My Dad is Yoruba and my Mum is German.
Last year i was in Lagos & Ibadan for the first time.
I spend 5 weeks there and i can recommend it to anybody.
Its an experience of a lifetime.

I had a great time in Nigeria when I was 19. I am English. I went to Abuja, kano, kaduna and daura. I went with a Nigerian friend i knew from England. When I travel Europe it is for the classical architecture but when I travel to Africa I feel like Dr Livingston observing colorful clothes, char grilled meat smell and it feels like being in a different minecraft biome than anywhere else in the world.
I went to lots of slums because I was 19 with my friend getting high on weed and codine. Everyone was nice to me even if my friend left me to go places. The men in the weed tent liked me because i brought them silver rolling papers from england.
I didnt just do silly things like drugs though. I hung out with Hausa people and they all treated me kindly.

Im Nigerian living in the UK, Czech I can tell you, they are not looking at your camera, they are looking at you because you stand out due to your skin tone and your refreshing looks. If you have live in tropical heat and humid Nigeria, for one year, you would have blended cos the scorching sun would have darkened your skin. Right now in the eyes of everyone who sees you on street of Lagos you look different from the reasons I explained. Everyone who sees you knows you don't live in Nigeria even if you don't talk. That is fact.

Czech make sure you visit the East. Lagos is not the only the Nigeria, there are other places you have to visit as well, just as you visit Brazil, you go from Sau Paulo to Bahia, Rio, Manus. So in Nigeria, in the East, you have Onitsha, Enugu, Aba, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Warri, Benin, Sapele, Asaba, Owerri. Make Sure you visit the East you see a different culture to what you see in Lagos.

Enjoy, and like many big cities in the world, be cautious. But the people are warm, kind and generous. And excellent that you have a guide. There are many other tranquil cities around the country
