I subscribed to the 20GB paying on a monthly basis. I contacted Adobe via text and changed to an annual payment. Since I have been using the plan for the past nine years, I was given a discounted price of $99.99. It never hurts to be polite and ask. 😊
I got the email saying that my price was going from $14.29 per month to $23.99 per month (Australia). Five minutes later, I had cancelled my subscription. I wouldn't have minded a bit of an increase, but come on!
I've not received any notification of a price increase in Australia. Photography plan is $14.29 with 20GB or $28.59 with 1TB. There are no discounts if you pay for the full 12-months pre-paid
I switched from the monthly to yearly paid the other day (20Gb). You have to cancel your current plan and then start the new, you can't "switch" the plan. I ended up doing it through chat and it worked very smoothly.
@@paulg9042 I was not required to cancel. All I had to do was log in, click on manage account and it had an option to pick annual. Quick and easy and it also prompted that I would receive a $9.99 credit as my credit card had just been processed the monthly $9.99 fee.
Thanks again. Was not aware of the planned price increase. Used the monthly payment, now switched to annual payment and saved some money. Given the fact that I use the photography subscription a lot and see no alternative for the time being, despite the fact that I also use ON1 and Luminar Neo, Adobe software remains my favorite. Not least because I have been using it for decades.
Absolutely no justification for any increase especially in the UK. They already charge us more than than the US $9.99 was converted to £9.99 UK pounds. If they increase ours then I'll switch to infinity.
Switch to Affinity. Subject select is already in the beta version and combining it with Luminar Neo gives you software that's better and a fraction of the price. No subscriptions.
Consumer prices in the US are always exclusive of sales tax. That's because the tax rates differ per state, possibly per county in a state. Local governments don't want consumers to go to another jurisdiction where the tax rate is lower. There may be a few localities where the tax rate is 0 even. That said, for the level of innovation we get from The Mudbricks [1] and how long it gets them to give it to us, they are very overpriced, indeed. The problem is that Photoshop still has no serious competition and when you frequently update your camera(s) and lens(es) other application vendors give us lousy Terms & Conditions. I gave that as feedback to a few of them. DxO adapted their Ts&Cs shortly after and this gave a better performance/price ratio in terms of updates/upgrades. Capture One does very bad in the Ts & Cs and only makes sense in a professional studio with enough revenue for tax deduction of purchases. But I still need Photoshop, incidentally. On another level, and I take nothing back from the above, there's an inflation going on in the world. People in the USA do not want to pay taxes and anything state needs to do for which they have no money they then argue must be federal for some reason. Subsequently if they argued enough, the federation gives the money to them, but as it has no money, they issue a new loan. The federal debt is sky high, while local debts are minimal. This pushes the USD down. That's great for their exports, has no impact on local-local trade but makes imports more expensive. Basically this is what the Chinese did with their currency that they keep artificially low relative to the USD (a.o. by forbidding its currency to be traded abroad). So raising federal debt, weakening the USD may be an actual intended policy. How a large enterprise is organized in terms of exchange rates impacting their P&L then determines how they go about in pricing. Living in capitalist countries where "money makes the world go round and people too", it is almost inappropriate to point to "profit" as a false objective. What "we" users could do is better competitive comparisons that reveal the value for money we get. The competitive position. Idiots keep telling us in TH-cam that "it's the camera" and its "dynamic range" that make us suffer from "not enough photons". In reality, noise is a consequence of the Bayer paradigm at any light level. The noise we still see in our images in 98% of cases is "residual Bayer noise" that follows from "raw processing/conversion not being good enough". That should have been critique on Adobe Camera Raw (the raw processor to Photoshop - visibly - and to Lightroom Classic - as its Develop tab). But commenting on the camera's dynamic range provides an alibi to The Mudbricks to do nothing. [1] a mudbrick is also called an adobe. These bricks have very difficult color to reproduce on our displays. Also mudbricks are ideal to build houses under a watertight roof or in a cave, because when these get wet, they wash away. Bricks that are very weak and difficult in use and business case.
After a very tumultuous year with Adobe seriously upsetting a segment of their user base, just think of this as an additional incentive to consider alternatives.
Great summary, thank you. Have a great Christmas Anthony.🎉 A few people have commented that they're having problems changing to the yearly plan. There was a v good explainer by Matt Kloskowski on his u tube channel a few days ago. Even I managed to change the plan confidently after watching that....the same person who couldn't work out how to copy the video link to here!
It has been over a 10 since Adobe launched the subscription model and this is the first price increase for US subscribers. There isn't anything as dynamic with all the changes in the last decade that has not raised prices. Looking at some of the posted comments, I suspect that each country has different tax rules such as VAT which makes Adobe's cost per country different.
I went into my account and there is a way to openachat with them. I told them I wanted to switch to the yearly billing instead of monthly to keep my pricing the same. They canceled my current plan and sent me link to agree to the yearly billing and set that up for me. Took about 10 mins.
The way I understand it from Adobe, anyone on the 20GB $9.99 monthly plan has up UNTIL their subscription expires; e.g., my monthly subscription expires in June 2025 and I am NOT required to subscribe to the annual plan before January 15, 2025, but I MUST do it before my plan expires in June.
That is not my understanding. One thing that was left out of this video (at least I don't remember hearing it) is that as of January 15th, the 20Gb Photography Plan will cease to exist. If you're an existing subscriber you're grandfathered in, but if you're a new subscriber you will not be able to select it. Therefore, when your subscription expires in June 2025 you will only be able to keep that plan by paying $15/month, but you can't switch to the Yearly rate of $119.88 because it no longer exists. In order to switch to the yearly plan you are essentially cancelling your existing plan and subscribing to a new one. So, if you want to keep a $10/month plan (paid yearly upfront) do that before Jan 15th. Adobe will credit you the unused portion of the month and then you start up a new 20gb plan. You will get all the usual welcome emails, etc from Adobe. I was paying monthly and just updated mine to yearly last week.
@@Robert-Rthis is straight from the Adobe FAQ page: “Do I have to switch to the annual, prepaid plan before January 15, 2025 in order to lock in the lowest rate for the Photography (20GB) plan? No, Adobe will send you an email 30 days before your plan renewal date, at which point you can choose to switch to an annual, prepaid plan to lock in the lowest rate by paying upfront for the year.”
If Adobe continue to migrate some of the features in Photoshop to Lightroom, then for me the Lightroom package will be fine. I do not use the majority of Photoshop features, at present it is mainly the Remove feature, which is far better in Photoshop, than the Lightroom version.
Which is strange as it is after all Adobe. But you right it is way better but on other things it’s not. Meaning maybe it’s a system that is going to group us all together at big costs. Stay safe.
Thank you Tony for explaining this and the alternatives. I would have thought that Adobe should be doing this? I'm really torn here. I am 70 years old and on a very small pension. Paying a yearly one off subscription will be difficult on a limited income, so I may have to consider other affordable options.
Thanks for the information, but you forgot the main reason, Adobe price gouging. A lot of us have pretty much had enough of Adobe and are seriously looking at alternatives.
@@davelambert8898 $5 increase is significant, but giving subscribers the option to maintain same price at annual is not gouging in my opinion. I’ve had this plan for 7 years and no increases. Can’t say that about my cell phone plan, streaming plans, health insurance…the list goes on. I think Adobe has been pretty fair.
It is the first price increase for photoshop and lightroom in 10 years. Is that what you consider price gouging. Life must be hell for you when you go to the supermarket.
@@Fred-wb5nz Maybe you haven't looked at Adobe's prices across the board or done the math comparing a competitors price to own is less than a yearly Adobe plan? And yes some of us are not affluent.
Hi. Matt Kloskowski in his video on the subject said that if you are on the monthly 20GB plan the time to change to annual subscription is in the month before your plan renews. When I go and look at my account there isn't an option to change to an annual subscription. It would be good if you can confirm this.
I don't believe he said that. He said you must switch to an annual payment on or before January 15 in order to access the old pricing on that annual 20GB plan.
Thanks for these details. I’ve been visiting the Adobe site trying to modify my monthly payment plan to annual charging, to avoid the 50% increase. But their website shows and says ‘changes can’t currently be made…come back later.’ If there were a viable and less expensive alternative i’d be on it. I have zero love for Adobe.
I did the right thing leaving Adobe when they started subscriptions. To many other great alternatives out there to be paying a subscription. There are much better choices that are less expensive.
I'm in Canada. I currently pay $14.68/month in Canadian dollars plus tax for Lightroom Classic, Lightroom, and Photoshop. I hope Canadian users can also lock into the annual plan on Jan. 15. I also have an annual plan for Luminar Neo, which I use to make fixes that I find complicated in Photoshop.
I went to change my 20 GB Photo plan from monthly to yearly, to do so I would have to cancel what I am doing now and resign up for he yearly plan. It would have been nice to give me the option of clicking a button and switching. They have had issues with stopping subscriptions in the past I do not want to end up with two subscriptions.
It’s going to be full steam ahead and lots of profits to be made. I’m ok at yhdd ex moment even though our exchange rate is terrible. In the meantime I will keep my options open for other plans and see.
That's what I was going verify, because I saw that on another channel. I was thinking since my contract ends in Nov, I wouldn't have to worry about this until November.
@@L.Spencer Anthony should update his video to clarify, because the statement he made regarding deadline of January 15 for current subscribers is incorrect. But I can see where it would be very confusing. Adobe probably would prefer everyone go ahead and change to annual plan NOW. That’s what I did even though I could have waited until June 2025. I jumped the gun in a panic. I’m sure others have as well.
If Matt Klowskowski is correct (and I believe he is), this is FALSE. I just went back and listened again to his entire video to be sure I had this right. Beginning at the 6:20 mark in his video, he makes it abundantly clear you must covert to an annual 20GB plan by January 15 or you will not be able to get the same ($120 per year) pricing after that date.
Currently I run the Photography plan, Photoshop, Light Room, Classic and 20TB of storage. I cannot find how to convert to Yearly plan. Would someone point me in the right direction.
Problem with announced the dead line Jan15th for the 120$/a rate on a monthly base. I owned a monthly plan but bought every year at Black Friday a prepaid one year suscription. This year for the first time I bought 2 licences until Nov 2026. Now changing to the annual plan cuts down the second year of prepaid suscription. Now it is down to Nov 2025. No warning - no explanation. The Adobe chat bot is to stupid to get this problem. I think I need to try to get contact by phone. Al least I want my money back. Does anyone has the same issue?
@@howewe5697 I may be wrong, but if you have current subscriptions that do not end until Nov 2025 and 2026, you are good until that time. The whole idea is that people are grandfathered in, and Adobe does not require you to go to an annual payment UNTIL your current subscription(s) expire. If you let them expire, you are in trouble. Otherwise, you should be good. But you probably need to get a verbal or written confirmation of this. If you go to the Adobe FAQ, it clearly states you do NOT have to change your plan prior to January 15, 2025, if your ending subscription goes beyond that date. But you do have to renew before your monthly subscription ends.
ADOBE HELP FAQ: “Do I have to switch to the annual, prepaid plan before January 15, 2025 in order to lock in the lowest rate for the Photography (20GB) plan? No, Adobe will send you an email 30 days before your plan renewal date, at which point you can choose to switch to an annual, prepaid plan to lock in the lowest rate by paying upfront for the year.”
Careful. You heard it from Adobe, but not all employees at Adobe (or any company) are necessarily correct. Matt Klowskowski (in his recent video on this topic) emphatically states that after January 15, the 'old' plan vanishes and is no longer available. If you do not switch to an annual 20GB plan by January 15, you'll be charged the new higher monthly amount beginning on your annual renewal date (which could be later in the year). And you will no longer have the option of switching to the annual plan at the old price because that plan will no longer exist at that price.
@ If you listen to Matt at around the 3:50 mark you will hear him explain about the folks paying monthly that they don’t have to change until their annual “monthly” subscription comes up for renewal, for example June 2025, the monthly price won’t go up until then. HOWEVER, You may STILL change your payment plan after January 15 just as long as you do it BEFORE your annual “monthly” subscription expires. Yes, it’s true, the plan goes away after January 15, but current subscribers have until their annual “monthly” renewal plan expires to change to pay the yearly price vs. monthly and still retain the $119.88 price. I know it sounds confusing, but it’s true.
@@SunniDaze55 Matt was a little inconsistent on this point. I just finished changing to an annual 20gb payment cycle. The Adobe rep who assisted me in the process confirmed that this change has to be made by January 15 or the price will go up, even for those of us who have been on this plan for years - regardless of when your annual renewal date is. Matt stated that your monthly increase would not occur until your renewal date, but (critically) you would have lost the ability to lock in the lower rate after January 15. Frankly, I can't imagine anyone taking a chance on this. Just do it before January 15 and avoid the possibility of losing out. Any interest lost on this amount of money is pennies.
The whole rental business model is what pushed me out the door. I prefer the buy a product and receive updates. My recording software did it where I bought the program, every year they released a new version. If I wanted the features I could buy it at $80 instead of the $200-is full price. After 3 years if you didn’t upgrade they still sent and kept updating but to buy the new featured yearly version would be about the same as full price again. But still discounted. They liked their customers and wanted them to not feel bullied into something if they couldn’t afford it. I know it’s a strange concept making the customer happy but it seems to be better than strong arm robbery approach. What if I don’t want the cloud but would rather keep my things on my own server? With Adobe you have to go through the cloud. That way when and if they let you leave, you will most likely lose your work. I don’t keep my files or other personal things on any other device other than a separate SSD with a backup at my sisters house.
So if all users converted to the yearly plan….. where would Abode be making more money to sustain their services? Would they go out of business? I think not. This is their way to get people to pay for the yearly plan and get the money upfront. But thank you for the heads up…. I’ve heard nothing from them yet. Merry Christmas!
I'm on the $9.99 a month plan. The big issue everyone is having is HOW to switch to the yearly plan. I have struggled with this and see no option on their website.
Did you log into your Adobe account? There should be an option to “manage account” then click on “manage plan.” That’s where I had an option to pay annually. Once I confirmed, I also got a notice I would receive $9.99 credit as my credit card had just been charged the monthly fee. Already received my credit. It was seamless.
This will be my last year with Adobe. Looking forward to the tech advances by Luminar and DXO in the next 12 months. I suspected Adobe was using 2024 to create a structure and market for a price increase so this is not a shock as much as it was a predictable disappointment.
I’m not sure why everybody, including Adobe, is making this so confusing. This has nothing to do with innovation blah blah blah or price gouging blah blah blah. All they are doing is making a more clear differential between the billed monthly plan and the billed annually plan. Remember how pissed everybody was when they tried to cancel their monthly plan after less than a year and were reminded that they were actually on an annual plan and only *paying* monthly? Guess, what, the penalty was 50% of the remaining contract. So, nothing has really changed.
@@SirakawaHaruka Even though I have Photoshop in my 20GB plan, I never use it. I’m thinking about switching to the Lightroom plan when they add the Lightroom Classic feature. At least I would have the 1TB vs the 20GB and the annual cost is the same.
I've been on the fence over should I keep my Photography plan or not as I rarely use it. Thanks for helping me to decide Adobe with your 50% increase. Goodbye!
A billion dollar company price gouging the non pro. Most, if not all pros will claim this as a business expense so they don't really care much. But as a casual user who makes no money from photography, just enjoyment, I'm finished with this company, they are just pleasing their shareholders, but I expect this from billion dollar companies.
This must be USA only. I have been paying $14.29 for 20GB Plan in Australia. I have checked my account and see no price rise and I haven't had any notifications or emails on a price rise.

Hmmm. Im on the same plan as you. Maybe if we dont do it we will get a mail from Adobe saying we must? Who knows.. Someone mentioned their plan having an "end date". Do you know if thats for real? Maybe we will get an email once our current year of use has come to an end. Sort of like a birthday? Not a good birthday, but you get my point.
This may sound stupid but u did not tell people how to keep the lower price just saying you have to subscribe will not work you should fully explain the procedure . Maybe you don’t but I would

I will be dropping PS. They have updated it past my needs and my acceptable price. I now have to buy a new computer if I want to continue. I'm a hobbyist and they are corporate grifters!
They've had the same rate of $9.99/month for over 10 years, and you can still lock in that rate by switching to paying yearly. How's that being greedy? What I always found shocking was that they charged you the same rate on a monthly basis as they did for yearly. No other software company does that. It's always more on a monthly basis.
This averages out to an increase of less than $0.17/day for a app that I use to edit photos taken with a camera system that cost me thousands of dollars.
Lol explained there is no explanation they don't improve the core parts of there program and are leapfrogged by teams 1/10 the size but since it's the " industry standard" most of us are stuck using this crap.

Hi Anthony I have the clasic plan I get LR & PS I pay $10.54 a month is this plan going up?
I called Adobe and also pushed for the $99.99 for the upcoming year. Next year will be the $114.99 cost.
I did the right thing leaving Adobe when they started subscriptions.
To many other great alternatives out there to be paying a subscription.
There are much better choices that are less expensive.
I'm thinking of leaving too. Any suggestions for a GOOD alternative? Thanks in advance
You only have to convert at the end of your contract period.
That's what I was going verify, because I saw that on another channel. I was thinking since my contract ends in Nov, I wouldn't have to worry about this until November.
@@L.Spencer mine ends next December! Save your money and don't let Adobe use your money for a year!
@@tomheim9516 I didn't get that out of his video.
Time to say goodbye to Adobe then.
Currently I run the Photography plan, Photoshop, Light Room, Classic and 20TB of storage. I cannot find how to convert to Yearly plan. Would someone point me in the right direction.
Login to Adobe. Click your profile picture to “Manage Account,” then click on “Manage Plan.” I had to option to change to annual from that point.
Excellent slideshow 😃👏🏽👏🏽🥳
I just renewed it to keep the price low. I wish they had a Photoshop-only plan (which includes ACR/Bridge); i no longer use Adobe Lightroom/Classic.
too bad
Thank you
I think, the 1TB Lightroom plan is NOT including Lightroom classic.
They are adding LR Classic to the Lightroom 1TB plan.
Lightroom Classic will be included in the Lightroom 1 TB plan for new and existing subscribers as of Jan 15, 2025.
This will be my last year with Adobe. Looking forward to the tech advances by Luminar and DXO in the next 12 months. I suspected Adobe was using 2024 to create a structure and market for a price increase so this is not a shock as much as it was a predictable disappointment.
What you conviently leave out is that you are getting Firefly incorporated into PS...
Lightroom plan doesn’t include Lightroom classic.
Adobe clearly states it will be including the Lightroom Classic desktop along with the Lightroom 1 TB plan.
@@SunniDaze55 That's great. That is the plan I've been waiting for.
@@SirakawaHaruka Even though I have Photoshop in my 20GB plan, I never use it. I’m thinking about switching to the Lightroom plan when they add the Lightroom Classic feature. At least I would have the 1TB vs the 20GB and the annual cost is the same.
Time to shop around as Lightroom mobile isn’t all that.
From Adobe's website - "Starting January 15, 2025, the price of the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan with 20GB storage will increase in all countries. "
I've just posted similar (also from Aus). I wonder if these increases will occur on the plan renewal. August for me.
Judging from the Adobe Australia website it seems they are only updating the price in Australia to the Creative Cloud plan which includes all apps.
I use Davinci, GIMP, and I bought DXO Photolab. Never will use Adobe.
This may sound stupid but u did not tell people how to keep the lower price just saying you have to subscribe will not work you should fully explain the procedure . Maybe you don’t but I would
@@yamaha4015 You’re right, it sounds stupid. Good grief, Anthony gives FREE software tutorials and explanations. So you expect him to provide support with account maintenance too? Try using your own brain and google or simply log into your Adobe account and switch your plan. It’s not hard. You can always call Adobe. Criticizing Anthony is a cheap shot.
@ not criticizing. Go away
I locked in to the annual rate. Yes. Everything is going up. Whining won't change things.
Never paid for adobe, never will.
I will be dropping PS. They have updated it past my needs and my acceptable price. I now have to buy a new computer if I want to continue. I'm a hobbyist and they are corporate grifters!
Lots of very good alternatives out there. Adobe just want to increase their profits.
Adobe is no longer the best.
Greed! End of video.
Wow dragon...what a well thought out take. It's been $10 for a very long time...
With Apple taking over PIXELMATOR… it’s the end of ADOBE. I’d never, ever deal with those SCUM BAGS ever again. It’s a total joke in the coming 2025.
Actively looking to dump Adobe
yeah... NO! Bye Adobe!
This averages out to an increase of less than $0.17/day for a app that I use to edit photos taken with a camera system that cost me thousands of dollars.
This averages out into an increase of 50% 😂. That’s ridiculous.
@@nicholasnoriega1205 You've been paying 9.99 for years.
Lol explained there is no explanation they don't improve the core parts of there program and are leapfrogged by teams 1/10 the size but since it's the " industry standard" most of us are stuck using this crap.
