Man I really appreciate that in your basses reviews you mentioned the weight. It really is a deal breaker for people with shoulder issues like me. Thanks a lot!
I think the opposite, the concept and analysis of the video is indeed very good, but the recording quality? Waaaay too muddy, that's not how this bass and the Spectors sound whatsoever which is known for the punchy treebly vibe you can't hear in this recording. I think it has to do with the way he recorded through the amp but anyways as I said you don't get a good sound reference in this video. I would recommend you to check the one in @Basstheworld channel.
To me it sounds insanely deep with some hi frequency substance but overwhelmed by that thick layer of sub-sound and not containing much of brightness or presence in mid range. Spectors NS series in general are the top notch bass design but somehow I found their sound difficult to fully embrace. I'm speaking this based on various YT clips because I'm also a distant admirer. However, if I'd ever have an opportunity to try one in reality maybe I'll find them pleasing sound wise too. And I must say that your YT clip format is great, you explain stuff quite understandable and I especially admire the infographic content you put on the screen! Cheers!
I think this is a brilliant idea by Spector. I gather they’re around 7.25lbs, which is insane for a 35” scale 5. I tried one briefly but like you I was struck by the thick, baseball bat neck. Not something I could get on with, sadly, but like all your reviews, you are very thorough and make the bass sound great!
Spector is one brand I’ve always wanted to try out, but never had the opportunity. Same thing with Lakland. Unfortunately the way music shops are these days, there’s really nothing to tinker with except fender, squire, and Ibanez.
Hey, Amos! Another fantastic review! I play Spector basses(US models), so this was a real treat! The Euro basses do tend to have chunkier necks, especially compared to their US counterparts and, yeah, roasted maple does have a very nice smell to it, LOL! Great playing, as usual, great observations, awesome graphics. This is pretty much the new standard for excellent gear review videos! I'll watch your vids even if you're reviewing something I have no interest in, LOL! Question: Would you ever consider touring with Spectors, or Dingwalls, or anything besides Fenders?
Thanks for the kind words! And in a word: yes. I use Yamaha a bunch on the road too, and rocked a Roscoe for a bit. If it fits the song or artist, I’ll play it. :)
Really good review Amos. I like how you do the playthrough with the tone availability and show the knob position at the same time. Good job. I'm considering buying one of these. Like you, I've never tried one. I play a variety of basses like yourself. I'm looking to add some metal vibes to my repertoire. I've tried Warwick Thumb. It's just not balanced well and it's heavy. I don't mind heavy as long as it's balanced. I'm just doing some research on people's thoughts on it. It seems like you generally like this. Do you have any other thoughts?
I recently gutted my old Ibanez Ergodyne and upgraded it with super doubles and an OB-2 to make a Frakendoom bass. You're right - while the top end was a little too trebly, it had scary huge bass boost. Still, I pivoted and moved the preamp into my wick, which has a much better acoustic tone for the OB's treble freq, and I'm now running the super doubles passive with two volumes and a tone rolloff. I'm kind of torn as far as SDs are concerned. They are really high-fi and nuanced, but feel a bit lack luster on a bass without any sort of interesting wood characteristics to draw from. I'd describe the sound as clear and really mid focused. If you keep the neck mostly full and search around with the bridge blend you can find some p-bass grit. The thing I can't stand is that they lack substantial punch compared to single coils or humbuckers, which is weird because they seem to be marketed as a best of both worlds. Overall, that bass is mostly a let down. I keep it around because it sounds unique compared to my other stuff. If I had to utilize super doubles on a different project, I'd probably drop a single neck pickup into a custom passive tone wood p-bass type clone. I'm sure it would help a better build sound really interesting.
What is the string spacing? I know Super Doubles are made for 18-19mm spacing, but this looks like regular Spector 5 tighter spacing. Maybe now that Korg owns both Aguilar and Spector they are doing custom stuff for the bass
Some combination of the strings/bridge/preamp is adding something tonally I can't get into; but my pretty untrained ear can only narrow it down to those because the pickups are so clear and full of harmonic content. I think maybe a better string set and a different preamp would be perfect for this bass (I personally don't find 40 an appropriate bass frequency to bump or cut most of the time)
There is a prominent “voice” to this bass for sure- and anything (or anyone) with a lot of personality isn’t going to be a universal favorite. 40 is a lot of horsepower for sure. Clarity is a big feature of this one- that’s something I’d attribute to the Aguilar setup. Their stuff runs pretty glassy to my ears.
I had the RST 4. Sounded fantastic thru my rig at home. But did not work in my IEMs with the band. Very strange. And could not quell the highs, even fully cut. But you’re not gonna get old school thumpy warm from any spector. They’re just not designed for it. But alone, in the house, thru my GenzBenz/Greenboy….killin.
Not sure if it was your mix or is it the base but dang that thing has too much bass in it! I could not hear any of the highs or mute because of how Bhumi it was. Looks good though.
Seems like a fantastic bass, I'm just not a massive fan of those specific Aguilars. Aguilar makes some of the best P bass pickups I've ever heard, but these just don't do it for me
If you're going to review a guitar or bass you've got to do it on a strap - who on earth gigs in a band whilst sat down?? I had a noodle on one of these yesterday as I was looking for a lightweight 5 string. I left it in the shop because the combination of a chunky neck (which I could get used to) with a very lightweight body meant awful NECK DIVE!! Such a stupid mistake by Spector. Get rid of the chunky neck and they could have a winner, otherwise I see dealers unloading these with a massive discount.
Man I really appreciate that in your basses reviews you mentioned the weight. It really is a deal breaker for people with shoulder issues like me. Thanks a lot!
Yeah of course! It’s also *the* first question anyone asks on Reverb
Amos Heller: *talks about literally anything regarding bass*
Me: *super interested*
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Now these are relationship parameters I can work within
@@AmosHeller (insert Step Brothers meme here) “did we just become best friends?” 😂
The slap sound with the pickups is killer!!!!!
I just got my RST and I am SO GLAD you mentioned the smell! Lol. I was like "Why do I want a burger and hot dog now?" lol
This is the best bass review I’ve ever seen. Entertaining, succinct, and excellent sound quality sampling of the instrument. Kudos

Recently got a new camera. And is smelling bass necks.
Love the content, Amos!
It’s been a weird week
Great demo! I actually just ordered this identical model and can't wait to add it to my ever-growing Spector bass collection.

I like the ones with EMG pickups sounds like an original Spector... This one has better sound th-cam.com/video/0EKl2nn6YBE/w-d-xo.html
@@jrbass62 The bass in Nate’s clip has Aguilar pickups.
New camera quality is KILLER! Really great video and audio quality- great playing too!
Thanks LEL!
Beautiful playing makes a beautiful demo ❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🫵🏻
Loved this Amos! Love hearing you play and talk about anything bass, really.
bro your bass playing is phenomenal, grooves for days. the bass is nice too but I came for the tunes. So freakin good
Just saw Living Colour last night. Now I really miss my '86 NS2. Great-sounding bass and demo.
Deeeeeeep Basssss! I love your demos man! Hope all is well.
Amos I really dig your playing and your reviews which help me to get better. I would like to get hold of this Spector bass. 😎👍🏿
Phenomenal sound and playing
Damn, this bass is sick. It cops a great Cirrus tone, as well. 7.2 lbs is a dream come true.
You are awesome! Please do a review of your Yamaha sunburst bass too
You've got some groove, bro. Interesting commentary, too. (Naps are underrated, imo.)
Crazy good tones
Beautiful tone.
Great review thanks 👍
Lovely playing.

Same here! Hard to get a hold of for some reason. they feel great. Worth the effort to put one in your hands
A beauty.
I'm not usually a bridge only kinda guy, but dang - that bass on the bridge has a killer growl. Almost a Warwick thumb vibe.
Agreed. Warwick DNA at detectable levels. Having that 40Hz control helps

The string choice is a bit contributor here too. NYXLs have very certain character to them. Definitely waiting for demos with other strings too.
There is so much low end that my Beyer DT770 pro just keeps shaking. Is the bass recorded flat, without any eq or post prod stuff?
I always associate these basses with hard styles like rock or metal but...do yo recommend for soul or latin jazz? Thank you
Did you use some amp simulation or some other plugins in these mixes? I hope not, but the bass / low end is somehow too strong for me..
Not growly and deep as lx right?
Whats the string spacing on five 16.5 mm ? I hope not
I'm glad they're using Aguilar pre-amps right off the bat. I wasn't a huge fan of their Tone Pump circuit.
oh lord why so few wraps around the post? lol
not that it matters at all but i always get at least 2
wait a minute… +/- 16db bass, as in 32db of total room to adjust? woah
great content btw, thanks
Damn that tone thicccc
I'm used to a thin 5 string neck on a Premium Ibanez. Is this neck thin also or is it a tree trunk? My fingers are not super long.
This neck is noticeably thick. Width is standard-feeling, but it’s fairly deep, especially in first position
I had the RST 4. Sounded fantastic thru my rig at home. But did not work in my IEMs with the band. Very strange. And could not quell the highs, even fully cut. E 2 C all the way on a Spector v❤

Do these still come with 17 mm spacing?
I’ll check
16.5 as is usual on almost all spectors.
Seems like a fantastic bass, I'm just not a massive fan of those specific Aguilars. Aguilar makes some of the best P bass pickups I've ever heard, but these just don't do it for me
It's a tone pump in a different wrapping. Sounds a little dead.
Sounds amazing nice and beefy but cuts through but the B string sounds sloppy and not good but overall if it was a 4 string it would be a masterpiece
I definitely think the maple euro 5lx sound much brighter and funkier sounding ...the rst sounds dark and phat ....just a different characteristics...
am i crazy or does this bass just not sound very good
neck pickup is sooo boomy
I just sent back RST4 it sucked .. felt like toy . And neck tightens in opposite direction it weighed 6lb 13oz felt like toy
Smells better than the fart pedal!
Way over my pay grade.
Yeah not a cheap one
Financing is a beautiful thing!
!!!!!!! .....shut up and take my money!!!! ....take note, this is how you review and demo a bass guitar people!

Sorry I've seen a lot of videos on this bass, so I stopped here to hear you play
