  • We've been baling some small square bales with the second crop the last few days and everything went pretty well. We had the John Deere 6300 on the JD 328 baler that day, with the old 1953 John Deere 50 pulling the wagons.
    It was a warm one that day!

    nice overhead shot of the kicker throwing a bale right into the center of the wagon! Thanks for the view!

    It refreshing to see someone who knows how to load a bale throw wagon properly. Starting with gently tossing them into the middle then the front and then pitching them to the back. Thus preventing them from rolling off the front of the wagon. I've loaded 1000's of wagons this way and there is an art to doing it well. I cut my teeth on a 24t with a pto thrower and moved up to a 336 with a hydraulic thrower. Well done.

    Nice video. Bailing was one thing we never liked for the simple reason we were always short handed for hauling loads, unloading and stacking in the hay barn. In 1987 we had the bright idea of putting up a third 20x60 silo just for alfalfa haylage in addition to our existing 20x50 filled with haylage. The plan was to put 1st crop in the new 20x60, 2nd crop, bail and dump (no stack), and 3rd crop would top off the new 20x60, and any remaining would go in the 20x50 and maybe a few bails. When it came to corn harvest, we had a 20x60 filled with corn silage, and then we would top off the 20x50, so essentially the 20x50 was half and half. Take care. Scott

      Thanks Scott! I guess little baling is something I still like doing, but we usually don't make that many every year. For 1st crop it's generally half haylage and half large square baled or round bales. For 2nd we like to get some small squares as well as haylage, and 3rd primarily haylage into the silos.

    It seems to me that you have a good operation going on there. My father always told me ,that you can tell a good farmer by the color of his green tractors and equipment with yellow wheels . Keep up the good work men, nothing runs like a DEERE.......

      I know when my grandpa was young they had a wire tie baler, and then when my dad was a kid they still relied mainly on little squares, so they would have to stack the barn from top to bottom yearly. It was then they started switching over to silos.

    I miss those good old days, I used to love that rhythmic sound of the baler only we didn't have / user teh kicker,... it was all hand loaded on the wagon ...( Farmer I worked for used to cal l the kick baler .. the lazy man's baler

      Yeah I always like the sound of the plunger in the baler too. Small bales keep a person exercised though!

    thanks for the views of how the bale kicker launches those bales into the trailer. I was wondering how that worked.

    • @farmgrowncountrystrong
      @farmgrowncountrystrong  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah when a bale comes far enough out on the 'pan' (which is the kicker) it trips a lever which springs the kicker by a hydraulic ram. The hydraulic pump for the kicker is on the baler and the kick can be adjusted via the pole that stretches to the cab.

    That's a familiar sight! Thumbnail image looks just like a couple of my videos. Great looking hay, alfalfa and orchard grass I'm guessing? Had 4.5in of rain here on the other side of the state last week, so had to delay second cutting until this week.

      Yeah I seen you guys were getting a lot of rain over there! The hay was a mix of alfalfa and rye.

      Yep I'm feeling better and getting more and more back into stuff as we go along! It feels good. The small squares we'll feed to the calves in our calf barn as well as the cows when they are kept inside the main barn overnight during the cold winter season.

    Does your baler ever miss! Looks good I have a 336 with a kicker but the pickup is smaller I made 900 the other day she missed about 5 probably operator error we have a new rake and I have to tweak some things.

    • @farmgrowncountrystrong
      @farmgrowncountrystrong  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha yeah I'm afraid she had a few misses, but I'll take the blame! We had 590 that day, and I probably had about 5 misses also.
