is what is was. I've watched a few videos from the PCT and yours is the best. So glad you found it inside to continue when things were pulling you back. That is the essence of this type of story and you can use the experience to guide you through life's ups and downs.
My wife & I watched this one just this evening and we both have to say “ Awesome”!! Great mini documentary and accomplishment. In 1980 when I was 20 years old Two friends & I took a 3 week trip up into Eastern Sierras from here in San Diego county & just backpacked & hiked all over , even attempted to summit Mt.Whitney, but we got chased off the mountain by Mother Nature in one of her Weather changing moods . On top of bare rock at almost 14,000 feet is no place to be when all Hell breaks loose , and a Thunder & Lightning storm begins raging all around you . Thanks to your video here I was instantly transported back to those days of my youth over 43 years ago . Unfortunately my two Friends from that Summer are no longer with us as they left this world for that great Hiking path in the sky , but I’m still here , by the Grace of God , and that Memory is still very vivid in my mind . I never Did get to fulfill my Own dream of doing the Pacific Crest trail from beginning to end , but have had the opportunity to hike small sections here in San Diego / Anza Borrego areas & that 3 week trek all those decades ago . You had a life changing adventure my friend , and trust Me , it WILL stay with you forever . 😎👍
HI Nathan. My name is Mark "Panting Deer". I hiked the PCT in 2019. I have seen many, many documentaries about the trail life, and I just want to say you made the best docu so far. It is a movie !!!! I liked seeing all aspects of the trail including the mental part and how it changed your mind. (Believe me, I am still not the same). Again. Congrats.... impressed. !!!
@@nathanoutside Next year I return. I cannot get it out of my mind. The trail broke my heart (literally). I had a fall at Red Pass and ruptured some muscles of a heart valve. Walked around with that for 3.5 years. Had heart surgery last year, so 2024 is the time to return...... As far as it takes me....
Amazing!!! This is by far the best PCT documentary we've ever seen! The videography, the music, especially your personal narrative of your trials and triumphs. So well done on so many levels. We are now planning our 2025 PCT thru hike and your incredible piece of work has been a great inspiration!! Thank you so much for sharing!❤️
Nathan, just finished your documentary and wanted to say you had my full attention for an hour and 30 minutes. You did an incredible job creating and editing a story with ups, downs, and the reality of your experience. It felt honest, refreshing, and complete. Thank you so much for sharing your journey and wish you many happy trails ahead, wherever you decide to go :)
This literally gave me the chills for the whole documentary. Beautifully done, I've always known I've wanted to do the PCT and I've decided that 2025 will be my year to do it!
Nathan, I'm only 30 minutes into this, but it's an incredible achievement to have taken the footage and edited this so masterfully to show your journey. I will be finishing this over the next few days. BTW, my interest came because my son completed the PCT in 2019. We had thought he should wait a year or two and work and save money, but as you say, your time is limited. We didn't know that 2020 would bring the pandemic. In retrospect, it was good that he did it when he did! Yes, he completed it as well!
Awesome production! Very enjoyable. AND thank you for not downplaying Oregon, my state. Most videos kinda zoom through Oregon and yours didn’t. Congratulations on your hike and keep on accumulating experiences! Take it from me, I’m almost 66, life flies by and nothing compares to the memories you make. Those you’ll always reflect back on and remember. 👍🏻👊🏻💪🏻😊
I don't know what to say that hasn't already been set on this board. You inspired This Old Man. Oregon is my hometown and you showed me more than I have ever seen. You have inspired me and you have inspired many others with your storytelling in your film work here. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
I had chores to do tonight but I threw this on my TV and I couldn’t do a single productive thing… 😅 Nathan, this was without a doubt one of the best videos I’ve ever watched. All encompassing of everything you could depict when traversing the PCT. Major props to you my friend for not only completing this journey, but taking us along for the ride. Thank you so much for the inspiration, reminding me why I love the great excursions in the outdoors, and motivating me to do a full PCT adventure!
Congratulations, Nathan on both your completion of the route, but also on a wonderfully produced film! Your editing, timing, music, dialog, and transitions are all of a high level, and I never would have finished such a lengthy video if it hadn't been so well done. Back in the 1970s, I dreamed of becoming the youngest person to ever hike the PCT, which had only been partly created at that time, with much of it being trail-less bushwacking and mountaineering. Eric Ryback from Michigan had just become the first person to complete it the year before at age 18, and written a book about it, which I devoured. I think I recall that his pack weight was around 80 lbs after very infrequent resupplies. When my parents found that I was seriously preparing to do this, they threatened to have me arrested as a 'runaway'. I've done a lot of backpacking, climbing, and mountaineering over my life, but never got the chance to hike the PCT (though I've hiked parts of it in WA). Thanks for your devotion to this project, and best wishes for many more adventures!
I didn’t think I’d watch the entire video given it’s length. But I was hooked after a couple minutes - you did an amazing job editing and bringing the viewer into your experience. This hit me in the feels. Not sure if I’ll be able to do the PCT but this was inspiring. Well done.
That is exactly what I was hoping to bring to people’s lives, thank you so much. Find a way to get into the wild every once in a while- the essence of the trail is out there!
After years of watching countless TH-cam videos, this is my first TH-cam comment. I felt compelled to share my admiration for your dedication and artistic touch because of the impact this video/journey had on me. Bravo, Nathan.
Your doc tops many other PCT documentaries that have dropped over the months and years . I can say its a favorite. so much attention to detail and many POV shots never shown in other videos.
Outstanding documentary video of the highs and the lows of hiking the PCT brother!! You have a gift of being a storyteller and I enjoyed every second of your video. Thank you for taking the time to capture the moments and to share your journey with us. Typically, I am doing other things while watching videos, but not this time. Had my undivided attention the entire time. Again, thank you. Felt like I was there!!
A realistic picture of PCT , you, life, injuries, disappointments, achievements, friends and family, adjustments and trail hopping. Many congratulations, an open account of your whole hike. Difficulties of starting later is the higher risk of fires and closures. You did it all.
Transparency about the whole experience was one thing I wanted to bring to the table-- glad you noticed it! And despite all those things, I wouldn't change a bit of it.
This documentary made me cry. I chose to move and pursue my career in a country with no mountains, and as someone who grew up hiking and camping with my family throughout the year in the PNW, this video made me feel like I was really back there again in the mountains and forests that I miss so much. You did an incredible job editing this and your words reminded me that even the bad days and the low points are part of this wonderful experience called life. Thank you for documenting your experience and congrats on completing the PCT! :)
I’m glad it impacted you in that way! I’m sure you’ll find your way back to the mountains some day. Those memories are precious and you should feel lucky to have them.
Dude. Excellent!!! Hiked many of the smaller sections that you showed in the Sierras and desolation wilderness. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed your video and congratulations on a once in a lifetime experience.
This is such a brilliant video. Thank you so much for sharing this! I think I can only manage section hiking the PCT but I want to do it’s entirety someday. Although I’m not sure if I want to do it for the challenge or so that I have great excuse for eating all of that junk food.😊
Nathan, this was such a great video! I am so thankful we made it to the alternate terminus together and I didn´t have to spent my last two days on trail alone. It already feels so long ago that sometimes I forget I even did it and watching your video and seeing myself hiking in front of you felt so surreal. Thank you for bringing back so many memories. Being amazed by the great views in your video I constantly had to remind myself that I saw all these things with my own eyes. It is so crazy that I started at the Mexican border just two days after you and didn´t see you for almost the whole trail but we still made it to Canada together. I hope you are doing well. Greetings from Germany!
Corinna!! I’m so glad we did that last stretch together, and that you found this video. I’ll never get over how awesome that last bit was and that I got to share it with someone so determined. Truly a priceless experience. Keep going on adventures and I hope we cross paths again one day!
Nathan I want to congratulate you on your success and I want you to know I appreciate it so very much. I would love to see the sites for myself, alas that’s not possible due to my health, but your video brought it to me thru your eyes. I’m so glad you were able to do this & I Thank you for the trip with you. I’ll watch for your next trail hike. I’m sure you have the hiking travel bug now. Again thanks for the wonderful sites.
What a wonderful world we’ve been given and what a beautiful documentary. Honestly, one of the best ones I’ve seen in a very long time. I run a movie theater and we’ve had guys going on tour with their travel documentaries but I swear not a single one was as good as yours. This was astounding…your filming was beautiful, captivating and inspiring…your narration sounded like a book I would love to read. Oh man, I feel like I’ve watched something very very special. Nice music, too…great editing….I applaud you for your dedication, the hiking and on top of it for taking the time to film these beautiful shots. I can’t compliment and congratulate you enough. I just randomly came across this and I’m so glad I did. This looked and sounded like a full on production, I can’t believe you did all this on your own. A whole other accomplishment you can be proud of! Just beautiful. Thank you for sharing this with us. I loved it!
Mesmerizing, felt like I was hiking with you on the trail. One of the best PCT documentaries. Watching these documentaries making me to jump on pct trail as early as possible.
Congratulations! This film is beautiful, as was your adventure. Thanks for taking us along. Some day, I hope to get another chance to attempt the PCT. 🐻🌲
Excellent job of documenting your journey! Also, appreciate your coverage of Oregon and Washington. Most vids just touch on these two magnificent states. I am blessed to live in the PNW and am always bummed at how under appreciated by the coverage of the two states!
Congratulations, of all the PCT videos I have seeing, this is by far the most amazing, incredible and well documented video ever!!!!! The way you shoot the footage and edit this video tells me you are a pro photographer or a pro editor it is amazing and encouraging. This video is very motivational I am too old for this but I was there at every steps with you thru this video. Thanks for sharing this experience with all of us.
Thank you for such high praise!! I’m glad I could show you what it’s like out there when it’s not in the cards for you to see it for yourself. The whole process helped me figure out what being a filmmaker means and what it takes.
Thanks for thur-hiking the trail for me and for many others. We get to follow vicariously for one reason or the other. But no matter what, even though I will never get to attempt a PCT thru, I feel even more connected on my PCT day hikes having watched your epic journey. So, from the heart
Wow! Such an awesome documentary! The way you put your personal adventure together on film was beautiful. I loved everything. The scenery, musical choice, organization, and narration were all superb. But what topped it all off was how you shared your personal story of struggle and conquest. Any one who watches this will be inspired to follow their dreams. Thanks for taking me along on your journey!
Thank you for sharing your experiences, high & low, impressions, conclusions, learnings! Being a passionate mountaineer and hiker myself since decades, I still appreciate watching other's journeys. Especially, when it's so well filmed and documented like yours! Deciding to start that endeavour at that early stage of your life was such a smart move and will impact the rest of your life in a such a positive way! Congratulations!
You are such an amazing human being. Your wonderful journey brought me so much joy, peace and comfort to see the spirit of the human being to be able to conquer nature but also to conquer their own fears. I personally wish you a long life on this Earth and I hope when your times comes you die an old man in a warm bed and surrounded by family, friends and your everlasting memories of you living your best life and when your eyes close for the last time let it be the memories of the Pacific hiking trail when you saw majestic mountains, beautiful creatures, beautiful flora and the last mile of you conquering The Pacific Trail. I admired your spirit...❤🌲🌳🌴🌵🌾
I really love your documentary, you did such a good job filming the trail and surrounding areas!! Thank you for doing this! I live in Ashland, OR and PCT is one of my favorite trails and I hike it on a weekly basis at least. We have so many entry points to the PCT around me that I've tried many different sections all the way up to Crater Lake and parts in Burney Falls area. I always wondered what the trail looked like in other places and all the scenery. I am always amazed how beautiful the trail is and how different it gets even in my area. It was also interesting to see the same spots in your documentary where I hike or views I admire all the time and say "I know where this is". Forever grateful that I get to enjoy this trail all the time:-) I also like talking to through hikers I meet on the trail or when I give rides to PCT hikers into town. This year everybody is skipping the Sierras due to record breaking snow year. Every year there is something...
This is one of the most inspirational and emotional videos that I've seen in a long time. Such an epic journey and the way that you told the story was so motivating and well documented. AMAZING! Now I want to go on an epic backpacking trip ;-)
Nathan! So proud of what you were able to accomplish! Getting to see your whole journey unfold was truly amazing. Can’t stress enough how much respect I have for you and your dedication. A documentary truly worthy of being 10/10! Can’t wait to see your next adventure.
I’m glad you appreciated it! It was indeed a ton of work but so worth. Post-trail life is very different but I take it in better stride (no pun intended) than pre-trail life. Less stress and more meaning are the fruits of this changed mindset.
Just wanted to say you are an inspiring young man - fantastic cinematography and a heroic tale well told. Congratulations on your epic adventure. I always wanted to do something like this but life, family, career, there was always something to take precedence. Hopefully one day I can take my boys when they grow up, and we do some of this beautiful trail. May fortune smile upon you in your life ahead!
@@nathanoutside Cheers my friend. A day later I'm still thinking about your video and your adventures. Never say never, right! Much respect to you from Sydney Australia - I look forward to your next journeys!
Fantastic production. This really excels at bringing viewers on the journey to experience the life changing goal that you set, persevered through challenges, and accomplished. Bravo!
Congratulations Nathan! 🎉 And friends. ;) I really enjoyed your documentary and filming. We live in a beautiful world and you've captured it well. I've never been to that part of the US and would love to see it someday. Thanks for sharing! ❤ Right now I'm following the Appalachian trail hikers for this year and really enjoy their video's. Best wishes to you on whatever you choose to do in life. Hopefully you'll continue hiking and filming. ❤

Beautiful scenery. Great video! Thank you for posting it.
After years of watching countless TH-cam videos, this is my first TH-cam comment. I felt compelled to share my admiration for your dedication and artistic touch because of the impact this video/journey had on me. Bravo, Nathan.
What a great video! Love every moment of it. Congratulations!
Your doc tops many other PCT documentaries that have dropped over the months and years . I can say its a favorite. so much attention to detail and many POV shots never shown in other videos.
This might sound crazy but I love this video and have watched it about 4 times, its that good
Outstanding documentary video of the highs and the lows of hiking the PCT brother!! You have a gift of being a storyteller and I enjoyed every second of your video. Thank you for taking the time to capture the moments and to share your journey with us. Typically, I am doing other things while watching videos, but not this time. Had my undivided attention the entire time. Again, thank you. Felt like I was there!!
Oregonian here. Thank you for sharing you adventure. I will section hike the Oregon pct this summer.
That section is amazing! If you can summit one or two of the volcanoes along the way and take your time enjoying this cruisey section.
I hear about PCT right here, in Brazil. I'll finish the college next year...i really inspired by it. Beautiful trail, Nathan. Thank you
What an amazing journey, I cried at the end of the video.
Congrats on completing it.
Thank you for watching! I’m glad it touched you in that way.
BEAUTIFUL film! I am just finishing my virtual PCT while I row. So nice to see where I've been! Thank you for sharing.
Best I’ve seen done by a hiker for any trail! 😎👣
So true! Hit me up if you ever visit Germany :)
Dude this is awesome! Hope to see CDT and Appalachia before too long!
Thanks so much Jackson! Hahah there are many adventures out there still to be had
Greetings from Scotland. 🏴🥃That was a brilliant watch mate. Well done. 👏Epic stuff. Get yourself over to our wee country and hike.
Awww status this was so good!!
Dude! You did my dream I’ll ever do. Thank you for sharing!!!!!
This brings me happy tears 😊
I’m glad it had that impact on you :) thanks for watching!
Please make more videos 😅
@@Casual_BackPacking that’s the plan! I have a few more trips this year I want to make into films.
And the Academy Award for Best Pacific Crest Trail Documentary goes to…Well done brother.Well.Friggin.Done.
Do it! It will only get more difficult with each passing year.
Absolutely fantastic documentary! The images are fantastic and you also really conveyed the emotional part of a thru-hikers journey. PCT class of 2017
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it as someone who can really relate to every step I took.
Just watched. Great work man! 🤙🏼
Congratulations! This film is beautiful, as was your adventure. Thanks for taking us along. Some day, I hope to get another chance to attempt the PCT. 🐻🌲
Awesome a journey of a lifetime great achievement thank you for sharing.
Such a great documentary! A treasure for you to have in years ahead. Well Done!
:) thanks for watching!
Thank you Brother for this wonderful video full of your memories from unforgettable journey! Congratulations
Excellent job of documenting your journey! Also, appreciate your coverage of Oregon and Washington. Most vids just touch on these two magnificent states. I am blessed to live in the PNW and am always bummed at how under appreciated by the coverage of the two states!
Best documentary yet! I hope to one day ride the pct with my horses. Your film brought tears to my eyes and motivates me to make my dreams come true.!
PCT equestrian would be so awesome! I don’t think people do it enough!
Absolutely fabulously wonderful!
Thanks for thur-hiking the trail for me and for many others. We get to follow vicariously for one reason or the other. But no matter what, even though I will never get to attempt a PCT thru, I feel even more connected on my PCT day hikes having watched your epic journey.
So, from the heart
I’m so glad to hear that. Whether or not you can hike it, if you’ve fallen in love with the trail, the magic of it will always be with you.
Fantastic, definitely one of the best PCT document. Perfect music choice, and best shots of nature :). Congratulation
Such a fantastic documentary of your PCT. I am envious of your perseverance to experience this adventure! Way to go!
This means so much to hear, thanks for the in-depth review!
This was the first PCT video I've sat all the way through, it was really engaging. Thanks 🙏
This is amazing!
Thanks for watching!
Spectacular and brave good for you
What a great job you did on this! Your narration is absolutely outstanding and sets your video apart as a classic!
This has easily become my favorite video for backpacking. Such an incredible adventure, and such a good video. Well done!
Great video. You nailed the spirit of the PCT. I did it 1995 and that was a great reminder. Awesome job.
This is insanely good story telling and amazing videography! Great job!
wow incredible achievement what an inspiring video, felt like we were with you every step of the way
I really love your documentary, you did such a good job filming the trail and surrounding areas!!
I appreciate it! Thanks for helping us hikers out and keep getting out there to see more of the trail :)
I saw your documentary. It was excellent and can be used as a reference.Your feeling was very good.
This is one of the most inspirational and emotional videos that I've seen in a long time. Such an epic journey and the way that you told the story was so motivating and well documented. AMAZING! Now I want to go on an epic backpacking trip ;-)
Few bring out the emotion. You did that. Absolutely epic effort - hike & video. 👍
Nathan! So proud of what you were able to accomplish! Getting to see your whole journey unfold was truly amazing. Can’t stress enough how much respect I have for you and your dedication. A documentary truly worthy of being 10/10! Can’t wait to see your next adventure.
What a story teller you are. What an amazing journey you must have had. Thanks for putting this out into the world. Hope you are doing amazing.
Fantastic story. Thanks so much for all the work of hiking, filming, editing! Hope you are doing well in your afterlife!
I’m glad you appreciated it! It was indeed a ton of work but so worth. Post-trail life is very different but I take it in better stride (no pun intended) than pre-trail life. Less stress and more meaning are the fruits of this changed mindset.
Wooooo is very good 👍🏻- excellent, congratulations 👏🏻🤙🏻
Just wanted to say you are an inspiring young man - fantastic cinematography and a heroic tale well told. Congratulations on your epic adventure. I always wanted to do something like this but life, family, career, there was always something to take precedence. Hopefully one day I can take my boys when they grow up, and we do some of this beautiful trail. May fortune smile upon you in your life ahead!
Thank you I appreciate this so much- you can do it! I saw a few families out there and they were absolutely making the miles.
@@nathanoutside Cheers my friend. A day later I'm still thinking about your video and your adventures. Never say never, right! Much respect to you from Sydney Australia - I look forward to your next journeys!
Totally awesome my friend, I loved the film, best wishes to you ❤ incredible achievement ❤
Fantastic production. This really excels at bringing viewers on the journey to experience the life changing goal that you set, persevered through challenges, and accomplished. Bravo!
Amazing and absolutely inspiring!!!! Congratulations!!!
Thanks so much! I have some trips planned to Washington and Colorado later this year, and I think I can make something cool out of them :)
Amazing! Thank you for sharing your journey with the world!
