I don't like them having a baby at all. Gru was already a father with 3 adopted daughters, and babies are annoying in movies. It feels like them giving Gru a biological kid is a slight to the girls, as if they're not his "real" daughters because they're adopted. It might have been okay if the girls were more grown up. Margo being nearly an adult, Edith in her mid teens, and Agnes just becoming a teen. Then it might make more narrative sense to give him a new kid because his girls are growing up.
Weirdest thing is Ramsbottom looks much older then he did in the second and third, despite cartoon logic, I don’t know how to explain it but he’s definitely turning older
I think the "Despicable Me" franchise could still work with multiple sequels if they didn't keep introducing so many new characters, and focused on the ones they already have. You could make one film exploring Gru's individual relationship with the girls: One film for Edith, one for Agnes and one for Margo. They could even work as prequel films or even shorts, you could even do a spin-off about the girls life before Gru because I'm fairly certain they're not biologically related to each other.
@@ThePrincessCH "You could make one film exploring Gru's individual relationship with the girls" that just sounds wrong. I mean the whole story of a single grown up man adopting 3 pre-teen girls is a wtf in itself...
I know it's "cartoon logic" but it's weird that over the course of now 4 movies, the girls didn't age at all, yet time kept going for a baby to be born. It's kindof a shame that despite the first movie being all about Gru growing a heart and adopting the 3 he would've used as pawns in his evil scheme, now they're pushed to the back because the Minions were a smash hit. Even if they came up with "things" for them to do during the 3, or now 4 movies, you can tell they were an afterthought compared to the Minion's antics and the main plot with Gru.
We got Dr. Nefario on a Cryostasis, Lucy got pregnant and their kid is born, Silas Ramsbottom entered retirement and back, Gru climbed the corporate ladder and shown his skills even with nonconventional tech without Dr. Nefario, the minions gains new skills overtime, and Gru can afford Lamborghini after working for so long... So at least Agnes, Margo, and Edith should have grown up AND entered a higher education. Even my sister who has very high tolerance of cartoon logic calls this movie empty and mostly unfunny. Even more so, what was the entire Mega Minion side plot was for? They beat the bad guy post action and WITHOUT their powers!
My issue with this movie is that it tries to do too much. So many different plot threads went on that none of them either got enough screen time or felt like they actually mattered
They literally showed the mega minions in every trailer, they sold figures of them in the theater I went to, hyper them up in the move, then they only get about 15 minutes of screen time
honestly the story would've been good if poppy was a neglected child (which is why she wants to go into villainy) but is taken under Grus wing as he tries to guide her towards good and teaches her that just because she wasn't treated well that doesn't mean she has to go into a villain role. This in turn could get Gru thinking about how maybe HE has been neglecting his OWN girls and could try to address that and have a heart to heart with them about the move and the new baby etc etc this would also make sense since Gru himself was a neglected child :/
It would make a far better story though even then the studio cannot resit adding excessive amounts of dumb minion antics and still making the overall film a bloated mess. I was already done with this franchise by the third movie, not even bothered to watch the minion spin-offs as I seem to be the only person that finds them irritating. We’ll probably see at least one more minions thing but hopefully Illumination finds something new. …I’ve immediately thought of something that could be fun; alien invasion except they’re just here for an exchange program, we get an alien family and they get a human family. We see both perspectives, though I’m already thinking the human family would be more interesting to follow and the alien family would be the new minions doing wacky things. Hire me Illumination!
@joeybillings1258 I can agree children are easily entertained however they aren't alone watching it. We the adults also have to watch along with the children. Imagine sitting through a movie comprise of jokes you aren't guaranteed you be impressed. The only saving grace is to have a coherent plot to follow through. Also children aren't that dumb either they can understand the film the enough times they watch it. So really it's not unfounded you want something decent from the mascot from the minions or children movies in general can't you?
@@Lionwoman I didn't mind the 2nd one but when the 3rd one came out I thought it was starting to go downhill. I wasn't keen on the villain and the 4th film was just awful imo. I'm never this harsh on films and I'm easily pleased but this was taking the mick
@@Lionwoman The second film was the only last genuinely good one. I mean, it's about Gru falling in love with a pretty badass agent and they got into a very nice relationship. The third was fine, I mean, I liked the Dru plot of finding his long lost twin brother, but how was there a hint?
Gru did not fear Vector, El macho or Balthazar Bratt had hard times with all three of them such as being shrinked and having to safe the girls from Vector, having your partner and your minions kidnapped by El macho, being publicly humiliated and nearly killed by Balthazar Bratt but despite all this Gru defeated all three of them but yet in this movie he runs away and goes into hiding from a cockroach 🪳 looking dweeb.
Would’ve actually been decent if they had a villain that actually did more than turn one guy into a 🪳 and why does he have to use a giant robot and not his 🪳 army Besides we already had a giant robot fight although I wouldn’t call this one much of a fight
He wasn't even afraid of the villains in Rise of Gru even when they revealed they were the antags of the movie. And he was a child Tbf the minions were the ones that dealt with them at the end but Gru was there
I remember sitting in the movie theater and just… disappointed. There was close to no plot. And there were so many things going on that any plot that was there was drowned away. They made a bunch of jokes and references, but no story. So I left the theatre questioning what I just watched.
@@Kailler220 Story is essential to any movie. That’s the literal point of most media. To tell some sort of story that tells some sort of lesson. ESPECIALLY for kid movies since it’s a way kids learn. No story, no plot. No plot, no movie. It’s just a senseless stream of scenes and jokes. Yeah it’s funny, but kids aren’t dumb.
Nah bro they ruined gru hes sorta weak in this one like look at the first movie when vector takes his kids he goes absolutely fuckin beast mode but when that bug villain takes his baby son hes just weak
@@Pig_Mug DM 3 was one of those “so bad it’s funny” kind of movies. And honestly it had some pretty decent jokes. DM 4 was so boring that I literally went to sleep in the theater.
I know! The fourth film was basically already written for them and they just did nothing with that cliffhanger. They just have Dru as a five-second cameo at the end. Also, Dr. Nefario is somehow no longer frozen in carbonite.
The one supermarket scene with the lady who was mad that her hair was ruined was a reference to the Terminator movies and franchise. If you listen to the music in the background, it is a *_DIRECT_* parody to the one of the T-800 throughout all of the movies.
The 3rd was nice with the villain, but the overuse of _some_ characters is honestly dumb. Like who cares about the goat over Dr. Neffario or the rich Gru brother guy that I don't know the name of?
This was the worst of the franchise. 1. Despicable Me came out 14 years ago, so the original fans are 14 years older. Why is this movie made for kids even younger than their original fans? 2. Gru stopped being a villain after movie 1. That's what made it interesting, without this it's a bad spy movie. Spy Kids at least stuck to a gimmick. Why is a former supervillain groveling to make friends with the neighbor? 3. Filler. The movie is only an hour and a half, with too many scenes which do nothing for the story, and are hardly funny enough to justify at all. The salon, supermarket, and tennis scenes were just painful, boring and pointless. All they did was show our former supervillain and superspy being utterly incompetent in normal life, which isn't fun. 4. They skip the plot. Supervillain escapes from maximum security, off screen. Evil schoolmaster tracks down the family under witness protection, no explanation. Baby and supervillain are transformed from insects back to humans, like it's no problem. We get filler scenes while the plot is swiss cheese.
@@alexkaen1701 I get that the film has some flaws, but at least I'm not some cynical pessimist who drowns myself in negativity over a "stupid plot". Not every film has to fit the high standards set by stuff like Inside Out 2 or Toy Story; movies can have action over story and still be decent, like Godzilla x Kong or the 1st three Bayverse Transformers. There will be films where you just gotta shut up and have fun!
@@J-B_713 Clearly didn't read my post, so I'll add another critique. A sequel's standard is its original, if it doesn't meet that standard, it should never have been made.
The evil schoolmaster tracked down Gru because the badger they stole had a tracker. When she's looking at Gru's new address on her screen, it says "Lenny tracker" in the top right corner. It's quite brief though, so it's easy to miss.
@@J-B_713 aaaand you're the reason of why marvel is making horrible movies...you support bad writing for money. this is basically DME4 in a nutshell: "kids LOVE minions" "lets just make everything random and funny cause minions = $$$" thats basically it. keep in mind the super minions never did anything for the plot....they're supposed to be with Gru, but they keep separating them for their spin off clips. you tell the passion is gone for the plot. they just do it only for money.
Despicable me is a ip that just needs to make a show. Movies dont do it, and after 3 they should've done a Gru chasing Dru show. It actually might have been really enjoyable to watch as a series.
YES THANK YOU. Since the minute I saw that last scene of the third movie I needed a tv series of Gru vs Dru. And also yeah in general they have way too many characters and the only way to use them all in a meaningful way is to give them all time. I NEED A DESPICABLE ME ANIMATED SERIES PLEASE. And the franchise does as well
They should really let the three girls grow up, so that there's more potential for conflict. Have Margot go through high school drama, Edith become more rebellious, and Agnes become a little older, so that she can contribute more to the story.
id say a more evolved version of that where Margot wants to go to college to do normal people stuff and Edith wants to follow more in Gru's footsteps. And Agnes wants to start an animal sanctuary. The hijinks will all revolve around helping Agnes's animal sanctuary get off the ground and they have to pool their different skills and passions when they have to defend it against the big bad of the movie. Gru and which ever else daughter(s) and/or son get to be "dispicable" Chaotic good goblins and do it for the right reasons and the mom and Margot do their lawful good stuff and just protect their family in the best way they know how. ........BUUUT that would require ACTUAL passionate managers to greenlight it. Not whatever illumination is doing.
@olleselin its not the writers. Its the writers BOSSES that tell them not to do more than just enough to make big corporate profit line go uppies on their charts.
One of my issues with this movie is how they made Gru an awkward weirdo. In the first two movies he was a badass, now he looks more like Riley from Inside Out 2. (Which I thought was a pretty good movies in its own right) The way he acted with the “new neighbors”, whose names I’ve already forgotten, was just stupid. I know they were trying to be comedic and funny with this one but, when that comes at the expense of a good story and strong characters, no one wants to see it. It’s sad to see a movie franchise that is loved as much as this one go spiraling down into a deep dark pit of disappointment.
I think the "Despicable Me" franchise could still work with multiple sequels if they didn't keep introducing so many new characters, and focused on the ones they already have. I just made a comment very similar to this, and I agree so much! The appeal of the first movie to me as a kid was the focus on the girls, and being raised by a single villain dad, and not the nuclear family dynamic they now have going on
@omppul I personally don't have an issue with Lucy and Dru, I just think they should try to integrate the girls a bit more. Like Dru being so rich and "successful," it could have been an interesting setup for Gru's feelings of inadequacy, competing with the "cool uncle" for his daughters' attention.
I have a friend named Poppy. One night a few days ago, she sent me a message at 3AM saying: "I'm gonna kill myself. There's a character in Despicable Me 4 named 'Poppy'" She's already been teased a lot because of the Trolls movie. I think this is her breaking point 💀
@@kwproductions6737 I know she really does love her name, but she's been teased so much that she really dislikes her name in movies. I think when the first Trolls movie came out, she loved the fact that her name was in it, then the teasing began.
I don't get the 'evil school' thing, coz it was established in DM2 and even in the rise of Gru that as a kid he went to a normal school where he was made fun of for trying to be an villain
How is there a school of villainy in the first place? Shouldn't it be private or hidden away from society? Also, why does the building of the school looks the hotel from Hotel Transylvania?
@@YangTheAce i know right and why did the AVL not take down the school before like the villains there did nothing when the AVL agents broke in during the class reunion

@@waiken3727 if the at was true, they’d pick a good one. Out of all the recent titles Despicable Me 4 is the one I’d least want to pay money to watch. I went to see it with my little nephew and niece and, at one point, even they were bored. There was a man behind us who was histerically laughing at every single joke, though. He seemed to be seriously enjoying it.

I found the movie ok nothing too crazy, but I wish they tried not to put too many plots in the movie. Honestly each plot could of been their own movie, like the parents learning how to live a normal life and take care of their baby or one of just training poppy to be a villain, it would of been full circle as a famous villain taught Gru so him being a famous ex villain teaches a child who was like him to be a villain. I just think they wanted to do to much so it became watered down.
My thoughts... minor spoilers ahead... There is a lot to go through here, it feels like 10 trailers and 1 tv episode made into a movie, with some jokes from many years ago like "Honey Badger don't care" circa 2011. First movie came out in 2010 and was not aimed at 1-5 year olds, this one is 14 years later and is aimed at 1-5 year olds. The first 2 "jokes" of the movie are "they don't make regular milk anymore" which is a 1/10 Dad joke, and a goat that poops. The goat and baby raises several issues if you are dealing with Earth. Assuming the first movie was set in summer 2010, movie 2 can happen within days, on average 12 months to plan a nice wedding, Lucy is Pregnant in summer 2011 and this is roughly when they get the goat. Gru Jr. Is born 9 months later in fall, 12 months later he might speak, so we are probably into fall 2012. Not a problem but... So if Agnus was 4 at the start, Edith was 8, and Margo was 11... then Agnus would be 6, Edith would be 10, and Margo would be 13. But the baby goat would go from baby to adult in just 6-8 months, so Agnus' goat was young, had a son, and that son had a son to get the current one looking so young. Starting Scene, big issue Like 12 AVL agents attacked an evil high school with staff and a principle and 30 evil guests... and they somehow captured everyone or put trackers on them to capture before they left unharmed??? An evil high school that has no weapons checks and honestly should not have let Gru in because he's a famous snitch. Later all the bag guys from all 6 movies are in prison, the minions break the walls open, and none of them leave... none of these evil people who sing about how evil they are act like real humans. Big issue The Mega Minions story did not connect at all, AND most of the minions went to Dru by the end of the 3rd movue so why does Gru have more than a couple of his most loyal? Minor Why was Gru a solar panel salesman, we never saw a scene. Minor Why was Lucy so bad at hair, she was smart in movie 2 and could have at least looked up some basics Major Margo went to high school. Edith and Agnus went to Karate for like 8 hours, was it a just a Karate themed daycare, is the Karate Daycare Worker going to have to sue the AVL for emotional damages and lost wages while he can't wotk and has to move because he lost the respect of his students? Yes, somehow the evil school had to only be 10-30 minutes away from the second town and over an hour away from the city. Doable, but weird. Witness Protection doesn't really work without the disguses, Gru and the minions still look like Gru and the minions. I feel bad about the one who got stuck in a vending machine until he ran out of snacks and starved, why couldn't they just let him out by the next scene? Also who is Ralph, what happened to Kevin and former king Bob? Climax felt weak compared to the all the 5 other movies, felt smaller scale and lower quality action. I have seen Spy X Family, Gru and Lucy doing Tennis had amazing promise, and they gave up for dozens of red card jokes that did not land. Gru should have expected an evil high school pet to have a tracker, and the evil principal should have sent the bug man to Poppy's Treehouse, she only got to Gru's house a few minutes before the bug man arrived. Missing scene, I wanted to see how the bug man's bugs got hin out of super jail. Kharma Chamelon is a weird song choice, puts talent show around 1984 (after song came out), almost no 5 year olds are going to get a 1984 song reference with lipstick and wig. So somehow Gru was about 10 in 1969 to see the moon landing live, and then 14 in 1984 for talent show. That one bothers me.... In my theatre, the nearby kids almost never laughed, but a few freaked out at when the bug man gave his angry threat video.

Alr, here are my ideas to improve Despicable me 4, so let’s get on to it. (This may have spoilers) ------------------ - Instead of making Gru jr a baby, he should be a kid, so it would be sympathetic and some good character development with gru. - The opening scene should have started with the news showing that Dru has been arrested by the *AVL* due to a chase along with Vector sent back to earth (so it makes sense for the post credit thing) + also the minions are in custody for details. - Also as Gru is watching the TV, feeling sad for his brother’s arrest but gets called by the *AVL* that maxime la mal is their wanted target. - After that call, make him prepare his *AVL* suit and also make his car entry like how dru’s car is like in the 3rd movie. - At the villains ceremony, instead of making gru reveal that he’s an *AVL* agent, The *AVL* agents have no patience so they charge into it. - As the *AVL* agents are fighting Maxime la mal, they should call his name to reveal that gru is an agent and the villains are shocked. - As Gru has no choice but to fight Maxime la mal, the villains should also help maxime la mal, but some of the *AVL* agents retain them to prevent the villains not to hurt gru. - While when gru is fighting maxime la mal, Lucy calls him to take her to the hospital. But while when gru is shocked and thinking about it, Maxime la mal should uppercut his jaws. - As Maxime la mal tries to kill gru, the *AVL* agents use some device to prevent him from killing gru and arrest him. - After that, gru rushes back to the car and then it cuts to lucy trying to give birth with Dr nefario, the girls, and the 3 minions, and the man himself, Gru. Accompanying him and helping her. - After when Lucy gives birth, it cuts to Gru Jr, crying, and then when the characters says the one word “aww” Gru picks him up and covers him in a blanket, Lucy tells him to name him they should make it name him “Gru Jr” - Now as i am human and not a AI robot, i shall rest now until i feel like editing it again and putting my new ideas into it.
This is the first video I’ve seen about this movie that actually mentioned Sofia Vergara’s character, goes to show how little relevance she genuinely had in the whole thing
if it had vector return and has him hiring all the other previous villains (so scarlet and the ones from rise of gru could be from a retirement home for villains) it would have been nice
Why'd they add Poppy when they work with her for 1 big mission, then she's suddenly cool and all with Gru, enough to risk her life with him? She supposedly hates/bullies adults, yet one near death mission with Gru and she loves him. I wasn't expecting the entire movie to focus on her, but she feels underdeveloped even despite having a decent stretch of time dedicated to her. I'd rather have the Mega Minions' and the Agency's horsing around replaced with more development for her. Also did Gru even get character development? Or anybody for that matter? It didn't feel like it.
Ok because of this comment now I’m imagining this happening: Ratchet:” Clank, who is that? I haven’t seen him before.” Clank: “I don’t know who that is either ratchet?” Dr. Nefario: “GRU!! GRU!! I think one of the minions sent me somewhere far away somehow! Gru? GRU!?”
From what I can tell, it suffers from doing too much. It's not just an A plot with a B plot, there's also a C plot, a D plot, an E plot. So many plots that could have been split into more installments, or some just as shorts.
I can agree, it has way too many subplots and they all end up being too short because of it? Stuff like the badger heist and mega minions can easily be fit into a future installment
Saw this yesterday, and yeah, it's very 'in one ear, out the other'. For the majority of it, I was just bored more than anything else, which was weird considering there was a lot going on and yet almost nothing stuck. I remember the baby being cute, the minions having an impressively high body count as well as the one stuck in the vending machine(that was a good running joke) and the villain's history with Gru as well as the pay off at the end, being beautifully petty. Other than that, there isn't that much to say about it. It's a movie, it exists, that's it.
gotta love how the last movie introduced a long lost sibling only to barely explore their relationship all that much rush them to a happy ending and then not feature him at all in this movie except for a brief cameo at the end. wonder if the same will happen if there's a 4th Trolls movie? since it did the exact same thing for its Recent third film.
This entire movie felt like a budget mini-series that was condensed into a movie, pretty much every plot point goes nowhere, as if their resolutions were cut for time or something.

The whole time i was watching this movie i was thinking "oh, i wonder how this will be tied in to the main plot? Wait, no, its already concluded." It really feels like they just threw in as many characters as possible so they could make more toys. Like other people said, this would honestly be much better as a show. I would legitimately enjoy watching episodes centered around the tennis plotline or the mega minions actually doing LITERALLY ANYTHING of value.

I agree with all of it and i dont think the supermarket scene saves the film but you got to see that scene cause it was iconic, the only part of the movie I want to see again
The plot felt like a recap of an episodic series, but I didn't hate the movie, illumination always nails the visual part, and while not the best I kinda enjoyed just watching the characters do random crap. Maybe it's cuz I don't watch a lot of movies
While watching this movie I was actually so disappointed with how little was happening in a movie that had so much happening at the same time. I was upset they never focused back on the girls adjusting to their new lives and I was waiting for something to happen to an already established character. Poppy was great, but everything with Gru’s daughters gets tossed aside and I was hoping the villains girlfriend was hinting at wanting to turn against him but she just stayed a boring tag along. And on top of the villain being boring, I was not looking forward to eating my food in the theater after I realized the villain was all about cockroaches. Nasty.
IMO the movie has the following flaws: (text dump btw) - Storylines that have potential but barely have any purpose or effect on the plot and are only used for the funnies. (aka. how Lucy and the girls adapt to life in Mayflower) - Maxime has NO purpose as a villain: he’s introduced as someone who used to bully Gru, then painted as a victim who bullied him bcuz “gRu sTolE My sONg aT ThE tAlEnT sHOW!”, only for it to be revealed at the end that he was bullying Gru even before that. So he hates Gru because Gru hated him, basically! He also relies way too much on his wife to pose a threat, and if it weren’t for her he never would’ve temporarily gotten the upper hand. But more importantly, he only posed a threat to Gru and his family, unlike all of the other villains, whose threats actually affected Gru as a character. - Also, he gets defeated WAY too easily, and it’s anticlimactic. His “defeat” was merely just a way to make the Mega Minions have plot relevance, and even then, it’s honestly pathetic. - Speaking of his wife, she also has no purpose and gets defeated even EASIER than he did. - Generic dance party ending. Granted, the cover of “Everyone Wants the World” is decent, but HOW THE FUCK did Maxime become a human again? This applies to all of the other villains as well, for obvious reasons. - Perhaps the biggest flaw: it tries to be hip and modern so it can appeal to kids, but it’s pretty unfunny. My biggest examples would be the music used (including songs by Blackpink and BTS… which weren’t really needed) and the new kid characters: Gru Jr. and Poppy. They’re likable, but everything about Poppy, from her attitude to her appearance and even her lisp screams “KID/TEEN CHARACTER TRYING TO APPEAL TO THE KIDS/TEENS.” And need I say anything about Gru Jr? He’s literally just “the funny baby with an attitude” and a major plot device. If not for the plot, Gru Jr wouldn’t have any siginifance, and to top it off unlike his other children and Lucy Gru doesn’t go through any character development because of him. And in fact… - NO Character Development. I get that all the characters have already grown, but they can still grow. Show how life in Mayflower changes the characters, not how it affects them. The only characters who change just a little are once again, the new kid characters trying to appeal! The villain(s) especially don’t change one bit! - Humor is subjective, but I know not everyone is open to toilet humor and/or likes the Minions, so I’ll include this as a flaw also. - It’s really predictable at times. Ofc the baby will get kidnapped then later save Gru, ofc Maxine will manage to find Gru, and ofc the characters are too situationally stupid to put their house in lockdown! Overall, the film’s hilarity and likable characters (well, and I guess the soundtrack) are the only things that make up for the lackluster in story “kid-modern wannabe” excuse for a conclusion. I’m pretty generous, so I give it a 4.5/10, because I generally liked the film despite its flaws. What do you all think?
While I haven't watched it yet, it's clear the franchise needs to be willing to be a bit "boring" sometimes. As in, focus more on the story with a few cast of characters while putting the comic relief characters on the sidelines.
It feels like this movie had a point A and MAYBE a point B if you squint. Then they couldn't actually come up with a cohesive plot, so they came up with a bunch of modular scenes and smooshed them all together to make the audiance think there's something going on. The only parts of the movie I enjoyed was them using "Word Up" (Cameo) at the begining, "Everybody Wants To Rule the World" (Tears for Fears) at the end, and then the Honey Badger pop culture joke from the early days of youtube. Which was great, that actually got a laugh out of me. The rest of the movie, though? Not one. My biggest issue is that they wanted to spend so much time with the minons. I never understood why they were liked for more than 5 seconds, and I certainly don't understand why people would watch an entire movie about them. It was an entire 20+ minutes in this movie that they wasted either to pander to the grandma's on facebook or to pad run time. They literally served no purpose to the plot as a whole. They came back in the last moments to "help" defeat guy. His name and existance was not memorable enough. It's just annoying at this point. I saw the first movie when it came out, it was so good and it still gives me the warm fuzzies today. It actually had a plot, and you almost never see a guy adopting kids (even if entirely selfish and garbage at first) it's found family, but literal and I appreciated that. Unfortunately, the entire franchise, including spin offs, is just a pointless cash grab at this point. It's sad to see something that was really revolutionary get turned into some more soulless slop.
The ending prison scene was the only one that actually made me feel something nice. Watching the entire movie just to wait for this one scene was a drag though.
Apparently in the original stages of the movie we where going to have all the villains defeat gru but vector was gonna be the main focus of the movie I would’ve loved the original story they had instead of this villain 🫤
Feels like this movie is a victim of the first draft being pretty solid, but then subsequent drafts take and keep fun scenes without knowing why they were good. In the end, making a fun movie with little to no natural connection to each one
I wish we go to focus more on the girls, they haven’t been the focus in SO long. Then a random baby comes along and takes all the focus and some random neighbor 💀 I watched it with my mom and sister and it was alright.
I think the movie was too short for the amount of content it includes. I'm not gonna lie I liked the Mega Minions more than I thought I would but still. And also why did Gru start singing with the villains who are supposed to hate him and stuff? Dr. Nefario also did not appear enough and same thing with Dru (Not that Dru is even a good character)
I've only ever watched one and a half of the movies, and after my friend caught me up on the lore, I really think it should've stayed as a standalone movie, or stuck to just Gru and the girls as the protagonists. Yes even the woman character sounded really... weird to me for them to add. Wasn't the first movie already praised for not having a nuclear family, but a single dad with three adopted kids?
This is a movie that absolutely REEKS of late production executive meddling. Like can just feel that theres all these scenes that have been clumsily cut and replaced with something more "safe for kids". Like id be willing to bet money that in the origional script, the villain used the roach minions a lot more. Tracking down grus family and getting through the safehouse defences with roach minions, but i expect this was changed because some executive assumed that this would have been too frightening for kids. Leading to even more cuts on top of that to basically get as close as they could to writing the roach villain out of the story as they could without wasting what was probably already designed digital assets.
Something I did wish the film did was have the three daughters have more agency in the movie. Like they could’ve had some stuff about Margo struggling to fit into her new school and maybe her and Poppy forming a friendship or something Maybe have something about Anges struggling with being in Edith’s shadow and trying to become her own person. Maybe have something about her standing up to the karate instructor and beating him in a fight or something
The worst part about this movie in my opinion, is the huge missed opportunity they had to make an amazing story. If they actually cared about making a well written story and not just making as many movies as possible, they would’ve ended it here. It could’ve been about how something tempts Gru back into villainy, and he has face a hard decision, maybe hiding it from his family, but his lack of presence at home is negatively affecting them. Then maybe the baby gets taken by whoever Gru is working with (if the baby even has to be in it at all) and he realizes what’s really important, chooses his family, and then the franchise is over, unless they want to do more minion movies
Something I’ve noticed about movies, specifically animated ones is that the original classic first one is always the best and the rest of them are just boring empty jokes glued into a crap story.
This is the type of movie where you cannot use that same old excuse that it’s a children’s movie. It need to criticize. Even children deserve. Better. Come on. This is not this movie is not quality. What is visually appealing just because visually appealing doesn’t mean that the movie is great
I remember watching this for the first time with my family. And by the end of it, I asked my Dad, "So...what was the message of that movie?" And he said he had no idea. My Mom also fell asleep during this movie, which she NEVER does. 💀

If there’s 1 reason why I liked the movie, it’s because of this one background character: He’s a brain dude who’s in the background of the school reunion and the prison scene when Maxine and Gru were singing together. The school one, you can mostly see him behind Gru when Maxine is on stage talking about his little cockroach science situation. And when it cuts to Gru listening ( + the part where he reveals he’s changed to an AVL agent, wow so surprising I didn’t except that😐) you can see the brain behind him. Literally. (I’m saying literally cause “the brain behind someone” is kind of a metaphor) and then in the prison scene, you can then see him behind the 3 previous despicable me main antagonists, Vector, El Macho, and the zesiest one of them all, Bratt. If you look before it shows the 3 of them up-close, you can see the brain clapping his hands and then moving on to dancing and then right before one of those mega minions fly through the screen, you can see him dancing with someone else to the singing. @@Mintsmoth even then he only turned like 2 people into cockroaches it was so useless
True that, I'll even add that 5 minions had flippin' superpowers were done nothing with them. They were given SUPERPOWERS and did NOTHING WITH THEM.
@@gentle285 Comedies are usually absurd anyway.
@gentle285 the first movie already went through why he adopted them. And why does Gru's father-daughter bonds being explored sound weird?
I know it's "cartoon logic" but it's weird that over the course of now 4 movies, the girls didn't age at all, yet time kept going for a baby to be born. It's kindof a shame that despite the first movie being all about Gru growing a heart and adopting the 3 he would've used as pawns in his evil scheme, now they're pushed to the back because the Minions were a smash hit. Even if they came up with "things" for them to do during the 3, or now 4 movies, you can tell they were an afterthought compared to the Minion's antics and the main plot with Gru.
If I remember correctly, the writers said that none of the characters would age in any of the future movies.
@@ethansanchez6267 Oh no. They got Ash-curse too!

So at least Agnes, Margo, and Edith should have grown up AND entered a higher education.

This in turn could get Gru thinking about how maybe HE has been neglecting his OWN girls and could try to address that and have a heart to heart with them about the move and the new baby etc etc
this would also make sense since Gru himself was a neglected child :/
It would make a far better story though even then the studio cannot resit adding excessive amounts of dumb minion antics and still making the overall film a bloated mess.

But no, it had to be a cartoon logic world wherw everything just stays shiny and youthful! Stupid writers...
id say a more evolved version of that where Margot wants to go to college to do normal people stuff and Edith wants to follow more in Gru's footsteps.

Starting Scene, big issue
Like 12 AVL agents attacked an evil high school with staff and a principle and 30 evil guests... and they somehow captured everyone or put trackers on them to capture before they left unharmed??? An evil high school that has no weapons checks and honestly should not have let Gru in because he's a famous snitch.
Later all the bag guys from all 6 movies are in prison, the minions break the walls open, and none of them leave... none of these evil people who sing about how evil they are act like real humans.
Big issue
The Mega Minions story did not connect at all, AND most of the minions went to Dru by the end of the 3rd movue so why does Gru have more than a couple of his most loyal?
Minor
Why was Gru a solar panel salesman, we never saw a scene.
Minor
Why was Lucy so bad at hair, she was smart in movie 2 and could have at least looked up some basics
Major
Margo went to high school.

The ending with Gru and the villains singing "Everybody wants to Rule the World" makes it worth it
Despicable me was a waste of time.
The grass is green, the sky is blue.
Alr, here are my ideas to improve Despicable me 4, so let’s get on to it. (This may have spoilers)
------------------
- Instead of making Gru jr a baby, he should be a kid, so it would be sympathetic and some good character development with gru.
- The opening scene should have started with the news showing that Dru has been arrested by the *AVL* due to a chase along with Vector sent back to earth (so it makes sense for the post credit thing)
+ also the minions are in custody for details.
- After when Lucy gives birth, it cuts to Gru Jr, crying, and then when the characters says the one word “aww”
Gru picks him up and covers him in a blanket, Lucy tells him to name him they should make it name him “Gru Jr”
- Now as i am human and not a AI robot, i shall rest now until i feel like editing it again and putting my new ideas into it.
DAMN, your ideas are so well good.
The best part of the movie was when we saw the other villains at the end, and we got to remember what good villains are
All of them except for Balthazar bratt were actually good, even Herb and Scarlett with their couple dynamic
@@adamH.1 Balthazar is good purely as a meme. Plus he's better than 4's villain
Tbh, I used to really like the first two movies during my early childhood, but after the 2nd one they just fell off
Why'd they add Poppy when they work with her for 1 big mission, then she's suddenly cool and all with Gru, enough to risk her life with him? She supposedly hates/bullies adults, yet one near death mission with Gru and she loves him. I wasn't expecting the entire movie to focus on her, but she feels underdeveloped even despite having a decent stretch of time dedicated to her. I'd rather have the Mega Minions' and the Agency's horsing around replaced with more development for her.
Also did Gru even get character development? Or anybody for that matter? It didn't feel like it.
14:45 It's Dr. Nefario, not Dr. Nefarious. You're mixing it up with one of the villains from Ratchet & Clank
Ok because of this comment now I’m imagining this happening:
Ratchet:” Clank, who is that? I haven’t seen him before.”
Clank: “I don’t know who that is either ratchet?”
Dr. Nefario: “GRU!! GRU!! I think one of the minions sent me somewhere far away somehow! Gru? GRU!?”
… Now I’m imagining Dr. Nefarious having a bunch of cookie robots like in the first movie. Perfect 😂
Idk if it’s mentioned in his video bc I haven’t finished it yet, but another problem is the fact that they refuse to age up Margo, Agnes and Edith.
They could’ve just made it one of the funniest minion movies with just toys attacking minions.
Fantastic choice of background music from Katamari Damacy! Haha
gotta love how the last movie introduced a long lost sibling only to barely explore their relationship all that much rush them to a happy ending and then not feature him at all in this movie except for a brief cameo at the end.
wonder if the same will happen if there's a 4th Trolls movie? since it did the exact same thing for its Recent third film.
I think they should have made the girls older, because at least then it would be understandable why they didn’t play as big of a part in the movie.
5:22 its funny how animated movies are like half kids with families and half twenty somethings like me going to see Inside Out 2 for the second time
This entire movie felt like a budget mini-series that was condensed into a movie, pretty much every plot point goes nowhere, as if their resolutions were cut for time or something.

This movie should be renamed " Nice me 4 "
The whole time i was watching this movie i was thinking "oh, i wonder how this will be tied in to the main plot?

Nasty.
IMO the movie has the following flaws:
(text dump btw)
- Storylines that have potential but barely have any purpose or effect on the plot and are only used for the funnies. (aka. how Lucy and the girls adapt to life in Mayflower)
- Maxime has NO purpose as a villain: he’s introduced as someone who used to bully Gru, then painted as a victim who bullied him bcuz “gRu sTolE My sONg aT ThE tAlEnT sHOW!”, only for it to be revealed at the end that he was bullying Gru even before that.
And in fact…
- NO Character Development.
But is it…
…
…
…
bananas?
Hopefully it was a sign for a terminal finale
@@toyotaprius79considering illumination, that’s never happening
At this point, every Illumination movie is a huge waste of time except for Mario and maybe Migration.
There’s 7 movies, they’re just milking it at this point
I watched it on a sketchy website with my friend and we heard floor creeking sounds every 10 minutes 😂
The karate scene makes me want to hug ‘Brittney’
I liked the movie, really sucks to see it flopped
This was the first despicable me movie that made me disappointed
Same.
Something I did wish the film did was have the three daughters have more agency in the movie.
Like they could’ve had some stuff about Margo struggling to fit into her new school and maybe her and Poppy forming a friendship or something
Maybe have something about Anges struggling with being in Edith’s shadow and trying to become her own person. Maybe have something about her standing up to the karate instructor and beating him in a fight or something

WHY WOULD THEY NEED A THIRD ONE OMFG
@@yhluciaa 💰💰💰💰💰
This is like side plots the movie. A collection of side plots.

I just watched the movie. It was terrible. There is no plot and too much random things are happening. Waste of time.

If there’s 1 reason why I liked the movie, it’s because of this one background character:
He’s a brain dude who’s in the background of the school reunion and the prison scene when Maxine and Gru were singing together.
