I love the Falcam quick release system and am already heavily invested in it but I think we’re going to see this SR quick release system take over TH-cam soon 😮
@@JasonMorrisphotocinema yeah, and then some people bought into the Falcam system because _someone_ said Nato rail clamps would work with it (spoiler: they don't). Ah well, I wish this Smallrig system had come out back then, I definitely would've gone that way instead.
Sony A74 Hybrid Shooter -Bought the Rhinoceros Kit and this Hawklock System. I wanted to keep the Rhinoceros cage, I liked it better, but...I have large hands and the wrap around grip added just enough thickness to the camera grip to wedge my finger against the lens. The cage grip also stops at the same place the actual camera grip does, so no pinkie extension. The mode switch on the top when in photo mode is slightly under the cage making it difficult to reach. This Hawklock system solves all of those issues for me. If you have larger hands and on the fence on the Rhinoceros Kit and this Hawklock System. The Hawklock System is the way to go
It doesn't look like you can slide this cage onto a gimbal from the left side - you can't slide a camera onto a gimbal from the right (at least on a RS3) without having to slide the balance plate almost all the way out. I've just bought the Smallrig H38 adjustment plate/clamp for my gimbal which works fine as is but I was hoping to do away with the extra plate on the camera if I fit a cage with a plate built into it.
Fantastic review, like always 👏 I'm wondering if I should buy this one or the rhinoceros as it has less weight? I have alpha 7 iv and the dji rs3 mini.
I see around 7:24 you used a relocation wire for the shotgun mic. I had it tried on my ZV-E1 but didn't have success with it working. Did you have to enable anything in camera to make it work?
Great video, as usual Jason!. Thanks for this. I tried to post same comment twice allready but for some reason doesn't show up.. maybe because I had a link to a SmallRig plate that I have a question about.. So, does anyone know if the SMALLRIG Mounting Plate for Attaching FX3 XLR Handle to THIS new design Camera Cage would actually work (FX3 XLR handle on the Sony A7 IV)??
is the "Rhinoceros" Cage Kit for Sony is an updates version of this one for A7S3? the top feature is really their multipoint anti twist lock system , love them from smallrig comparing to Tilta cages they dont have that system
Hi Jason, Great video, thank you! I have one question. At 7:20, you show your A7IV rig. I was wondering, which cable do you use to connect your B10 mic? I need this for my setup, but I can't find this cable!🤯
I've read this extension cable comes with the XLR-K3M kit but isn't normally sold separately. Some eBay sellers do sell it by itself though so you can search for that and find it.
With the cage on the a7iv, can you use the hot shoe for a mic or does the top of the cage block equipment from sliding in all the way? With my falcam cage I can't get the ECM-M1 in because the top of the cage is too tall and prevents the mic from sliding all the way in to connect. I do see you have your mic on top of the handle, how did you connect that to the hot shoe? Do you like this setup better than the falcam?
My A7iv cage covers that Mic hot shoe - about the only downside. However, with the partial cage for the FX 30 the hot shoe is accessible, then match the cage with a handle on the side with the record button on it works well for me. so I use the A7iv for stills and the FX30 for video.
7:04 Can you show or explain how you set up your sony a7iv for vertical shooting. I didn’t get it and I am looking for a system for shooting vertical content with my Sony a7iv
Smallring just killed Falcam F22 which was the worst and should've supported NATO rail. F38 and F50 are still brilliant because they are arca swiss and mafrotto compatible. F22 held me back from buying the Falcam cage. Now this with the F38/50 dual plate down which is arca-swiss/manfrotto compatible would be great. But it has the same flaw F22 has: No button secure locking. Until they make one, I'm not interested.
Yes I ran into a few issues with not having nato rail. I fully invested in the falcam system but couldn’t use other nsto rail products. Thats where you’re right. This system is super handy with nato rails

Personally this one is slightly better design with standard nato rails. I ran into issues with my falcam system and non-standard nato rails
No wonder if Tilta comes out with his own system soon, I actually don't know with Cage system to get yet...

keen to see a comparison with falcam. would be nice to just push the two together and have the ultimate cage haha

Does the new locking system work with old Nato rails?
hey, what happens if you use this side handle on a non Hawklock?
Vertical setup video ?
Can't wait for the FX3 version
Yes that will be nice. I’ll be getting one for my FX30 when it’s available
Smallrig launched the hawklock system 2 years ago i think. How is this one different from that version?
Can you post a link with the movable side handle? I cant find it anywhere. Thx

did I see your shotgun mic on your handle? how did you do that?

*I WANT that, the Top Handle because it looks AWESOME, But I have the FX30 which they don't have yet. But I'm Hoping to get that TOP Handle*
Can’t wait until they get the FX30 cage

What a great system!
It truly is

I mounted a slightly larger nato rail at the top and was able to use the MI hotshoe with a relocator
Where can I get this relocator? I have found that the only option is to get the cable from XLR-K3M, which is not buyable anywhere.
No cage for a6700 😢
does it shake a little?
There is an added screw I forgot that attaches at the bottom in the cage that helps with keeping it rigid

seems like falcam system
Similar. This one has standard nato rails where falcam doesn’t. Small downside to that system

Actually 😂
Hi Jason, we heard so many ‘actually’ and ‘essentially’ in this video. 😅 Just saying.
Oh well🎉
