Baling Hay - Long Play... 2018 Deere 5055d, 348 and 42 Ejector

- This is a series of videos we took baling hay in 2018. First year with the #42 Ejector (pan kicker), so a few bales went over the sides and back... 2018 was a most difficult haying season with all the rain we had and in the video you will see ragged cut grass that was from lodging. We used a John Deere 5055d tractor, JD 348 baler and JD 42 pan kicker - or ejector as Deere calls it. The hay is timothy.

Nice job ! I’m impressed how that little 5055 handles the 348 baler AND stack wagon. I’m also impressed by the performance of that 348. I have an older Heston In Line Baler and she is not performing as well there days. I pull is behind my only tractor which is a much bigger John Deere 4440. I’m in Virginia near the Chesapeake Bay .
Thomas Mccrea - thanks for the comment. That JD 5055d has been an excellent Tractor for our small farm. It is at ease with the 348 baler and wagons. We are careful to keep out of situations that might push the tractor around. No traction issues, front weights are a must with this tractor. We don’t have a 4440, but looked hard at a few JD 4240 and 4040 tractors before buying our low hour MF 1105. Might try to put the baler on the MF this year and enjoy the AC. BTW - the 348 (knock on wood) has been a great baler - spits out beautiful consistent square bales. We sell all of our hay, mostly to horse folks, and the look of the bale goes a goodly way towards selling the bales. Customers really like the bales out of the 348. Thx for the comment.
If only our IH B47 baler would throw bales as consistent as your baler, I would have enjoyed my younger days much more. Great scene and Greetings from Ireland.

Nice job loading those wagons. No you have to unload, I don’t miss that. How many do you get on a wagon?
We get 130 bales pretty easy and usually more than that as I will toss bales on the wagon until they start falling over the sides. The JD pan kicker does a good job soft ball tossing the bales into the wagon, so it's easy to pack it full. The arch is high enough that we can pack the front pretty good too. Unloading - we can pull the wagons in our barn and unload later in the day (or another day), that kind of takes the rush our of unloading the wagons and makes that chore easier. Thanks!
