I think that you are missing an important point. In the 2nd round votes and seats were:
Left Wing: 7,0 million votes (25,8%) but 182 seats (31,5%)
Ensemble: 6,7 million votes (24,5%) but 168 seats (29,1%)
RN: 10,1 million votes (37,1%) but 143 seats (24,8%)
Republicans; 1,5 million votes (7,2%) and 45 seats (7,8%).
As you can see, RN is heavily under represented by around on third of seats, whereas both the Left Wing and Ensemble are over represented by around 20-25%. It was not a "victory" for the Left, it is an undemocratic election system.
This alliance needs to be forced too run against Le - Penn in the third round because they haven't reached the seats required, the French voters didn't decide the political system did
