Yeah it is fascinating how a low quality video has more authenticity than TV with all its resources. Sometimes when I am watching F1 on TV it really looks like a video game with all the overhead shots and perfect angles.
Ironic how you said that TV shots and angles looks as good as videogames, when the reality is that videogames are actually a lame attempt to replicate real TV shots...
jjuradol Well I didn't mean look as good as video games, I meant the angles of the camera shots, the helicopter shots etc. make it look like a video game.
Lame attempt? Say what dude? You obviously don't play games do you? F1 2016 is fucking gorgeous dude.

The safety car flying down the straight really puts into perspective how fast these cars are. You just can't comprehend it on TV.
This one is the Medical car actually, so it's even a bit slower than the Safety car but I admit it's clearly faster than your average daddy's car !
i notice that too.. that car like trying his best but he know hes never catch these f1 cars..haha

We were at the end of a long straightaway for qualifying and after the first few cars passed we had to go out to the concession stands and buy some earplugs. I never imagined they were that loud. IT IS SO SAD THEY WILL NEVER SOUND LIKE THIS AGAIN. BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES 👀!!!!!!
The only thing that might happen is they lose so many viewers to the point that they bring these back or the V10's. I hate that they are trying to "go green" in racing. It makes no sense at all if they really cared so much about carbon emissions they should focus on getting more efficient ways to travel. The carbon emissions these cars produce is so minimal compared to the logistics for a race

I went to a race several years ago, before they brought the crappy turbo back , and, man I have never experienced anything so fast and loud at the same time; it was literally breathtaking. you sir deserve more likes
Don’t worry Bash they will be soon
Actually drivers do it on purpose to heat up their tyres more for grip but yea the engines are still cryin
You don't seem to know all to much about Formula 1 engines then. They're multi million dollar engines built to withhold such high sustained revs. The "slow driving" was warming up their tires, common practice for formula 1 considering the speeds they enter corners and whatnot. Lack of traction can certainly lead to deaths, been countless in F1 history due to solely tires not sticking.
@@corbanallen-vietmeyer6384 hmm yeah I don't think you know what a joke is
This is simply OUT OF THIS WORLD! I've broken out in goosebumps - literally!
Fucking turbo-charged v6 bullshit!
This is what F1 should sound like.
This comment is 10 years old, but it's still valid today 100%
The sound of those engines warms my heart. So crazy to think that we will probably never be able to enjoy races like that again!
Can't believe were now going down to 1.6 turbos. We will miss this sound.
Its been 6 years and it still hurts so much :(
What will be next? Can't be full electric as there already is a league for that. Perhaps a biturbo supercharged 1 litre V-twin? Would literally sound like a phone vibrator.
@@Ronnie-fx1fq that's a good question. I don't think we even go to twin charged. Surely they won't make us go to a 4cyl though... That would be actual pain
@@smothdude Interestingly we already had 4-cylinder F1 cars and it didn't sound bad at all. Check out the Brabham BT52 F1 Turbo, which had a BMW 1.5L engine, producing well over 1200hp (almost 1500hp in qualifying config, but would work only for a few laps in quali mode). Not sure if I wanted to get 4-cylinder back though lol... bring back V12s as Seb said.
@@Ronnie-fx1fq they'll go to full electric, mark my words. I don't know what'll happen to formula E, but electric F1 will happen.
I come back to this vid a few times a year. this is one of the best videos of that v8 sound . it sounds so damn aggressive
I went to COTA in 2012 with my dad when I was 9 years old. I’ve been to 3 more races since, but they were all with the hybrids. I really wish I knew about the upcoming regulation changes then, so I would appreciate them more.
Swampede03 do you find the engine noise that important because you have been going to 2 hybrid gp after the first one. I haven’t watched one irl and I want to know if the sound really is so huge of a downgrade
@@ludvighansen1864 I mean u didn't hear a v8 or v10 competing, but the first time I went to a GP I heard a v10 and it was so fucking loud, and then it was time for the actual cars (2017) and even though they're still loud, you cannot compare them
If you didnt appreciate it naturally, knowing about the rulechanges wouldnt have changed anything. I fell in love with f1 because of the sound. It means everything
I was at the same race when I was 11, the Ferrari shirt my dad bought me still fits. I’ll never forget the feeling of walking into the track during qualifying and hearing the roar of the engines. I wish I could go back to that weekend now to fully appreciate it too.
@@SuperNickFunTime my biggest complaint about f1 now is the sounds. Wish they could get these lawnmowers to sound better.
i cease to believe anything can give you as many goosebumps as v8 and earlier f1 starts
I am glad I was able to enjoy a V10 start once as a child with 13 years and then a few V8 starts later. :)
Same I heard the V10s once in Melbourne Australia 2004. Then the V8s once in Malaysia in 2012. Incredible. Sad that those times have past and regulations have stolen thoes beautiful sounding machines from us. At least we heard them once. The drag strip is the only place I can hear insane racing engines now.
Cool. To visit Australia and the Melbourne GP would be a life goal for me. I was at Nurburgring 2003 when I was 13 years old and heard a V10 start.. And was at Hockenheim in 08, 10, 12 in the V8 era and also at Monza 2009.
Later I was at Hockenheim in 2016 and then in Austria 2018 and 2019 and in Spa 2019. Had tickets for Austria and Hungary in 2020 but Corona made it impossible with spectators. :( Hope to go to a race this year...
@@manuelgogeissl Wow. I bet you get more out of spectating the more races you see. I was just walking around wide eyed sst Malaysia. I went to for 3 days. Not much support races but got to plenty of the circuit. Monza must have been awsome. My dream track has to be Belgium to see the cars flat out through Eu Rough must be spectacular..
Yeah it is also nice the party in Austria around the track at the camping for example. Cool to be there with a lit of F1 fans and a big group of friends.
I remember when I went to watch these races live with my dad. You could literally feel the vibrations on your chest that's how loud it was, since the hibrid era I went once 2017 and never again it wasn't the same, apart from the speed what makes f1 is the sound.
literal formula 1 eargasm, sounds incredible unlike the v6s today
only video i've seen which actually gives any sort of idea of just how bloody loud these cars were
damn, that is just music to my ears!! This needs to come back.
Just caught up with this, I know kind of behind.... But finally a video that captures the raw fury of an F1 engine.
I'm an old timer who's witnessed so many engine formulas throughout the years. V-8s, V-10s and 12s. I have to say the most painful were those turbo years. It was like as thunderclap when they switched up a gear. Rather terrifying!
I remember being at Brands Hatch for the European GP during the original Turbo era. Watching from the inside of Westfield, the Honda Turbo in the Williams literally shook the ground beneath you. It was like standing right in front of the speaker at a rock concert while the loudest bass ever is being played!
One of the best videos I've seen on youtube, really got a feel of how absurdly loud an F1 car is.
Can't wait to experience it in Austin this fall!
That Noise is mental , the speed in real time is surreal , thanks so much !!
I was at the Japan GP in 1977. The Tyrrell P34's were amazing. So fortunate to see these cars in real life.

I feel like this is the best video on the V8 F1 cars in terms of actually capturing how loud these cars are
"When THAT SOUND is still TOO LOUD at only 1/10 of your computer's max SOUND VOLUME!!!"
"WHAT DID YOU SAY...??"
The audio recording is so good, I mean it isn't good it's actually bad but it captures the feeling of ear pain perfectly. You can check the volume even with a decibel meter it isn't loud but it sounds loud.
I love how brutal it all is. On tv it seems as if drivers are having an easy time. When you get that close, you realize that it's literally one human inside a vicious powerful machine, and there's so much raw power. Those burnouts when they line up are amazing.
Also, I love how little time they have after they get on their ready position. As soon as the last car stops, the lights start immediately. Drivers have around 20 seconds to concentrate for a race start, which is one of the riskiest moments of the whole weekend. I have played a lot of sim racing games, and the race starts always make my heart beat faster, especially the moment when the red lights start counting. I would never imagine how much adrenaline it creates when you also have a 1000 hp beast screaming literally in your butt, and all the heat of the track.
This is literally my favourite video in the whole internet.
I miss this sound so much!
Probably one of the best videos I have seen that demonstrates the actual sound of F1 before the hybrid area, Sure do miss those days 😪
Thanks William - You've made it so much easier for me to describe the undescribable! I just give people your link! This is the ONLY footage that comes close to the real sound of F1. I've been to Malaysia 2008, Monaco 2010 and Silverstone 2011. Monaco is the only place that is actually louder - because it's such a small place with amazing accoustics. Great job though ... great job!!!
Oh my goodness. That must be one hell of experience to watch it in person.

FIA spoiled everything in 2014. Bad engine sound followed by the longest, most boring, domination of a single team, just because of that V6 crappy engine... never expected things would deteriorate so much in such a short period of time.

The quality of this video, especially the audioquality, is insanely good, considering that it is 12 years old and was shot on a handheld camera, which was probably on the bit cheaper side
A F1 race start is something to see one time in live. It s AMAZING! I remember V12 in the 90's...
Awesome video! I’ve never been to a GP, but this captures the feeling better than any TV broadcast I’ve seen.
Exactly, I've been watching for maybe, 20ish years. Broadcasts can't capture moments like this. I was blown away the first time I watched this video.
I feel you. I have followed F1 live since 1983 and the rawness through the ages has rocked my soul. Last race I attended was 2017 at Silverstone and the star of the whole weekend was when they brought out Nigel Mansell's 1992 Williams. The crowd were mesmerized by the noise and the raw driving and the smell!
Sad to know that will never return.

I grew up in Germany 8 km away from the Hockenheim track. The noise of the 90's engines was so loud that I could hear the start. Once I had on a race day a soccer game in Hockenheim right next to the track, UNBELIEVABLE and almost intimidating.... the ground was literally vibrating every time one of those beasts passed by and I finally understood why women are often on the stands even though it appears like a men's sport. For both genders a win-win spectacle🚀👍🏿
1:33 - The doctor's car is off the line pretty quick, too!
Thank you for this experience! TV does not do justice to how insane, majestic and spectacular F1 really is! This is beautiful!
The noise... something, that F1 fans always will love... is now a DTM sound!
only on TV
Why are people arguing on here which was the loudest - V8/V10/V12? The engine configuration doesn't decide the noise it's the capacity of each cylinder, the larger the capacity the bigger the bang then the louder the noise. Today's V6 are only 1.6 which is muffled by turbo which is why it's so quiet.
This should be the audio in the TV feed at race starts.
This brought tears to my eyes it is so awe-inspiring!
As an F1 fan for nearly 50 years listening to this it's amazing how good these cars sound compared to the current V6 turbo's and that's despite at the time we considered them a huge disappointment compared to the earlier V10's and V12's. A lot of the atmosphere of the sport has certainly been lost due to the downgrading of the engines over the years. Remember these V8's were in fact hybrids despite comments to the contrary as they were running KERS in 2011.
Ive been to a motorcycle race once an di wasnt even close to the racetrack and it was such immense noise and after seeing this video i can only imagine how much louder a f1 start would sound like. On TV they regulate down of course since most people dont want to have a headache after finishing watching a race. ;)
I've been to many Formula 1 races over the years and have often tried to explain to people what it is like, especially at Monaco where I have been lucky enough to watch 3 Grand Prix from just a few feet away. This is by far the best clip I have ever seen and makes you feel that you are really there. Sadly with the introduction of the modern power units the sound simply isn't the same any more.
Tru, I also believe the TV coverage somewhat mutes the engine sound thus making em sound worse than they actually are
