i'm certain that when a bass comes right up to a lure it can see the fluorocarbon line, and then there are big, old and wise bass that hit giant swimbaits where the 20, 25, and even 30 lb fluorocarbon line is absolutely visible no matter how expensive the fluorocarbon tied on is. Then you have people fishing with live bait that can catch big bass regardless of their line size, probably even braid, my point is that what's going on in the bass' mind doesn't necessarily match with what we believe is happening, and more than likely we are the one's being fished for by people trying to get make money. There's a small, EXTREMELY pressured, lake with big bass here in Los Angeles i grew up fishing that it's almost impossible to catch anything in but there was a guy who would always pull in big bass using roboworms and 4lb test trilene mono.
That's exactly what I've been doing now. I have every reel spooled with braid with a leader tied on for what ever the situation calls for. it's so much easier. So much faster. And I now spend the money on braid. And use much less of my floro and mono. It makes my spools last me FOREVER. I think I only have 2 spinning reels with strait 6lb floro and 8lb floro. Both medium light rods which are specifically going to be used for very finesse work. Great video. Always have great evidence and proof of the information you're sharing. So appreciated. Keep that up.
Very interesting to see the visibility differences in the shade.. Looks like I'm off to buy a few more reels to downsize line on for quick swap outs on low light days.
Thanks Steve, nice observation and test. One thing is visibility, on the other hand most anglers mentioned the use of lighter line to improve the action of the lure, will be interesting to see if downgrading from, for example, braid main line and going from 8lb to 6lb, is to much of difference in lure's performance.
I'm still not convinced that a bass will spook from the line itself or line color. I would think they would just focus on the bait. Not to mention they don't have problems seeing a hook. Just my opinion👍
That is a great question. I actually have a line visibility video that I am working on right now that will hopefully help answer that question. It should be out very soon.
In offshore fishing the color and thickness Doesn't matter much. You will tie atleast 3-4 ft of mono/fluro leader. Fish in deep water see only silhouette.
Do you really believe a fish can comprehend that the line is attached to an angler? If the hooks dangling from the lures don’t turn them away I would think they could care less about seeing the line. Any thoughts?
That is a great question. I don't think they associate it with an angler as much as something not quite natural in their environment if that makes sense. And the biggest difference I have noticed in the really clear water I often fish is when the bite is really, really tough. If they are feeding, there are days I think I could be throwing chain link on a lure and they would hit it. But on the opposite end of that, I have friends that throw straight braid in clear water and they are quite confident without a leader. So I suppose for me, it really boils down to a confidence thing.
This is why I love your channel. You use your resources that we don't have to teach us. Thanks Steve!
You're welcome! I enjoy it so.much and keep learning stuff.
Wisdom and humility = a winning lifestyle.
Thank you! Have a great day.
I love braid as well and been using here in MN with all this clear water..

Thank you! That is definitely what I have found. Very fast to switch things up.
Very informative. I use braid and leader setups on most of my rigs. I'm also a fan of the Red Phillips Knot.
I do love that knot. Thanks for watching!

I know. I thought the same thing. I figured there would be a difference, but I was surprised how much.

It would be. Thank you for suggesting that! I will have to dive into that one!
Very interesting, Steve. Take care and be safe
Thank you. You have a wonderful day as well. Hope it cools off soon. Lol.
@@SteveRogersOutdoors me too. Lol

Love that strike king shirt. Is it available for the public?
Yes! It is on their website - strikeking.com
At least it used to be
Very interesting. Thanks.
Thank you for watching!
Very interesting but my question is, which is a better color mono , clear or moss green ? or does it matter.
That is a great question. I actually have a line visibility video that I am working on right now that will hopefully help answer that question. It should be out very soon.
@@SteveRogersOutdoors Thanks man , keep up the good work.
Lo-vis green? Would it be a good option in mono?
Yes, especially if you have a little color in the waters you fish. Great question.

Thanks for adding this!
@SteveRogersOutdoors thank you for your content. I hope my phrasing in the reply wasn't too rude.
