- The Bible or Qur'an: Which is God's Word? Debate 7th July 2012.
I would like to thank IREA for organising this event, however, the IREF video production of this debate did the following:
1. Cut out Samuel Green's slides which he presented on the night.
2. Added slides for Br. Imran who presented no slides on the night.
3. Added video to Br. Imran's presentation. See IREF video 1:39:15-1:40:00
4. Cut video from Samuel Green's rebuttal.
5. Changed the audience response to what the speakers said. Compare the audience response in the IREF video at 1:49:25-1:50:20 to what the audience actually said in this video at 1:35:13-1:36:20.
We had signed an agreement before the debate specifying that these things would not happen.
Videos need to be edited and it is valid to edit out dead space and technical problems but the IREF production has created a new video which does not represent what actually happened at the debate. I do not blame IREA for these changes as the video was edited by IREF. Anyway, I hope you find this video helpful.
Although I m a Muslim , I love Bro Samuel Green for his sincerity in sharing this clip. May Allah SWT open Ur heart to accept Islam.

Samuel Green is an honest man who sincerely believes in what he believes and he really wants to believe that his belief in Christianity as per his Church teachings and understanding is vindicated. The catholic bible is 73 books while the protestant bible is 66 books. The book of revelations says nothing can be added or taken away from the word of God and yet we have evidence that they did in fact add or take away.

The manner of debate is very important. (ادْعُ إِلِى سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ وَجَادِلْهُم بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ [النحل:125]) (فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ اللَّهِ لِنتَ لَهُمْ ۖ وَلَوْ كُنتَ فَظًّا غَلِيظَ الْقَلْبِ لَانفَضُّوا مِنْ حَوْلِكَ ۖ ). Convincing a person that his/her opinions about something are wrong is in itself difficult to hear for them. When debating, being extra gentle like Mohammed - peace be upon him - was is very important. It is not only logic that matters but also emotion. Christianity and other religions are held strongly by their followers because they are also a part of their culture and childhood. Even if the mind is convinced, the emotions towards the religion might prevent the person from embracing what is right, just like the uncle of Mohammed - peace be upon him - refused to believe in him just not to let go of his fathers' religion. In my opinion, Imran relied too much on memory and stirring emotions in the Muslim audience that I felt like he was addressing Muslims and not the Christian audience. Green was better as a debater as he used a tone addressing the Muslims in the audience. It is very bad that Imran has all the knowledge needed to address every misconception and point raised by Green but his way of presenting worked against him and he focused on making fresh points most of the time instead of addressing the points raised by the other speaker. If a Christian watches this debate, I have no doubt that he will go with what Green said solely due to the manner he conducted himself. Muslims who attend these debates should refrain from shouting. This is sending a bad image and does not serve at all to refute any point made. I wish Imran and Dr Naik could be like Ahmed Deedat - may Allah have mercy on his soul - not only in knowledge but in mannerism. Ahmed Deedat was gentle and calm when responding and presenting. Green had a plan for the debate and power point slides. Why did Imran only come with papers?! Islam needs people who are logical, with ideas well formulated and a plan to showcase what they have to say in a calm manner. Al Imam Malik - may Allah have mercy on him - believed that being loud was the opposite of providing knowledge.

No, the book of Ezekiel also has sacrifices for sin 40:39, 42:13, 44:29, 45:17, 25. Ezekiel 18 is about personal repentance but it in no way denies a sacrifice for sin. The concept of a sacrifice for sin is in the Torah, Prophets, Psalms and Gospel.

Sam completely lost the plot, at the end he even mentions that dua a qunut is a part of the quran and br imran corrected him saying its not. Any muslim would know this its not a part. it might be at the beginning of the quran like many duas.....like a foreward to the book.

This is a good point to consider but the preservation of the Bible and Qur'an are quite different. The Text of the Qur'an was standardized early but with the Bible the finalizing of the canon was about which books formed the canon not the standardizing of the text.

Bible never claim to be God's Word. Bible itself says NOT God's words, its contain man's word:
1 Corinthians 7:12 But to the rest speak *I, not the Lord*:...
1 Corinthians 7:25 Now concerning virgins *I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment*, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.
1 Corinthians 7:40 But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and *I think* also that I have the Spirit of God.
2 Corinthians 11:17 That which I speak, *I speak it not after the Lord, but as it were foolishly*, in this confidence of boasting.
Qur'an is God's words:
Quran Sahih International translation 2:23-24. And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down [i.e., the Qur'an] upon Our Servant [i.e., Prophet Muhammad SAW], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses [i.e., supporters] other than Allah, if you should be truthful. But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.
God/Allah challenges all His creations to produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses [i.e., supporters] other than Allah, if you should be truthful. The challenge opens since 1400 years ago till the day of judgement. But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.
May Allah always guide all of us.

You do not understand the quotes from 1 Corinthians. Paul is an apostle and so speaks as a prophet. He is still giving the word of God because the matter is a matter of freedom for us to choose. This word of God reflect our freedom to choose in the matter. Not all of God's word is a command. You do not understand the character of God's word.

Qur'an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad PBUH in arabic. You will never find hebrew language in the Qur'an. So its inline with Qur'an 14:4.

Jesus (pbuh) never in his lifetime changed a single commandment from the law of Moses (pbuh). He departed leaving his followers with the following words: Matthew 5:17-19

This is more about playing chess rather than trying to have an honest discussion to see whose side has merit in their arguments. I don't know where you got this whole Peter saying that Jesus wasn't crucified because Peter himself says directly Jesus was crucified and risen.
Acts 2:36 "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."
Acts 4:10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.
Please note Jesus himself prophesied that he would be crucified specially in Matthew.
Matthew 20:18 “See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death 19 and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.”
So I can choose to believe the words of Jesus and his personal disciple Peter or I can believe Muhammad who lived 600 years later 700 miles away who didn't know Jesus was not there at the crucifixion or read any of my Bible. (The Quran does not quote or interact with any Biblical text) I choose to believe Jesus and Peter.

It is not proof at all. As I point out in the debate Joshua was the prophet with Moses and it is recorded that he was involved in the writing of the Torah too.

Samuel Green Please show me 10000 variants of the Quran. I'm not talking about translations because that is human work, but the original arabic text. Yes, there may be different dialects, because the Quran was originally revealed in 7 different dialects according to the hadith. But you can't find a Quran that has missing verses, or two different verses, like the case with the bibles.
As for the question about the destruction of the copies of the Quran, Br Imran has already answered that. You can watch his video 'Why Usman burnt copies of the quran'
Samuel Green If Joshua was the one who wrote that verse, it doesn't make it a part of the original Torah (according to the Quran). The original Torah according to the Quran is what God had revealed AT THE TIME of Moses to Moses himself. That is what muslims believe in. If a third person comes a 100 years later and adds a verse about how 'Moses died when he was 120 years old', then how can you expect us to believe in that?
And no, the manuscripts are not well preserved. The manuscripts themselves were different. This is what the preface of the RSV bible says "the King James Version has serious defects. By the middle of the nineteenth century, the development of biblical studies and the discovery of many biblical manuscripts more ancient than those on which the King James Version was based made it apparent that these defects were so many as to call for revision."
