Mat Watson would like to talk to you
@@paarthgupta9544 Mat Watson didn’t drive it …
I just hope they will refresh the MODEL Y to be the OFF-ROAD brother of the Model 3, and justify the higher price by adding active air suspension, integrated sunroof covers, and maybe even an extra paid option for flood/deep water resistance up to the door handles at least, so we can trully have peace of mind in case of emergencies. (Electric vehicles can be the true conquers of hurricanes and flooding since they don't rely on air intake for driving, and they could introduce shutters for the cabin air intake, to protect it against dirty flood water, and recirculate the cabin air trough propper filters to help the air quality while in deep water.)
Mat 'not wowed' Watson did not drive it. @@paarthgupta9544

You don’t need one, I’ve driven for 5 years without one and never cared. The speed read out is literally easier to see than looking down. You don’t even NEED a HUD since the speedo is within peripheral vision and it’s easy to see, that is if you have a brain cell or two.
@@MrLSDownlinerok but you still don’t explain how a screen in the back is needed
Why not? I know for a fact my kids would love to have a screen there. It's completely sperate blue tooth setup so you can connect headphones to it, it's an extremely easy to use to control climate as well. Sounds like you love plastic vents. The question isn't why is it needed, the question is why is it such a problem for you? it's a luxury addition for a sub 40k car and just cause OP has no kids or no friends that sit in the backseat means other people are just like him. @@Eric_GarrisonObviously not for you. For your passengers comfy and entertaining.
The lack of turn signal levers is troublesome. There are plenty of roundabouts here in Sweden, and the law here says you blink right when you drive out of the roundabout (lefthand drive in Sweden), and if you don’t you will get fined if you are caught by the police.
Indeed, what is wrong with a stalk? Also, I've only ever driven a Model Y, but where is the drive mode i.e. park, reverse, drive etc. (screen?..) Also how to do you engage autopilot without the drive mode stalk? (screen?...) I think being hell bent on getting rid of something that has been the same on a steering wheel since forever is going in the wrong direction.. With my hand I can flick and press buttons rather quickly instead of fumbling to look for them or think about what button, rotary switch on a rotating steering wheel.. Also what about people who drive multiple vehicles, like a company vehicle? Keeping a few things common with other vehicles is a good thing for familiarity. I like what Tesla has done, but keep a few tactile items at my reach please!
It's really not hard to use the turn indicator buttons. It takes maybe a week to get used to it. I have it on the Model X yoke. It's actually safer in the sense that you can keep both hands on the wheel while pressing the indicator.
You’ll get used to it, you will get used to knowing where they are on the wheel. It takes maybe 3-4 days, maybe 2 weeks if you’re really stupid. Just cause something has been there since the beginning of driving cars, doesn’t mean it can’t be changed, you’re just afraid of it, afraid of learning something new and you don’t like evolution in “the way is always been done” that mentality is weak af, 10 ply really.
Indeed. There are in fact already companies which have announced that they will offer third party solutions. I think that's a great idea.
Aftermarket coming soon
Thanks for a great review Robert. I only just got my Model 3 thanks to Fully Charged Harrogate so in many respects I'm selfishly glad the upgrade is evolutional rather than revelational 🤣 I'm (personally) not sold on the indicators as buttons idea though

The best car reviews? You have to be joking or you just haven't seen content from the best automotive journalists in the world, because you are both objectively and subjectively wrong. I like Robert but he is by no means the best at reviewing cars.
"Design language crap" aka the Ionic 6.
100% agree, Excellent review.
Love everything except those turning indicator buttons that just are going to be a disaster in roundabouts and other high turning situations where we will be looking for the buttons as was the case with the old horn.
Tesla wants to punish drivers who make the mistake of living in a country with roundabouts!💩
I agree how can the indicator work on a roundabout? It's going to get messy trying to signal to exit a roundabout... or will the car work that bit out?
@@stickleback73 Simple: It doesn't. :) I abandoned the new model S because of this exact same stupid thing. Buttons on the steering wheel simply doesn't work in roundabouts. They're never in the same spot when you need them. Can't be used without looking down.

the turn signal buttons on the wheel itself is a deal breaker for me. Stupid design. Even dangerous.
Its stupid to have them stack on top of eachother.
Ofcourse stocks are better, but they want to minimize parts, OK THEN PUT THE LEFT SIGNAL ON THE LEFT AND THE RIGHT ON THE RIGHT.
Another possible benefit might be that, a bunch more model 3s will hit the second hand market.
And all those who were saying
"WAH!!! can't afford an EV!!" will be dropping their upper price another 5k....
Particularly if they are eyeing the leg room while still wanting the fuel efficiency or their children are getting older like those going from Model 3 to Model Y when it became available.

I very recently had a 21 plate Model 3 LR loaner for 3 weeks and it is a fabulous car. I normally drive a Model S and I do like the smaller dimensions of the Model 3. I do miss the extra information that the screen in front of you gives you in the Model S, so I would probably get an aftermarket screen or heads up if/when I move to the Model 3. The improved refinements of the 'facelift' Model 3 will simply make it an even more compelling buy. The combination of better efficiency, longer range and faster charging will make a noticeable change on very long trips.
Great to see a "Robert" review on fully charged! I am loving this Model 3 refresh!

The noise is one of my biggest complaints with my previous M3 and current MY. But you have to factor in that the roads in Norway are very noisy too. This summer I was driving in Denmark and I was shocked with how quiet my car suddenly was. So if you feel this on is better than the one you have back in England, it might just be verry quiet.

No need to sugarcoat it. People will 100% crash because of this. That alone is a good reason to avoid it if you have roundabouts on your work commute. The question is, will there be aftermarket fixes?

Why would you want to repair it? If you have an accident so big it damages the battery then that car is a total write off. The battery will then be recycled for its minerals and materials.
The first thing I noticed was the absence of front fog lights. Subtle changes. I like it.

The fog lights are built into the headlight units. How efffective - dunno.
@@anxiousappliance yep, daylight/running, always on and work for fog too it looks like.
Still no speed indicator right behind the wheel though. That's one thing I hated when test driving the Model Y, having to turn my head away from the road just to see how fast I was driving
You get used to it really quickly and it's closer to your line of sight than the rear view mirror.
How often do you need to check your speed? Hopefully you turn your head to check all your mirrors more often than you check your speed. If not you should take a bus.
The speed readout is literally within peripheral vision and you shouldn’t have to turn your head at all if you’re looking forward. The speed readout is large and clear to see from the driver seat.
Take a look at the new "Mini" (it's not!)
Centre Speedo.
Let's see how many moan about it?
Look at it (or not) this way.
Looking at that number takes less time and eye movement than glancing at *any* manual knob/ lever/ switch/ indicator that you used in the past to change any setting the infotainment, climate or other features..... And you DID look, even if you think you didn't.

I thought they were going to put the turn button on the bottom of either side. That's intuitive.
Looks better,
No indicator/whiper stalk is a bad direction.
No camera mirrors yet 😟
I think there's a legal/regulation issue in the US with using camera mirrors so they would have to be an option rather than standard. Maybe Tesla decided it wasn't worth doing until the US allows them
See Petrolped's review of the Hyundai IONIQ6 he didn't like them on that at all and with good reasons. Normal mirror you move your head about and what you see changes so you see much more - camera mirrors nothing so right now they are totally inferior.
Great review Robert. We still have our 2014 S performance+ which, at 110,000 is still 100% and it's free super charging makes it hard to justify a change
“Gappy”. Such an apt description of previous assembly miscues. Well done.
Brilliant Robert and Team for getting your hands on this! Great video and just too bad you did not show the headlights on as well as turn signals front and rear. No video yet has shown that...did Tesla tell you not to show this? Also, looking forward to seeing you and the gang again next weekend at FCL Vancouver!
Robert is the best in the business. His reviews are straightforward and very much focused on the human experience with electric vehicle technology. Fully Charged is the best resource for all things EV. Great review. Now I want the Model 3! (but I just upgraded my 2015 leaf to a 2021 leaf and will have to suffice with that for now :)
It is tough actually. I have enjoyed better EV vlogs.
The trouble is in order for channels to get early access to the vehicles they have to kiss the ring on the hand that has the car keys in. Some ‘tubers have been punished for their honesty. (Criticism of the after-sales of VW and Tesla have put them at the back of the queue)
I very much hate the cheapskate(minimalist) design philosophy of Tesla. Keep me in my lane and give me real switches, a point raised by EVM about the Renault Etec Megane (which has them)
Sounds like it was very similar to the previous model 3. The improvements was mostly in areas that was already quite good. The removal of stalks is a huge disappointment, though not surprising. The improvement in cabin noise might be imperceptible, just like it was with the last facelift. Ventilated seats and a new front camera is good improvements. I hope it will get a 360 view.
Just like Toyota Hilux. They are almost the same.
the removal of stalks is a showstopper for me. They are always cutting corners over convenience to the customer.
What is wrong with removing the stalks?
Thanks for the review Robert. Indicators on buttons the steering wheel - an absolute car crash in my opinion. I have been using the flappy paddle regen controls on our Ioniq 6 recently to switch modes as I slow down to stop and again when I speed up from stationary, for reasons that aren’t important here. My observation from doing this is that unless the steering wheel is pretty close to its normal resting position, it isn’t possible for me to get my head around where the flappy paddles are, because they are bolted to the back of the steering wheel. When I am slowing down or pulling away from stationary, the steering wheel is often not straight, and it is just not possible to find the paddles. Now think indicators, and think how often you turn them on or off when the wheel is not straight. For example, UK road rules for roundabouts require you to change your indicators mid way round, and for many of the smaller ones, the wheel is nowhere near straight for the duration of being on the roundabout. Now think having to find these indicator buttons that are not where they are supposed to be - and you will be able to imagine just how silly they will be to use. Unless, of course, I am the only person in world who would get thrown off by this. I suppose we will find out.
I agree the indicators just wont be safe on UK roads. Surely this cant be allowed?
I love this refresh but hate no stalks..everything else is fire

It's a tragedy that they added those blinker buttons. Not made by anyone who's ever driven through a roundabout.
A tragedy? "an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress, such as a serious accident, crime, or natural catastrophe." "a tragedy that killed 95 people" Are you sure you are not being a tad melodramatic about a couple of buttons on a steering wheel?
Hopefully they'll have figured out how to automate the turn signals in roundabouts, but Tesla does have a habit of launching features before they work properly

Logically (?) If you're on a (UK) roundabout, indicate on approach (let's say third exit ... "Right")
Pass exits 1+2 steering wheel at a fixed 45°(?) angle.
As you pass 2, your thumb *should* still be over the buttons.
Indicate left, then turn through straight, then to the left, exit, indicator cancels.
It rare if ever that you're moving at more than 45° lock?
I agree. They are replacing something that works well with something inferior. Like they did with the parking sensors. I think they can still get away with it because the car is a great value. But I think it’s a plus for the competition especially with Tesla chargers opening up here in the us.
@@EwanM11 How TF would they do that? Do they know where I'm getting out of the roundabout? It could work if I'm using route planning, but if the car only works correctly while I do that, that's a huge fail.
What does it steer like? Any feel? My early SR+ is no Lotus, but being the lightest Tesla does make a dynamic difference. Curious if this car is softer (and perhaps lesss fun).

Many thanks for your review Robert, your kept it simple but by making the direct comparison with your new current car was really informative!
Nice looking car, but those lack of stalks will drive me mad. Be interested to see what the ride quality is like….
Tesla always seem to get a free pass from the fans with stupid design decisions like that.
I dont understand how you will indicate to exit a roundabout, how will this actually work? I already cant turn the windscreen wipers on without asking my partner to do it for me!
On the current Model 3 just press the button on the end of the indicator to make it clean the screen once, then a small menu pops up on the screen and you can select on/off/auto etc (or whatever the options are..)
I had the chance to drive a Model X Plaid from Gothenburg to Vänersborg (about 1 hours drive) and noticed that having indicators on the steering wheel (or yoke in this case) was only a good thing as long as I was driving on the highway, with the yoke more or less straight all the time. As soon as I got on smaller roads with round-abouts, it became a real pain in the backside, since I often had to click the indicator button while it was out of reach when turning the yoke... I like progess and all, but some things are better as they are... The new Model 3 looks very interesting - I have no doubt I will get to drive one of those too very soon.
The comment I was looking for .. this thing sounds like a real pain for Europeans with tons of roundabouts, curvy roads and everything,..
I don't understand why Tesla's can't just be good cars to use, they are deliberately painful to use... (Turn on wipers, open glovebox, use indicators, use Android auto...)
I’d reckon that it’s because Tesla is an American car company and there are hardly any roundabouts in America at all. You’d think Tesla could bother to take feedback from their EU customers or, at least, send some engineers to Europe (or in all parts of the world they sell their cars, since other countries might have differences too) to see how well their designs work in those places. It’s not like they can’t build different spec models, they already adopted the EU plug standard while still using their own proprietary standard in the US (which will be part of the new NACS standard starting in ’24/’25).
Nice video. Thanks! All the best from a Model 3 owner in Canada.
This is the best review I’ve seen so far of the revised Model 3. Probably because you are a Model 3 owner so really know the cars strengths and weaknesses unlike the majority of reviewers who only get a short time with a car.
I'm so glad Robert hosted this episode.
Lack of indicator stalks is a big issue for me.
It's barely a hiccup to me
The rear lights are different because they are one piece instead of split, and look good in my opinion. There is also interior lighting strips around the dash and trim. A lot of the upgrades to this car are available as accessories to the current model 3 as current owners will attest.
I got a badass light kit lightning bug tech they're called I highly recommend them!!! 300$ 210 modes, it comes with a drunk light, center console light, dashboard lights, Footwell lights an back seat rest lights!! No indicator stalks, and BOTH indicator buttons ON THE SAME SIDE of the steering wheel! I'm just wondering how drivers are supposed to navigate 'offset' junctions where you need to indicate left then immediately right (or vv), while turning the wheel at the same time. The old stalk was ALWAYS in the same place and could be 'bonked' while turning the wheel if necessary... So how do you dip or flash the headlights? Another 'variplace' button I suppose!
Getting rid of the indicator stalk is a mistake , especially in the UK when your going around large roundabouts when you need to change lanes ! Otherwise I want one.

Just got back from 4 days in the UK with my Model X Plaid with the buttons and yoke. Absolutely no problem, and on autopilot it's so easy to have your arm on the door, your hand at the steering wheel, and just push a button to auto change lanes.
I was already not getting one because they're much too expensive, but not adding a drivers screen and making you take your hand off the wheel mid-manoeuvre are real marks against it.

I heard that newer battery technology (announced from CATL?) is coming next year with significantly improved range. If that’s true, then that would be more of a game changer than this. If that’s not the case, then this revision will still be available then (with all the potential first generation issues dealt with).
A lower drag coefficient in turn, means that if it isn't electronically throttled (which I assume the Performance version will not be), it should be even faster!
In essence, ALL EVs are electronically throttled, since that is the whole of the signal.

Deal breaker for me too. Why did they do this?
USA-centric design where they don't have roundabouts and/ or understand the need to use indicators mid-turn... One of the stupidest design choices I've seeon on a car and surprised they could even get type approval for it tbh..

Electric cars were a deal breaker for a lot of people. Now around 80 % of new cars sold here have been pure battery cars for years. Compared to that, this stalk love seems so insignificant. Do you REALLY feel that strongly and unyieldingly that this one detail makes an otherwise fantastic car for the money no longer even worth considering, ever? I am baffled.
@@geirmyrvagnes8718 amen
Look at the buttons.
There's a raised ridge between then.
Personally, I would make a conscious effort to "feel" for that over the first few days of driving the car.
Then, learn the position of the buttons relative to that.
.
Muscle memory would then allow you to feel the ridge and hit the button.
Excellent review Robert, have been watching you here since Carpool!
Robert et al, can you clarify something about gear selection? The interface appears different than S and X with the left of screen swipe feature for gear selection. How did it operate in this test vehicle?
I’d have liked to hear what the ride is now like with the improvements to the suspension.
Indeed
Well, without driving old and new, on roads that you know, on the same day, preferably with a meter, that's quite hard to determine, isn't it?
It's night and day difference. Got a test ride at the Tesla event in Norway earlier today.
@@leanderkim assuming it was on the LR with the upgraded 19" right?
The suspension on the current model 3 is probably the worst aspect of the car, so an improvement is definitely required. If I change to the new version this would certainly be a big reason.
sounds like a quality evolution of the 3 vs a revolutionary change
Every Tesla undergoes periodic "revolutionary charge" without fanfare.
That's all it really needs. The last interior refresh was pretty good, too, IMO. Would be nice if they added the power frunk, tho. Hopefully, it will be an option in the Tesla store like the garage door opener.
it’s a facelift nothing more. not even V2L. and they removed the stalks.
they could have done better imho
I'm listening with my bose head set. The road noise is awful, im sure it's actually not terrible. Your mic is high quality and my speakers as well. I can hear you breath. In fact im pretty sure I can hear tire rotation on the road.
Great video
Broke the bank buying my 2019 Model 3 which is serving us very well. Like most of the tweaks particularly the ventilated seats (as I live in Queensland) and never use heated seats. I have never really warmed to the Tesla indicator stalk as it is quite hard to disengage manually but buttons on the steering wheel are intuitively much worse particularly on roundabouts.
Good review as ever. The deletion of the indicator stalks seems rather dangerous and unintuitive to use requiring eyes off road especially on a round about. Perhaps this is the BMWisation of Tesla. Like the new front end view. Gone is the duck face. How does one indicate when half way around a roundabout? (ie with steering wheel half way around and everything is reversed)
Because they want to compare Ferrari.
@@GF-mf7ml Cheers. Tesla are no Ferrari, mondoe's with interiors by Ikea perhaps.
Robert matches my sentiment here "I don't know if I like it more? I'd say I like it about the same" 👍🏻😁
This is an insane value though in the ev space globally speaking for that price full stop! Bravo to tesla for managing such a feat. 😎
Is that glass roof heavily tinted now? In the driving portions it seemed very dark overall. Nice imo as it lets in so much light&heat in climates like the one I live in(ATL GA.
It does have UV protection. Don't know if the previous one didn't though.
Previous one did
Great overview 👍
Great review!
I know the exterior changes are only subtle but that looks infinitely better than the current Model 3.
It's a shame that they don't make an estate version, that would be tough to beat - but maybe by time I'm ready for a new car!
An estate version would cannibalize model Y market. They are also not that poplar in US due to association with the 80's station wagons.
Ferrari tried putting the indicators on the wheel instead of the stalk, and everyone hated it. When you turn the wheel it's rubbish.
Technically, you should be indicating *before* you turn :p
Of course, this ignores taking a turn that's on a corner, and other edge-cases...
@@logicalChimp Most of the world uses roundabouts...
@@logicalChimpnot if you are already turning like say on a roundabout
@@makkapacca Yeah you can tell Tesla is an American product...
@@Munkeh102 Agreed - especially in the UK, where I live... and for the vast majority, they're either small enough you indicate before joining (mini-roundabouts, etc), or they're big enough that you don't need to turn the wheel to the point you can't reach the indicator buttons.
Don't get me wrong - I'm *not* a fan of this change (and I really prefer the indicator on the right, cos RHD), but I do think there is a bit of over-reaction here.
The sound system is EVEN MORE AMAZING! LOL!
Great review! True there is no front bumper camera?
HW4 is installed i hear from my local dealer...
I love this new design. Current models looks a bit like a boiled frog to me. Now I feel like it is tied with the otherwise best looking EV, Polestar 2. The new front looks much more sporty and chiseled. The rear looks like they took elements from Polestar and Audi and put them together, but they really did a good job of tying everything together.
Great review! I'm not sure my wife would go for the no-stalk, button controls, might be a deal breaker.
Get a new wife...🤣🤣😉

The turn indicator buttons are good for countries where you are required to indicate before a roundabout and not in the middle of it.
Everytime I drive through Germany it surprises me that I rarely see a Tesla on the road there. All that wihile driving south from Scandinavia where Tesla’s are everywhere.
I'm so happy with what they did to the front end and the headlights.
Really hope the model 2 comes out soon so I can pick up a used one in a few years once I've had my MG4 for a while !!
Best guess

@@rogerstarkey5390 My guess would be 5 years after they show the first look. Thats based on the Tesla Lorry, CyberTruck, Roadster2. The Model 2 will kill the Model 3 in Europe
Amazing review. Loving it
‘Vegan leather’ is a euphemism for plastic.
The update makes the car look so much better. But the no stalks is a deal breaker for me. Just like the yolk steering wheel, and Tesla learned their lesson with that.
Do you have the option to activate the turn signals by voice command?
I used to drive an old LeBaron where the indicator was just a puny plastic switch sticking out of the hood over the gauge cluster
Lack of indicator stalks and drive selector will take a lot of getting used to. It’s a shame they also didn’t take the opportunity to make it into a hatchback as part of the changes.
Getting used to??? How do you indicate off a tight roundabout when you have a random amout of lock on the steering? Sounds like the sketchiest car out there.
@@InquisitiveBaldManThat won’t be a problem for BMW drivers then … 😂
@@InquisitiveBaldMan we are humans, we adapt quickly but we don’t like change. It’s one of our dichotomies 😂
@@devonbikefilms On every different size of roundabout or corner you want to indicate on, the indicator will be in a completely different place.... its like a worse version of someone randomly swapping the stalks, every time you drive the car... People just wont indicate when they have 2 and 3/4 turns of lock on. People just wont do it. This thing is built for simple american instersections and nothing else. Its really poor design for most of the world. Tesla will change it eventually. Guarenteed.
@@InquisitiveBaldMan Even on the same roundabouts and corners you can end up with slightly different amounts of lock. There's alot of people who seem to think they're on a track when driving and keep their hands locked to the wheel, not sure how they manage tight turns but my guess is their experience is in America where that's not a problem.
