Sorry to hear the RS going Mark. Despite your problems, and your joy of driving and if you were honest, with owning it I've looked forward to seeing your videos. Believe it or not your experience with your RS has actually inspired me to swap my ST for an RS. It's been heaven since the beginning of September. Problems or no problems I'm sticking with it. The RS in any " Mark " is an iconic car. Good times, bad times, just remember the cherished times with your RS and I wish all the best with your next motoring venture 👍 Looking forward to the videos !!

I've owned the Focus RS for 1 year now, using it as a daily driver and made some long trips with it. Great experience. Especially on the Nordschleife :). I test drove a M3 F80 yesterday but I was not really impressed compared to my test drive I had in the RS (coming from MK7 Fiesta ST). No issues so far with the RS, just the head gasket replacement that took only 3 days. Has been the perfect car for me so far!
Enjoyed the videos with the RS, good luck with the next car!

That's really to bad. I've really enjoyed your journey with the RS but it does make me glad that I went with the ST. I've been driving ST's for three years and only been into the dealership for a TPMS sensor and issues with the rear defrost. Good luck and I can't wait to see what you get next!

Its a mature decision to make, a car needs more than a big engine and great handling to be a 'good car'. At this level if it lets you down and causes stress then its a compromise and its not one worth making. Peace of mind is worth much more, Ive chopped in 18 month old cars with much less problems than you have suffered so its safe to say you have given it a good go. I look forward to seeing the replacement and Im genuinely sorry to see the outcome of your RS adventure. Better luck for the next one ;)

I hope I don't have issues with mine (I purchased after the headgasket issue) and I haven't heard so many issues with other owners. It's a shame because I know how much you've enjoyed the car. I've been on the fence for what to get as my next vehicle for a long time. Mark, I've been watching since the beginning of this journey, and you've provided such terrific insight for the RS that it was influencing my decision towards getting one. Since Ford is no longer making them, it would be difficult for me to justify the cost & potential headaches. Then again like others have said, you could have just been rather unlucky with this example.

  • @AdamLeask
    @AdamLeask 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm stunned Mark, still trying to come to terms with you having traded in the RS. I know your ownership experience has been less than stellar, but I didn't see the car going quite yet. I can only see you replacing it with another manual, so my money has to be on either the M140 or the i30N. Hoping you'll continue to document your future car history for us all to follow along.

I appreciate your honesty and I'm sorry you have had these issues with the focus, shame as it does look a lot of fun to drive. I'm interested to know what you are replading it with. YOU were the person that tipped my decision to buy my Fiesta ST 5 door in May 2017. I have not had any trouble so far in 16000 miles. The recent publicity regarding cracked ecoboost engines, mainly the 1 litre, worried me but I have been reassured that my ST is OK. These things do knock your confidence in the brand though. Pete.

I kinda know how you feel buddy. I had 2 Mazda 6 MPS's, great driving car, power, handling, traction, looks, comfort, certain amount of practicality but man are those engines soft. My first one ended up throwing a con rod through the block, and the second one blew the turbo, which revealed
multipile other issues when being repaired. Such a shame, like you said as a concept, it was brilliant.

  • @noggintube

It's a shame this happened, I followed your posts when i was on the Fiesta ST forum and was interested when you moved to the RS to see how you got on with it. I moved up from the Fiesta and went for a M140i (I have no brand allegiance by the way, just enjoy a car for what it is). Very different beast and not perfect but can be a great laugh when handled well. That said I actually still miss the old ST on the back roads :)

  • @maddogsd
    @maddogsd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

I find your decision contrary to your proclaimed love of the car , yes you have had to cope with ford taking care of the issues you have experienced but they have stood behind their product. After each issue you carried on with how amazing the car is stating the car was worth it anyway and no other car is like it in its price point. Your commentary and excitement played a part in my decision to buy my 2018 Focus RS L.A.
I haven’t had a single problem and the car is everything you claimed - NO REGRETS HERE.
Best success to you with your new ride! Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

    Hi Mark
I'm totally in agreement with you and the quality and aftercare Ford do or do not provide. I came to a similar conclusion within days of my ownership but so far after 8 months I still have it. It's still owned not through sheer pleasure of driving but sheer perseverance of ownership. I've been hunting for a fitting replacement but as yet have not decided. My previous 2009 Cupra K1 had better build quality and dealer support. With Stage 1 & 2 tunes it was also great fun to drive and more compliant as a daily than the RS. It was also a fraction of the value of the RS. Good luck with what you move on too, I may even follow.

  • @GG-im1cb

I know exactly how you feel I bought an L200 Warrior years ago and they quickly became synonymous with cracked heads and spinning big end shells at relatively low miles, and it spoiled my enjoyment living with constant expectation of catastrophic failure. Thankfully it never went during my ownership, but it did go a year after I sold it.
I did fancy moving up to the RS from my late model ST225, but there’s just too many horror stories with them in terms of reliability. 👍🏻

Mark, Me and the Mrs started with the Mk2 ST3, 3 door, brand new, blue, remapped, big intercooler, new intake, blue flame cat back, 280+BHP, awesome car, had it poly bushed right thru, was driven hard by the Mrs more than me but i loved that one, had it just under 7 yrs, so like you with the RS we wanted it long term. We traded it for a mk3 ST Gen1, what a mistake, wiring loom issues, Ford
left us in a dangerous car for 4 months as they "could not find the issue" in the end simple Google search found the issue, 100k recall in the US over the same looms ...its really not hard is it ;-) Then we traded that for the RS, like you a dream car for us, decided no mods, just as it is, drive it hard, track day it, love it, within 2 weeks of us owning it I was back in the dealer asking if the engine was going to fail, it did not help they delivered late to us anyway as they found an issue on PDI day which turned out to have been caused by soaking some sensor on the intercooler when they washed it!
From then we never 100% got on with it, fear it would break, looming recall, people making jokes about the car even though we loved it...it all nagged us, so it went.
Ford failed the RS imo this time, they failed the Mk3 ST also, in fact ecoboost is the issue, not just the 2.3L the 1.0 also is proving a failure. The 2.0L seems semi bomb proof, why oh why did they not use that for the RS?
Its a real shame, i lost 10k in 16 months on that RS, never again.

Sad to see you and the RS part ways but 15 trips to the dealership would be heartbreaking. My I’ve had my RS 473 days and it’s been a beautiful experience so far. I plan on having this car for another 4 plus years as long as Subaru doesn’t mess it up and come out with an amazing STI. 😂 Looking forward to see what’s next for you Mark and hopefully a much more satisfying ownership experience.

I can only guess that they are just either trolls or Ford haters . I find your videos extremely interesting and are based on facts . I presume that some people are so bored with their pathetic lives and the fact that they are nobodies , they feel the need to something exciting and radical by watching videos and hitting the thumbs down .

Such a great shame Mark. I've had zero issues with mine, has been faultless, including 2 trips to Nurburgring, one to Spa and being used as a daily driver. From your experiences though, I totally understand. Intrigued with what you'll go for next. I test drove Civic Type R and Golf R. Golf R the best all-rounder, Type R a better driving experience. In my humble opinion. Or you could go large and go for Nissan GTR!

I drive an I30N with around 300bhp and 340 ft/lbs torque. It’s a pretty special car, particularly for a first attempt. I’m worried you go for an A45 AMG or RS3. I’m not a huge Ford fan, but the mK3 RS is, as you say, pretty special and those other 2 cars I think will leave you a bit flat. You obviously enjoy driving cars and the experience, feedback and connection you have with a car. I’m
not sure those cars I mentioned will satisfy that for you Mark. Anyway, good luck with whatever you choose.....👍

I was so close to getting the RS, if it weren't the uncertainty of reliability. M140i is my pick at the end. Happy day.

Mark, it is a shame that this car which you enjoy driving so much has to go but I 100% understand the reason why. I have been in this position before & that is stressing yourself out because of a car is simply not worth it. I hope your next purchase will give you hassle free motoring & fun driving. Many thanks for all the videos with the Focus RS, as I have found them to be most informative about but above else finding out what it really is like when it comes to ownership of these especially when things go wrong because you have been very truthful about it all. Cheers.

Hey mark, I know it’s been a while since this was posted and I recently just bought a late 17 rs without the head issue let me tell you sir! And everyone else reading that has/had an RS if you feel like you baby your car… don’t! I assure you I’m out there beating mine enough for all of us! That’s what it’s about!

Nice one, that's exactly how it should be Jonathan, cars are for driving, paintings are for looking at. Far too many RS 'enthusiasts' are scared of putting miles on their sacred cars! 😂

Sorry to hear this, mine has been problem free, only done 4000 miles though, got to say I'm not sure where to go for service, it's a long trip to the dealer I purchased it, my local dealer in Seaford say they can't do it, didn't realise Worthing is a RS dealer, would you recommend them?

I owned a 62plate focus St and it spent 45 days in ford service centres in the first 2 years of ownership due to so many faults some that they struggled to even get to the bottom of! This is the same reason I had to see it go .......so I replaced it with a 330d xdrive and wow what a car but the ST was a great driving experience but also a headache.

As a Mk3 RS owner this video is very interesting, I’ve had mine just over a year now from new and never had a single issue with it. I’ve just had first service done without issue and it’s not been back to the dealer other than this. I’ve just discovered your channel so would be interested to know the other reasons yours went back to the garage so often?

Im fancying one of these now, i would hope things may have calmed down problem wise on a 6 year old car with a bit of mileage on them.
With prices now closer to £20k they are a reasonably good buy.
Ive considered an M2 as well but i think this is the better car for our weather/roads and mainly weekend use.

Good luck Mark I will still be watching as I really enjoy your channel 👍

I love Ford cars to pieces but I can totally understand why you want to move on. If my car be it Ford or anything else gave me as much trouble as what you have had I would be selling too. I will be staying tuned to see what it is and to follow your ownership experience with your new car.

Hi Mark. I been subscribed since the days of your fez ST that's what initially made me get one. Well two fez ST's in (one white, one molten) mine was stolen two weeks ago. I gotta say I'm glad that you are getting rid of the RS. As myself great cars but too much trouble to own, I'm fed up with the whole ford thing and I'm looking for pastures new so I'm interested in seeing what you have next. Hopefully not a ford eh.

Sorry to see that this is the last vid, really enjoyed them all as a fellow RS owner. I do agree that owning one has had its frustrations. Currently as I type this mine is undergoing a full diagnosis by FordUSA as the cabin keeps smelling like gasoline. This and the rattles on the dash, sidepillars and the rear spoiler as it turns out wasn't connected properly from the factory and nearly came off. My confidence in this car isn't where it should be. I had an STI before this and in the 5 years of owning it nothing happened, nothing. I'm also concerned about its resale value. I will echo what Mark said and say that the car is amazing to drive but it comes at a price that after 1-2 years you might question what the hell for.

You are saying EXACTLY what every RS owner will eventually admit and realize. Just takes time, some people are in deeper cognitive dissonance than others and it requires a more.... violent epiphany to snap them out of their fanboy trance. Im on board with you, ive been over this car about 6 months into owning it but just cant decide what to replace it with. I NEED a 4 door hatch with AWD. And I dont like the golf, the audi is overpriced, the STI is 20 years old and still has engine issues, and the evo is gone. Im left with no options. Ive played the RWD sportscar game for years and they are USELESS for half the year where I live, otherwise I would have a Z06. Fuck this car, 90% of my issues with it are FORD and their service. Fine, you built a glass cannon, at least own up to it and support your damn customers. They just skirt responsibility when possible, and put a fucking spongebob band aid on the issue when they are legally forced to adress it. For all the fanboys out there that stand firm I say this, its not IF it will become a headache, its when. The 2.3 ecoboost is a direct injection DOHC version of a lima from the early 80s. The lima is a fuel injected bored and stroked version of the pinto engine from the early 70s. Aside from emissions and modernization BOLT ONS it is fundamentally the same engine. So effectively ford has taken a straight 4 from 1970, and put 26 pounds of boost on it. Anyone who isnt a retard will know that VERY high for a stock car. Stock supras, evos, stis, rx7s, 3000gts etc etc run less than half that. And THEY mostly have engines that were designed from day 1 to BE a force inducted engine and built to withstand the additional strain. Now days ford is more concerned with how much they can get away with shaving off the block to save on raw material cost than if the engine can take the stress. 350hp/tq from a 2.3L open deck block with sections of sidewall thinner than your fucking fingernail is a LOT to ask. Its like a video game, where you pick up one of those guns you can only fire 10 shots. Its 10x better than every gun in the game for 10 shots and then its over. Ford knowingly built a FANTASTIC performance car out of tissuepaper. Which would normally be ok if they were willing to stand behind their product. But they arent. I will end the rant with a line that will summarize my feelings perfectly. The Focus RS is the most exciting time bomb ive ever owned, and im both proud and dissapointed to have done so.

Factually wrong, the Ecoboost isn't a development of the Pinto, it's based on a Mazda block. All of the waffle really originated from the schoolboy error with the head gaskets, other than that why complain about a £35k car with performance that would make one at twice the price blush. IMHO it's got 2 big downfalls, the interior is a bit naff but the biggest is the ride is far too harsh & ally that to the abysmal state of our roads then damage is going to occur.

    • @santaclause6462

@@ianwalton5156 Yeah lots of Focus RS owners fully bolt on without issue with tons of miles I have a friend with one that's never had a issue with 50,000km on it full mountune, and I know 2 ppl with a Focus ST 2.0l ecoboost and 1 that HAD a 3.5l ecoboost F150. The F150 3.5l had the same issues my 2.0l ecoboost had and his blew up. I fixed my issue tho, dealer was totally useless at diagnosing and fixing it... I had to research myself and realize the cause and fix and it turned out to just need a good 20 pulls 0-100km/h stop repeat 20x to break out and burn off all the carbon and its been fine ever since.
His RS seems totally fine now too finally but I can get his disappointment and him not wanting it anymore too.
