You were asking where the Jamaicans have gone - as far as I can tell they have mostly moved to advertising agencies and work in TV, film, magazines, newspapers, every media that you can think of - there they are in the adverts and the programs 24/7. Jamaicans are actually extremely polite people quite contrary to their 'rough and tough' image. This is a big lesson for people who, in a lazy way, think that the stereotype is actually true. Most British Jamaicans are actually very hard-working, very studious (they are always improving their education and their children) and happy-natured. They enjoy very healthy food, exercise regularly and treat others with a lot of respect. Many Jamaican households are very strict when it comes to discipline and good manners. The gangster image is something most Jamaicans instinctively hate because it was created by the media. They are also very religious people and this produces a very positive outlook on life. One of the consequences of their religiousity is their deep warm-heartedness, openness and their genuine love for worship whether they be Christian or Muslim. One gets the feeling that their powerful God-given energy pushes them towards good things rather than bad. Their roots reggae music is another feature of their inner drive to spread positivity throughout the world and illustrates their inherent intelligence and creative excellence in many walks of life. They are, in reality, a highly moral, intelligent and spiritually strong community and quite the opposite of the false media image. I have forgotten how many times I have used the word "very" in this comment but it highlights the truth about Jamaican people.

FYI - The Jamaican patty is a derivative of the Cornish pasty - a baked pastry filled with meat or vegetables. The Cornish pasty was brought to the Caribbean by British settlers and was enhanced and modified by the African, Chinese and Indian people of the Caribbean.
@@VinaTaurus88 Incorrect actually. The Chinese were the main influencers of the Patty in Jamaica till this day the Jamaican-Chinese own the large Patty Companies.
In Jamaica it was enhanced mostly by the Chinese Immigrants despite what some may say on the Internet. Tastee Patties (Vincent Chang) being the flagrunner in its evolution over the past 60 years. Thereafter the Chin's have taken the title with Juici Patties. Every other patty company locally emulates these Patty Companies.
Lived there '99-2003, worked behind the bar at Dogstar and Brixton Academy... One of the best periods of my life. Made so many incredible friends, sitting down with strangers talking about music, life and culture. Nothing beats the vibe of Brixton, I miss it to this day.
Wendall, you captured the true essence of beautiful Brixton ❤The place and the people hold a special place in so many hearts, a community and a vibe that is real and unreplicated. The continued surge of gentrification and overdevelopment has meant that my friends who once lived there had to move away so I no longer visit. You brought the joy of nostalgia through this excellent vlog. Thank you. Love to all who took part… the best souls ❤
Lived in Somerleyton Road Brixton when I came over from Jamaica, started my career in Brixton through the house blues dance, I owe a lot to living in Brixton for keeping me rooted. For me this was home away from home..Great Video!!

My girl, her son (14) and myself went to Brixton last easter. Rented a beautiful apartment, and stayed there for 6 days. My girlfriend and son, had never been to England before, so I took a chance and said " Have you ever heard of Brixton, near London"? They had not, so off we went. The culture, cafés, bars, secondhand shops, people and the music (everywhere!), made us feel sooo good! We found everything we hoped for. Nice and kind people. We even visited Bowies child home, and The Bowie Memorial. So many good memories, from Brixton.❤
I know, and I am friends with a lot of people originally from the Caribbean. They are honestly absolutely lovely, kind, friendly people. The amount of hate they get sometimes is horrendous. Massive respect to these people, and their culture is so interesting. And I really love caribbean food too. Also I am ashamed that our own government won't help that poor veteran. Well done to the Jamaican people for looking after him.
Omg! i love this vid Wendall, it was sooo uplifting and wonderful to see that wonderful Jamaican community and vibe! I felt truly happy after watching this and wanted to immediately come to Brixton to meet all those fab people, and taste the lovely food!! Thx Wenall xx
The 13 Black youths that died were at a party in new cross not Brixton.I was in the same year at school as Gerry Francis one of the "Kids" that died in the fire, and yes I never liked him but no one deserves to die like that, and it's surreal looking at his picture now tbh

Ah, Wendell, I subbed to your channel a few days ago and have to say what a breath of fresh air you are to TH-cam. I currently reside in Blackpool and have watched your recent video of your time here. I was raised in Peckham, with Brixton as a frequent place for my friends and I to visit. The people who told you not to visit Brixton are the wrong type of persons to ask - I always say that people will eventually find whatever it is they seek out. What you experienced IS the community spirit of those who live there. You finally got to taste curried goat and oxtail, my goodness, NOW you know the joy of great food - cooked with love and it nourishes a person's soul. Life in Peckham was the same, huge community spirit, where everyone knew their neighbours and we all looked out for each other, no one ever went hungry despite being financially poor - back in the 60s/70s in Peckham, if people wanted a bath we had to go to the local swimming baths which had cubicles with a bath in and we paid each week to have one as none of the bathrooms had a bath, just a sink and a toilet in the flats. I especially l oved your Brixton video, brought back a lot of fond memories, seeing the wonderful green grocers, the butchers, bakers and local stalls selling homemade steaming hot deliciousness make me ache with nostalgia.
Great video. I'm from Dublin and I lived in Peckham 35 years go. Spent a lot of time in Brixton. It used to be dodgy as hell. Nice to see it's changed for the better although it's a shame the Jamaican population is getting watered down .
"watered down"?? what about the english community that was completely replaced and felt that the community they loved and built over centuries changed so rapidly with them having no say. Guess you never knew about the yardie crack gangs that terrorised brixton for years.
It was interesting. I thought they’d knocked down a lot of the flats in Brixton. They’re knocking down a lot of the old high rise council estates in London. A lot of the Jamaicans sold up and moved out, and I think a lot did go to Croydon. Oh well…. they can’t afford their old houses in Brixton now, as it’s been gentrified. I’m glad there’s some residual energy in the place.
Really enjoyed this episode in Brixton, Wendall.. You're a naturally friendly and sociable fella and it's always fascinating to hear you chatting to local people.. One of my favourites to date.. 👏
Honestly u may see it as a small addition but man full respect for get the peoples socials and also putting it on the screen to allow people to actually find it. Alot of TH-cam's just say shout ur self out and no matter how bad the audio is, never put the socials on screen to actually help the person out. Respect man
@juliechurley2716 If gentrification and social cleansing is your thing, yes. Brixton is like most of inner London, half ghetto, half yuppie, overpriced shithole.
I’m also 60 years old and remember the Brixton as described. Good times with the Jamaicans, reggae was massive all over London and Brixton was its heart. 🙏Happy daze!

Wow, what a vibe, I got married in Jamaica 🇯🇲 and been back a few times, it looks like I only need to go to Brixton to feel that love again. Great video bro 🙏
I'm white British I loved growing up in my teenage years in Brixton. I remember the Brixton riots in the 80s we would sit and watch people walking down the road with tvs 😂😂 I went to some amazing blues party's. I have to say I learnt living in a black community to really know how to dance. I remember the guy dancing in the market place for hours with the reggae music blasting every Saturday . So many great memories. They was also the best days for CB radios meeting people and going to party's to houses selling booze at a bar in the houses . We loved the wimpy too. Pubs was amazing at Christmas time. markets for buying presents everyone was free and happy we was all as one no one had more we was all equal working class people. Bring back the good old days. I loved all the lovers rock music playing through the market specially Carol Thompson. ❤️
Carol Thompson, I'm a 57 year old white guy, I was first introduced to Carol Thompson by one of my first girlfriends, she was always playing her tunes I was 16 at the time so in 1983, I was playing her tunes literally last Sunday whilst cooking lol

Absolutely amazing video capturing the beauty of the jamaican community in Brixton. It makes me wanna go for the food. Felt extremely sad for the homeless man and hoping his circumstances have changed.
love the jamaican community!! proper genuine giving people, find me a jamican who doesnt raise your spirit and make your soul happy. the vibes from these guys are so contagious
tbh in the 80s and 90s jamaicans from london would go to new york and when jamaicans from nyc would get deported from ny theyd come to london so theres a strong link and connection
My brethren from Sierra Leone told me the Jamaicans made the police have to respect black people because of the riots in the 80s. Great doc so far, just started watching 🇯🇲🔥🔥
Well done Wendall! As a Brixton girl, this is the best portrayal of Brixton I've seen so far. I am so glad that you felt the good energy, when so many people talk about the bad, it really is electric. And I learnt something too, thank you ❤
Saw this by chance Wendall,i was supposed to be rehearsing but had to watch to thee end and it was worth it. Nice one mate,be checking your vids, bless bro.
I worked in Brixton from 1997-2006 and i lived there for a while - the place had a few issues back then but it was still a great part of London to be in- always something going on, and a community spirit that's hard to find anywhere else - I have some very happy memories of my times there :)
The Govt turns its back on them especially but also on general members of the public. Look how they just caused civil unrest to introduce facial recognition and Shariah through the back door. Very sad.
I so loved this video and the highlight of my Jamaican people and culture. This is who we are. A tiny island in the Caribbean and yet we leave our mark anywhere we go all over the world. Thank you. As a Jamaican who moved to Merida Mexico Jamaican food is one of the ways I established myself in the community there
You have made my day! What a beautiful flog. We need to take better care of our ex service workers. 17years in the armed forces and homeless☹️I’m happy to hear things are on the up for him
When you spoke to the veteran it bought me to tears. What a place Brixton is, it seems that it has the sense of community we all crave. Much love to you Wendall your videos are getting better and better. Keep up the cracking work. 💜
Great video my favourite one yet. Love the Jamaicans . And I hope Albert makes it through his hardship veterans shouldn’t be in this situation. From a fellow yam yam respect and keep up the graft 👌👌
Brixton's diversity and culture is slowly disappearing the Jamaican community has been priced out of Brixton, the reason being Brixton is a 10-minute tube ride from central London. Now it's full of lawyers, solicitors etc high earners.
Yeah, it's a similar story to other areas of London, I'm afraid. Ther won't be a Jamaican community there in a few generations, it'll just be another rich neighbourhood.
So true. Soon London won’t have the energy that the Jamaicans bring to an area. The Elephant and Castle is lifeless, and Brixton will be the same soon. Gentrification is strategic. Authorities are taking back all the prime, inner London land, which they didn’t want forty plus years ago. Properties near the Thames’s are astronomical in price. They didn’t want the area when the docks were operating. Now they’ve cleaned up the river and the area, they’re pushing the beautiful life out of these areas.
Came across this video and subbed immediately! What a heart warming and beautiful video displaying brotherly love and kindness! I am a Jamaican living in Miami and I have never been on that side of the world so thanks for this! If I wasn’t a Jamaican I would still love Jamaicans; very warm, friendly people with good food and even better vibes! Blessed Love brother you did your Big thing with this one! ❤️💛💚🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Brixton has changed significantly. Parts of Brixton with the large, beautiful Victorian and Georgian houses have become gentrified. Property prices are astronomical. A lot of black people moved out, and white people moved in. The centre of Brixton doesn’t have that nice vibe in the evening. You hardly see black people at night. It’s mostly white people partying in Brixton.
Loved this video, much needed at the moment Wendell. I live in Chester now, if you ever fancy a visit let me know, I used to live in Bromley SE London but only ever had positive experiences in Brixton. The only sadness was Albert, no one who fought for our country should be hungry or homeless. Shame on the government! One love ✌🏻
I lived 13 years in Brixton I am Italian. It was wonderful. For me real London is Brixton. I remember the great market, the music, Red Records, jamaican food, so much REAL life. The jamaican bakery closed down, sadly... Brixton is changing. For me it was the best place in London and always will ❤

FYI - The Jamaican patty is a derivative of the Cornish pasty - a baked pastry filled with meat or vegetables. The Cornish pasty was brought to the Caribbean by British settlers and was enhanced and modified by the African, Chinese and Indian people of the Caribbean.
Nice!
Pretty accurate, Chinese had nothing to do with it though.
I do not think the indians was part of patties, it is mainly african people as Indians and Chinese stuck to their ways, cuisine and culture.

Good stuff Wendell. You have a good ability to meet decent people who have a lot of insight on the areas you visit. All the best, from Seattle, USA.
I would love to live in a community like that. Give me real people anytime. It's heartwarming ❤
My favourite video of yours yet! Heartwarming!
Lived in Somerleyton Road Brixton when I came over from Jamaica, started my career in Brixton through the house blues dance, I owe a lot to living in Brixton for keeping me rooted. For me this was home away from home..Great Video!!
South London born and bred im of Jamaican descent.. grand parents met in Brixton Market ... lots of history here and an Unspoken chemistry I feel here. Thanks for capturing his vid
You need to come to Jamaica. I'm watching from Jamaica and really love this video. Thanks for bigging up yaad (Jamaica)..... nuff love and respect
Omg! i love this vid Wendall, it was sooo uplifting and wonderful to see that wonderful Jamaican community and vibe!
This is a very important video. We are told we would be killed if we visited this area. The truth is you would be welcome. Jamaican people are friendly. You get the exception in all places. Well done, sir. This is real journalism.
Wow ..who told you that ?! Let me.guess Media ? Don't fall for the Division... make it a day out ..book a local hotel ..loads of pubs and bars around here and creative space and friendly people. I hope you enjoy Brixton when you come ! ❤
Yeah ago in the 80s and 90s u would of but now totally different xx
Who told you that nonsense ??
Yes lovely feeling I had when I visited with my Jamaican colleague in 2020. I'm Trinidadian, I had doubles in one of the restaurants too. I had something like snowcone while walking through a park. Pure joy listening to music as we walked along the street.@@dancingverona1281

Wendals the man of the people out there getting the full Brixton experience 💯
Jah Bless You O'Neil. Thanks for your services Albert.
I love the spirit of the true good Jamaican’s and Albert
Albert- I wish you all the best you deserve.
The gentrification of the area has seen many Jamaicans migrate to Croydon. 🙄
@@Levi-ol4zv yeah. expecially the thornton heath part of croydon. its a mini brixton
Outstanding my friend....really enjoyed watching you in Brixton.

Really enjoyed this episode in Brixton, Wendall.. You're a naturally friendly and sociable fella and it's always fascinating to hear you chatting to local people..

Honestly u may see it as a small addition but man full respect for get the peoples socials and also putting it on the screen to allow people to actually find it. Alot of TH-cam's just say shout ur self out and no matter how bad the audio is, never put the socials on screen to actually help the person out. Respect man

You're really lucky to have been there then and that's a great account of those days too, all the best.

Carol Thompson, I'm a 57 year old white guy, I was first introduced to Carol Thompson by one of my first girlfriends, she was always playing her tunes I was 16 at the time so in 1983, I was playing her tunes literally last Sunday whilst cooking lol
It's a shame that ex army guy is homeless.
But atleast the locals don't let him go hungry.

I disagree
Brixton's diversity and culture is slowly disappearing the Jamaican community has been priced out of Brixton, the reason being Brixton is a 10-minute tube ride from central London.
Now it's full of lawyers, solicitors etc high earners.
Same as so much of London, we’re losing the rich cultures of the Caribbean community
True.
