Thanks for an incredible day on the water Clay & Steph! Thankfully, we got the job done and Returned 'Em Right into the cooler this trip. Not all trips are like that, and we're here to be a resource for any anglers who want to learn best release practices and help more survive for the future of fishing!
I seem to have a tough time venting past 200 feet. The air will release but eyes are still popped out and they float half the time. If venting, the one puncture on either side is sufficient correct? Or is it recommended to vent both sides? What brand venting tool did you use in the video?
@@mathewdelilloin those depths, and if the eyes are bulging, I’m definitely using a descending device 99% of the time. Venting only gets the gases out of the body cavity while descending can help all the gases recompress (including in the eyes and any gas bubbles that form under the skin or elsewhere).
@@mathewdelillo Definitely give descending devices a shot. We always carry both on board but really only vent if multiple fish need to go back at the same time (probably time to move at that point anyway). It takes an extra two minutes but at least you don't have to worry about them floating off still.
Even in shallow water we have had that issue w such fish as smallmouth bass in northern waters and have to vent them. Thanks for the great tips, I wish all sportsman would take note to help the fishery unfortunately we know the party boats won't. @@returnemright
we have been using the Return Them Right descending device for the last two years. We have not seen a single fish float back up, and have only lost 3-4 to sharks. It's easy to use, and definately saves a bunch of fish.
Thank you, Clay for having that gentleman on and giving that training. I look forward to using these tools in the future. I went to the website and filled out the information to receive these tools. I think if anybody is looking at this video today or in the future, this is some very important informationfor fisherman I hope one day I get to meet you and Stephanie in the future. Be safe and take care. Thank you.
Don’t know if you know. I found this out this pass fishing trip. If sea sick and you have beanbags. Put your stomach in the curve of the bag and lay there, limbs loose. 10-15 min and your straight. Wish I knew this years ago. Awesome fish day. Keep up the great content.
Another amazing video and thank you for the excellent content. This winter I will be purchasing my first used ( new to me) boat . This channel is inspirational and educational on all levels . We appreciate the good work that you do , keep up the good work.
In Memphis, if you hear gunshots in your neighborhood and you call 911, most of the time the cops show up. In the Keys, they call 911 if your boat is too long. I need to move to the Keys.
I moved from Memphis to the Keys and now leave the car unlocked and don’t duck bullets on the interstate (no bullets or interstate). Wife misses Memphis food but love the fishing.
My dad's name was Clay. Actually Clayton but everyone called him clay. He died 7 years ago just a couple of days ago and he would have been 89 today. I was driving around with my mom today and I mentioned that I watch the show with somebody on whose name was clay. Thanks for putting you and your family and your fishing on TH-cam I really enjoy it. On congratulations on your daughter I forgot to say that a few videos ago I guess
Clay - SEA KEEPER! Impressive backing skills that's a talent. And a nice calm day! Whenever we go it's 2x that sea! One day we will get flat calm.. luv from SE GA!
Thanks for another great episode. This is really important information. We all need to be informed on how to preserve a healthy fish population. I learned more valuable information. I’ve only been in Florida waters for a short time and appreciate you sharing your knowledge.👍
Totally impressed......with the education......with your guest......with the catch......with the new YACHT!!......and with the two of you! Great video!
What a beautiful boat guys, glad to see Steph back out enjoying the boat (at least I think she was) awful being sea sick. Also thanks Nick for educating all of us on the use of the descending devices.
Congratulations on the baby!! We just had our 3rd grandbaby arrive. We went offshore fishing out of Key Largo a couple weeks back and caught our first Mahis. The wife caught a 40 lber. Glad to see y’all at it and safe from the hurricane. Best wishes.
Makes me happy to know there's good fishing in the Keys. In the early 90's I did a lot of fishing on shore, southern Miami-Dade. Then I started traveling. By 2000 or so , can't quite remember, everything was fished out. Your video verifies what my dad told me. The earth heals itself. Pretty much anyways. Awesome video Thank you.
return 'em right is an awesome organization. If you don't believe in this tech, u need to watch the video on their website or watch the NC State video where a grouper, who essentially looks dead from barotrauma, is put on the release rig and videoed on the way back down. The "dead" fish literally comes back to life! Eyes go back, splayed gills come back into place and the fish can be seen SWIMMING OFF! Truly incredible. Everyone who bottoms fish needs to watch this--incredible! Thanks for support them.
Congratulations on Keeley❤ y’all made a beautiful baby! I’m a few weeks away from my son being born very excited to start showing him Life By The Bow videos😊The new boat and y’all’s catches are awesome💪🏻
Stephanie, if you drink a warm Ginger Ale, it will settle your stomach down from sea sickness. Cold doesn't work, just room temperature. I checked Florida regulations, and everything on the Florida DOT page lists 102" width, then a permit is required. Florida being the boating capital of the south, probably looks the other way, provided you don't encounter a Karen or Darren. I looked into purchasing annual permits for the 4 states I'd have to travel though and it's $2k a year for all 4. Still cheaper than getting the fine and the Po-Po calling the next state to be on the look out for you. One thing I would pay attention to is exceeding the federal 10K trailer weight limit which most states adopted without having a class A tractor trailer license.
Yep, it was me. I called the Police. My Jealousy got the best of me way up here in the Panhandle. Coincidently I picked up my little 25 footer from the Marine Electronics shop this afternoon where they replaced my Airmar B75M 20. I don't have a low frequency one. Great trip and I took advantage of the Release "EM Right offer. Thanks
the electric reel isn't really cheating but in my opinion, I like reeling in the rods because I think its more fun battling the fish especially king fish
Already received mine. Was getting the my new boat and followed the instructions online. It was an easy process and they mailed it out to me with no problems. Now I am legal if I get to go offshore fishing.
There is a lot of blood when you are fishing, and I wonder how do you manage to keep the boat so clean and all the seats so new and white as they are brand new? Everything looks so nice!😊 I am impressed!
Started fishing the Gulf at the age of 7. To this day I still hear folks claim the stomach protruding due to Barotrauma is their swim bladder. That would be an impossible feat, but some still believe that old tale. Beautiful boat and fish. Great video, thanks for sharing.
I was looking for y'all in the keys last month. BIG fan of your interesting and informative videos! If a clearly legal fish is chomped by a shark and no longer makes measurement, what can be done with it? Sharks eat a LOT of the offshore catch in NC! Stephanie does a LOT better than I do when I'm seasick! I try make everyone on the boat as miserable as I am so they will head in. Props to Return Em Right!!!!
Man, watched so many of your videos and never realized how big that boat is lol. I hope one day to get something in the 30' range. Right now, my 24' does the trick. BTW, my wife is also PR and named Steph haha
Thanks for another great video and for the link to the free descending device. Thought Stef was hilarious when she said she was having her own trauma. 😂
Someone really went out of their way to call Monroe county to have them waiting at the ramp for you. It’s not like you were clogging up US 1. As for return em right. I’ve descended hundreds of fish and I’m a firm believer that is the best way to descend them. I don’t vent fish anymore. And honestly, charter captains are the worst offenders. Every charter I’ve been on, all they do is slice the protruding stomach open and throw the fish back. I tried to tell one of them one time they were just killing the fish but it turned into an argument about anatomy of a fish and “I’ve been doing this my whole life”. 🙄 Someone really needs to start dropping the hammer on charters more than the weekend warrior trying to fill a small limit. Great content as always. Hopefully weather cooperates with me in December and I’ll see you out on the waters when I’m down that way.

Quick question about fuel. You mentioned you can pull up to the gas station instead of fueling off a dock. Do you mean you're allowed to use lower taxed non-marine fuel? Where I live they'll check your fuel filters and tanks to make sure you're using marine fuel.
