    is it possible to have this setup with horizontal and vertical operating modes?

    • @LucasJohnsonFaustino
      @LucasJohnsonFaustino  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes to some degree, you could attach the side handle to the top and have it operate that way. However this particular top handle only fits the top of this cage, there may be others that smallrig sell that can be!

    Thanks for the video I’m buying this for my a7s3 ! Did you ever get a monitor ? I’m wondering where I would put it on your setup , as I just want that too handle to be the top handle doesn’t seem like there is room for a monitor up there

    • @LucasJohnsonFaustino
      @LucasJohnsonFaustino  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have a monitor, the top handle isn't huge so fitting a monitor can be tight. although you can add it to either of the cold shoe mounts and it'll work just fine. You can also invert the direction of the handle for a different feel which helps!

    • @LucasJohnsonFaustino
      @LucasJohnsonFaustino  ปีที่แล้ว

      The monitor I have at the moment is the Portkeys PT6. There's a review on the channel if you're interested in finding out more.

    Looks a great bit of kit! How much more stable do you find handheld filming compared to not having the cage mate?

    • @LucasJohnsonFaustino
      @LucasJohnsonFaustino  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You really do notice a significant difference. The handles allow you to hold the camera in a way which gives you much more stability. The extra weight also helps remove micro jitters which is also fantastic. Like everything, your technique will be the true difference, but using this along with practice you can get some fantastic results!
      Of course if you still need to do crazy big moves and run alongside a subject, a gimbal is a much more effective tool. But each tool has its purpose.

    Why you prefer a rig to a Gimbal ?

    • @LucasJohnsonFaustino
      @LucasJohnsonFaustino  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s not necessarily one over the other, they both have their advantages in different scenarios!
      I like that a rig is more portable, and arguably quicker to set up. For many styles of video a hand held “look” is a little more attractive for me than the completely steady gimbal shots.
      But if you do need 100% smooth footage, I’m much better of using a gimbal!

    That rig doesn't make contact on the frontal and superior rubber pads meaning that the rig has 2 contact points when it could have had 4. The design of that rig also requires me to disassemble my Ronin RS2 to change the battery. They hardly could have thought a worse design.

    • @Penta_Penguin_237
      @Penta_Penguin_237 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want me to tell you how could smallrig design a cleverer rig here is the secret for you: CNC drill a line instead of a hole for the base quarter inch screw so that the camera has enough play to go to contact with the rubber pads. By the way this is exactly what they have done on better cages like the 2629.

    • @LucasJohnsonFaustino
      @LucasJohnsonFaustino  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Have you thought that perhaps it’s not bad design, but maybe it’s not the right rig for your needs…

      Making sure you have a steady operation is most important, keeping your arms flexible and don't try and do overly large moves. It will also help If you turn on Active Image stabilisation, this will help reduce the shakes!

  • @gemwebb
    @gemwebb 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yah, but what about pressing the damn record button that is almost hard to fix under the cage. Why they don't add Record buttons on all handles is so whack. U have to search for button to record and stop recording which adds camera shake. Kinda stupid in my opinion.

    Что толку от ручки справа, если на ней нет кнопки спуска? И эта клетка - плохой вариант - закрывает всё управление справа. Есть клетка где эта часть камеры не закрыта. А вот ручка слева, тем более поворотная - это плюс. Но при установке ручки справа нарушается центровка камеры при использовании верхне родной ручки. Я использовал от Tilta, у неё другой крепёж и это позволяет сдвинуть её влево, в сторону левой поворотной ручки. Центровка сохраняется даже с накамерным монитором на центральной ручке.
