I bought this game for 2 dollars at a pawn shop. Figured it would either be a steal, or money I wouldn't miss. Now I think I'd have been better off buying a lottery ticket, or a drink, or a half gallon of gas, or a shitload of Ramen noodles. I’d have to agree with both points! I know AVGN is a character and he exaggerates some of his rants sometimes…but the way he delivers this line and his rant after playing Batman Forever really feels like James Rolfe is legitimately ticked 😂
The beta version of Superman 64 (Nintendo of course) was actually not that bad. It had no ring levels what so ever. The problem was that about a month before release, Warner Bros. demanded the game be remade because of certain reasons. Look it up on youtube or something. There was also a PS1 version made by Titus too. It was a good game with great ratings, but by that time, Titus' license for Superman had ran out and they couldn't release it. It's a shame because they both were going to be good games. Don't blame Titus. Blame Warner Bros. for ruining the game.
A bit funny how the game was downgraded with every single change from the ps1 version. I want to know what the fuck was the development process behind this game because there's no way the final release is final at all it looks more like a fucking alpha test version.

you know whats funny? if you wait at the title screen for a while you get a demo replay of the game dev's attempt at this peice of crap. and at the end he gives just gives and says f this! and even the developer is not able to fly throught the damn rings!
Games would have cards like that to input passwords from so you couldn't just copy the game to another floppy and give it away. (you could just copy the codes though...)
I remember getting my 64 back in 98-99 i was at kmart about to pick a game it was either this or winback this is where i made the worst decision of my life.

That C64 game doesn't look so bad. But, yeah, all you have to say about Superman 64 is Titus. The lesser known deformed cousin to LJN. And hell, Titus are actual developers, not publishers who have no concept of quality control or standards.
This is by far the best AVGN theme remix I've ever heard, and I always this is the episode for it. I always think it's the 100th episode, then Street fighter 2010, then AVGN fangames, then Odysee, one time I even checked the Megaman one!
So I hate to admit this, but I played this game when I was like 10. I actually played and beat the entire game. There are levels where you have to fight people and one where you have to solve a puzzle. You can get ice breath, but I never did find the Xray vision, even though there is an icon for it if you hit < and ^ buttons. also, I remember finding a bug that you can fall through the ground and die. Superman dieing from a fall. I can't quite remember how to do it, but I know it had something to do with lifting a car.
There should be a DC animated movie where someone gets kidnapped, so Superman goes to save them. He swoops down and lands on a nearby highway only to see giant floating rings forming an irregular path. In the street in blood is written "If you want to save your friends, you must solve my maze." He is immobilized by flashbacks and another hero has to step in.
To those who are curious about the creation of Superman 64 and the way it is, you may wanna check out Proton Jon's SuperMan 64 LP of it. There is info in one of the episodes where he had an "interview" with the dev. Not even 10% made it into the final version of what they wanted to put in....... ....otherwise, SuperMan 64 would have been a good game.
Let alone check out one of his live streams that are archived, because through that fortune cookie, you learn something very interesting about what you can do with the rings

The "Superman 64" episode is iconic but I can totally see why there was a follow-up several years later. The Nerd mostly focused on the infamous rings after all! 🤓
The story for this game is that you are Superman, you are stuck in a virtual reality game designed by Lex Luthor, and you must complete this virtual reality game in order to save your friends/loved ones (who are never seen outside of the game's intro and ending). Since Lex Luthor designed the virtual reality you are in, it stands to reason that everything would be designed to prevent Superman (i.e. you) from winning. Lex Luthor discovered the only way he could actually defeat Superman: bait Superman into entering a glitch-infested, virtual reality game of Lex's own design. In the 90's TV show, Lex Luthor is a corrupt business man, not a game designer!
Look on the bright side. At least you only rented it and got stuck with it for a weekend, rather than buying it and getting stuck with it for months/years.

To those who are curious about the creation of Superman 64 and the way it is, you may wanna check out Proton Jon's SuperMan 64 LP of it.
There is info in one of the episodes where he had an "interview" with the dev.
Not even 10% made it into the final version of what they wanted to put in.......
....otherwise, SuperMan 64 would have been a good game.

The game actually sold really well ironically. Back then reviews weren't as big so it was more common for people to just blindly buy a game without having a clue about the actual game play. Hence why so many people were unfortunate enough to buy that game lol.

Well Cyborgs greatest feat is tapping into any kind of tech so it makes sense.
Many people don't know this, but if you reduce the Difficulty in the Options Menu you can play the game with no rings.

The "Superman 64" episode is iconic but I can totally see why there was a follow-up several years later. The Nerd mostly focused on the infamous rings after all! 🤓
The story for this game is that you are Superman, you are stuck in a virtual reality game designed by Lex Luthor, and you must complete this virtual reality game in order to save your friends/loved ones (who are never seen outside of the game's intro and ending). Since Lex Luthor designed the virtual reality you are in, it stands to reason that everything would be designed to prevent Superman (i.e. you) from winning. Lex Luthor discovered the only way he could actually defeat Superman: bait Superman into entering a glitch-infested, virtual reality game of Lex's own design. In the 90's TV show, Lex Luthor is a corrupt business man, not a game designer!
And the antagonist switches to Brainiac at the end.
