We live in the digital era and everyone is trying to make the most of their time. Also studies have shown that people increasingly can concentrate on one task for shorter periods. The importance here is to read more, the format is irrelevant. I rediscovered my love for books via audiobooks, on my way to my college or while doing something less mentally demanding.

Your videos genuinely make my days a little bit better
I used to believe you were only "well-read" if you've explored the classics-Dickens, Steinbeck, Melville, Bronte, or what have you-and like you, I actually felt guilty when I didn't enjoy them or made no attempt to read them. I now like to believe that "well-read" simply implies that the person has read many works, a broad range of them, and of course has the ability to recall what they've read (otherwise are you really absorbing it all?). I was bored out of my mind with The Grapes of Wrath, I only enjoyed 20% of Moby Dick, I've never read any Faulkner or Dickens. I eventually learned that, like with music, people just have different tastes, and all those books that I read in school, they weren't meant to be enjoyed per say, they were meant to teach lessons (though I enjoyed many, like 1984, Candide, The Catcher In The Rye, and others). I try my best to read every genre, fiction and non-fiction, graphic novels, even some poetry, but I never force myself to like anything anymore for sake of becoming "well-read," especially including the classics.
It's impressive how one challenge can change our stats...
I'm reading the Wheel of Time series (that's 14 high fantasy books, averaging 825 pages) so I expect my stats to be drastically different this year. Cuz I still have lots of other Fantasy books in my TBR I intend to read, so that's probably going to be 75% of my read genre. It's gonna lower my book count but probably significantly boost my pages/books and pages read stats!
I guess we'll see next December ^^

This was the first year I actually took down my reading stats. I started using good read mid 2018 so I’ll have more collective data next year but fantasy was 43% horror 24% thriller/mystery 20% and single digits for contemporary romance historical fiction and sci-fi. My big goal for 2020 is more sci-fi and to read my oldest TBR books
I really enjoy these type of videos but any videos by Emily are great 😁 Also, I don’t know how you read so many books! I am hoping to read more books this year and I’d love to see more recommendation videos

i wish that i could listen to audio books or read on an e reader, i feel like i’d read more books that way, but i’m such a tactile person that i physically can’t. and i love highlighting things as i read and i can’t do that with audiobooks.

When it comes to genres and ya vs adult it really comes down to how well it's written. I'm usually not a fan of scifi or ya but I loved Starsight by Brandon Sanderson because it was well crafted. I'm always on the look out for authors who can make even genres I'm not usually drawn to interesting and I'm hoping to find a few gems this year. Looking over my stats I have read a lot of big books, but I really love fantasy and a lot of fantasies are gigantic whether they deserve the amount of pages or not. I'm making it my goal this year to try and find really great short fantasies and I have gotten one of my local librarians on board to aid in the search. I always look forward to books on the holds shelf for me that I didn't order because it's always a fun surprise. Then again the librarian has known more for over 20 years so she's got a pretty good idea of what I'll enjoy.
The wait for new audiobooks at my library is way longer than for physical. But it’s a toss up on what’s longer between ebook and audio tho.
I am loving graphic novels I didn't use to read a lot and I forgot how much I loved them. I am slowly expanding genres which is great and its exposing me to more and more different books :) I also notice I am way more okay with DNF books I don't like and not giving high reviews

I love stats, all the stats. I still need to make up my stats but I do notice that I am reading less YA lately and getting more critical off what I read. My overal rating dropped a lot.

If there’s any easy way to track it, you can put the books you read physical/audio into which one you consumed more of. Say you read 10/22 chapters physical and 12/22 on audio book; mark that as an audiobook. It could give you clearer figures if that’s important to you

Question: how do you decide what genre to place the book into? Is pride and Prejudice, romance or a classic? I've never been able to check percentages of the genres I read cause I usually put them in multiple categories 😂
