    I just saw my hygienist yesterday and she told me how to angle the Sonicare for the backs of the front teeth, and it's exactly how you showed it, so it's good to see that affirmed here. I had the 45-degree angle right on the other areas, but I'd found the backs hard to get to because I was holding it wrong.

      You definitely do not want to over brush as this can cause erosion in those areas, especially if you brush immediately after meals or acidic drinks/ food. Just rinse with water and then you can brush half hour later if you would like.

    Hey Doc, sorry didn't quite catch your name to try and spell it. A lot of dentists use to recommend circular motion, and then several electric brushes (some still) came out with literally rotating heads that either spun in continuous circles, or, spun 180 - 180 like a pendulum.
    1.) Is the general dentist recommendation to now avoid that method, at least when using electric brushes?
    2.) When it comes to preventing gums from recessing, is it best to apply pressure and still be cleaning the gums and the connective tissue that gums have against teeth, or should people just massage those areas with bristles and avoid any amount of pressure? It seems counterintuitive to deep clean the gums, but when we learn the plaque and tartar are what make t he gums detach and recede, I can understand why applying pressure there is necessary to basically combat that? A separate video going into detail about brushing methods for gum care versus white teeth should definitely land you more views I'm sure!

    • @TheDentalStandard
      @TheDentalStandard  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Nic, my name is Dr. Vlad Crutcher.
      1. Most electric toothbrushes do not require you to have to "brush". They also have pressure sensors to ensure you are not pressing too hard. I prefer the sonic tooth brushes compared to the circular ones that spin for the exact reason that I find them to be too abrasive.
      2. If you are not scrubbing and do not set off the sensor the whole time, you should not be too worried about gum recession. Flossing is also essential for gum health. We will be starting up more videos soon! I appreciate the recommendation.

      There are many other little nuances that are at play as well. Need to stick with the basic idea that we are trying to clean all the surfaces of teeth.

  • @sharkk43
    @sharkk43 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Should we still use small motions around the tooth? Not like manual brushing, obviously, but small motions so that we can get the brushe's hairs between the teeth properly and cover all the sides of the tooth. I have seen this advise in comments that some medical recommend this as long as you stick to really small motions. It seems that even your clip has some of these motions, not only the horizontal one.
    It also feels that if I only use the horizontal movement, not all areas of the tooth are covered. So I move up and down as well, just small vertical motions on one or two teeth at a time, and also a small left to right, right to left motion on the tooth itself. It then looks like a small rotative motion. But the circle's radius is only as long as the tooth's width at max, so it's NOT that manual toothbrush really wide motion.
    Does this make sense? I see a lot of videos that explicitly and totally refute any circular motion with electric toothbrushes, sonic or not, with no explanation or going into detail. I feel like this should be better explained for people that want more detail. The standard, simple horizontal movement is not enough in my opinion. It really feels that I don't cover well in between the teeth with only that motion, although I am aware of the high frequency oscillating hairs of the brush. They just don't have the best angle, perpendicular, to the tooth's area of you don't move the toothbrush around the tooth.

    Which Sonicare brush would you recommend? Also do you brush first then floss second, or vice-versa? Or do it matter which order?

    • @TheDentalStandard
      @TheDentalStandard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The brush depends on the features you want. At a minimum, I recommend a pressure sensor. This is in the Sonicare 4100. As you go up you get more features like various brushing modes and intensity. This can be useful for many reasons. I like to recommend gum care mode for people who build a lot of tarter/plaque/calculus it goes for 3 minutes instead of 2 minutes.
      I recommend flossing first and then brushing. Technically it does not matter. However, I would like to get as much stuff out and feel nice and clean after brushing!
      Great questions!!

    I was so confused how most instructive videos cover the quadrants because they dont cover both sides of teeth just front side and ive usually done 8 zones all my life (inside/outside every corner one by one)
    Now im getting used to this timer thing and im doing first quarter upper outside, then upper inside, lower outside, lower inside - forgetting about dividing into left and right sides.
    Sonic toothbrushes are kind of weird to get used to using as they look deceptively like a normal one, but teeth feel very clean and polished!

    • @TheDentalStandard

      There are many techniques and the timers work differently based on the models. It is always a good idea to read the instructions that come with it and apply the knowledge of this technique to the timer.

  • @spritabob

    I thought the demonstration of how to brush was generally good, but it appeared most of the time that the brush was not positioned to reach the margin between the teeth and the gums. The instructions that came with my Sonicare say to press firmly to make the bristles reach the gumline or slightly beneath the gumline. My gums are sensitive, so I don't want to press too firmly, but I would think that the bristles need to reach the gumline.

    • @TheDentalStandard

And I'm not forgetting about the sides, because I add one more minute just for the sides to make them a bit whiter like my front teeth are. Do you have any tips? Also I'm using two toothpastes: Parodontax fluoride and Elmex sensitive whitening. Thank you !

    Plaque is leftover food and bacterial poop? bacteria don't poop?
    Very good video though for brushing tips.

    • @TheDentalStandard
      @TheDentalStandard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! Dental plaque is much more complex than just leftover food and bacterial waste. It's a biofilm primarily composed of bacteria, along with substances they produce called extracellular polymeric substances, which help the bacteria stick together and to your teeth. Plaque also includes components from saliva, traces of food particles (especially sugars and starches), and various bacterial byproducts. While bacteria don't "poop" in the human sense, they do produce metabolic byproducts, including acids, as they digest nutrients, which are a significant part of the plaque's composition and contribute to tooth decay.

      It depends on the model. You just want to break it down in a systematic way that makes sense for you.
      30 seconds per quadrant (half of top or bottom), inside and outside then 30 second on other and then repeat for bottom.
      You can also do 30 seconds outside only then 30 seconds inside only on top and then do the same for bottom. There are more ways but these are easiest.

      Great questions! Pressure wise will vary depending on gum sensitivity and how much crowding etc. I recommend pressing hard enough to set off the pressure sensor and then back off until it is not going off and comfortable but still engaged along the gums!
      Brush head just comes down to personal preference. I have tried the knockoff ones and the bristles seem to not be sturdy plus I would be worried about chemicals and whatnot. So I just stick to the name brands but buy the big packs to save money.

    You didn't mention brushing the biting surfaces.

    • @TheDentalStandard
      @TheDentalStandard  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So whne you follow this technique you will get half the biting surface from the outside and from the inside. You are welcome to do them as well but I would do it as an additional cycle (one or two beeps) after you finish this technique.

      Some people like to brush it. They have tongue scrapers which you can gently use to clean your tongue!

    What about going in circles

    • @TheDentalStandard
      @TheDentalStandard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Circles are good for manual brushing, you do not need to do other movements with a Sonicare.

    So I have been brushing with the 45 degree angle and doing fronts and backs but I didn't think about the fact that with an electric toothbrush I didn't need to do the little circles so I have still been doing that too hahahaha 😂😂😂. I have never had a cavity though and I'm 39 so it's true if you do it right you can keep your teeth. P.S. I only floss once a day though... shhh 🤫🤫🤫

    How to avoid toothpaste from flying away after turning the brush on lol

    • @TheDentalStandard
      @TheDentalStandard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey Darwin, great question. Make sure to not start the brush until you put it in your mouth and then keep your lips closed slightly around the brush while brushing. I hope this helps.

      @@TheDentalStandard thanks for the response. Is it okay to brush more than 2 mins tho?

    • @TheDentalStandard
      @TheDentalStandard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@NiwradarwiN23 Totally, I keep my Sonicare on "gum care" mode this is a 3-minute cycle. It does the regular two minutes and then hit problem areas such as behind the lower teeth and any other areas. Happy Brushing!

      Think of tooth brushing as reverse painting. If you try to paint a white wall with black paint and go very fast you will see streaks of white everywhere. With teeth instead of seeing streaks, you will leave areas of plaque.

    Why do you "pollute" your video with silly music ? Some of your comments are so low volume that they are fifficult to hear, and on top of that you add silly music. Why ? Very sad because without the pollution the video would be very very good !

      You can use toothpaste or nothing. Of course, different pastes can be helpful or detrimental. That would be a whole separate video.
