    Funny anecdote..was watching your video and my Internet was acting kinda funny so with the wind in your video plus my Internet coming and going I actually started feeling sea sick. Nice trip! Love Maddy

    That dog was really comfortable :) Some might say you spoil the dog, but you are just like me. I think it's ok to have the dog in the tent if it wants to. Thanks for making the video, nice to watch.

    Great videos so far. Just seen in your description that you have a total of 26km in portages... that sounds like a lot of work. Keep up the great vids!

    Nice video. I paddle and can agree with your statement about the water never looking as big on video.

    @RoboRocker69 That's ok, she likes the scratches... she's a tough one :) As for not risking staying on the rough water, it's especially true when I solo. There are enough inherent risks when you solo, you don't need to be creating your own. Hope you have a great season and thanks for watching.

    Maddy looked so cute in her bag at the beginning , now do you have some sort of repair kit with you if something happens with the canoe like when the wind took it off your shoulders and if could have smacked something hard enough to put a hole in. Or are you up the lake without a canoe.

    @scdave100 Yes, it's a great tarp... I highly recommend it. I regularly use it as a wind block and it has taken some pretty heavy winds on the chin and liked it.

    Great video, wind looks bad!!
    Give ya a little piece of advice from one bushman to another.. On your tarp put a length of bungee cord on each eyelid that way when you get that kind of wind the bungees will take the stress not the eyelids.. And your tarp will last quite a lot longer.
    On vid #3 looking forward to watching the rest..

    @69Grunden Thanks! The tarp I'm using is the Integral Designs Siltarp 2 (8' x 10'). Great piece of gear, it impressed me with the punishment it has taken over the years. I picked it up at Mountain Equipment Coop (in Canada).

    I was wondering if you could please come to Missouri this summer we have been having horrible drought conditons the last few summers. Could be the state and the farmers would take up a collection if you would think about bringing the rain here lol love your trip so far.

    @BennyBsolo The distance I travel per day often depends on the kind of trip I'm looking for. If I want to take a lot of footage and just have a nice, easy getaway I'll go for around 15km a day. If it's a more goal oriented trip where I'm trying to make a particular location then I'll beef it up to 20-25km. It also depends on the travel conditions in each day. Lots of marsh travel and portages = less km.
    Yes, please post whatever you can, would love to see some of your trip.

    @medicjimr Good to hear from you medicjimr. I do bring a small repair kit with me, which would allow me to patch up a fair size hole or gash. I also bring the ultimate repair kit... duct tape!

    i went on a 30 day trip around caribou provincial park and it didn't rain once.......the trip was great but it was ended short when we had to get picked up by firefighters....moral of the story is a little rain helps but may be not as much as you had on this trip:)

    @MaddyTheGoose I haven't forgotten about you my friend I knew you were supposed to release a different part each week , nothing came up recently and It dawned on me to check your page and sure enough I was missing out. It would be terrible to have a major failure with the canoe and no way to repair it

    The wind makes the woods come alive but being on the water is deadly. Good call get off it. Another great clip pal.

    what does your dog sleep in at night?

    • @MaddyTheGoose
      @MaddyTheGoose  9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +rithrow12 I bought a cheap summer sleeping bag, cut it in half and restitched it. It's a perfect size for her and unzips completely so I can just lay it out for her like a blanket or zip it up when it's cold. She knows the deal and snuggles right in there in the chilly weather.

    Okay....not to sound like a total noob.... is it said as "Por-tedge" or "Pour-tage"...?

    • @Andrew-vr4gh
      @Andrew-vr4gh 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depends on where you're from most people from Canada / Far north US say "Pour-tage" I've notice, people from other parts of the US say "por-tedge"

    • @gearloft259
      @gearloft259 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, I think it depends on where you're from. In Canada you generally hear people say it as 'pour-tage' but when I've talked to people from the US, I often here it as 'por-tedge'. So both are fine as far as I can tell.

    • @Scott___T
      @Scott___T 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GearLoft Yup both are good; but if you're in the Adirondacks; it's a "carry."
