I definitely love the spoiler free element as I often watch reading vlogs for books that I'm thinking about reading and want to see whether I should pick it up or not! Maybe a spoiler section at the end would be good because then people who have read it could hear your thoughts without spoiling it for people that haven't yet?! VERY excited to pick this up now!!!!

It's hard to decide how the review/reading vlog style will be beforehand because I don't know how it will go... it's at the end that it's obvious haha
The TOG reading vlog could never have been spoiler free for example!

i personally think that reading vlogs would be a lot more fun with spoilers included :) people, including myself, usually go to reading vlogs because we want a more in depth view of what the person felt reading the book and their thoughts throughout, and their reaction to certain things, but if i just wanted to know what the book was about i could go to goodreads or watch a wrap up or tbr but reading vlogs allow you to really watch someone go through the parts of a book that you're excited for them to react to
you could put a lil emoji on the screen whenever you talk about spoilers and just remove it when you're done! so everyone who doesn't want the spoilers can mute it or skip ahead until the spoiler part is over. i think that would be a good solution. most of the time i watch videos about books i am not planning to read so i am really interested in what happened when the reader loses their shit and then it's frustrating when they don't say why!
I think I'll have a spoiler section at the end next time if I need it! I had no idea what the style of this vlog would be since the only one I had done before was TOG and this one had so many quotes haha

the footnotes were definitely one of my favorite parts of the book, it had me laughing which was weird for me in a fantasy 🙈 i’m so so so glad you liked it!! jay kristoff is in my top three favorite writers, so i’m definitely waiting super impatiently for darkdawn.

Honestly wasn't sure I would like him after Illuminea (and the second in that series!) which were okay but the writing style wasn't great. Now I'm sold!

First of all your makeup looked freaking amazing in the part where you said there was a snowstorm outside, just beautiful! I'm glad you liked the book, I was waiting to hear what you said about it before I even considered picking it up. I can take your recommendations with a lot more confidence than anyone else because we have similar reading styles.

I read Nevernight last year and loved it. I had no idea it was super hyped I honestly just saw the cover and read the description. I loved the footnotes, funny and snarky; my kinda narrator.
I was so nervous when I saw you did an entire reading vlog of Nevernight, as the author's writting style is so unique that people either love it or hate it.
Nevernight is one of my all time favorite book as I've never seen anything like that before, got a huge bookhangover after that. So glad you love the book. :)

Yay so glad you loved this too! I tried reading this last year but got scared off by the footnotes. Curiosity got the better of me though so I picked it up again a few weeks ago and boy am I glad I did! I love the sarcasm and that scene on page 130(ish?) you were referring to had me shooketh haha.

Nevernight is something I've always been on the fence about buying just because there's so much hype around it but this vlog has made me bite the bullet and buy it. Looking forward to reading it. I think a spoiler section at the end would be cool. Looking forward to your next vlog.

Spoiler free please! I like what you think without hearing about spoilers and that is why I like your wrap ups as well. That way I get to decide what books you read that I can add to my TBR! I like these types of videos :) I have not read any of his books so I may want to pick this up. I currently only have 2 library books which is rare I usually have 5 plus. And yes to crooked kingdom!!!

The point about substance is golden! I have this feeling not only with YA book, or popular books, but in general, in the sense that it appears that people often enjoy or seek worldbuilding & characters more than substance and good prose.

The only way I could get through the first 100-150 pages was by skipping the footnotes! Some are so long and unnecessary! :( loving the book now I’m further in through

yassss! Nevernight is one of my absolute faves. Perhaps only rivaled by the Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden.

So I think for some people who can’t get passed the footnotes or the long sentences, that might be a good medium to use cause it’s just so good lol
Haha, I've been living in Korea for the past 5 years teaching English until recently and always found those tabs to be hilarious. There are so many inappropriate Konglish things I love, especially on clothes. 😂

Ooh i want those post-it notes, they're adorable. I listened to a bit of the audiobook for Nevernight but then I got so confused by the repetition thing and I just really need to pick up the physical version at some point.
I’ve read this... so spoilers are welcomed!! I loved it too... I listened to it on audiobook...so the foot notes didn’t bother me... they were incorporated into the book and weren’t annoying!!

most of my fave reviewers LOVE this book but I’ve been so on the fence with it. I am still a newbie to fantasy especially adult, but I really do want to read Nevernight.

I am so glad you liked it! I had the same concerns about the hype but it was so good! i actually listened to the audiobooks for both nevernight so i didn't actually realise there were footnotes at first (the narrator just read them in a slightly different tone but more or less didn't indicate that they were foot notes. and they flowed so well that didn't pick up on it). i've physically read another fantasy book with footnotes and it took a while to get used to the process of reading them but after that I actually found it quite easy. it helped that the foot notes were comments on the action in the book by a snarky demon so they were all hilarious haha it is an interesting thought tho, people have strong opinions about it too :p
Can you do a video reading and reacting to 1 Star reviews of your favorite books or 5 star of your least favorite? Those videos are so fun to watch.

I LOVED the first chapter of Nevernight! Like I actually feel like it’s the best first chapter of any book I’ve ever read!! I love how jay has compared the act of your first time having sex with the first time murdering someone. The contrasts are so interesting and gruesome and I just loved the idea of it. Obviously I don’t think they are the same but that’s what I love about reading, the things you can imagine without them actually being real!!!!
I thought the first chapter was very cleverly done!
Yaaay I love your reading vlogs! I prefer a spoiler free style because I'm super slow to read books so I most likely haven't read whatever you'll be reading for these and will probably want to read them in the future. Also, it's so nice to see you actually enjoying a book for once haha not that I mind the salty reviews because they're amazing but being happy is fun every once in a while too lol
To be fair I've loved a lot of books so far this year! Six 5 stars last month, that's unheard of :P
I definitely plan on keeping them spoiler free if I can (couldn't do that with TOG haha) and include a spoiler section at the end if there's a lot I need to talk about!

Wait till you read the ending of GodsGrave! His writing is exquisite!
I have got the audiobook for this and it is excellent. I was not even aware that those were footnotes but as soon as you mentioned it I knew what you were talking about. No chance to skip them in the audiobook but as you said, they are very interesting and add to the world building.
The second novel is more of the same with a different setting and a nice set up for the finale. The intimate scenes and the gore are levelled up though so prepare yourself. I have no prob lem reading them but listening them in audio book normally makes me emberrassed but this reader Mr. Holter Graham's narration was so good that I didn't feel emberrassed at all. The novel are a perfect match.
Footnotes are easier to deal with in the ebook format because you can just tap on the number of you want to read them or skip over them if you don't. I personally enjoyed the footnotes when I read Nevernight on Kindle.

First 100 pages were torture for me. But after that it was so good. I skipped most of the footnotes 😂 Overall i loved it and i'm so glad you did too. 😍😂

As for the Vlog: I'm reading this on my ebook reader. The footnotes are BETTER managed. I think the author's writing style is suited to people looking at our reality & find the established order has outlived it's usefulness.

In my opinion, the sex scenes were designed to be cringy to a certain degree, and they make perfectly sense if you consider the arc of the two characters involved as well as the sequel.

I like that it's spoiler free because I really want to read the book now! But I can't see discussing what actually happens would be fun so maybe at the end of the video you can do it so the people that don't want the spoilers can leave? And in the comments they can write ***SPOILER**** and then write the actual spoiler in a reply to that comment so people can't see it when scrolling? Too much? Lol

How do you find time to read physical bools with your job? Is it a 9-5 job and you read during commute? I find it hard to pick up a book and read more than 2 chapters after work because I gwt home late and incredibly tired =))
I like spoilers more, but I only watch them if I don't want to read the book or if I have read it. I mostly like to watch spoiler rant reviews haha

This may sound like a stupid question but I've been told there is no such thing as a stupid question. When I read Educated, it had footnotes at the bottom of some of the pages. I found that I read them after I had finished the page I was reading instead of reading it after the * on the page. It still made sense either way to me. For Nevernight (when I do decide to read it), should I read it after the * or after I'm done the whole page.
Ohhh I tried to listen to this on audiobook once and was totally lost so I gave up after 15 mins and wasn't that keen to try again. But now I've seen this I think maybe it was the footnotes that were confusing things? I will have to try it again in physcial form :)
Honestly the beginning is painful! I could only get through 20 pages the first night! It gets MUCH better soon after!
