My Grandfather used to swear that the best bait was leftover chicken pieces. Bones, hearts, gizzards, etc. He used to raise his own chickens then when slaughtered collect the blood. Freeze it in milk cartons one cup of blood to a cardboard half gallon container filled with water. At times he would also use the blender to liquify guts, gizzards, whole eggs, and livers. He said crabs can smell blood several hundred feet away from the trap.
Anyway, great video. I have a NY Steak 1 inch thick marinating for my dinner. 😊

Chickens seems to be the go to bait. I like using shad because of the amount of blood inside them that makes them smell so raw and fishy. Perhaps, we were just dropping in the wrong spot or the tides were affecting their appetite. But we do good almost everytime. Too many variables. Thanks for watching! Your steak sounds delicious!

@@allabouttheoutdoorznot just you. The bite turned off completely for nearly everyone. One keeper per pull has been the normal the two times I went. Carmet and bodega bay 60-100’ didn’t matter.

Might need to try deeper if weather allows for another outing. I have 200ft of ropes per trap but I usually stay between 80-100'.

You have a nice setup. My wife and I kayak fish but as we get older we are considering purchasing a small power boat.

Thank you. It's great to be out spending time together. A boat is convenient but there's pros and cons. It's all about making memories.

There are still a ton of jumbos at Bodega. We just weren't catching them in abundance on tgis trip but majority of the ones we kept were 7-7 1/2 inches.

I think there's alot of variables that affects so it's hard to say...tides, baits, depths, location, etc. Don't lose hope thou...commercial delayed so still time for us recreational fishermen to get jumbos if weather permits.

I suppose DFW ain't doing their job to conserve the population then since they're out at the docks waiting for boats to return just to check and conduct surveys. But who are we to make that determination to tell one to stop going out when everyone who contributed funds in purchasing a license has equal priviledges to harvest.

@wyliem Classic example of ignorance in action...you don't have a clue as to what you are talking about... fisherman are not the problem
