  • Witch one is your favourite? The intention was to show the difference between two lovely birds of prey, the Harrier and the Buzzard. I found them hunting over the same wheat field. I tried to keep an eye on both of them but the bright sun made it a little bit complicated.

Lovely to see them together, thanks. I've not seen a Harrier locally, (Midlands, in UK) but we've had Buzzards nesting in sight behind our garden for the last 4 or five years, (before that, one season of Sparrow Hawks), the Buzzards have chicks now, I can see their heads over the side of the nest, beautiful to see and photograph.

Hello John, Thanks for your visit. It must be very interesting to follow the Buzzards so close year after year. Hope you will get nice photos of the chicks.

East Midlands here, only birds of prey I’ve seen are Red Kites (over a dozen every day) and a singular Buzzard

What an absolutely cracking video and some amazing photos. Absolutely spot-on. I stumbled across this video as I noticed a bird of prey near where I work yesterday. I was in two minds of what it was and watching your video and a couple of others. It was either Marsh Harrier or a hen Harrier. One of the two. I’m not a bird wizard, but certainly wasn’t a buzzard as there are lots of them around where I work and it was definitely a bird of prey of some sort. Look like a kite but had rounded tail feathers. Just looking at the colours I’m thinking and hoping I was.Right .. when I was a young boy, my dad would take me birdwatching and we would see Marsh Harriers hunting and they are just amazing. This was back in the early 80s. Anyway just want to say absolutely brilliant video once again and all the best to you. 👍😁

Thanks, John! Glad you found my little video. Nice story you are telling, especially that about your dad and how you watched the birds together. All the best!

In my country, the UK, I've seen quite a few Buzzards but never a Harrier.
Out of curiosity, were you using a mirror lens to photograph them?

I used a conventional 500mm telephoto lens with my Nikon D500. The Harrier is a real beauty, hope you will see one soon. Thanks for visiting!
