Your video is still helping TT MK2 owners like me. Just fixed my broken up-shift switch! I would have purchased a new one if it wasn’t for you showing how you can just remove the little white pieces that broke. Thanks!
This was on point, exactly the problem I had with my 2010 TTS. Mine is a USA model and I had to use a Torx 30 for the first big bolts. But everything else was exactly as he said. The Audi dealer wanted around $1,000 to replace the two paddles. I fixed the issue in about 20-30 minutes with this video. Thank you!
Well done mate - honestly one of the better instructional vids on YT for anything because it's just so honest. I had this issue on my 2009 A4 quatro on the same flappy paddle too.
Eventho this video is 5 yrs old but you're a legend..it solved my stuck paddle shifters..the workshop wanted lots of money to replace the assembly..you just saved me a ton of money.
My shifter paddles stuck exactly like this. I removed the paddle, and suddenly two plastic clips fell out. I did a good shake to verify if there is more, and then only silence. And boom, now it clicks! :D thank you for this very useful video!
Thanks Dr, Audi S3 up-shift paddle worked 50% of the time, followed your instruction, it had no broken parts so sprayed it with Electronic Contact Spray and voila, works perfectly every time! Saved me a lot of dollars and time, all your videos are very helpful.
Frank Tourelle I have a 2014 GLI doing something similar. Basically I have to press extra hard on the upshift button to work. I'm thinking it's specifically the electric micro switch that is the problem. Is this where you applied the electric contract spray?
@@arisafghanzada sorry for the late reply....when I opened up the paddle unit and saw no broken parts, I just sprayed the whole inside of the unit and then put it all back together and it worked perfectly and still does. However sometime later the other paddle developed the same issue and so I did the same procedure and it did not work immediately...until several days later, perhaps it needed more time to dry or connect...not sure exactly but has worked perfectly since.
Thank you so much for this video. I've a MK2 2009 & the left paddle got stuck. I followed exactly your steps & got the problem solved. I went in to clear the right paddle too since I got the whole steering wheel opened up. Took me about 30 min to finish. You're the man.
The exact same problem happened to me, after opening the paddle shifter the same 4 plastic parts were broken off. Thanks for taking the time to make the video, it definitely helped me, and I’m sure it helped others as well. Thanks again.
Thanks boss! Just googled "audi tt paddle shifter broken", found your video and cant wait for the weekend to fix this. The dealer wanted $$$$ to do it!
Many thanks. Same job on 2008 R8. Easy and straightforward with your video. Mine wasn’t responding with no plastic bits broken or obstructing. Open it and just ad some W40 spray. Working as day one. Keep up the good job.
Great help saving a lot of money and down time. Why would anybody dislike this post is beyond me. One extra mention. Remove the Left paddle too while you are there even if it is working now. Mine was working yet 3 of the 4 tabs were broken on the left one.
Thanks for this great little video , just fixed my wife's TT this morning , all was exactly as described including the little plastic bits inside the switch ..
Excellent video. Very helpful. I needed a 30 Torx bit for the two screws on my MY 2011 Mk 2 ((UK). The method in the additional video on resetting the windows worked for me first time. I had to drive a few yards before all the warning lights went out. This intermittent jamming of the paddle has been bugging me for months. I thought it would be an expensive fix so put it off. I was careful, took my time. Had it all done and driving down the road in 45 mins.
Genius. thanks for posting this. My + paddle on my R8 was playing up, one day switching, the next day locked up, this was indeed the fix, just one little plastic clip floating around. perfect now 👍
Excellent instructional video. I had the same problem with my 2008 TT. Did the job in 10 minutes. Minor concern when the DSP and power steering warning lamps stayed on at idle, but both went out after driving 10 meters (per the operating manual lol).
Very helpful video! Worked perfectly apart from after I reconnected the battery the dash was lit up like a Christmas tree. Did a bit of research and found out you have to turn the wheel full left lock then right lock then centre and it cleared !
I just bought an Audi TT MK2 2009 3.2L, and both of its paddle shifters were stuck in the same manner as shown in your video. When I opened them, I found exactly the same cause - the broken plastic guides or locks. I followed your video in exactly the same manner and I faced no problem from the start till the finish. Thanks. One caution though for other users. Although I disconnected the battery terminal before disconnecting airbag, and only connected the battery back once everything was assembled back, the dashboard illuminated with ABS, angle sensor, stability errors. This was probably due to residual voltage in the system which triggered these errors. I had to reset these error with computer. My mechanic says that after disconnecting the battery one should wait for about 20 min to let the system voltage discharge before disconnecting such sensitive items.
Thanks so much well explained not too much not too little - easy to follow👍🏼 you probably saved me a few hundred bucks as all the Audi shops are so overpriced🙏🏼
you all probably dont give a damn but does anyone know a way to get back into an instagram account?? I was dumb forgot my password. I would love any help you can give me!
@Jasiah Maverick I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Worked great for me on a Mk2 3.2 TT. Thanks a lot. The downshift paddle worked ok but I checked it while I was in there and sure enough there were broken clips in there too.
CAUTION: once you've disconnected the battery, leave it for 10 - 20 minutes BEFORE touching the airbag to allow any residual current to dissipate. As a final precaution touch the POSITIVE battery cable to an earthing point for 10 seconds. You should ideally disconnect BOTH battery terminals.
Very nice video,my jetta 2015 mk6 also have non functional paddles,I guess it must be having same problem since service centre ruled out clock spring issue
Thanx! This helped! Btw, the tabs that broke off are for elumination of the + or - sign, weird they break but anoying when you want to use the shifters
great video, thanks. it was almost like Arnold Schwarzenegger was helping me.... I was waiting for the airbag to go off and you shout "get to the chopper!!" :-)
I got a question, My paddle switch was working until I disconnect my battery. Now it is lock after the steering lock symbol came on the dashboard. The symbol is gone after i drive it but the paddle shift is still lock.
Disconnecting battery should not influence the shifters. Check fuses (32 and 33) if you did not blow any with disconnecting/connecting battery. Does your volume and other controls on the steering wheel work?
Mine is clicking but not downshifting i have to click multiple times.. from the normal shifter it downshift normally so i guess it's electrical problem or dust..
Turn steering 90 deg, there will be a hole exposed on the backside. In there you need to unpin a clip. Then 90 deg in another direction, repeat to remove the clip.
I had same problem with my tt mk2 took to Volkswagen workshop and the guys all panic and tell me its fkd u have to take to Audi and bend over!! if only they looked up youtube and found this and charged me an arm n leg lmao Thanks heaps man!!!!!!!
Great vid thanks, today my downshift stuck tommorow I will do the same trick. Is it possible to leave the airbag connector/cable in place? don't have a radio code, disconnect the battery not my first option. Today I gave it a try, It is possible without disconnecting the airbag to take out the switch and remove the plastic debris from the switch in out and repair in 15 minutes. Thanks again!!!
It is possible but you need to be careful how you leave the cable hanging, if it touches something that would produce some electrical signal, the airbag can blow up. If the right cables get +12V, then the airbag will be triggered, logical right.
Yes, in theory, because the pressure sensor + wires and connectors to the air bag, which can trigger it, have no current - the electrical circuit is open. If for some reason you would apply 12 V to its wires, then it will blow up.
I have a 2008 Audi Quattro TT 3.2 & all my steering wheel controls are unresponsive, the only thing that works is the horn, I cannot use the radio controls or paddle shifters, my paddle shifters aren’t stuck they just don’t work, can u tell me if theirs a fuse or something simple that I can do myself & avoid a bug repair bill ? Thanks
Hi, I would check all the connectors if they are firm and all the fuses at drivers doors. If there will be no issues I think you will need a new steering wheel unit (symphony). Best luck!
Hi Ray! If I am not mistaken, it should be around 220 $ in US. The part number is 8J0 951 527. But please, before buying, make sure that it is really the units, which are bad. It can be also the radio or other electrical parts, but less likely. If you have a pall with the TT, you could first exchange these and try if it works. Then you are sure you need new buttons. Yes & thank u for the advice. Just on a side note my 08' Audi 3.2 quattro v6 has 80K miles & still runs fine but just within the past few months i had both window regulators replaced which cost $550 each, & the serpentine belt tensioner replaced. My question is can i expect more mechanical failures with this car now that it's 10 years old ? & what things can i anticipate to repair? Or proactively replace before it fails? Thanks!!
Hi, mine is 07' with 80k km. I had no big issues yet (gladly), just doing regular oil changes and other stuff as suggested in the manual. Few light bulbs went bad and few screws/bolts threads were damaged, so I just replaced them. It's hard to say preventively, you cannot know what will go bad. I did not change anything big.

The unit looks exactly the same which is no surprise as it's obviously a stock VAG component. The problem isn't there all the time and I'm wondering if the broken plastic pieces move around as the steering wheel is rotated and only get stuck some of the time?
In my case it all started with the shifter sometimes stuck and sometimes not. If I would just press it couple of times a bit more harder or drive (move steering wheel) a bit longer, it would start working again. At some point, like 6 months later, the shifter was just fully stuck, did not move anymore.
Yes, at the moment the problem is very intermittent and I did a long journey in the car yesterday and everything was fine. When the problem does appear again I will take the car to my local garage for them to see it and I can then get the work done under warranty which lasts for another 10 months.
Hi, I have the exact same problem with my upshift paddle - are the plastic bits that broke off necessary for the “click” in the paddle? Does it feel any different to when it was working with the clips? Ps - thanks for the detailed video - will come in very handy
Perfect fix, saved myself £150.00, just that broken piece of plastic inside stopping it from working. Much appreciated.

Why you spray it if you removed those plastics inside the pedal??
@@arisafghanzada sorry for the late reply....when I opened up the paddle unit and saw no broken parts, I just sprayed the whole inside of the unit and then put it all back together and it worked perfectly and still does. You are the absolute best, it took me 30 minutes to repair something that had me preocupied for weeks now! Thanks a bunch! Keep it up
I just did the same thing on my Audi R8 ... Thanks so much for your posting this ..... Saved me $600 at the dealer.. :)
Brian Dino , I just did this on my R8 also. Do you know what those broken pieces are from? I had two broken pieces but in the video he had four.
Great help saving a lot of money and down time. Why would anybody dislike this post is beyond me. One extra mention. Remove the Left paddle too while you are there even if it is working now. Mine was working yet 3 of the 4 tabs were broken on the left one.

Thanks mate, worked a treat. PS your English is better than many, many people who are native English! Well done
Really want to thank you man! I just repaired both paddle shifts...Regards from Casablanca Valley, Chile
thanks a lot for helping others posting this video , is been very helpful. I followed your instruction on my 2009 TT and now its working perfect ....
Thank you!!! I’m so giddy, I can’t stop clicking the paddles... and I’m still parked in the garage!
Thanks very much for this! Just repaired mine in 30 minutes, exact same problem with 4 broken of pieces of plastic.
You’re a life saver! Audi quoted me £190 for a new paddle shifter..that’s robbery! 🤣

Super video Dr.Sunta. Downshift paddle on '09 TT had stuck and now, thanks to you, is working again

Great instructional video. Worked for me 1st time. Audi dealer wanted to charge me big to replace with a new paddle.
Thank you
Just had the same problem with my R8. After 20 mins, all fixed. Thank you
I just bought an Audi TT MK2 2009 3.2L, and both of its paddle shifters were stuck in the same manner as shown in your video. When I opened them, I found exactly the same cause - the broken plastic guides or locks.

Good point, capacitors hold charge and can act like small batteries which supply enough voltage for microchips.
Thank you very much for uploading - i wouldn't have attempted this fix by myself without your video!!
Thank you very much!! Perfect how to video! Up shift paddle on my R8 was sticking. Did this exactly and works perfect now. Thank you again!
Thanks so much well explained not too much not too little - easy to follow👍🏼 you probably saved me a few hundred bucks as all the Audi shops are so overpriced🙏🏼
Excellent video. Upshifter was jammed and out came 3 pieces of plastic. Thanks dr. Sunka
I have the same problem too in up shift pedal. Sometimes it works sometimes not!! I will do this trick tomorrow. I hope I will success . Good job mate
awesome!! exactly what i needed, happened the same on the upshift paddle too!
you all probably dont give a damn but does anyone know a way to get back into an instagram account??

@Samir Wade Instablaster =)

@Jasiah Maverick it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy!

@Samir Wade Glad I could help xD
Worked great for me on a Mk2 3.2 TT. Thanks a lot. The downshift paddle worked ok but I checked it while I was in there and sure enough there were broken clips in there too.
Hi from NYC- thanks for this video; my upshift button just died and I found the solution...Kudos to YOU my friend! I subed and liked🤗
Thank you so much for making this video! Saved my sanity and gave me the confidence to do it myself!

Exactly the same paddle as my RS3 which jammed, thank you for the video it helped me a lot :)
Again you helped me alot! i had 3 plastic pieces broke off, the 4th was still firm so i left it in...thanks! (PS mine was Torx 20 and 27)
Thanks Doc, as always informative with clear and complete instructions, Waikanae Beach, New Zealand.
You helped me a lot! Thanks mate!
thanks for awesome infos. I had the same problem on my s4 but was on down shift side.
Loved your video mate. Certainly helped me. The GSD looks a lovely pup.
Thanks a lot! I have a problem with the downshift paddle on a s3 and I didn't think it was a so easy job to do ...
Thanks my friend! My problem was solved thanks to your video!
Hey another great video thank you so much - the only things I’d my electromagnet steering light has no lit up yellow ? Anything I may have done ?
Very nice video,my jetta 2015 mk6 also have non functional paddles,I guess it must be having same problem since service centre ruled out clock spring issue
Perfect instruction video, Thanks for posting.
the model of steering wheel that you have is te original that come with the car or did you change it after market OEM ?
It's original, came with the car. Is a sport version of a steering wheel. (:
Thanx! This helped! Btw, the tabs that broke off are for elumination of the + or - sign, weird they break but anoying when you want to use the shifters
So they won't illuminate anymore unless I buy a new paddle ?
Hi do you know if it's possible to open the paddle shift without open the steering wheel ?
Great video, thank you for giving me the confidence to fix the problem myself.
i need to do this on my downshift paddle. I also noticed the - symbol isn't illuminated but the + symbol is. Any idea how to fix this ?
Thanks! This was exactly what I needed to replace my shifters.
Great video!!
Thanks for this video. Exact same thing happened to my down shifter in my TT.
great video, thanks. it was almost like Arnold Schwarzenegger was helping me.... I was waiting for the airbag to go off and you shout "get to the chopper!!" :-)
:D
Great tutorial! Only problem, when I turn it on, esp error message was displayed, so this one and a wheel lights are on at the dashboard.
Thanks so much! The tutorial saved time and money and my up shifter paddle works perfectly again!
Brilliant fix. Thanks! We just need a like to your previous video on how to reset Windows though please.

Brilliant! Thank you thank you thank you. That’s just saved me a shed load of money. Followed the instructions. Job done !
Great video but I need help for a 2010 VW GTI and it does not have the plastic tabs to expose the Tory bolts. Do you have any tips?
Turn steering 90 deg, there will be a hole exposed on the backside. In there you need to unpin a clip. Then 90 deg in another direction, repeat to remove the clip.
dr. sunka. Thank you. Big help!
I had same problem with my tt mk2 took to Volkswagen workshop and the guys all panic and tell me its fkd u have to take to Audi and bend over!! if only they looked up youtube and found this and charged me an arm n leg lmao Thanks heaps man!!!!!!!
These people in the dealership were acting panic. Otherwise you would not feel willingly to pay them big time. They were laughing behind your back.
is this the same as golf mk5 gti?
Brilliant! Just what i needed to know. Saved me a fortune. Thanks mate.
Hi how about the Mercedes Bclass 120
That Up shift paddle seems to break often. Mine is doing the same thing :/
Great vid thanks, today my downshift stuck tommorow I will do the same trick. dr. sunka Thank U Dr ! Can u tell me how much $$$ is a steering wheel unit ? Thanks.
Hi Ray! If I am not mistaken, it should be around 220 $ in US. The part number is 8J0 951 527. But please, before buying, make sure that it is really the units, which are bad. BAM! Great video dude
Awesome video, already subscribed! Keeping posting videos on the TT
I want to chance to carbon shift paddled so this was a good how to! Thank you very much
what did you do with the broken pieces?! just left them out?
Straight to jail. :D Yes, left them out -> trash.
Just got my TT yesterday and I'm super excited. Going to try your fix thanks for posting
hey, thanks for the Video, same issue, fixed it, very happy, Baltimore USA..
Same problem, fixed it, thanks for the video!
Thanks so much. Easy to follow instructions and it worked!!!

I just have the same problem. It really works
Legenda.. hvala.. a se vozis tt-ja? :)
That's awesome!! Thanks for the info. 👍
Hi, I have the exact same problem with my upshift paddle - are the plastic bits that broke off necessary for the “click” in the paddle? Does it feel any different to when it was working with the clips? Ps - thanks for the detailed video - will come in very handy
Hi, I don't know why these plastic bits are for, but I don't feel any difference in shifting. (:
dr. sunka Thank you very much !!
Exellent vidéo thanks for your help !👍
Great video really helpful
