- 1ft Snow Clearing! Plowing 16k sq ft concrete driveway with 8ft hydraulic articulating blade with my 2016 Bobcat Toolcat 5600. Plow is skid steer quick attach with a spring tripping blade "TMG Industrial SP-240", any deeper and you'd want a snow blower. I have a ~1200 ft x 10ft straight then a circle driveway and the garage approach pad to clear. I take footage inside the cab and outside with my DJI Mavic Air 2 drone. Cab has AC/Heat/Radio and 2 seats. This thing is awesome and I love it! I used my gopro hero8 and dji mavic air 2 drone for footage.

I am going to have to look into the Toolcat. I have a Kubota that isn't inclosed, and I have lost interest in putting a plow on my new truck. The wife and I both want the inclosed RTV, but I think the Toolcat will fit our needs better. Thanks for showing what it will do.

Got stuck with mine that morning trying to move a big pile i just pushed. I enveloped the machine and I struggled to get the door open. I use the bucket and it doesn't tip back past center like a loader. Couldn't push myself out. My first real snow with it and I was impressed.

Agree. I think their cost keep popularity down. I do know of a few colleges that use them and then sometime city municipalities too. Great for my needs as well.

I’m sold on the visibility and maneuverability alone. I was in the market for a decent side by side and I remembered that bobcat used to make one with a front PTO but they really evolved since then I see. Thanks for letting us vicariously play with your toys! I need VR goggles.
Ah yes the Brutus. Those are Polaris based utv's with upgrades but the Toolcat is a completely different animal. More like a skid steer turned into mini dump truck. Way heavier built than the utv's with pto.

I retired from snow & ice in 2009. Tried to buy a toolcat numerous times at minci auctions but back then a rusted out piece of junk was around $12K. Would not have believed it would clear a foot of snow without this video. Our scope was always a 1 to 2" trigger. Being in the excavation and paving business my family would try to talk me out of one because they could only see use in the snow for us. I wanted it just for a toy but seen it useful in snow and ice. LOL

I have a new tool cat and I purchased a Kage snow plow with the detachable box and I plowed a 2 foot storm Plow felt heavy on the front so I put 15 bags 50 pounders of salt in the box that helped I also put studs in the tire’s because we get a lot of ice , this set up was good on small driveways and out by the road but I need a blade I was thinking to put the SnowWolf ultra any thoughts would be appreciated thanks

Very satisfying video. I love plowing and snowblowing. I watched one of your other videos and I agree that the toolcat is what fits your needs best. I currently have a S550 with a snowblower that works well but would like to try out a toolcat for a month or so to see how I like it. The idea of taking my daughter with me is what had me wanting a toolcat. Keep up the videos!

@@NaterTater then you can just pilot the drone from the passenger seat lol. I let my daughter drive my tractor in the summer, she’s still a little scared of it but that’s understandable seeing as she’s 5. She much rather prefers riding in my lap than steering lol

I recommend a SnowPower 12 ft plow if you can afford one. But the best plow you’ll ever use period. They will match it to the tool cat when you take it to hook it up.

If you ever have that much snow again I found it helpful to just push forward straight down the middle with the blade straight, you won't get pushed around then come back with it angled to push off to either side. You can choose how much you want to bite off and you get a little bit more traction on the cleared portion.
Thanks John. I've considered that method and tried it once, does the snow ever flow over the top of the blade that way? I know it would in the past before I added the rubber deflector. Normally if i run the full straightaway i only get pushed around at the start, for the video i stop several times to reposition the drone. That causes me to struggle a little more.
Hey! Just wanted to say thank you and ask a quick question! Just found a used 2016 in great condition and your ‘used buying advice’ was absolutely awesome to find before exploring the used market. Certain features definitely became ‘must haves’ after seeing that! And like you, going to be using mine for maintenance and projects on my property.
Also scored on a new TMG Snow Blade from RB auction last week! Quick question, did you find the snow flap to make a big difference for winter plowing? Excited to get mine all setup and get the snow moving up here in the great white north!

Sorry for the super late response. But yes the snow deflector on the top is really nice to have esp for deeper snow (6+ in). Keep it from spilling over the top.

Great machines with an experience operator or someone with basic common sense. My buddy bought one last fall his 22 year old son always has to operate whatever is new for the season. He was flying down a concrete sidewalk with a GP bucket on and hit a raised section of concrete stopped the machine dead in its tracks. Folded the front lift arms sideways destroyed the GP bucket, and blew out every piece of glass in the machine. Took a $75,000 machine a destroyed it in one storm dealer bought it back from them for $40,000 with 6 hours on it.

Have you seen those Muskox snowblowers? Expensive, around 13K but really nice. That plow setup works really well.

I've considered it, even have a empty 55 gal barrel to add ballast to but hasn't been worth the hassle yet. It has 4 wheel steering so some the the "fishing tailing" you see is just the rear steering. This setup weighs over 6k lbs.
Just a suggestion. At end of driveway stack the snow with traffic. Not towards traffic. When pulling out of drive way if traffic comes at you on the left first pile snow to the right. Saves on cutting banks back as the seasons goes on.
I have a hill to the right and a fall off to the left so thats why I stack to the left. Also visibility is good to the left and bad to the right in my case. But good suggestions in general.
I avoid stacking snow at the end of any driveways where they meet the main road. The municipalities appreciate it and it's illegal in some areas, it also helps prevent drifting especially in more open areas. Also as someone else also said you don't have to look around snowbanks when pulling out onto the main road. I push in from the street down the driveway on both sides and wing it off. This is over 40 some years plowing snow talking here.

Really appreciate your toolcat videos. Hope you have more planned. Do you put the boom in float mode when plowing? Do you ever crab steer using the 4 wheel steering to get the plow father out over the pavement to push the berm farther out? Thanks!
hey Greg, I will do more toolcat videos sometime. I dont use float typically for plow, its not advised to use float going forward. i have used crab steer for mowing but not plowing. it would work though.

I love the versatility with the attachments etc but can u run tracks on it? And how capable is it offroad? I'm in labrador and we get dumped on with snow lol
You can put mattracks on it. Then its very capable off road. Otherwise some people put ag/mud tires on them to help with off road traction.

Its a 94" blade
Do you find it gets better traction in front only steer?
The older models had a rear diff lock that only worked in front steer (to avoid locking a steered axle). So on those yes you get better tractiom in front steer. Mine has traction control though. Is cab heat and ac? What's the deepest snow you can plow? Chains required? Night? No markers, how?
Sure is, heat and AC. 1ft is about the max because it overflows the plow. I just use R4 tires, no chains. Night-time is fine with all the work lights on top of windshield (stock). I use a few edge markers but since its my driveway i know it really well and can get away with memory a lot of the time.
Don't know if you can answer this question. You said you live in Michigan so I'm not sure if this is my county only or if it's the whole state. In my county we can not run a RTV on the road. We will get a ticket if we do. Is this in the Tractor line or still like RTV?
It can vary by county/local ordinance but in general slow moving farm vehicles can be driven on the road for farm use with a orange triangle. This would fall in that category.

Does that weight of your mower cause any issues ?
No. 1500lbs is the rated lift capacity of the machine. It can lift about 3k lbs before picking up the rear tires.
This comes from having just a few years in plowing snow. If you put some wait in the bed you will have a little more control. The amount of wait you will have to do test run.
Agreed, more weight does help. However I never go thru thr hassle of adding/removing weight from the bed since the Toolcat with me and the plow weigh close to 6500lbs already. Its a beast.

Hey what's that cost and can I get a power broom instead of a plow?
I bought my 2016 with 2k hrs in 2019 for $32.5k but the market has gone up significantly since covid. New they are $70-80k. You can use any skid steer attachment.
Can you put ballast in the tires? It looks like it doesn't have the weight. I think I would like a snow blower better .
This setup is around 6500lbs. People put weight in the bed if they want it, it is not needed in my use case.
Put some weight in the rear too! Less squirm more traction!

I dont have much of an opinion on it, i've never used a blower on a SS or TC. $12k is pricey but if you have a (paid) use for it perhaps its worth it over the bobcat SB-240.

@@cengle4394 not much, might catch a couple bands but in general too far east for it. 1ft snowfalls are pretty rare. Normally less than half that in a storm.

I am not a snow plow expert like you and have what is probably a newbie question. In several places it looks like the snow on the side is getting as deep as the plow. If you got another big snowfall can the plow still push the snow to the side or do you need to the. Work on pushing the snow back more so you have room for new snow?
Great question. In general you're right and that's a limitation of plowing vs blowing snow. In practice I have a 10ft wide driveway and a 8ft plow that when angled is around 7ft plowing so I clear about 2/3 or more to one side when plowing and the rest to the other side of the driveway. This means I can angle the other way and "fit" more snow before it encroaches on the concrete. You can also plow too wide at the beginning of the season and let it slowly grow narrower during winter. Luckily here where I live we dont get that much snow (dare I say "ever"). But if I did I'd either be stuck with a narrower drive or I'd have to push back the banks (time consuming).

A blower is better for deep snow. We typically get less than 6in and a plow is def faster for that. Snow blowing is slow. Even at a foot i think i am faster with a plow. The straight is very quick with a plow but i do get lots of spillover on the wide areas so a blower would be quicker there. Overall it depends but typically you never see commerical snow companies use blowers for a reason, plows are cheaper and faster.
You get some weight in the back of that thing and you will see a great difference in preference.
I have a 55 gal drum I could load up with ballast but i've yet to reallly need the extra weight. A hassle I can avoid for now.
I like the machine but when the altenertator bracket broke the dealer had to take the cob off to get to it cost 4k to fix

I can never understand why anyone would rather plow than snow blow. I hate doing work twice. Plowing snow and have to back over to get what snow ran off the side. But that's me.
Down here in southern michigan we very rarely get anywhere close to a foot. Most snows are 2-4in so a plow is much faster than a blower for that. I can plow at near full speed and never have to go over it twice. 1ft is certainly less efficient to plow.
Just a friendly professional tip an do yourself a favor and save some time, after you’ve shoveled away from the building use your plow and back drag the snow away so you aren’t pushing right back to where you’ve shoveled! Not trying to be a critic just wanna save some back pain! Other beautiful job plowing otherwise an love the machine!
Thank Brian. Agree! Normally I can make the turn and keep the snow from pushing back up against the building but i dont plow 1ft very often. It had too much spillover so messed up my plan this time around.
Toolcats cost of ownership will jump way up after 1000 hours. I would suggest trading it in about then.
