You said it best, the Cummins is the crown jewel of the Ram. But as you are aware, there is a lot more to a truck than just the engine.

It’s what we have known for years and years about ram. If not for the Cummins dodge would either have been bankrupt or forced to make the rest of the truck better. Hell going back to my first dodge in the 70’s, always had more issues than the other 2.

Great review towing big with the new Silverado 3500. Really was no need to mention the RAM in this video since the two trucks are not in the same class anyway. Kudos admitting that the pin weight was already over specs on the RAM though. Enjoy a more relaxing vacation this year towing without the white knuckles.

It's so entertaining to read the comments of truck guys. Boy you better believe there's only one truck and it's theirs. How about they each have their own positives and negatives? Plenty of content out there of guys complaining about their Ford trucks, Chevy trucks, and Ram trucks. But my choice is the best cause I say it is😂. Very nice new truck you have and a very fair review. Keep up the unbiased good work.

    Beautiful truck.
    A couple things:
    1) power convex mirror is not an option for either Ford or GM. That’s a Ram thing only.
    2) you’re 100% correct in that these 2020+ GM HDs are rock solid towing. They just are. I think it’s because of their sheer size. A lot of guys in the Facebook groups are towing trailers like yours with 2500s. Maybe that’s pushing it but for example, my 2022 2500 has over 3500 pounds of payload. So it could do it and be within specs. I do think the overload springs you get with a SRW 3500 would be a benefit though.

I recently went from a 2015 1T ram to a 2024 1T Chevy. I couldn't be happier. There are a few trade offs but over all the Chevy is a far better truck.
The biggest reason I switched away from Ram was breakdowns. I averaged 2 per year. Most were covered under warranty. However it left me stranded far too many times. Too soon to say on the Chevy but hoping for 0 breakdowns.
Best part of the chevy is how quiet it is. Love not hearing the drone of the engine for hours on end.

I had a 2021 GMC 3500 SRW Sierra Denali Diesel 4x4 Longbox (Sister of that Chevy) with a 2021 Grand Design Momentum toyhauler with a GVWR of 16k lbs, the payload capacity on the 3500 was 3825 lbs, it towed that 5th wheel flawlessly, the truck had only about 1 1/2" rear squat loaded, it was a great combination. I also had the Reese 20k Goosebox installed by the dealer with we picked up our RV, made it easy to hook up and I didn't have some big hitch in the bed to deal with. If I only was good at backing a trailer, I'd still have it, my backing skills stunk, we switched to a Class A motorhome after a year. Those trucks are very good for towing for sure!

Correct me if I am wrong, wasn't there a video about the 'new' trailer and the 2500 being overloaded and we the viewers were told to back off and don't worry about the 2500 being overloaded?
Also the 2500s payload was 2100lbs? That's half-ton range, that diesel on the 2500 is heavy and with low payload is kinda wasted.

@cloud30000 my 22 GMC 2500 AT4 had a max tongue weight for 5th wheel of 2775. Payload was 3131. It was perfectly capable of towing Truck King’s Grand Design. Most of the Ram 2500s I had looked at has a Payload of 2000 lbs or less. But that’s cause I was looking in a Laramie or a Limited Model. I now have a 2024 Chevy 3500 LTZ short bed srw and the Payload is 3872 and 5th wheel max tongue weight is 3240. I was close with my Momentum with 2600lb tongue weight. I’ve been driving Semi for about 30 years now and I can attest to that uneasy feeling of side to side motion. It’s nerve racking! I think if you guys change out to that platform 5th wheel style and put that right over the rear axle or a little bit behind your gonna notice a way more stable ride. Putting the fifth wheel too far back it feels like ur front wheels are barely touching and could end with loss of control. U want to plant that weight. Glad to see that it is a huge improvement over what you had and quiet is good especially when your logging thousands of miles.

I can run 80 mph w no issues but I rarely go over 65 mph just for overall safety. The Ram is not a speed demon but just keeps towing fine.

Also, the turning radius, compared to My old single cab Dodge is much larger. Just an FYI for those that are going to use Their HD trucks for daily driving. Other than that, I love this thing. I find most of the time, when the bumper is on the road it is because they only counted the tongue weight and forgot to account for the hitch, gear, tonneau cover, bed liner, etc and are actually overweight. Airbags help reduce bounce on the ride, but shouldn’t be use to raise a bed that is already overweight. RAMs have a lower then expected payload due to the coils and steel bed and are easy to overload if you aren’t careful (I had a 2019 RAM 1500)

Why did you opt out of a dually? I noticed you said you were going to do a lot of southern travel while pulling that fifth wheel, is there any particular reason or preference? Also, you were talking about your hitch connection and you were wondering if moving that weight around would help with it's towing. I drive big truck for a living and i can confirm that keeping that weight as close to your rear axle will dramatically improve the way your truck handles no only at the steering wheel, but also as a combination together. Ideally you want to keep your hitch weight directly overtop of your rear axle so good choice with the 8ft bed. The extra wheel base length also helps with road stability. Beautiful rig, thanks for all the info in the video, safe travels!

5th wheel will always tow nicer Weight is directly above the axle.. Some of us use truck also for work. Myself for example have a canopy on, so 5th wheel is not an option. I got fully deleted LML Sierra Denali HD. This year thinking to get new AT4X

Just putting this out there. I have been dealing with new 2024 Chevy 2500 HD Duramax LTZ purchase. It stareted at 200 miles new with engine lights and a dashboard light display of errors (major drive train crunch crunch and steering issues) and went into limp mode. This happened a few times. Fast forward, I have a leaking transfer case from the output shaft that has been to the dealer 3 times now. It still leaks. GM rep can careless (assigned after contacting customer service). Dealer calls it residue from repairs following a parts replacement that took 2 weeks to get. I call it BS, as it still leaks today! Now what! Lawyer on deck......Why does it have to be this way!!!

Great video docs, but not sure comparing a 3500 to a 2500 is fare comparison - price maybe?. Other question - why not upgrade to a dual rear wheel setup for more stability?

    • @TruckKing
      @TruckKing  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Loads of folks ask us about the differences between a 2500 and 3500. So comparing them makes total sense and provides valuable insight for those who haven't driven these trucks before.
As for the dual rear wheels, it didn't feel necessary for this setup. We are not at the limits of this truck. Would it be even more stable? Sure. But the inconvenience of driving a dually empty didn't seem worth the extra cost. - Stephen
