That little crackling sound of the fish chattering as you're underwater really just takes me back ❤ Ahhh, I wanna go snorkelling again so bad! I haven't been since I was in the Maldives 3 years ago now. That turtle really put on a show! Well done spotting the crocodile fish - what a cool guy he is!
You should check out the local village on the island (if u are still there) its crazy how they build those tiny wooden houses on the piers. Also try to do a dive (discovery dive) if you can. For me it was the first time diving there (without the boring theory stuff) and it was definitely another experience than snorkeling. Will you head to Sipadan as well?

As far as waste management all resorts are required to properly dispose of trash, human waste is put in the ocean by all resorts that are on stilts since any sort of septic system is banned since they wash away during storms.
From what I read on the reviews from some places online, not all accommodations are properly disposing of there trash... But I can totally imagine this about the septic systems, that could be very damaging if that washes into the ocean.
I have been to Mabul last year and going again next year but still sad to see trash there. I am hoping that the government seriously sort this out because this will ruin their economy in the terms as tourists will not want to come here in the bear future if this continues

Not sure, I did not visit Mantanani. But Mabul was incredible!

How much was the boat ride going there?
I had booked a full package that included food, accommodation and diving, so not sure how much a boat ride would cost.

Having a turtle conservation area on mabul is not going to help marine life as there is no waste management on the island
If they are able to collect the eggs and release the youngsters from there, at least it is something I guess...
