Excellent Paul.. great to see the hike from another perspective whilst it’s still fresh in the memory.
Now i’ve done the hike I can appreciate WHW videos even more.
Looking forward to part 2. 👍🏼
Oh That pizza as well 😍 certainly does the job after hiking.
Absolute respect to both of you guys.
I am about your age, and I regularly camp at several sites along the West Highland Way.
The West Highland Way through-hikers are a source of great entertainment to us (and not a little mockery)
The majority of them get private companies to portage all their gear, who travel ahead in vans to set up their tents.
They are half my age, five times my fitness, carrying less than 5kgs in day sacks, yet are bigging themselves up in the evening in the communal areas whilst sleeping in Gucci tents that they bought the week before.
You guys are actually walking the route with your homes on your backs. That demands respect.
Whilst camping, me and my mate have walked several sections of the WHW just as a day hike, and some of it is VERY intense.
Walking the West Highland Way with all your gear on your back is the gold standard mate. Very well done.
Glad to see they're putting in a proper path on conic hill, it's a very popular tourist spot and has been suffering from some serious erosion.
Enjoy it Paul it's not a race it's an adventure 👍
It was beautiful to see Loch Lomond, I had the pleasure of stopping at Cashel with my wife on our tour of Scotland to get married in Gretna. it bought back some wondeful memories. Thank you!
Come across an old timer on a hike once and was told these things are ment to be enjoyed, not endured and i think itll stick with me forever. doing the west Highland way the best way possible and taking it all in have a gooden pal.
Love it!
Thanks for bringing us along.
hope you enjoy the rest of your WHW. Seeing all those folks makes me glad I did it all the month before it officially opened (all those years ago) no campsites then just stopped when you wanted- but you had to carry all your stuff. thanks for sharing. ATB
Hurry up, and you might catch up with Good Bloke Outdoors!
And Backpacking UK
I was gonna wright that
😂😂😂😂😂😂
You have got boring now Paul, sorry, can't watch anymore. You've changed
Good bloke?
That will be the guy who called his subscribers "wet wipes" and stuck the finger up at them.
Won't be following him.
Enjoyed the video, look forward to seeing the next episode.Nice to see it’s not being hiked with very light gear and at speed great-see it as you went along.
Absolutely brilliant, can't wait to see part 2!
Wow, stunning scenery out there! It is nice to see they cater to backpackers as well. Thanks for bringing us along.😊
Good lick on the whw Paul. Giving me an insight to wot I am facing. Looking forward to to next video. Any tips much appreciated. Enjoy the journey 👍🏻
Lovely, relaxing, the way to do it.
Great video Paul. I did the walk last September with some friends and thoroughly enjoyed. Bringing back some great memories. You even camped in the exact spot we were on at Drymen😊 As you said looking after your feet is the key to completing it. Good luck and hope you both enjoy the rest of your trip 👍
Great adventure thanks for sharing
Good video Paul I’m looking forward to seeing the next part.
What a way to end day two….beautiful sunset, utter quiet, apart from the evening birdsong and a well earned sleep in nature….cant beat it. Looking forward to the rest of the trip. It’s great to see someone take it over 7 days to really take it in…..definitely isn’t a race and it’s not like you’ll be back up next weekend if ya miss something. Proper order. Cheers
Great one so far Paul looking forward to the rest of it 👊👍🥃
It’s a really lovely walk - fabulous scenery enjoy !
Enjoy your trek! Good choice of tent, my solar photon 2 has seen me through on many great adventures. Wise words on taking a sensible time to enjoy the route
Myself n hubby just completed our adventure on the 18 th April . Loved every minute 👍
Always enjoy your episodes and this was no exception. Thanks for making these videos. I’m getting too old to get out myself but like to be reminded of what it was like.
Wow that looked amazing thank you for the vid. 👍👊
Nice start to your trip! The sunset was gorgeous.
Really enjoyed that. 😊
Top stuff Paul, nice and laid back mate. Made me fancy doing it again. 😎
Finished the West Highland Way 2 weeks ago. Nice little hike. Like your Equipment, especial you Atom Packs Backpack and your Windmaster Stove. Can't wait to see the next episodes.
Easy does it Paul. Best way to experience it at its best. I've done it in all weathers countless times and there's always something different, a new companion for a bit or familiar views in different kinds of light. I'm off up that way again tomorrow morning. ATB.
Nice video Paul, thanks. I really like the videos like this where you make a journey, so much more interesting than a one nighter on Kinder.
Brings back memories,
We did the WHW ten years ago with a group of young people. We stayed at that same camp site just before Drymen.
All good fun.
Good luck guys. Enjoy it. It’s incredible. One of the best long walks in the UK. Watch out for the three wild goats. I’m not joking!! 🐐 🐐 🐐
good vid beautiful views. glad you got some professional advice on camping.
Great Vlog Paul.
Nice to see you back out camping and hiking up in Scotland nice place to be apart from the Flys stay safe and stay healthy one life enjoy blessed be
Nice one Paul.
That was a good watch Paul, I enjoyed that. Cheers mate.👍
one of the best things you said was “I just want to experience it”. It’s not a race, it’s a trek/walk at your own pace. Hopefully it’s triggered a spark to do a longer hike…..
I finished the WHW and Ben Nevis and got back home on 8th May, glorious weather and fantastic views along with meeting superb people from all over the globe, truly a majestic walk to do, good luck to anyone who gives it a try, you won't regret it.
Ahem! "Lough Neagh is situated in the centre of Northern Ireland. It is the largest freshwater lake in the United Kingdom covering an area of 383 km2". Lough Lomond is the largest in Great Britain. Great scenery but it seems to be very busy already, id hate to see it in the summer.
Taking your time is just a boon - don't finish it in 5 if you can sit and have wonderfull break from time to time and do it in 7 days.
Cheers!
Great timing, as I am planning on doing the start to Tyndrum in late August, having already done Tyndrum to Fort William 😀
This is better than just watching you review gear and going to the same place every time. Hopefully this will be a good chance for you to put to the test all the gear you rave about and see if it stands up to the test. Always wanted to walk the WHW but given it was like Piccadilly Circus in parts, think I'll skip it. Way too busy for my liking.
such a fun route i completed this on may 5th weather was great glad it was the same for you
Following in your footsteps on Monday ...
Stayed there with the family, great spot.
looking forward to the rest
96 miles! That is nuts!
Greetings from 1 of the 2 german guys. Haggis was good. Excited for the next part.
I did this trail just after lock down lifted and it was pretty amazing...best weather I could have asked for and minimal people on trail it was bliss and definately what got me into the long distance hiking
Brilliant marra looking forward to watching part 2 well done lads all the best 😃 🏕🏔⛰️
Made up for you Paul. Its an experience that stays with you forever! Cant wait to see the Inversnaid section! 😀
It was brutal 😂
Lovely video Paul looking forward to the next few looks a stunning walk and lovely scenery enjoy and I think you have the perfect walking companion sounds like you will have a good laugh too along the way..all the best 👍
It was awesome Sandra. Also..Thank you for supporting us over on Patreon. Part 2 of the trip is available to watch over there now.
Croc 🐊 Dundee Messner 😂
👍 umbrella excellent idea .
Back on form!
I'm up there myself next month on a kayak camping trip around Loch Lomond hoping to see the Wallabies.
Great video matey with some beautiful views. That's a good tip with the food bags, I will remember that one.
Brings back happy memories of the WHW enjoy
Livin’ the dream, Bro!
I did 10000 steps yesterday, nearly killed me !!! Keep Going !!
'looks like something from Jurassic park!' 😂😂
He took an unbrella 😂😂 Paul you're one of a kind mate. Fair play for taking on the WHW I hope you enjoy it and aren't just doing it for the channel buddy. Keep it up.
A lot of long trail backpackers carry an umbrellas in the US especially on the Pacific Crest Trail and the Continental Divide Trail to shelter from the sun as much as from the rain. you can get clips for your backpack so you can go hands free.
Nowt wrong with a brolly, rather stay dry with one than get soaked without one.
On a warm day in the rain, I get more wet inside my rain jacket from sweating that I do from the rain. A brolly is perfect for warm weather, as long as it's not blowing too much.
@@scottplumer3668 That's what she said!!😅
@@martinmoss317 🤣
did this in 2022 with border line fitness and its been in my head ever since. This deffo gives me the bug again
🙂👍🏻 nice and relaxing vibe 🙂
Take it steady mate and I hope you have a midge face net. Those buggers can give you hell. They were hell bent on chewing my face off last time I was up there. Just enjoy yourselves, take care.
Nice one. I did this a few years back in 4 days, including taking in Ben Nevis on the last day. If I did it again, I'd follow your plan. Much more sensible!
Lovely video, I did it a few years ago but my bag was far too heavy.
I leave for Milngavie in a few weeks. Perfect viewing whilst I review my kit list
How do Paul. At this stage of my life, I definitely share your approach to long-distance footpaths 😉. Look forward to the next instalment.
I pulled an entire bin bag of trash of conic when I did the whw. Including a single walking book, a jumper and a pillow. Take your trash with you people!
Yeah, at Conic Hill there are alot of ill prepared day-hikers. Way too busy up there. My least favourite part of the whole WHW
Looks absolutely stunning. Have you done or thought about doing Hadrian's wall? I think that's my dad's dream.
Carbonara is good. I'm in Kinlochleven now. Best of luck mate👍👍
Brings back great memories from June 2013 when I went with a hiking group.
Would happily go again - so beautiful.
Miss you by about a week or so, hope you had a good time. Adventure Food though... blandest stuff ever put in bags, better bring half a rack of spices
West Highland way is getting a right hammering this year . Would love to do it but would need a guide 😂😂
You should try Arran coastal way next !
Hi Paul,
Nice start to what will be hopefully a great few days hiking ! Is your mates tent an Ordos 2 ?
Hi Andrew
Only in Scotland will you find a Greggs at the start of a multi day hike🤣😂🤣
Enjoyed the video. I think Liam Brown also did this walk a few weeks ago. I recognised the sign next to Costas.
Filled up on toasted sandwiches before the walk I'm betting.
Still a large amount of walking every day. How are your feet coping?
I wish my ankles could cope with that kind of punishment still. Enjoy it while you can buddy!
It’s tough in places mate. I’m grateful of my trekking poles. I think they make a huge difference
Great video! Mine is still "in editing status" 😅
Was it a TH-camr group decision to all do the same walk😂😂
Loved the chook in the vid....you're too old to be chasing birds! Lmao
I walked the West Highland Way last year, so it is great to see your take on it and I look forward to your next video. I would echo what others have said about taking 7 days for the walk, that seems to be what most other people do, and with a very popular walk it is great to bump into and chat with the same people over the course of the trip. Very different from the Cumbria Way, where you hardly see anyone else doing the same trip.
It's going to be brutal. The furthest I have walked in a day is approx 20 miles and that's without a heavy backpack
Hopefully not brutal - I enjoy Paul’s videos because he’s just an ordinary bloke going for a walk and a camp out. Strolling not stomping is the way to cover big miles 🙂
I was talking to Sandy Wiltshire man about doing this trail , everyone has said don’t rush it , been waiting for you to put this out , great video buddy
I think I prefer your approach to the WHW to Andy Beavers’. I’ll look forward to seeing the rest of the vids.
Tough hike 😂..I buzzed that off in a couple of days in April. But seriously I did and it's like a motorway compared to the great glen Way which is truly glorious.much less accessible and trodden...
Oh that's just how I prefer to do things by way. Long days. Previously I did it over a longer period and relaxed more so no criticism intended and each to their own
Hello Paul. This reactive outdoor 3 second tent is advertised all over the place. Obviously not an Aficionado's tent but any good as a camp site addition or even used on a short walk local camp ?
I've been watching your videos for years. This is one of my favourites! Can't wait for the next part.
Cool, I hope the weather stays ok for you.
That's on my to do list but I'm aiming for September to try to build myself up to it.
I'm also trying to dodge the worst of the midges 🤣
I'm away tomorrow for a "training wild camp" though.
The Minigaig pass.
Cannae wait.
Youre doing it the right way.... walking at your own pace and absorbing the sights and sounds along the trail... afterall as you know its about the journey not the destination!! .... personally i'd have had a few more beer stops ... but thats just me!😂 looking forward to the rest of the videos ..atb 👍👍
Because I like Paul and I want him to do the stuff that he did before he gave up his job
Great video!, really enjoyed it, the scenery was stunning
Anyone NOT doing this route...)
And frankly taking a brolly is the way to go.
yeah. had this planned since last year and gutted to see the world beat me to it. hence the title a little different.
Which tent mate??
Fun Fact...Loch Lomond is the largest body of fresh water in GB. The largest body of fresh water in the UK is Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland.
Depends what you're measuring, volume of water or total area? If the volume of actual water then loch Ness has over double that of loch Neagh. Loch Lomond has a larger total area than loch ness but has nowhere near the same volume and loch ness is over 3 times the average depth of loch Lomond. And when comparing loch Ness and loch Neagh in terms of average depth then loch Ness is about 12 times as deep.
The difference lies, as David says between GB… England, Scotland and Wales and The UK. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
@@robertmccrea1957 that's not the point, the point is that he doesn't specify what he means by "large". Large is not a measure of anything, so you don't know exactly what he's comparing.
@@northernswedenstories1028 he did specify surface area. But the definition of GB, UK and British Isles is where the argument lies. Lough Neagh has a surface area of 147 sq miles making it the largest in UK. Lough Lomond by surface area as specified in the vid is largest in GB
Used to be “fresh” 😀
Where you driving though Keswick a couple of weeks ago I seen someone that looked like you.
Tell your mate to turn his phone/camera horizontal
