I have 6 week old M3 Highland and my consumption is 194 Wh/mi which calculates to just over 5 miles/kw. About half the miles are highway at 70 mph. Insane efficiency.

I’ve had my M3 RWD LR for a bit less than two months now. After 1200 miles the overall efficiency is 206 wh/mile. I did two 220 mile trips, much of which driving 75-80 and got 196 wh/mile with the ugly aero hub caps. The second trip was without the hub caps and got 207 wh/mile. Aside from having a bit of a foul Musky odor, the car is awesome.

I took the aero covers off my m3 awd lr. 4k miles on it. Majority of that is Texas highway. Sitting right at 250 wh/mile for the lifetime of the vehicle. I never drive in chill mode. The car just gets great efficiency and has a ton of power. I really like it a lot. If I had the aero covers on and drive in chill mode I imagine I’d be getting in the 220 to 230 wh/mile range.

As an Uber driver, I have had so many people say they have been ina smaller Tesla than my Model 3 LOL. That's the magic of white interior. It makes it seem so much bigger inside than the black interior. And it's easy to clean and keep clean. Already spilt a 32 oz strawberry smoothie in the passenger seat and vacuumed it up and wiped, no worries.

I’m a pretty big driving enthusiast, I have had my Fiesta ST since 2016 and sold it the week this Model 3 came out to buy this Model 3 Long Range RWD. I regret nothing about switching to this exact car. The electric immediateness of the acceleration more than makes up for the lack of engagement that comes from losing a manual gearbox. The turn in is superb for having a much longer wheelbase car. Steering feel is on par with the little Fiesta ST. And get this, the Model 3 has more range than my Fiesta ST everywhere!
The two things that will make this a perfect car for me would be track mode and the performance seats. 🤙

I prefer to have a daily with enough room for adults to be comfortable in the back seat, so you can take friends to lunch and no one feels punished for not sitting shotgun. This back seat difference was the reason I chose the Y over the 3, but now I'm glad I did for a variety of reasons. The extra ground clearance is really nice. Dips and driveways are never an issue, but it's not unnecessarily high either. The Y has turned out to be an absolute pleasure to own and drive. Best per dollar vehicle I've ever owned. It's the perfect blend of sporty, functionality, simplicity, dependability, and safety. I even choose it over the X and S with cost as no object. It's probably the best production vehicle ever made.

I think it's really interesting that you chose the Y, when your budget allowed for more premium offerings. I'm curious how you find the ride quality of the Model Y? @@joshpipe7755 The premium Teslas add unnecessary weight and complexity that doesn't interest me. The suspension on the Y is one of my only small gripes. That and the sound system performs poorly (tune unintelligible) at low volumes. Neither are a big enough problem to have me looking elsewhere, but I expect improvements in the Juniper refresh.
I understand Teslas dilemma with the Model Y suspension. It has to be firm enough to handle the significant amount of power, and introducing something like air or magnetic systems would be too costly (parts, assembly, and warranty) to keep it at a high volume price point.
The 3 and Y are Teslas masterpieces. The strategic way Elon built the company created an incentive structure for nearly ideal vehicles.

I even got the historical black plates with white lettering that are available in my state and personalized them ANONYMS as a self-deprecating way to play off how many of these are on the road.

    Good video. A few thoughts:
    1. Jordan, try the Sexy Knob from Enhance instead of the buttons. It solves the gear change annoyance by allowing you to configure it for drive, reverse, and park. I’ve had no issues with it, and it even predicts the gear after parking. However, the indicator buttons on the same side of the steering wheel can be annoying, especially in traffic circles. I’ve configured the Sexy Knob to handle indicators, which helps.
    2. The Commander feature of the Sexy Knob is great. I’ve set it to open the frunk and other automations by holding the driver’s door handle for 3 seconds.
While I love Tesla’s UI, I prefer having speed and other basics in front of me. I wish they added a heads-up display. The Teslasy T8 display with CarPlay is fantastic and makes blind spot warnings more obvious than the red LEDs in the speakers, and adds CarPlay for apps Tesla doesn’t have that I use.
    3. I initially got the original Highland SR RWD. I was able to terminate the lease at $0 expense (lost the down payment, and debated long over whether to get the LR AWD or the car you reviewed. Ultimately I tested the sound systems side by side, and the performance side by side, and went with the LR AWD at 1.99% APR (monthly payment difference wasn’t all that high). The sound system is significantly better. The car is somewhat quicker but for us folks who come from BMWs, the RWD is more nimble around corners because of its lower weight and rear wheel drive.

Other manufacturers seem to be throwing caution to the wind on this. Time will tell once some of these other brands start to age out.

Quicksilver M3 owner here. There are def issues with QS. I have a few dust/hairs in the paint, one spot where it looks like the paint didn’t adhere, it’s pretty orange-peely, and the “grain” of the plastic panels vs metal panels seems to be a little off.
Perfect time to see this is in shade looking at the rear quarter. The plastic bumper panels will take on a slightly different color (QS is VERY reactive to its environment and the direction light hits it) than the metal right next to it. Shift to the side a little and now the plastic will have the color the metal did, and the metal will have to color the plastic did. It’s almost as if the metallic bits have a grain that’s not quite lined up.
The orange peel is a shame as silver loves a smooth finish. Looks amazing from 8 or more feet away but up close it’s pretty apparent.
Hopefully the paint quality will improve over time.

My mind isn't focused on every little situation when I'm on the highway with FSD - it rests for a second here and there and that makes a huge difference. I love driving but I love enjoying the overall trip more.
My "stable" right now is a Cayenne Turbo, Colorado Diesel and a Model X Performance from Sept 2019 with unlimited supercharging and 160,000 miles on it... The Cayenne is on the market as it seems slow when I get in it... and to be honest - the interior squeaks whenever I move my right arm on the armrest. The Colorado will be sold as soon as I can get the 500 mile CT.....
I can honestly say I drive WAY more because the Tesla is just so much fun on so many levels.

Definitely agree that the value and improvements on the 3 overall is impressive. It is the bench mark in many ways. I 100% agree that while the DC fast charging performance is not bad and very usable I am stunned that, this is one area Tesla has made little improvement in the last 6 years. I have even provided this feedback in surveys to them in recent years that the cars excel in so many areas but they need to improve the DC charging and hold 250kw up to at least 65% before tapering. I have not seen other reviewers point this out. Great to see Out Spec is noting this. Hopefully Tesla is listing and we’ll see them improve this via over the air updates to current cars as well as on future vehicles. Keep the great content coming Out Spec Team!!!!

It would be great to see the consumption at 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 mph, for each of the model 3s. Then we could create a graph giving us an idea of what the consumption at for example 75 mph. Also we could determine range for different speed.

I have a model y performance and have tested consumption at 70,75,80,85 and 90 mph and it’s crazy how much of a difference it makes. In my experience the sweet spot for getting good range and going at a reasonable speed seems to be at 75 mph. If I don’t need the range I’ll often go 80+ mph. For example my model y has 90k miles on it and if I go 75 mph I can get roughly 195-200 miles of real world range. At 85 mph I get about 160-170 so pretty significant

@@UltralifeTechThey are more efficient at SUSTAINED slower speeds bc less air resistance. However, pre-conditioning, heating/cooling the cabin when you first get in, idling and accelerating at a higher “rev” than cruising speed WILL increase the consumption of energy. There is also vampire drain: sentry mode, wi-fi updates, etc.
People argue with me about this all the time. I know the “estimated efficiency” says city is better than highway, but those tests don’t account for what I mentioned.
The 70MPH highway tests they show def demonstrate efficiency & battery capacity, but there are so many other factors.
That said, if you’re driving less than 100 miles per day, and you have a level 2 (high-volt AC) charger at home, then you’ll be good to go. If you can’t charge at home, then you’ll be visiting the SuperCharger stations every other day, instead of every week to the gas station.
Some days I can drive to and from work (moderate stop & go on the hw), 20 miles total and use 10%, other days I’ll drive 30 miles and it’s used 20%. Yesterday, I drove to school, work, soccer, home 43.4 miles, it used 25% but the odometer shows 11.3kWh … that’s not 25% of a (2017) 75kWh battery. The newer cars (especially this RWD LR M3) are much more efficient, and their batteries are less degraded than mine, I get that. Tessie shows my battery is ~7% degraded. = 69kWh at ~3 miles per kWh, I should get ~ 209 miles 100 to 0. By this math, it actually used ~17kWh that day, not just while driving like the odometer shows.

Completed total trip miles were 1,023 miles, used 211 kWhs for an efficiency of 206 Wh/mi. Mostly 70-75 mph interstate travel. Only stopped two times to supercharge on the return trip (around 500 miles). 12 minutes at the first stop and 10 minutes at the second stop. Arrived home around 20% SOC. Plus the option they give you to have the vehicle automatically. Assume the gear for you, allowing it to go in reverse or drive based off the assumptions is a huge advantage. I think until it just becomes natural and comfortable to us. We're going to hate it, but everything in a Tesla once felt like that right? Just minimalism felt odd to us. We all fussed about the speedometer on the screen. For how long? Then we realize it's kind of just right there and we're not looking under our steering wheel any longer.
