Can't believe Andrew Shouldice showed up in chat - was cool to be able to thank him personally. Glad you're already so enthusiastically enjoying the game! Can't wait for you to uncover more secrets
"I'm 16 hours into the game, surely I can watch the first 4 hours of Carl's playthrough without getting anything spoiled" I NAIVELY thought. 2.5 hours in and Carl's already taught me a new mechanic, and found two secret areas I haven't yet. Devs help, Carl too op, pls nerf Edit: 3:33:42 "I wanna find the person who never got the lantern and did all this shit in the dark just looking at the map" yep, that's me. Since I got the map right before, I thought it was saying once I do it in the dark, I'd get the lantern afterwards. Took a lot of trial and error, and I felt very dumb when I eventually realized I could've had the lantern the whole time after about 8 hours into the game.
I think my favorite part about these streams is that I finally have someone who thinks about spoilers in the same way I do, in that I want to know literally nothing at all, not even if something exists. I've spent so much time around people that act like most things they can say about the game are unimportant but that drive me nuts if I hear even a little bit. Finally, someone I can relate to this way No, my favorite part is reliving vicariously the thrill of discovery in one of my favorite games through someone who is entertaining to listen to, but the other bit is a close second.
Lol, I guess I'm literally the opposite, I don't care about getting spoiled at all, not even the ending, the secrets, etc., I often watch playthroughs or videos about a game before even playing it. When I played Tunic, I knew almost everything there was to know (but I still had an amazing experience and it's one of my favourite games)
@@theonlypc4906 I feel like with most games that doesn't make a difference, but with a "knowledge-based unlocks" game like this one, you only really played half the game. You're still allowed to enjoy it that way, of course, and maybe the process of discovering it just wouldn't have been fun for you, which I can understand. I just hope you can appreciate via others' playthroughs what that experience is like.
Carl is TOO good at finding secrets. There's a cool moment in most playthroughs where you pass through the dark room, find the lantern, and on your way back you realize "oh my gosh this was here all along I just needed the light to see it" and then you proceed... but the instinct from all those troll levels is too strong.
One hour in and i like this playthrough. Its slow and methodical. There is a lot of moments when Carl is confused or forgets something, but all main mechanics he did understand.
This game was BEAUTIFULLY made and renditioned. The music was awesome and figuring out the language was just that much better. Puzzles were master class, and the story...just EPIC
The language used for non-English in this game is very interesting to translate. I never would have figured it out on my own, it's that tricky. I'm amused at how similar the terms for unknown items are between players. "Oh hey, a tuning fork. Weird."
Thank you so much for the shoutout from your latest Mario Maker video. I didn't realize you'd visited the wonderful world of TUNIC, and now I get to watch it through fresh eyes!
I was literally screaming to the tv when Carl did not found the lantern distracted by founding the room with guards accidentally, inspecting every inch looking for secrets. And then miss the giant hero's grave in West Garden... distracted by inspecting every inch lookin for secrets 😂
This is one of my favorite games of all time. Might even snag my top spot. My wife and I played through this together with me piloting and us working together to figure the game out. She kept a notebook of everything we couldn't get to like "Eastern forest, spiders, hooks", "page on a pillar in the south east", lots of notes and remarks like "need jump? where jump?". It was an amazing experience. Figuring out the door on the mountain (trying to avoid spoil-y terms) was one of the best puzzle-solving dopamine spikes I've ever had. So mind blowing learning this games secrets and going for 100% completion. I'd also recommend checking out Supraland for a first-person metroidvania-esque puzzle game. We had a blast with that one too and also had a notebook for that game. Those are my favorite types of experiences.
I love tunic, it's one of those games where the first experience is just completely different than any subsequent playthrough. It truly is a piece of art, and so is the manual.
YESSSS Tunic let's gooooo!!! I wondered if you'd ever play it for like over a year and then heard it mentioned in one of your other souls's playthroughs by a chatter, and my hope and hype for getting to see you experience it (and finish it for me who never did) shot through the roof! Good luck and hope you enjoy(ed) it!
Hey Carl, got the game when I saw your community post about it, and I've been having a great time so far, so I'm excited to watch your playthrough too! I will say, it might be useful to keep a notebook or something on hand, something I've started doing, just to write down things you want to remember or all the things you want to make sure to investigate later. Really looking forward to see you tackle this game!
Thank you for doing this I've been trying to watch this game for quite some time with actual playthrough. I've got a disability where I can't use my hands so trying to find somebody that's playing the whole game isn't amazing find thank you very much Carl.
I'm so excited to see my favorite game popping up on this channel - one of very few games that without fail stays two steps ahead. The discovery style of gameplay is done so well and I wish we had more games doing something similar. I hope you diligently apply the scientific method to figure out this game's secrets!
I can't watch this. I thought I could! But an hour and a half in, and he's figured things out about the map that I haven't in my first 5 hours, AND found three areas I completely missed. GGs Carl
Yaaaassss! You are playing my 2022 GOTY!!! I love this game so much. It is truly special to me just like Outer Wilds is. Please try your best to avoid all spoilers you can, and uncover all the secrets this game holds!
This game's layout is very Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. The hidden spots that you can't see and the levels/floors of exploration. The only difference is that Tunic removes the ability to move perspective. Nice job, very interesting.
I spent SO MANY HOURS on this game, an absolute favorite of mine and a treat to watch you play through and hear all your thoughts in real time just like mine XD Hope you enjoy the rest! (And get sucked in as much as i did lol)
I love games of "unfolding knowledge" like this or Outer Wilds. Especially when they have vibes as good as those. There's a lot of overlap on the surface between those and a good MM troll or puzzle level, but those are a bit more like a series of locked doors. Same with the SpikeChunsoft games like 999 or AI: The Somnium Files, which have that same kind of series of revelations that play out linearly. There's nothing quite like the feeling of the systems-driven version where you sink gently down into further levels of the world. Edit: they're all a more puzzle-y than Tunic/Outer Wilds, but if you like those consider Return of the Obra Dinn, Immortality, or Chants of Sennaar. And if you liked the move-around-the-world-more stuff you should check out A Short Hike.
Interested to see what Carl thinks of this game. For the most part, I really loved it, but I can't necessarily recommend it to everyone since part of it left a bad taste in my mouth. Regardless, excited to watch this!
@@Retro_Rainer The answer to this, most of the times I see it, is one the parts of the game that involves difficult combat, since it is often an obstacle to progressing towards the more unique parts of the game. (The game does have the no-fail mode for this, but it's too binary for some people.)
@@celestialspark5697 I didn't want to say too much for fear of spoilers. However, I think you're referring to exactly the spot.
