In this video I take on the West Highland Way. 96 miles of Scotland's finest countryside. This is part 3 of the series where we enjoy hiking, some campsites, wild camping and of course the Mediterranean weather. This time the campsite was fully booked so Woody had his first experience of wild camping. I hope you enjoy.

My wife did the west highland way about 10 years ago for charity - just her and her friend, I had never heard of it. They set out to do it in 5 days and suceeded. I had no idea what she did at the time as I spent 5 nights down the pub enjoying myself and ordering chinese food etc - been great watching this and I now realise just how hard they both worked at getting it done.

Hi Paul, your videos are the reason why I realised I could do what you do, yomping about with a pack and tent on my back in my late 50's. I completed the WHW in April '24 and found out all about sore feet, that Loch Lomond bit, even ice on my tent with a minus wind chill factor! Through it all I thought what would Paul Messner do or say. It kept me sane and motivated so a big thank you. I've just watched your series and it brought all the amazing memories back, the sense of community meeting people along the way, the views and the emotions of completing it. I have even decided to try the TMB in September this year, so a big thank you for inspiring this 'tired old man with sore feet' :) Stay safe and keep on doing what you do.

Did my first wild camp in North Wales for a weekend of climbing, that was in 1963-equipment was somewhat basic in those days. I am enjoying your videos but prefer a bed at night now. I have camped underground, I was on the Dan yr Ogof expedition in 1968.
I don’t do camping anymore but still love motorcycling (when my wife lets me out).

Hi Paul, many thanks for this series on the WHW. We crossed paths briefly at Beinglass but unfortunately had to pull out at Tyndrum as my son took ill. Congrats on your completion with Woody, and my congrats also to Karina and Paula who I saw in the background at Fort William. If either of you read this, Chris is well again and I seemed to have the same illness about two days later than him lol. We’ll be back though to complete the unfinished business 👍🏼

Thank you so much Paul for taking the trouble to make a film of your and your friend’s WHW, to edit and share it with us. Your photography and narration make for very pleasant watching and listening, I felt like I was walking the trail with you. The community of people you met along the way made the whole walk look so gentle and enjoyable, although you obviously had your share of some very tough days.

That was a great hike and adventure and a great video for us to watch! Thank you for sharing your hike with us. Hey, Paul, that's the second time on a longer hike that you had that red rash on your calf. It could be 'jock itch' which is a fungal infection a bit like athlete's foot. It could be a skin condition like psoriasis that medicine doesn't really understand. It could be something else. You just don't know. So you better take it to your doctor. It would give you a bit of piece of mind. All the best ! And sorry for the lecture! 😀

Have you heard of the Hebridean Way, not as challenging as the WHW but the beaches are just 😍 and if you get lucky again with the weather then you’ll think you are in the Caribbean rather than the UK.

I think I would call it the easy way ,Totally different now, Didn’t have the amenities or water stops ,honesty stops , Loch Lomond yes it was tough ,and the back 9 was a boggy mess through a forest ,that was tough . Could I do it now ,not a chance ,in 88 a Scottish lad said it’s me knee it’s me knee I can’t go on! Now it’s my Knee I can’t do it .
