What do you think, are you in the camp of those that replace transmission filters? Let's talk! There's a 2nd filter in the transmission pan which I should come to later!
I don't ever take it to heart when they specify a "lifetime oil/filter"; it can be interpreted in any way, but loosely means the expected lifecycle of the vehicle. If you change fluids and filters on the regular, the car in terms of wear would survive for pretty much as long as you want. Nowadays manufactures are taking it to the next level with completely seals units making them harder/unserviceable. Keep up the videos
When I hear the word "lifetime" in the automotive industry, I get brutally and suddenly paralysed and think immediately of BMW. Lifetime is meant until you're out of warranty, simple as that, after that period, the manufacturer is no longer liable for its product. I'd change that too, good job man 👏
Thank you. My 2013 is at 190k. I bought it with 145k and had changed the tranny fluid at 170k. I'm about to do another fluid change and filter this time before winter
Yes, never trust your dealer for service, if I have to take it for service I ALWAYS put a mark on the part of the vehicle that will have to be removed or messed with; this way I will know for sure if the service was done🧐 most of the simple services can be done by ourselves. It just takes time and patience.
Great video, very thorough and to the point! I’m also OCD about things being done right and saw another video where the guy just tightened those three bolts and I wondered the same, must be some torque spec I would think🤔 I say when in doubt go about 30ft/lbs.on something like that. Look forward to seeing the pan filter change. How often do you think these should be done? Do you think every 2-3 fluid changes would be good? Thanks for the info!👍🏼
Thanks for the compliment. Man! I scoured the net for the torque values for those bolts: it's not listed on Haynes manual, and Honda apparently doesn't sell service manuals to the general public as they used to. I don't recall what I used eventually, but didn't go too far beyond what I put on spark plugs. It's aluminium, so it won't take too much torque. Honestly can't say what an ideal frequency would be, but every other fluid change could be what I'd do. I'm sourcing the filter in the pan and should do that one too!
Fabulous video! Question: would it be easier to replace the transmission filter from beneath, rather than taking out the air intake and battery holder from the top?
Good question. Never tried, but I don't think so. For one, wouldn't have been able to clean all the crud I found on the mating surface from beneath. Also, I'm not sure how much of a clear line of sight you'd have to it.
i recently did this for my civic 2018 1.5 turbo. looks like the same however in cvt gearbox oil pan, there is another filter that was changed but the top filter looks the same as your video
Mi accord hace un silbido, despues de que le hicieron cambio de aceite y filtros de la cvt, ¿Haz escuchado algo sobre el tema en tu localidad o otros autos? Saludos.
All I can say is that I'm sure there are people who would want to be your car in their next life.😂 Jokes aside, this is a good practice especially when you have always been changing the ATF regularly.
I called Honda (parts) yesterday, wanting an internal transmission filter. (2013 Civic LX with a 1.8 engine). The parts man said there is no internal filter for my vehicle. In your experience, are there 2013 Civics that do NOT have this filter. I am puzzled.
From a quick search, 2013 Civics don't have the exact style of filter fitted in this video. Remember the 2013 Civic is AT while this 2017 Accord is CVT. However, your civic have an inline transmission filter. See this link. www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine/honda~filter~25430-plr-003.html You can confirm fit on the site using your VIN.
@@DIYAutoworksNG thanks a lot , my Honda has about 240k miles on it and I am having some slow shifting issues would you suggest a drain and refill or maybe just add some Lucia transmission prevent slipp oil ?
i am bit skeptical about volume of oil, on youtube as per many mechanic/ Diyer mentioned 3.8/3.9 QT , but when i drain and measure used oil it came 4 QT and 600ML , when i fill new oil keep the car best possible straight , fill 3.5QT , start car move shifter all drive mode for 5-10 second 2 times and open leval plug (12 mm wrench) , again fill up by reaching almost 3.8 QT it start to come out , i plug it back , more or less i fill new oil 600ML less than what it actual came out, should i add atleast 200-300 ML ? or as long it overflow from leval plug it is good regardless what actual came out NB: i did this car first time i don't know that previous owner did transmission fluid chage before and he did over filled 600ML, if any expert can share on this thanks in advace.

You struck the nail on the head! For some manufacturers, "the life of the vehicle" is the warranty period 😅. Thanks for watching and the compliment.
Great video. You told us everything we needed to know. And it didn’t take a 45 minute video to do so. Very nice!
Thanks!

Thanks, man. We're aligned. I don't trust the manufacturer on this one😅.
Excellent instructions. Thank you.
You're welcome
Excellent work. Short, precise & to the point showing all steps..👌
Thanks a lot 😊

Excellent!
Fabulously done. Thank you
You're welcome!
Great video bro. Seems like the biggest hassle is all the bolts holding the battery tray in. I have a 2015 w/98k that I’m planning to service.
You're so spot on! That battery tray removal; thanks to the location of the bolts, is the most difficult part.
Good work!!!
Thank you so much 😀

Good video. Where do you get OEM parts in Nigeria?
I import a lot.
Aun no tiene el dato del torque de los pernos? Excelenete video
Unfortunately, not. Still yet to find the torque specification for those bolts!
20 lb ft.
Isn't there another oil filter in the bottom of the gearbox as part of the pickup?

Good question. No mileage recommendation from Honda. Personally, I'll probably go with 60k miles.

No there is no way that would work. It's not hard to get from the top tho don't worry
i recently did this for my civic 2018 1.5 turbo. looks like the same however in cvt gearbox oil pan, there is another filter that was changed but the top filter looks the same as your video
I believe there is another filter/strainer in the transmission pan. That's a mesh strainer that stops big stuff from being picked up.
Yep. You're 100% correct. This one is the easier one to get to.
@@DIYAutoworksNGI would say the pan is easier to get to , you only have to take the skid plate and the pan off and its right there
Hi. excellent video, this transmission is the dual-clutch? 8 speed ?
Thanks mate!
Transmission is CVT 😐
Lols

Hello. I've never heard of this before. Did you add the correct amount of fluid and confirm it's level via the check bolt?
hola nesecito saber las medidas del filtro de caja

Lols. Glad we're on the same team. I suspected you would be😃
Whenever the transmission fluid is drained, does the filter need to be changed as well?
No mileage interval specified. I'd likely do it every other fluid change

That filter does not look too dirty. What is the mileage on the vehicle?
About 86k miles when I did this
¿ The transmission in this model have another filter under the car i mean the carter ?
Yes it does. I've bought that filter too and will be replacing at another time.
@@DIYAutoworksNG Thank you so much for the info confirmation.
Can you just replace the ATF filter and not do a drain and refill or do you have to do a drain and refill
You can replace the filter at any time. Fluid spill is minimal.
@@DIYAutoworksNG thanks a lot , my Honda has about 240k miles on it and I am having some slow shifting issues would you suggest a drain and refill or maybe just add some Lucia transmission prevent slipp oil ?
Had you always replaced the tyranny fluid?
Hey brotha! I was going to do this service on my 2020 civic hatch sport. Is this possible for my year and trans?
Haven't actually looked into the 2020 Civic. Does it have a CVT? If yes, it's likely.
Is CVT?
💯
Clean MAF sensor since you have access to it. I'd put anti-seize on the bolts when you back together
I'm up to date with cleaning my MAF, so no action needed there. Anti-seize sounds like a good idea. Those bolts had a lot of corrosion!
those bolts to the warmer filter originally have liquid thread locker compound on them . i would not use anti seize@@DIYAutoworksNG
Que pasa si le echo aceite de mas i no checo el nivel de aceite ?
It could affect the transmission or lead to leaks.

It's likely the previous owner overfilled. As long as its flowing out front the check bolt hole, you're good.
Torque to 20 lb ft.
Thanks for the info!
