Don't think I've ever heard a player talk about being in service to the instrument and the sounds it can produce. What a beautiful and profound perspective.

Feels like stealing getting so much wisdom that took a man a lifetime of playing with and for musical giants to learn. And we get it for free. Thats the way its felt since the first home schoolin episode. Thank you Tom and Bryan for the kindness yall show total strangers. You guys are the musical giants of today.

Bryan Sutton always amazes me, in that he plays incredibly complex pieces, and does so without looking at his hands, without making a "guitar playing face," and in fact, with a general look of boredom. Just an incredible player with total mastery of his instrument. I could listen to him talk and play all day long... just like Uncle Larry! Thanks dear Uncle for sharing your friends and colleagues with us Homeskoolers!

I just recently saw Bryan with Bela's "Bluegrass Heart" band, and everyone on stage except Sierra Hull was like that! She brought a lot of energy and exuberance - all these players are at the top of the game but they're so good and so relaxed they almost look bored. Michael Cleveland got into it a bit too but Sierra's enthusiasm was infectious. Guys like Bela and Bryan can rip off the most brilliant, complex shit in the world and make it look so effortless, like it's just another Tuesday. LOL

Man, I love "shop talk" videos by people at this level that have such a cerebral perspective of music. Sunday night Tom again mentioned that when moving chord to chord to keep one note of the original chord as you move to the next. After watching that I sat at a keyboard and picked a random note (it happened to be G) and started playing chords, keeping that constant G, and writing down what I found. And after all these years of just "playing" and many years of "book learning", I was shocked to actually list the chords and note how many had that G in it. When you figure in diminished and augmented, flatted 5th chords, 6ths, 9ths... One note is in a LOT of chords. And THAT is why I love this channel. It's not just a "listening to music" channel. It's a "thinking about music" channel. As I went through college I was taught all of this stuff, but now as an older man with a lot of playing experience since the classroom years, those same concepts mean something different and deeper. Lovin' it!
And hey, Tom, do you have a new discreet mailing address for fans to send you stuff?

I knew of Bryan before I enrolled as a Home Skooler, but I have to thank Uncle Larry for featuring him on some of these videos. What an absolute killer musician, and he seems like a heckuva nice guy too. I've been upping my game an acoustic for the past few years and now I'm thinking of checking out some of Bryan's instructional material. It amazes me how guys like Bryan and Tommy Emmanuel can make a guitar sound huge just with their hands and technique. They truly PLAY the instrument.
