The softer suspension is what 95% of users wanted for this car so I'm all for it, I'm sure the new model 3 performance will have a firmer/sportier suspension (an adaptative suspension setting on the performance would be really nice actually)

Because it still does not feel like an air suspension if that’s what you are referring to, it’s softer and more compliant as before but definitely not the softest in the segment. It’s just disappointing to me that the front camera on the nose got deleted, still no USS parking sensors, no radar for cross traffic detection front or rear, no overhead camera mode, no optional adaptive damping, no HUD or driver information display, and the removal of the stalks is a big flop for me. I loved the Tesla’s easy to use gear selector stalk that doubled as the autopilot on/off. You can do it blindly without having to even look. Same thing with the signal and wipers. Now you have to hunt and peck tiny buttons on the steering wheel that spin around as the wheel moves and also precisely swipe up and down on the display to engage drive or reverse, or use the even dumber roof mounted hard buttons for gear selection. This is added complexity for the sake of being different. It’s not a new and better way and I will stand by this sentiment after experiencing the stalkless steering wheel in an S and X, and the swipe gesture for gear selection.

It sounds like this car is a very nice upgrade over my LR AWD late 2019 Model 3. If one has waited until EVs got more mature and your old car is getting to the point where you were thinking about making the leap to an EV - this sounds like an excellent choice. That said, in the real world where families don't pull down six figures or much over that, trading in a good car with, say, 50 - 60K miles for a new car is financially unwise - especially with current interest rates.

My company car is now the TM3LR MIC, 2022 model, and comes with all the things I love: firm, go-cart suspension (not harsh though), control stalks for indicators & forward/reverse selection, proper sonic parking sensors that actually work, lithium 12v battery, Ryzen processor, no silly coloured lighting that reflects on the windscreen. I love the safe & balanced chuckability of my version, more than anything. My employer's group insurance would prohibit aftermarket stalks / buttons, so those would not be options anyway. Kind of odd that it's rated for 10-11 miles less than the outgoing 2023 model when Highland was supposed to be more efficient, but it definitely makes me feel a bit better about my 2023. I was having major buyer's remorse when people were saying Highland Standard Range would have near 300 or more miles of range at first. "The updated 2024 Model 3 Dual-Motor Long Range scores 250 miles in this real-world highway test, while the updated Standard Range car comes in at 221 miles. Arguably more interesting, a 2022 Tesla Model 3 Dual-Motor Long Range driven on the same roads under nearly identical conditions just two days earlier netted a MotorTrend Road-Trip Range of 258 miles."
I have the early 2022 M3LR with the old battery architecture and USS and my highway range is around 300 miles (I commute 180 miles mostly on highway every week and the car consumes very close to 60% of battery). I would be careful with these comparisons, since an official EPA number does not exist for Highland.
The new Model 3 has around 20km more WLTP range than the previous version (both on 19 inch).
MotorTrend did some back of the napkin calculations, but nothing more. They also did compare 18 inch vs 19 inch.
Tesla has some estimates, they give the 18 inch version roughly 7,5% more range.

@@theipc-twizzt2789Yeah, fair point. Probably best to wait until we see official EPA numbers, but this number is straight from Tesla themselves as the estimated EPA range, and in the past, they’ve been pretty close with their preliminary estimates. EPA tests have a lot of slowing and accelerating to simulate real world driving, whereas WLTP might be more constant speed cruising, so it could be that Highland is less efficient around town and when accelerating (more sound insulation could mean more weight), but more efficient in constant speed driving.

Interesting video Kyle! In your video I notice that - while driving in darkness (starting at 42:05) - there seem to be two red lights on and flickering above the interior mirror. Can you explain what that is?
Regarding the naming of this Model 3 version: as you say, "Highland" is the internal code name. That name was used in the development and testing phase until when it could first be ordered: as you know, it was in Europe and China from September 1 this year. This means that it is not correct to continue using the name Highland yet. In my opinion, the best designation is "Model 3 late 2023" because that will always remain correct, including in all future videos about this version. And when it goes on sale in the USA as of early December 2023, that designation will also apply to the USA.
My assumption that with the rear-wheel drive of the Standard Range version, combined with the Model 3's large acceleration force, there is a greater risk of rear-end breakout in relatively sharp turns on wet pavement, I see confirmed in your video (at 45:48 and 46:43).
Because I find that too risky, I think AWD is a safer choice.
So why car manufacturers make electric cars with rear-wheel drive instead of front-wheel drive, seems somewhat peculiar to me. Perhaps because with only a motor in the front, the weight of the car might be too unevenly distributed between front and rear.
I hope that the red blind spot indicator lights will, via a software update in the future, only blink when it is really necessary. By "only when it is really necessary" I mean: when one has activated a turn signal, and also when one consciously turns the steering wheel manually to leave one's lane to overtake a vehicle in front, or to turn left or right, while one forgot to activate the turn signals.
Currently they blink every time a vehicle comes alongside, even when one has no intention of changing lanes. That is completely unnecessary, absurd and annoying.
Moreover, it can lead to exactly the opposite result than what it is intended for: because it flashes so often, habit ultimately makes it less likely that you as a driver will feel yourself warned of an impending collision.
(If my English is not perfect: I am a Dutch-speaking Belgian)
    Bye!

Kyle, take speed seriously. Not sure if giving a review, looking across to see the passenger, for half a second, and gesticulating with one hand is appropriate at 200 KPH+. In just one second you move forward 56 metres. By the time you see any small thing and process it, you have hit it.

Can anyone tell me more about the battery calibration Kyle is doing in service mode? Why service mode vs just charge to 100%?
Love Kyle’s passionate nerd energy. I need a car my March 2024 and I’m holding out for a RWD 2024 highland.
I’m hoping the USA $7500 tax credit still applies and can be used at point of purchase.

Seen 2 commercials by in video sponsors (nokkia and magnus) and several minutes of flattering commercial for you tube guy before talking about the rave reviews of the sponsor of the car that makes widgets for the car. (And not to mention 4 commercials by TH-cam). Sadly, you have grown too big for your britches.

Kyle, I couldn’t quite figure out what you meant about the different steering feel. It almost sounds like you’re saying it now takes more steering wheel travel for the same amount of wheel turn? But I wasn’t sure. One of the things I love about my 2021 Model 3 AWD is the steering-very fast responsive steering without having to move the wheel much. I suspect they’ve changed this. I’m also disappointed that the softer suspension appears to have made handling worse, though it’s not a surprise, as that’s the usual trade-off. I love that my 2021 corners like it’s on rails, with minimal body roll and pitch. It sounds like that’s noticeably worse now. Which is sad, because I’d love some of the other improvements, like the lower noise levels, ventilated seats, improved styling, etc.
I live in Canada, so it’s not like I usually drive more than 130 km/h or so, but even around the city I like the sporty handling. (Though the harsh ride can get old; I was really hoping they had found a way to preserve the precise handling while handling bumps better, but after watching your video it sounds like they had to sacrifice handling to get comfort. Does that sound right?)
Maybe I’ll have to just hold onto my 2021 (with it’s nice big 82 kWh Panasonic NCA battery). Too bad, as I was really looking forward to Highland.

Aftermarket stuff which voids your warranty or your insurance is a deal breaker for me. Imagine going to indicate and the aftermarket indicator stalk 3M tape fails and it falls off. That’s an accident right there.
