Hi Sam thank you so much. I’m entering a new year in first grade remote learning. Are you doing a presentation in the future that focuses on the best apps for screen sharing based lessons? Many of my students will be logging in thru google meet from a phone and I need to have access for apps that are compatible on a smart phone. The screen sharing is really my best but I think. I will be trying all of these so I am just concerned for my kiddos who won’t be able to open separate tabs easily on their smart phone.

I like you paired up Padlet +EdPuzzle, it exactly applied the “KWL” model! First, student post what they KNOW to the Padlet, then go to EdPuzzle watch video, answer questions to show what they WANT to know, last, back to Padlet again, post and share what they LEARNED with other classmates. Thank you so much Sir❤🙏. You just helped me with my Exam equivalent assignment. I need to integrate 5 different apps for interaction, creative, assessment n content apps with my lesson.
When you choose “live” sessions, how do you get all of your kids to sign in at the same time? Even with zoom, we end up waiting for 5 minutes until all kids are actually there, allowing for tech problems. If you have 30+ kids, do kids get frustrated with the slow pace of live sessions?
This is a great question! If it's a real issue for you and your students, you could set them up to be student-paced but still be checking student responses as they come through live on your end, which would allow them to work at their own pace, but would also allow you to monitor their work and jump in and give feedback to individual students as needed.
alo is coming soon this year you can Sign up for a demo too !! alo.live/learn-live/ Should be the next main platform for live e-learning. From what i know its worth signing up as they haven’t launch yet and could have some decent offers & promotions when it starts. This is what I know so far “alo is an all in one platform that allows you to broadcast your LIVE classes and training sessions worldwide whilst removing ALL the admin! No more time spent doing the boring stuff, no more planning, no more handling payments, no more hassle. Focus on what you’re great at, teaching and educating LIVE in the alo classroom”
We heavily use Slack but started using Voodle too, which is like Slack but with short video. (Definite flipgrid vibes) It also integrates into Slack, which is helpful. Zoom got too overwhelming and Voodle is a great async video alternative with channel options. Also Free!
What program did you use to make this video? Meaning, how are we able to see and hear you and also see the screen scrolling behind you? This is great!!

Great! To watch my live shows, you just need to come to my channel when I host them. Otherwise you can still watch them on my channel as posted videos afterwards!
Our school purchased Nearpod for us for the fall. Do you think it is appropriate for first graders? They come into first with a huge range of reading skills. Some are still working on their letter sounds and some are starting to read. Usually a small handful are reading relatively fluently. Thoughts? What grade do you teach? Thank you for your videos?
Hi Liz, Yes, I do think it can work for Nearpod (also I support that purchase!). There are lots of pre-made lessons for lower grades on Nearpod. Have you been able to check them out yet? I teach 6th, though I also taught 2nd for a stint as well.
@@NewEdTechClassroom Thanks for replying. I have checked out some of the 1st grade Nearpod lessons. They seem hard, honestly. I think basically because it is relying on the first graders being able to READ the directions which will not be the case at the beginning of the year for sure. I know we can add audio to the slides. We would just have to do that for all of them. We have limited tech at our school. The kids will not be coming in super savvy. They did do GC remotely last year with Kinder. What are your thoughts on Seesaw for remote learning? I watched your Seesaw video for building a student portfolio. Do you think Seesaw is a good way to go for the lower grades as far as completing assignments? It seems a little user friendlier then doing it through GC. Thoughts? Sorry if my questions are annoying. Just trying to feel prepared. School starts in a month and we are still up in the air if we will be remote or at school in my area. Thank you for your responses and your awesomeness!
I've been looking for someone like you!! Thanks!. I really need online interactive tool, e.g. write A B C or D....or writings that I can see are done in the time limit etc.
Your vidoes are AWESOME! Thank you so much for making tech easier for us non-techies! I have a question about how you set up your assignments. Are you setting them up in google docs or google slides? Do you just add the links directly? Thanks so much!
Hi Diana, I use both Google Docs and Google Slides, but for what you see in this lesson, I'm showing Google Slides. But both can be used to create hyperdocs with embedded links! Slides are just more dynamic and allow you to add pretty much any type of media content!
Hi! Thank you so much for all the wonderful information that you share with us. As a complete beginner to digital teaching, I am really interested in learning about how to make synchronous and asynchronous online teaching sessions wherein I can present myself, my screen, audio, video, PowerPoint, PDFs, etc all at the same time. I really liked the way you keep your picture in the video with only you and no background included and how a smooth motion transitioned the picture to the left when you needed to show the Pear Deck tools. Would love and appreciate if you could make a detailed tutorial for the same. Thanking you in anticipation. Regards from India

Hi Sam. Your videos really inspire me! I am curious - is it possible to use both the Peardeck and Nearpod add ons at the same time on the same slides presentation or do you have to use one or the other depending on the lesson? Thanks!
Hi Kim, It's hard to give universal advice b/c lots of districts have different levels of restriction (privacy rules also differ based on age - under 13 is much more stringent). In general it's best to use reputable programs that are made for education and that have data protection built into their platforms. But definitely still check in with your school site.
Hi! Thanks for the video! What software do you use to do your recording of yourself. I love how your background is transparent and you're overlayed in the video. I see you use ScreenFlow for editing, but is that how you record yourself with a transparent background?
I actually recently put out a video about how I do it! th-cam.com/video/qgtBjdu_usc/w-d-xo.html I use Screenflow for the editing and a green screen as well.
Thank you for this video! I have a Jamboard question. If I assign one to each student in Classroom, could that be a personal digital nb? And if so, is it easy to view a particular page without having to look through the entire notebook?
Hi Robin, yes, you could definitely use Jamboard as a digital notebook. As far as just viewing a particular page without looking through the entire thing, I can't think of any way that would be possible.
Hi Sam, thank you so much for these tutorials. I am trying to get set up with Nearpod here. The built-in tools of the Add on for Google Slides fonction seems to only be available through a Gold plan our upward. It could be the Nearpod team trying to generate action on their website (since you edited your video)... Can you confirm it is so or am I not using it properly? Thanks a lot.
Wow Sam! I was in a training in my school KapoleiHS in HI about how to create websites, when my coworker and presenter , Mr. Soriano, recommend your youtube videos. Since then, 2 days ago, I have watch so many of your them and learned so so much. Thanks, thanks and thanks for sharing your experience and tech knowledge in this uncertain times. QUESTION: I love your G. Slides template with the 5E´s. In some of your videos you said they are available in your website. I can´t find them! Muchas gracias from Hawaii (teaching Spanish!)

Hello, do you have any videos on how to use a green screen during virtual lessons? I have ordered one and plan to use it to enhance my lessons. Thank you!
Question: I can't read what downloads from SmallPDF. It's fuzzy behind a huge black and white banner in front.EVERYTHING I try to download comes through Small PDF, so I can't open any of my new PDF's. How can I open them? Thank you!
Hi Susan, I'm not quite sure why everything would be coming through weird in Small PDF when you download docs, but it sounds like you might want to uninstall the extension from your browser and maybe try a different pdf reader like Adobe Acrobat. That sounds like a really annoying problem! I hope that helps!

@@NewEdTechClassroom Thank you so much. It did help. Can I make a small request. We are having inter class drama competition with students recording their part of the acting remotely. The theme of the competition is Famous Historical Personalities. Could you please make a video on some useful tech tools that I can use to make my Historical Personality realistic and absorbing. Since children will have to deliver their dialogues to each other remotely, it would definitely be a challenge. Thank you so much once again.
Is Ed puzzle free? I thought if you want to create classrooms, you need to pay, no? I love the idea of linking the asynchronous assignments to Padlet or Jamboard so they can comment on each other’s work. Thanks for all the ideas!
First of all thank You very much for Your tips! You are amazing! I just have a small problem when I am using kahoot during my zoom session with my students. They log in into live session on kahoot.it then enter the code but they have to go to their browser and they can not see my shared screen. What should I tell them to do? Only on my shared screen I have questions and answers they just have colors. Can You give me an advice what shall I do? Greetings from Poland :)
Hi Olga, great question, and sorry for the long delay in responding! Definitely teach them to split their screen by dragging one browser tab to one side of the screen and another browser tab to the other (or use a screen splitter extension like Tab Resize). Another option would also be to have students use the Kahoot app and respond to the questions on their smartphones.
can you please tell me what software you're using to create these videos, allow you to get your video so seamlessly integrated with the background presentations?
How do you get your image overlaid on your slides??? I’d love to do this during my love presentations with my class! Is it compatible with Google Meet?
Great video! I have found watching your videos has helped me tremendously when preparing for this coming school year. I do have a question about PearDeck...Can it integrate with Microsoft TEAMS like it can with the Google platform? I was used to using Google Classroom and all google products but our district says we cant use it during the school year. We have to use Microsoft TEAMS. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for creating these videos. Can you tell me what language I can use to search how to video myself the way you’ve done in this video? How did you split screen?
Hello! Here's a video about how I make my tutorials: th-cam.com/video/qgtBjdu_usc/w-d-xo.html&t= You can split the screen in Chrome by going up to green dot on the top left-hand side of the screen and select "Tile Window."
Hi David, I'd look into add-ons like EquatIO and Hypatia for creating digital math equations. It's a little less than ideal, but you'll likely have to save the equations as images in order to get them to show up in the interactivity platforms. Also just check Nearpod to see what they already have for their pre-built lessons.
Hi Shonali, here's an article about how you can get students to log into Pear Deck without using an email account: www.peardeck.com/pear-deck-blog/2019/6-ways-to-use-pear-deck-guest-join#:~:text=We've%20just%20launched%20a,email%20addresses%20or%20join%20anonymously.
Thank you so much for this valuable information about online teaching. Could you please tell me which tools are must for maths teaching. It would be helpful for us.
Hi, my apologies for the delay in responding! I'd definitely look at tools like EquatIO and Hypatia for math, as well as look into the lessons that have already been pre-created in Nearpod to give you some ideas for what you might do (or use those lessons!). You might also want to try out Jamboard or Explain Everything (both whiteboard programs) in order to model problems and have students interact/show work. I also know math teachers who use Padlet and have students draw the steps to a problem as a post, though that probably wouldn't be your go-to tool.
Hi Maria, There's an app called Faster Scan that allows you to take pictures with your phone and convert them to a .pdf. Then, you could just upload those .pdfs to Google Docs. Hope that helps! play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coolmobilesolution.fastscannerfree&hl=en_US
Hi Sam! Thanks for sharing your valuable lessons. I am a brazilian elementary English teacher, who teaches for vunerable kids at a public school. Since we are remote teaching, I’d like to know if you have any tips for the students that have no access to a PC. We are teaching remotely and also asynchronously through their cellphones. Can you give us any ideas? Thank you!
Hi Azussa, Many platforms also have app versions (Nearpod, EdPuzzle, Actively Learn, Kahoot, Quizizz, and many more), so I'd definitely utilize those for building lessons to access via smartphones.
I show how interactivity, differentiation, and small groups can (and should) be used together in this live show if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/8DmHfH14t1I/w-d-xo.html&t
I think it's challenging to give a definitive yes or no answer to that. In general I do think that when used correctly, tech tools can make material more accessible. That has certainly been my personal experience.
@@NewEdTechClassroom A lot of these tools are great, but have to be MADE accessible for students with disabilities. For example, Kahoot. How does a student who is blind or visually impaired use Kahoot? You need to provide enough visual description so they can navigate it on their phone because the platform doesn't. The thing is, I know this because I work in disability but ALL instructors have students with disabilities in their classrooms. They may not know it, but look at the numbers - you do! We need to be having this discussion around tech in the classroom especially now as more classes are moving online. W3C compliance doesn't mean its actually accessible. It means it meets the bare minimum for accessibility.
Also, I am really surprised that the certification courses you mentioned (Google educators and ... was the other National Geographic?) didn't go over basic disability access. If they did you would have been easily able to answer my question and likely included that in your video. Its pretty easy to say hey this platform presents some problems for students with disabilities, this is what you can do to hack it... because that's what we need to do until enough of us can pressure these companies to actually make their platforms accessible and not just "compliant" to the minimum standards.

Thank you so much Sir❤🙏. You just helped me with my Exam equivalent assignment. I need to integrate 5 different apps for interaction, creative, assessment n content apps with my lesson.
You're very welcome!
Excellent one Sir
Thank you so much!
Thank you. Its very helpful!
Glad to hear that, Cristina! Thanks for watching!
If it's a real issue for you and your students, you could set them up to be student-paced but still be checking student responses as they come through live on your end, which would allow them to work at their own pace, but would also allow you to monitor their work and jump in and give feedback to individual students as needed.
alo is coming soon this year you can Sign up for a demo too !! alo.live/learn-live/
Should be the next main platform for live e-learning. From what i know its worth signing up as they haven’t launch yet and could have some decent offers & promotions when it starts. This is what I know so far
“alo is an all in one platform that allows you to broadcast your LIVE classes and training sessions worldwide whilst removing ALL the admin!
No more time spent doing the boring stuff, no more planning, no more handling payments, no more hassle. Focus on what you’re great at, teaching and educating LIVE in the alo classroom”
What recording website do you use to record? How do you get yourself to look like there isn't a background behind you?
Check it out! th-cam.com/video/qgtBjdu_usc/w-d-xo.html&t=
We heavily use Slack but started using Voodle too, which is like Slack but with short video. (Definite flipgrid vibes) It also integrates into Slack, which is helpful. Zoom got too overwhelming and Voodle is a great async video alternative with channel options. Also Free!
Thanks for the suggestion!
Muchas gracias por otro video tutorial lleno de muchas ideas y herramientas para usar en ambos estilos de aprendizaje.
De nada! Gracias a ti por mirar!
What program did you use to make this video? Meaning, how are we able to see and hear you and also see the screen scrolling behind you? This is great!!

great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for your videos! This helps so much!:)
You're welcome, Jennifer! Thanks so much for the support!
Hi Sam, this is exactly what I have been searching for. It is a really great resource for teachers. Please how do I get your on demand webinars?
Great! To watch my live shows, you just need to come to my channel when I host them. Otherwise you can still watch them on my channel as posted videos afterwards!
Phenomenal! Thank you!
You're welcome, Sarah!!
You’re welcome! Glad it was helpful!
Great video! Thank you so much for sharing! I have a question, is it possible to share a Google slide like an html so that I can post it on my LMS?
Thanks, Guisella! Here's an article I found on the topic: www.solveyourtech.com/how-to-get-the-embed-code-for-a-google-slides-file/

Thank you for sharing this..
You're welcome, Rajesh!
Hi there, I actually recently put out a video about how I do it! th-cam.com/video/qgtBjdu_usc/w-d-xo.html
I do warn that it can be a bit time intensive for day-to-day teaching purposes, but the software I use is called Screenflow if you're interested in checking it out here: telestream.8bx6ag.net/c/2242743/352742/4900
What software did you use to make this TH-cam video?

Mr. Sam, what tool could you recommend to use in such a way that I could see my presentation as well as my 5th grade students at the same time?
For a single monitor I would split your screen, and if you have the luxury, hook up a second monitor. Sharing a video from my student channel about screen splitting: th-cam.com/video/fvY-1Eis_7I/w-d-xo.html&t
I would really like to know how you created this video and placed yourself within the screen the way that it is! Tips would be great!

Hi Sam. Your videos really inspire me! I am curious - is it possible to use both the Peardeck and Nearpod add ons at the same time on the same slides presentation or do you have to use one or the other depending on the lesson? Thanks!
Thanks, Lara! No, you'd only be able to use one at a time because they both require you (and students) to sign in to access the interactivity tools.
Jamboard, Padlet, Peardeck, Nearpod, Kahoot, Flipgrid, Edpuzzle,
Thanks! I need to add those links to the description!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! How do you handle student privacy with all the different web tools out there? What is your advice to teachers?
Hi Kim, It's hard to give universal advice b/c lots of districts have different levels of restriction (privacy rules also differ based on age - under 13 is much more stringent). In general it's best to use reputable programs that are made for education and that have data protection built into their platforms. But definitely still check in with your school site.
Tx for your videos! How did u record your videos? It’s amazing!!!!
I use a greenscreen and a program called Screenflow on the Mac :)
Hi! Thanks for the video! What software do you use to do your recording of yourself. I love how your background is transparent and you're overlayed in the video. I see you use ScreenFlow for editing, but is that how you record yourself with a transparent background?
I actually recently put out a video about how I do it! th-cam.com/video/qgtBjdu_usc/w-d-xo.html
I use Screenflow for the editing and a green screen as well.
This is Fantastic thank you!
Awesome, you're welcome Athena!
You're welcome! Yeah Nearpod changed what they offer for free and now the add-on is a paid feature, unfortunately.
Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you're asking. Could you clarify your question?
Hello, do you have any videos on how to use a green screen during virtual lessons? I have ordered one and plan to use it to enhance my lessons. Thank you!
Only this one: th-cam.com/video/qgtBjdu_usc/w-d-xo.html
Question: I can't read what downloads from SmallPDF. It's fuzzy behind a huge black and white banner in front.EVERYTHING I try to download comes through Small PDF, so I can't open any of my new PDF's. How can I open them? Thank you!
Hi Susan, I'm not quite sure why everything would be coming through weird in Small PDF when you download docs, but it sounds like you might want to uninstall the extension from your browser and maybe try a different pdf reader like Adobe Acrobat. That sounds like a really annoying problem! I hope that helps!
Thank you so much.

@@NewEdTechClassroom Thank you very much for replying me. And many thanks for making a series of very useful videos for teachers.
Hello, In the tutorial when you are clicking on the word Padlet the site opens. Can you please explain to me how to do that? Thanks.
There's an option to add a "button" when creating a page in Adobe Spark Post, which is where I made this presentation. Hope that helps!

@@NewEdTechClassroom thanks for the response! Definitely i will implement your advices!
can you please tell me what software you're using to create these videos, allow you to get your video so seamlessly integrated with the background presentations?

Yes, absolutely!
Hi Brittany,
Thanks! Yes, PD does work with Microsoft! www.peardeck.com/microsoft
@@NewEdTechClassroom awesome! Thank you!
Thank you for creating these videos. Can you tell me what language I can use to search how to video myself the way you’ve done in this video? How did you split screen?
Hello! Here's a video about how I make my tutorials: th-cam.com/video/qgtBjdu_usc/w-d-xo.html&t=
You can split the screen in Chrome by going up to green dot on the top left-hand side of the screen and select "Tile Window."
@@NewEdTechClassroom Don't see that anywhere.
How can this be applied to a chemistry course where students as expected to associate scientific content to mathematics
I am an onlune tutor of IELTS and I want to build an LMS and what is your advice in the regard.
Hi, if you're looking to use an LMS as an individual, your best bet is probably going to be Google Classroom.
Hi Sam I wanted to know so tools like quizizz and peardeck require the students to log in through a gmail account. How can we avoid that?
Hi Shonali, here's an article about how you can get students to log into Pear Deck without using an email account: www.peardeck.com/pear-deck-blog/2019/6-ways-to-use-pear-deck-guest-join#:~:text=We've%20just%20launched%20a,email%20addresses%20or%20join%20anonymously.
Thank you so much for this valuable information about online teaching.
Could you please tell me which tools are must for maths teaching.
It would be helpful for us.
Reply please!
@@NewEdTechClassroom Thanks for precious suggestions.
What do you recommend I use to scan documents (worksheets) and put them in google docs?
Hi Maria, There's an app called Faster Scan that allows you to take pictures with your phone and convert them to a .pdf. Then, you could just upload those .pdfs to Google Docs. Hope that helps!

Is there a free version of Equti0?
Yes!
Sam, I want to show ppt behind me and me at a corner of the screen, talking like you in a facebook group love.Is it possible without the app obs?
Sorry not love ,please read live
Hi, I haven't used obs, but you can live stream with Ecamm and use a green screen to get that effect.
Thanks a lot.
You’re welcome!
Can you help me for pear deck add ons? I cannot install the app.
It's likely because your school has blocked access to add-ons and you'll need to request access.
Fully interactive classes are great in theory, until you have to differentiate and rotate between groups.
I show how interactivity, differentiation, and small groups can (and should) be used together in this live show if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/8DmHfH14t1I/w-d-xo.html&t
Cool and all, but how much of this is actually accessible to students with disabilities?
