I'm a 1-person team for right now, so a little support goes a long way

I had surgery on the meniscus and they offered no PT!?

    Very well summarized! Thank you"
The treatment package of stitching the meniscus and using stem cells is not available in my country. I presume I would first get it stitched together and then have the stem cells injected. Would this be the right order?
Should the stem cells be added to the healing party right after the surgery or only a few weeks later?

Hey! This is a great question! The three methods that I mentioned are still undergoing the initial stages of clinical testing, or need more comparative longterm studies. I know that PRP (plasma rich platelets) are the most popular right now because they are easy to inject and don't always require surgery. Of course, everyone's situation is different on whether the surgeon believes a meniscus needs a repair, and if the stem cell supplement will also be necessary. These decisions are still a grey area due to not a lot of significant data. Right now the gold standard is to complete the repair and see how your body does with the healing first 😄 it may also be dependent on the surgeons preferences...hope that helps!

Very good point!! It makes sense for post-menopausal women to receive more of a collagen graft. Currently there's a TON of research on which type of graft/stem cell will have the best meniscus healing potential overall and hasn't focused on specific demographics just yet. Anyhow, more research should be done on women and their life-time reproductive system changes :)

@@dr.beccasptrehab Thank you! Sometimes people just don't believe me. Your video definitely shed some light on the treatment options. When my tear was diagnosed (orthopedist from MRI), I was only told to try PT and then possibly surgery. I had quite a few years of it impeding my activities. Then, when hearing about the importance of collagen and that we produce less later in life, I decided to give it a try. Within weeks of taking a collagen supplement regularly - no more symptoms. This was 3 years ago. I'm 64 and very physically active. I just hope if I have other similar injuries, I'll find a dr with updated information!!
