The front of the cassette player mode can actually be straightened if you click the hip ratchets 1 click back. That allows the front to sit flush. It's a very well done figure.
Im having a hard time even finding the Original Takara.. all I see on eBay are KOs. Theres even sellers advertising their soundwaves as originals but the prices are pretty much the same! at around $170 AUD Australian dollars. Does the real Takara Soundwave even exist anymore? in production? How do you find out? So many questions and theres not even one support team to phone and ask... Very very very poor customer service one would say. I ended up ordering a THF with 6 cassettes off AliExpress.. I just hope its the original THF! do they knock that one off too? when will the copying ever end???!!

The only major issue I've had with my entire order is that 2 tabs on Soundwave himself don't go together properly. (Amazingly minor problem that hardly effects functionality) All 6 of the cassettes are flawless. Literally 0 problems. As far as I'm concerned they're better than the Takara ones. I looked around for the OG Takara one before I bought the THF but the only one I found was listed at $340ish USD which I was absolutely not paying for a toy. The THF one is nearly identical, with the notable exception of a mission decepticon logo on his chest, but a sticker can easily fix that. Overall, you're getting basically the same thing or better with the THF as you would with the Takara. Hell Takara didn't even make Buzzsaw or Ratbat. Not to mention you can also get Keith's Fanclub cassettes to enhance your collection of cassettes further.
Bought these (2x) about $34 each ebay from miffy21584. Arrived in about 12-13 days... during COVID! Another ebay seller never sent them. I think these are a good deal overall considering how many you get, the joint quality, the paint quality, etc. One of the Lazer Beaks had a spot of yellow paint on the top of the head. One of the Ravage dogs had an issue with the front leg pegging into the rear leg when folded up as a cassette, preventing it from being the right shape, thus causing issues trying to put it inside Soundwave and have it slide / pop back out. It was very minor, but just enough that I don't want to put the cassette inside Soundwave and have to struggle to get it back out. Also, I REALLY do not understand how Rumble and Frenzy piledrivers work. They just seem to kind of 'slide' on. It actually almost seems to work better if I leave the hand unfolded, but then you have to use the correct piledriver on the correct arm (not interchangeable between both arms if you do it this way). If you're a nostalgic dad like me, getting toys for your kids to have, these are fine, great even. P.S. One Ravage stood perfectly, the other had a hip that didn't rotate as completely as the other, so it stood but kind of crooked until we worked it back and forth a couple times. My daughter volunteered to "rescue" him because he's "unique", haha.
Does it feel the same when holding it? I personally love my KO, though it does have one glaring error with the faceplate. But it looks great, poses well, and everything snaps together extremely well. What would you say is the difference in plastic quality?
@@BotsandBits Anything is better than that cheap KO. I, foolishly, went with it first, only for its hands to fall apart. I’ve ordered a replacement set of KFC hands for the original MP, and hope they work better. For now, it’s stuck in “Walkman” mode. I plan on getting the THF version, as the THF cassettes I was gifted are AWESOME for the most part, and so much fun to mess with.

125 bucks American or Australian? It's 5 years later now, and I just got the Sonic Wave and cassettes set, but I paid like $92 after shipping and VAT. It all works very well, btw, apart from the loose joints of Rumble, Frenzy, and Ravage. I think the joints on my Soundwave are fortunately a bit tighter than the one you got.
I'm new to collecting. I just got this and I'm quite happy with it. But I'm unsure what the difference is between a THF or Masterpiece version (be it KO or not).
I hope someone can list the differences between the thf n ko version, me needs to make a decision Nvm went to do the trouble myself so imma list it below lol: - Gold paint on Ko is identical to the paint of the stripes on the side, paint of THF is not identical to the colours of the stripes next to it - On the Ko’s head the silver “ears”(I dunno what to call them) or helmet part next to his mask is shorter and more similar to Takara but the THF version has a longer and more prominent ears - Visor of KO is transparent red plastic while Visor of THF is a glazed non transparent red - KO has more detailing throughout while THF is a little simpler skipping out on some design detailing choices -Ko may be in a darker shade of blue as compared to THF -THF comes with his tapes unlike the Ko -Joints on THF are possibly tighter than KO - KO’s head is a little narrower/Thinner from a side and back view while THF is more bulkier overall - KO’s mask is smaller than THF’s mask

It's funny the only part of KO version I don't like is the alignment issue with the leg ratchets being a bit weird and the very matt looking dials - other than that it has the most appeal to me. This latest one is "fine" but I don't need the cassettes again so it's not really practical - I'd certainly consider it as a novelty bought loose with no cassettes though and I wouldn't mind the cassettes if they were very cheap - but they have no more than novelty value to me. ( I do prefer the blue ones' deco though). I'll probably wait and see what the next one is like - but I'd consider the knock-off as a novelty purchase - which one has the best hands would also be a factor in my buying choices too - The powdery silver on the arms looks fine to me - I actually prefer it on everything but the buttons as it's more matt looking which looks more tasteful to me. But the Ko version is so Cheap it's worth it to me as I'm not likely to play with it much anyway (as MP's tend to not be much fun as toys to play with - for me at least) it's just going to sit on a shelf mostly. But another factor is who make a repaint i'd like too. SG Soundwave for example would be a big draw for me..
Hasbro's Year of the Goat Soundwave set makes this and the straight MP13 KO look like godsends. The plastic is pretty thin (nope, they couldn't be bothered with using a stronger kind of plastic seeing as they went with clear plastic painted bronze in some places), and none of them - not Soundwave, not his minions - will hold up for even a full year if you, y'know, actually play with or transform them. But seeing this...I think I should be a little happier with it...
I was getting confused I was going to get a sound wave thf KO figure that comes with laserbeak and was watching your video reviewing the one that comes with all the tapes and I didn’t know if there’s any difference.

I just got two THF soundwave and lazer breaks off ebay, good seller from China actually delivered perfect_bid_price, $50 US each. Our elbows are stiffer and hold the guns very well. I noticed you did not show the instep of the feet folding, can't figure out why they do. Also, it looks like you were missing the tiny silver "rocket booster" that tabs into that vertical rectangle receptacle down under the butt flap. A loose joint here and there, one lazer beaker is missing the forehead gun, other than that very pleased.
Make sure you're ordering from a reputable site, or look at review details to make sure Chinese are able to deliver the package. I had two sets never arrive, had to dispute and order elsewhere.

There are two versions if im not mistaken, the first version is this, comes with the all the tapes in a huge box, I think I paid 80 for it back in the day, the second version or the second run of the Thf does not come with tapes, just the figure and the box art is different.And also cheap nowadays. I see second runs pretty often off Taobao or Ali running for 40 bucks...
I got mine for £65 on eBay with tapes(came in two separate boxes so I have two lazerbeaks as a result) overall very happy with it, wouldn't recommend putting more than one tape in him at a time though as the eject mechanism you use the button on the back for isnt very strong and apart from lazerbeak and buzzsaw the other tape corps are slightly bigger and catch inside( took some work to get them back out lol). Love your reviews they have really got me right into the masterpiece toy lines, thanks you.
reven148 me too, I got them seperately. I can put 2 cassettes in, but they’re both the condor mode. Mine won’t lock properly in the third position. I find on mine the quality of everything is better quality than in this review, probably because I bought them separately.
You could use the nose hair pluck thing or try use a stick. Just want to inform, only laserbeak and buzzsaw the only figure that can fit into soundwave because they're smaller compared to the others
Honestly why would people even buy the hasbro version. You get yellow eyes and less paint so even if the thf paint isn’t applied very well it’s got better colours and you get ratbat
Bought the Hasbro version back in the day, when the only options were Hasbro and Takara. Got it for $100 with all tapes, then bought reprolabel set to give him red eyes and all the details you could want.

I like the butt flap I'm happy that somebody at least did something about that even if it's not as well done as it really could have been seriously missed opportunity but still not really bad I guess although I wish there was a way you could combine the best aspects of all these different figures together
I just ordered the Jinbao Devastator. Leaps and bounds better than Weijiang. Lights in the eyes that you just need a press of a button to turn on. Batteries included.
This is EXACTLY my sexperience with the figure. Some tolerances are too tight, some tapes are too loose and all inthe same places you pointed out. I cant get the "scanner" to work in alt mode as a battery pack, because the holes dont match up to the ones on the left leg in player mode. I paid 100, they it went on sale for 90 a few days later, but overall, I guess I am satisfied since i see this is what the figure is. Thanks for your review.
Dude you are being a little harsh for 60 pounds instead of 250 pounds I think it a bargain, you do come off as a bit of a snob buddy. For those of us who don't have unlimited funds for collecting this is a perfect answer to having a collection without the cost, not as an investment but for pleasure. Yes if you collect for investment then being picky is a necessity, but if you collect on a budget for pleasure and just throw away boxes as I do this is a good option. Maybe you should have mentioned that those on a tight budget then this is for you. Just saying buddy.
Precisely this is a way better alternative compared to how much the mp goes for now, and how dated the mold is due to its release. I just ordered mine and cant wait to just play with it on my desk at the office. If you're a purist this has a lot of flaws but for those that just want that look I think this does it on all departments
Several years after the review, buying one of these (with just soundwave and laserbeak) is actually cheaper than any legacy or even kingdom voyager here in my country. Hasbro stuff is insanely expensive. I can get a ko Mp20 wheeljack for cheaper than eitheir earthrise or SS86 wheeljack.

Toyhouse Factory, Robot Hero and generic ko in takara box. All 3 are on my channel. I would recommend Takara in this case. If you must go ko, get Robot Hero if u can find it. Its quite difficult now. Toyhouse factory is easier to find, and good in its own way.
i bought mine from ebay and it was only au$60 which is awesome and it was worth the money tho my one's hook for the chest part was broken but i got a few bucks back and managed to fix it myself
repaint the ko and make it soundblaster then either keep it or reinact the seen in headmaster in witch him and blaster are killed him still as soundwave

First release back in may 2017 included all tapes. THF no longer include them, only Laserbeak. Other than that, no difference.

I got mine for £65 on eBay with tapes(came in two separate boxes so I have two lazerbeaks as a result) overall very happy with it, wouldn't recommend putting more than one tape in him at a time though as the eject mechanism you use the button on the back for isnt very strong and apart from lazerbeak and buzzsaw the other tape corps are slightly bigger and catch inside( took some work to get them back out lol). Love your reviews they have really got me right into the masterpiece toy lines, thanks you.
reven148 me too, I got them seperately. I can put 2 cassettes in, but they’re both the condor mode. Mine won’t lock properly in the third position. I find on mine the quality of everything is better quality than in this review, probably because I bought them separately.

Google Gundam Machine Nest :) There's a KO as well, but they're slightly incompatible with Machine Nest.
For the significant price saving I'd take floppy limbs & bad paint jobs.

I just got this Soundwave and its awesome looking. All I had to do was place a Decepticon decal on the chest. I paid $54.00 on ebay with free shipping
I got the tapes and soundwave separately and they are better quality than in the review

You could use the nose hair pluck thing or try use a stick. Just want to inform, only laserbeak and buzzsaw the only figure that can fit into soundwave because they're smaller compared to the others
Robot hero seems like the next high quality KO company since Weijiang. Do you know whats else they have planned for future besides the soundwave?
They're also creating a MP36 Megatron MP 1:1 KO with improvements. No word on when though.

Honestly why would people even buy the hasbro version. You get yellow eyes and less paint so even if the thf paint isn’t applied very well it’s got better colours and you get ratbat
Bought the Hasbro version back in the day, when the only options were Hasbro and Takara. Got it for $100 with all tapes, then bought reprolabel set to give him red eyes and all the details you could want.

Yes, these are the same as Tape corps. Quality may vary as they do with ko's.

Fan toys did, it's called Acoustic wave and it is (IMHO) the DEFINITIVE Soundwave KO. I highly recommend it, IF you can find it anyway.

I just ordered the Jinbao Devastator. Leaps and bounds better than Weijiang. Lights in the eyes that you just need a press of a button to turn on. Batteries included.

This is EXACTLY my sexperience with the figure. Some tolerances are too tight, some tapes are too loose and all inthe same places you pointed out. I cant get the "scanner" to work in alt mode as a battery pack, because the holes dont match up to the ones on the left leg in player mode. I paid 100, they it went on sale for 90 a few days later, but overall, I guess I am satisfied since i see this is what the figure is.

Dude you are being a little harsh for 60 pounds instead of 250 pounds I think it a bargain, you do come off as a bit of a snob buddy. For those of us who don't have unlimited funds for collecting this is a perfect answer to having a collection without the cost, not as an investment but for pleasure. Yes if you collect for investment then being picky is a necessity, but if you collect on a budget for pleasure and just throw away boxes as I do this is a good option. Maybe you should have mentioned that those on a tight budget then this is for you. Just saying buddy.
Precisely this is a way better alternative compared to how much the mp goes for now, and how dated the mold is due to its release. I just ordered mine and cant wait to just play with it on my desk at the office. If you're a purist this has a lot of flaws but for those that just want that look I think this does it on all departments
Several years after the review, buying one of these (with just soundwave and laserbeak) is actually cheaper than any legacy or even kingdom voyager here in my country. Hasbro stuff is insanely expensive. I can get a ko Mp20 wheeljack for cheaper than eitheir earthrise or SS86 wheeljack.

Toyhouse Factory, Robot Hero and generic ko in takara box. All 3 are on my channel.
I would recommend Takara in this case. If you must go ko, get Robot Hero if u can find it. Its quite difficult now.
Toyhouse factory is easier to find, and good in its own way.
