True om the M240. As far as the GAU-18, it is a variant of the M3, not M2. The GAU-18's rate of fire is nearly half that of an M3. The Marines use the M3 on their UH-1Y.

@@cal30m1 I guess you’re referring to the 5’2” female close protection officer assigned to protect a 6 foot Trump. How could he possibly be shielded? Something smells about it. I’m ex U.K. Military Intelligence and our counterparts in MI5 and MI6 were very often female. They blend in more easily (usually middle aged women not to attractive - don’t mean that as a slur if they were hot they would get eyeballed straight away. Also most of the work is done in office conditions, analysts looking at data and photos. They also work longer and harder hours to prove they’re better than men. When things kick off the call goes to Hereford where three standby teams of SAS are ready to go at a moments notice. There are also specialist police units that are not talked about and change their units name regularly! Unfortunately armed police are a regular sight now, not just in cities and airports but even in the rural village I live in. Justified on ‘anti-terrorism’ grounds but so far have only shot dead innocent civilians. My logic is the nasty element of society will tool up as well. Though handguns are illegal you can buy one and ammo for £500!

The GAU-18/A is just a variant of the M2/M3 .50cal. GAU is USAF nomenclature (because they have to be different, just like Navy makes everything a "Mk. Something"). It is designed for aircraft use, is lighter than an M2, uses a different barrel and trigger assembly, has a higher ROF, and a fancy recoil absorbing mount. Apparently it still has the older M2 adjustable headspace unlike the Army's newer M2A1's fixed headspace and timing (which makes your life no longer dependent on a small key chain sized metal headspace & timing gauge everyone seems to lose). If you fuck up the head space on a M2/M3 it can malfunction or even go boom and launch the barrel down range, which tends to get everyone excited in bad way.

They don’t climb on top of the helicopter to check rotors that is done by the ground crew. Also ammo is not loaded by the grew if you are in a base it is done by the weapons handlers they also bring the weapons to the helicopter. The gunner/flight engineer does the pre-flight checks , they handle the radios , the ropes used for special forces to fast rope down as well the Winch that is on the right side of the aircraft.

We have no idea what, if anything, was hit. I would expect so if they regularly train this. Having fired versions of the M2 .50cal off a tank for 3 decades in various mounting configurations, including "John Wayne-ing" it with no mechanical movement or sighting assistance, it's a skill you have to keep up. I also fired a pintle mounted 7.62 M-60 variant off a UH-60. It was exponentially more difficult to hit specific vehicular or personnel targets. Aerial small-arms gunnery done well takes a lot of practice and a lot of training ammo, so I'm glad these USAF crews are getting it done.

Two different machine guns. From the inside, it's an M240 series in 7.62. It has a higher rate of fire, and it can be heard as such. It also has a different spent shell chute. From outside, you see and hear the slower firing .50 cal with its black cylinderic spent shell chute.

There are two different guns and two different gunners in this video, mashed together. Come on guys, a.50 cal ius pretty easy to tell apart from a 240! And while she does pull the charging handle with some authority when checking the headspace and timing on the .50, NO-one is ever HOLDING a .50 cal to fire it. It weighs 84 lbs, without the tripod. The mount in a 60 is very robust, as it both handles the feeding of the belt and ejection of the brass, and has a restrictor for movement that keeps us (former) gunners from doing something pesky like shooting off our own rotor blades.

Yeah, I get it. We have to promote and show that women are doing the same jobs as well as men. When I went into the service in the early 70s, not very many women. They were given an entirely different Boot Camp then I was less push-ups less situps less running more time to accomplish things the list went on and on and on, they graduated and they received the same rank and money as I did. There were and I’m sure there are now women that do the same things men do. I don’t know if they have different qualification standards anymore. I’ll be glad to hear from somebody that’s up-to-date. My point is and I don’t give a Horses ass what anybody thinks men and women are different. You can be politically correct you can be as woke as you want. The fact is men and women are different. We think differently we react to things differently. Most of the time men are physically stronger. It’s nothing for women to be ashamed about. It’s not like they chose, those differences. So we’re back to putting everybody in the best light they possibly can for recurring and to be politically correct. Just remember being politically correct is always no exceptions. The wrong answer!
