If you think it is expensive, consider buying a certified off lease vehicle with the 7 year warranty. During the height of the pandemic, these $65K cars were selling off-lease for $35 K with 25K miles. Now they are a bit more as demand has picked up and new car inventories have dried up but still Jags are not mainstream and most people think they are rebadged Velars. Still at that price, the F Pace is an incredible value and a daily driver which is a blast to drive or you can lease an SVR and everyday you will smile at how lucky you are to have such a stallion in the driveway.
These cars have so so so so much character and they are such eye candy. They personify the class and panache of the brand with serious PACE, GRACE and SPACE for a compact-mid-size SUV. As for reliability, the 10 year old powerplant is tried and tested and rock solid. If you think the Jag is not about the best value for a car enthusiast who likes to drive fast, try driving a Lexus SUV after this and only then will you then realize that the Mercedes and Lexus SUVs are for people who hate to drive or want to drive 30 mph every where they go on a couch with wheels. The Jag is really for a different kind of person who enjoys blasting down back roads on the way to the grocery store or school or work.
The F-Pace is a like a race horse - it wants to be ridden hard and it is gorgeous - much better looking than the competition and not nearly as common place. In that sense, the Jag is value for those who know what it means to a gentleman or holiday racer but it is not for some brain dead soccer mom or dad who would be perfectly happy driving a minivan or bulky truck based SUV at 35 MPH down a canyon road every day and thinks a 0 to 60 time of 11 seconds is fast enough.
The F-Pace is like a Dodge Challenger V-8 in the way it drives, it is big, heavy, but powerful and comfortable and controlled ...but with the visual class of a Mercedes. It is muscle car for those who need an SUV with a leaper on the boot and enjoy the windy back road driving style so common in UK on secondary country roads. This a car that is made for those who eschew the interstate for jaunts down canyons and over mountains. It is very British in that regard but it will also blast down a highway at triple digits all day long if you can get away with that kind of speed outside of Germany.
Once you own this car, you find yourself falling in love with it as it is gorgeous and so unique and so much fun to drive. To say this car has character is the height of British understatement, like calling Seattle Slew or Affirmed a pony.

What about the SVR? When you were talking about the engines you left out the supercharged V8. You NEED to drive it.

This is a brilliant SUV, and when people start saying it’s too expensive it means only one thing, that they can’t afford it easily (and they really want it).

I literarily picked up my SVR yesterday. Wish you had gotten to review that version. I drove the Macan, glc, x3, and alfa… I liked the jag more. It has more personality, it was plenty fun, it is a good size tweener vehicle, the interior is nice, and the seats comfortable. I couldn’t believe it because I thought I would never in my entire life own a jag…. But somehow it is in my driveway. Not to mention in LA I throw a rock and hit 4 amg, 6 macans, 3 bmw m cars.

It's a good looking SUV/Crossover, I must admit. F-Pace is the most popular Jaguar to date. Followed by the F-Type.

Just to highlight something, i pride myself on not being brand loyal, i've owned honda, dodge, kia, vw, audi, bmw, and jag. I agree that these priced at 82k is high, especially when svr is within very short range... I'm a wagon fan, i love them; but show me a performance one that is priced reasonably well? RS6, i WANT but not at 130k before dealer markup. E63, sure, let me find one for less than 150k. It is weird to say it but the Jag is actually fairly good value. I really liked the Macan it was like a german scalpel but playing the option game with Porsche can be eye watering and good amount less practical. Only the alfa pulled at my heart strings but that interior is just no bueno.

I took the plunge on an F-Type. Now I own my second one. Jag is vastly superior to mass produced junk. Both have been absolutely sensational.

Please review the I-PACE also. Personally I think it’s a criminally underrated EV. Throttle house guys said it was one of the best drivers EVs, and the interior is stunning. Range etc is still competitive, not far off the newer stuff that’s coming out now.

I think this is my favorite crossover on the market now. Interior and exterior are just about perfect. Also, just built a macan S similarly configured and it was in the high 70s. I would much rather have this fpace for that money. One thing you didn’t mention Is steering feel : I think jlr does a better job of that than any of the Germans do with a pleasing heft and feel.

Agree 100% with you. The decades of F1 racing show up in Jaguar handling in all their sedans, SUVs and coupes. When they took the I6 option away from the refreshed XF it broke my heart. I have a 2011 XJ and they make nothing for me to replace it with. Fpace SVR is awesome but I prefer sedans. Oh well, I just keep driving the XJ....

Completely agree with you on the price point of this vehicle. I was actually thinking that this should be priced at about 70-75K fully optioned. 82K is too much for this unfortunately. I think Jaguar nailed just about everything on this SUV except for the price point. Looking forward to the Macan review.

Actually I’ve just decided to buy my dad one of these, he’s always wanted an X5 and that was on my shopping list
But got him to try one of these and he’s totally smitten
It’s the combination of a more classy feel and the great size, but it’s the superb noise insulation and much more compliant ride
Also as they live on the lovely Cumbrian Coast and often drive up to Scotland , it’s just so much more fun
Obviously I’ve ordered him the D300 as it’s perfect for UK with range and torque etc
Keep up the great work and keep getting stronger , one day at a time 🙏🏻
    p.s.
I’ve specked his the same as your test model, but like you say with the chrome , not the shiny black stuff and no rear gangsta / pimp rear tints , so passé/ yesterday 🚙👍🏻🤣

Resale is Jag’s Achilles heel. I agree with all points made about this car, but ultimately I’d lose less money buying a GLE, X5, or Q5. Personally, at this price point, I’d get an Audi A6 allroad.

100% Agree . . . Which makes the Lexus hard to say no to. That said, true story: A friend of mine who is not a car guy but a family guy moved from NYC to Texas (who didn't). I tell him to get the Lexus RX. Really didn't give him a choice because I don't want to hear him crank and moan if something goes wrong. He tried to buy a used one. Tried hard. EVERYTHING was well over the cost of a new one. And most of them were the lease specials with very little equipment. Ended up calling Coleman and getting him a deal on a CX-9.

    • @clickynote
