  • Day 3 and 4 of our 5 day canoe camping loop in Algonquin Park with our Golden Retriever Emma. Kiosk , then Mink Lake, Erables Lake, Three Mile Lake and Manitou Lake July 9-13 2021. This video features us searching for a perfect campsite on Three Mile Lake, and doing a complicated bug tarp set up. On day 4 we have amazing egg and bacon breakfast sandwiches and then head out to do our longest portage ever 2.9K. We arrive at Manitou Lake and take a break on the beach, with the most beautiful view in front of us. After being swarmed by horse flies we escape and set off to find our campsite. After checking out 3 different sites, we settle on one and set up camp. We show our dogs sleeping system and how we all fit in the MSR Hubba Hubba NX for two. The Gear we use is a ThermaRest short foam matt and a MEC Youth sleeping bag.

    Thank you for being very responsible with your camping, it not only reminds us how we should be but also teaches people that don’t know these things!

      Thanks Blake, I think it’s very important. Most of us want to do well, but a little reminder or helpful tip can hopefully make a big impact, if it helps even a few people be more conscious of their choices :)

      @@TwoPacksandaPup Ya right. How about keeping your dog on a leash at all times...it's the rules for the park. That would be responsible, maybe you could be more "conscious of your choices"

    I just found you on TH-cam. I have totally enjoyed the two I have watched. I have went into the BWCA lake Saganaga every year for for over 30 years. To be able to visit these programs in the middle of a northwoods (Wisconsin, USA) winter is a joy. Thank you. You do a good job. All Three of you.

      Yes. Yes he did. It was an hour of paddling and that’s why I earned sitting in the water drinking whiskey while he set up the bug tarp 😛

    Just discovered via my sister. Love the trips, love Emma but the modern equip is fantastic. The Canoe I carried in the 60s was 70-80 lbs not counting the food pack. Have some suggestions for you if you don’t mind. Islands are ideal as the wind helps keep bugs & bears at bay, but you do need to get firewood on shore. You're strong enough to keep the paddle away from the gunnel so you won’t hurt your hands and could get more power by sliding you're lower hand down toward blade. But you guys are great if you want to ignore.

    Some wicked weather came through there at one time... Sometimes It just takes a paddle around the lake to realize a terrible site can be a perfect site. It would take me all day to set up the bug shelter as good as Jamie. Nice video!

    In the 15 years of tripping in Algonquin that site on Three Mile were we had a bear encounter. The little island across the narrow passage to the south was complete circled by elders except on small opening across the passage where there was tons of firewood(pine though)and a couple green garbage bags filled with something which we didn't investigate(figured the Ministry probably stashed some stuff there).Just after dark we heard something splashing across the passage ,figuring it was a moose or bear because it was too dark to see me made a lot of noise and whatever it was turned around and splashed back to the island. A couple hours later the same thing happened and again we made alot of noise and as it splashed back across it gave a loud growl and we knew it was a bear. It never came back after that .Glad you didn't run into it on your stay there.

      Oh wow, what an experience!! It’s quite the site. Glad it ran away. We had something similar on Big Trout Lake when we were cooking up a trout at dark, big splashing.. but we thought moose, no growling. Thanks for sharing that!

      I remember that bear visit really well! 4 hours of trying to scare it off before it finally gave up!

      Seems like if one travels with a canine family member the bears tend to leave you alone.

    Hi guys just discovered your channel today, great videos, very well filmed and edited! I live in Ontario too and been to Algonquin few times but never on a canoe camping or trip. Could you please tell me what cameras did you use?

    • @TwoPacksandaPup
      @TwoPacksandaPup  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! The latest 3 videos are mostly IPhone 12 and when Jen is in the shots it’s usually an IPhone 10. Previous videos are mostly IPhone 8 and 10. It’s important for us to use what’s easy or we won’t bother pulling out the camera to get the shots! 😂

    Look at it this way the bigger the tent the more it weighs. The two person tent you have looks big enough for the 3 of you and a dog don't take up much room I know I had a dog.
