    Love it. I was watching another turning video today and said to myself “I haven’t seen a video by Olivier in a while” and then this pops up. I like the way you did the crack patch. Great work as always!

    Monsieur Olivier, je profite de la marche arrière pour regarder toutes vos vidéos. Voir le changement d'équipement, quelques petites parties de votre technique, et les différentes pièces c'est un peu comme une leçon d'histoire du tournage sur bois de Mister O.G. lui-même.
    Comme toujours, merci de partager votre don/talent.

    Plugging or “bunging is a tried and true solution which, if done properly, lasts a long time without issues. As a carpenter on the coast of Maine I know about this as much as anyone. And you didn’t do it the best way. You want your plugs and your wood to be as similar as possible. I see you used the same species (good) but you have opposite grain orientation. Your bowl (where the crack was) is side grain but your bungs were end grain. They will move (as the weather changes) in different directions, and you will see cracks and/or joint failure. I offer this knowledge as help to a promising wood turner. Nice form son.

      Sure, that’s all true, and great if you are plugging a wooden boat you don’t want to sink. But this kid is making art, not sailing vessels. I think he WANTED the contrast in the grain for the visual impact, which was a wise move. Nobody is going to being eating their morning oatmeal out of this bark-edge oak bowl. It’s a piece of art. It’ll sit on a shelf and look pretty.

    • @pigeonmanof180
      @pigeonmanof180 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pat McVicker, I agree with you in large part. I may have made a mistake thinking this artist, like me, would want to learn more about the material of his craft. Perhaps he only wants encouragement. But knowing that I have grown the most through constructive criticism moves me at times to offer the same. At least if, months or years from now, the vessel pulls away from the bung and the artist is displeased with the effect, he knows how to change to achieve a different outcome. I am sorry if I offended him (or you).

    Wow that Oak really showed how hard it really was when it resisted your drilling so defiently. And the crack fixing approach, although so seemingly obvious in retrospect {things that make you go "Duh."} is a really great idea that seemed to turn out considerably nicer than using other crack filling pastes or glues or whathaveyou. Nice job.

    Eine sehr gute Arbeit!
    Auch die Korrektur des Risses ist handwerklich sehr gut ausgeführt.
    In der Gesamtgestaltung der eigentlich sehr schönen Schale empfinde ich
    die Einsätze aber als optisch sehr störend. Sie zerstören die Harmonie des Objekts.
    Ungeachtet dessen: Gut gemacht! 👍🏻
