Carl immediately leaving the big scary guy and then staying in a dark room for 10 minutes is pretty funny.
Best part by far.
I've done that room before turning on the lights on every playthrough, even my first one. I walked in, thought "Huh. There's probably some kind of light. But where's the fun in that?" and spent like an hour doing it. Second playthrough I thought "How funny would it be if I did it again?" And then every time after, I just did it because I could.

@@crappiefisher1331 the boss fight doesn't appear in the dark, even if you have Dream Nail. But the Mask Shard is 100% obtainable in the dark. I never claimed I didn't come back later with a light (although I probably wouldn't have if not for the Warrior Grave pin), just that I went through it in the dark, which Carl showed is very possible by almost doing it in a 1/3 of the time it took me to complete it in the dark.

I love that Carl runs away from a scary monster in a metroidvania when he hasn't been denied by his abilities lacking, but then spends 15 minutes walking in a very dark area with no light
right? xD
First playthroughs of Hollow Knight are always a treat to watch. True blind playthroughs are even better; watching people try to puzzle out the game's story and lore is fascinating. Hopefully Carl's chat doesn't spoil him on too much.

we try our best to remove spoilers before he sees them but there certainly is a lot. thankfully im pretty sure nothing's gotten through yet
@@christianhowell3140 Don't be such a debbie - you can say the same thing about almost every big game's fanbase - there's always a few rotten apples but still a lot of streamers manage to have good blind playthroughs
@@christianhowell3140 if you're very strict about it then people will usually stfu but you have to be very clear about it and also just time out or ban people if they dont listen
Watching how militant the spoiler police has been in the chat, I think it'll be fine. It got ridiculous at times, like when people told him he could scroll the camera up and down, Carl said he was fine with info like that, and people still argued about it for a while afterward.
I can get wanting to keep it a pure experience, but stuff like that just seems really petty. I guess it just comes down to what Carl wants, and from what I can tell, most people were following the rules pretty well.
Shout-outs to that guy in chat who said "You should still have a night vision potion in your ender chest I think" when you were in the super dark area

@@CarlPlayin42 exactly, and then the people who do wonder why no one watches. Hollow Knight isn't a game for quick edits, and it should be a sin to treat it like one. Editing out backtracking when you don't find anything is probably the only un-insulting part to cut out. I love this game.

Yeah, like terraria then it's best for quick editing or highlights, cause it's gonna have a lot of breaks in there, for hollow knight these types of story games, it's best to leave all of them on

My favorite part of this stream was Carl working his way through the dark shrine. Was it needlessly difficult? Maybe. But it was a fun tense exploration. You know he was engaged with a challenge when he "only one more"d the whole thing multiple times.

... which is why it's weird that watching this causes me so much stress LMAO! With as many hours as I have in the game, it's almost foreign to me to not know what direction to go next, so it really is a fresh change of pace watching you slowly learn the map and uncover bits of lore. But what gets me stressed are moments like when Carl just straight up turned around as soon as a monster roared at him! He was SO close to realizing that there's nothing stopping him! I think I have to leave it here for now and watch the rest later, but it was too much for me how much he teased going back in! IT WAS RIGHT THERE, JUST A FEW STEPS AWAY!!! AAAHHH XD

I decided to play hollow knight after I watched the first couple minutes of this. I got all the way through greenpath before I came back and watched this video. I cannot believe you beat hornet on your first try! You are so much better at gaming than I am 😂 Now I need to go beat a few more areas so I can watch the next video :)

This game is amazing, the art style, music, game play, everything is so good. I've recently been playing through it again in anticipation for Silksong (if we ever get it) and yeah just so good.

Also, you probably have a list a mile long already, but my nomination for a game I'd like to see you play is Risk of Rain Returns. It's a remaster of the original Risk of Rain, a 2d platformer roguelike focused on item collecting, with the twist that the difficulty level increases as time goes by. Also, it has an absolutely incredible soundtrack, great art, some neat lore, lots of hidden stuff to find. It's certainly a bit different from what you've been playing recently, but I think you would enjoy it. It does involve a lot of thinking on your feet (dealing with enemies, learning their patterns, learning the items, dealing with whatever items RNGsus blessed you with that run).
This is the last thing I expected to find to watch today. I have joy

I'm really glad you like it Carl, hollow Knight is one of my favorite games of all time. It's one of those indie titles like Celeste where I find myself constantly going back to it. Unlike Celeste though, I have never done a hollow knight speedrun but I have full completed the game at least five times at this point. Absolutely waiting for silk song, that game is going to be epic. Anyway, it's fun to see your playthrough.

HK is amazing. Carl is slowly heading towards playing Dark Souls and that makes me very excited.
I really feel like restarting every time you die is a bad idea for this game especially your first playthrough. There are a TON of collectibles and story you’ll have to constantly redo and the game is built to punish you a lot until you learn the boss and move set, hardcore is a thing of course but really should not be your first experience of the game, it takes forever to get back to certain places and Aquire things. Would love you to just have fun and enjoy it so do whatever you want of course but just my thoughts as someone who has fully completed the game multiple times.

the game has an official “hardcore” mode which is only unlocked AFTER you first beat it. The game was not intended to be played with one life on a first playthrough AT ALL. Him being scared to go to the hunter only proved this

Carl inspired me to start playing this game, I use him as a timer to check my progress. Many differences. My favorites are my use of flies, which he already knows the tech for, I beat an extra boss, and didnt give up on the dark room. That being said I had to rewatch this first part because he found a merchant I didn't have and I'm like 4 zones in now like where is this guy. Game is wild

Editing a tad now that I'm partway in. You mention Rain World and how people can't describe it other than wanting to see you suffer. However, I think you might enjoy it more than the average gamer based on the concept the dev rolled with. That game is basically an experiment in creating an vast and diverse ecosystem where everything has it's own brain and it's own needs to fulfill. You don't play as a protagonist, but rather another being within this ecosystem with your own intuitions and desires.

Also, I've always done dark Stone Sanctuary. First time because I was stubborn (I think it took like an hour). Second time because I thought it'd be funny. Then after that I just kept doing it just because I could.

The backwards slash does give a little extra speed, but only when it's pretty much frame-perfect. TASes do it, but it would be slower for a human runner. (BTW, there are some amazing TASes for this game you could check out after your run. Actually, human speedruns are good too; you'd be interested to see some of the routing and skips.)
That fight withthe boss was very suspicious,Ilove Carl...vut it seems he knew the patterns already,it took me at least 4 or 5 times to learn them
