Yup - the RAV4 is definitely a great vehicle for snowy weather, especially with the CC2's. I replaced my OEM tires with only a few thousand miles to get better year-round traction with the CC2's. Thanks for the excellent winter driving video!

I have a 2019 HONDA CR-V and I have encountered all types of weather including heavy snow. With 8 inches of ground clearance, it handled the snow like it was nothing. If you want to get a compact SUV, that can handle all types of weather. Consider getting a RAV4 or a CR-V

I loved my 2014 RAV4 Limited so much, I bought a 2021 Limited last year. I could not live again without remote start via the fob or app, nor the heated steering wheel. Both have been excellent in the snow, I have never been stuck for more than a few minutes. I wish that the remote start ran for 20 minutes instead of 10, as nothing warms up or cools down with only 10 minutes. The app is also on the cusp of being terrible & if it's really cold out, the Toyota server is swamped & I can't connect to my car.
@@MrMhmd4 I use the app most times, or If my car is in range I use the fob. (press lock three times, holding the button on the third). The app you have to pay about $60 per year.

I just picked up our 2025 Rav4 XLE awd premium gas model here in Canada it comes with 19" Michelins I found it okay in the snow so far without snows. What is your opininon?

@@Nicole.Sisson That's what a lot of folk say-- but I can't get past the way they sound like they'll fly apart trying to get on the freeway-- and ARE underpowered for that.. offroad- etc. they'd be fine!! I DO like them- look and seem like a lot of fun.. but the CVT and the slowness-- just don't set well with me. (and I wish they did).

I'm leaning toward the Limited as it has so many creature comfort Accessories and Packages, but have been concerned about it's ability to handle in the snow, mud, and the gravel road in winter going home (outside McMinnville Oregon). From the looks of your video, I don't think I need to worry so much. 🙂

The Michelin Crossclimate 2 is a great all weather tire for all year round driving. I love my Rav4 with Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9 (non studded) winter tires. Next year I'm going to go for the Hakkapleliitta 5 to see if they're better on ice before I commit to a studded tire for these Colorado mountain roads.
I had the Hakka 9 studded on a 2018 Rav4 Hybrid and most of the carbide tips were worn down in 2 winters, maybe even less. I also had the Nokian WRG3 as my all season tires so I switched to the Hakkas in November and back to the WRG3 in March as I tried preserving the studs life. This was in Calgary, Alberta. I did drive to Sherwood Park and back every six weeks (I'd make the trip twice actually, to pick up my daughter and drop her back off from my ex wife for around 1400KM total). I never drive in the mountains, but the QE2 can get very icy in the winter as they don't use much salt on the roads in Alberta. If I didn't have to make those highway trips the studs would have lasted quite a few more seasons. I loved the Hakka 9 when the studs were new, other than the noise (they were VERY noisy) but I didn't feel I got my monies worth. If you drive a lot of KM's on dry pavement the studs can wear quickly. On the 3rd season they were most likely like the non studded Hakka 9. I would definitely try the Hakka 5 though. I now have an 2023 NX250 with Michelin X-ice Snow for winter. They are MUCH quieter and better for my long highway trips. I have the stock Dunlops for all seasons and will probably look at the CC2 or similar when they wear out. I wanted another Rav4 (either TRAIL or Limited with the torque vectoring AWD) but there weren't any on the dealer lots, and they were at least a 4 month wait. I gave my name and number to one sales manager and they still haven't called me back and that was around 10 months ago.
CC2's are definitely on my top replacement tire list. Also aside from carrying a microfiber towel to wipe off your exterior cameras. A must is a significant other who is willing to jump out and clean it in a stormy icey snowy weather 🤣

Heated seats should not be something optional. It should be a standard. For a 50k car i sure hope it has all those features + a lot more like warning sensors.
All season tires might seem adequate but they’re not nearly as good as winters for winter driving. They’re not legal on mountain highways here in the winter months, and we’re just north of Washington state.
Coming from an RSX I don't have any complaints. It is probably not the quietest vehicle on the road but compared to others in its class I think it is pretty standard. 👌
I test drove a 2021 RAV4 HYBRID. While driving on the highway, I noticed a great deal of wind noise whistling throught the door/window frame. I thought the window was slightly cracked open. It was that loud! Have you experienced this with the RAV4?
Take car to body shop or dealer the door is not aligned properly. Body shop maybe better though they won’t take long ie about 10 minutes and should be able to give you a answer.

I'm very happy with my Toyota. I drove it in some pretty snowy conditions this last winter (th-cam.com/video/1Wp3-I2EC60/w-d-xo.html) and it performed very well! I can't speak directly to the Subarus as I have never driven either in the snow.
We live in the Seattle area and I don’t do a lot of snow driving so I can’t justify buying a separate set of snow tires, but these ones seem to do just fine in the conditions I have encountered. 😊

They are worth it for sure. I've had two sets of Brigdestone Blizzaks and a set of Michelin X- Ice for 10 winters in Colorado with over 200 snowboard trips in all winter conditions. Got some CC2's last year and I'm pretty sold on them. They seem to be as advertised and the convenience of not doing seasonal swaps, storage, etc. is fantastic!

I think you can't go wrong with either. The hybrid is a bit more expensive but If you do a lot of driving I think it's worth it. Plus it comes in the 2 tone colors which I love! 😊
Thx for the information in the process of buying a2023 rav4 hybrid XSE. Did the Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires you purchased impact your fuel economy in any way you know of? I have heard it said in online forums about the RAV4 with such that it might negatively impact fuel economy in the range 4-6 mpg.
@@Nicole.Sisson I went ahead and bought the 2023 RAV4 hybrid XSE and also purchased the Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires. I am currently averaging about 36-37mpg in "normal" mode. Some posters elsewhere have suggested higher tire pressure than the 33psi the RAV4 sticker on the drivers side door well recommends say around ~40psi for improved fuel efficiency numbers. Since you said you didn't notice any drop in mpg what tire pressure do you run your car at?
If you're going to drive on snow, make sure you have snow tyres. They only start working at very low temperatures. If you drive on ice, no tyres are any good unless you have studded tyres. Also note that the RAV4 has never been marketed as an off road vehicle. It is a brilliant car though.
I do have questonis--- I was hesitant on RAV 4 because they say "pickup-- acceleration" is poor in this-- and I'm also concerned about the hybrid and it's "stop/start" crap.. I don't like that-- but the rest looks good... OH- and next time get DEDICATED SNOW tires- not ALL SEASON. The dedicated snow tires are formulated differently so the snow will stick in the tread better---and snow sticks to snow-- it's the tires that SHED the snow that are NOt good..
@@Nicole.Sisson Stop start is fine at first-- but once the engine gets a lot of miles on it-- it's NOT dependable. and all one needs is for it to fail ONCE with an impatient doof behind you in traffic to ruin a good day... and the acceleration is good-- I just don't LIKE tech.. I'm old school and always will be.. NOT meaning to knock it for anyone else.. just ME.
Most pickups suck in the snow. They're great for offroad and towing but ice and snow will humble them. Even After witnessing tanks with road pads in the military slide on ice nothing really helps except metal studs, chains, tracks for grip. Also, like you said, go slower! much slower than you think you need to.

Glad you found the video helpful! I think the stock tires did just fine in the snow. The CC2s are an improvement. I haven't noticed a difference in the MPG.

I just bought a 2023 RAV4 hybrid Owning it since July, starting to find lots of stuff I don’t like about it. The passage side blind spot monitor doesn’t work every time. Hit my head getting in a lot. I’m sure I will find more to dislike about it. Should’ve bought a Subaru.

Just wondering about the cvt transmissions in the RAV4s as I’m looking to buy one; however a lot of comments I’ve read have advised against these and claim cvts are crap…
the hybrids use a simple, bullet proof e-cvt tranny, which is nothing like a traditional cvt. Toyota uses 8 sp auto trannys for gasoline only cars, and e-cvt (simple planetary gears, no shift solenoids, no auto trans style gears), and this tranny would outlast all others, with basic fluid changes as required. and, from 2025, Toyota has stopped manufacturing their best sellers, Corolla and Camry in gas only. these models join other ones in hybrid only options. Toyota uses variations of the same engine and ecvt across their entire lineup, just as their lux brand, Lexus is doing. btw, both these brand are tops in auto reliability for yrs now

I think either trim line would be a great option. I don't think the limited would give you any limitations. 🙂

Cross climates have a bit of lateral instability in snow and ice from my experience. Other than that they’re good.

They are worth it for sure. I've had two sets of Brigdestone Blizzaks and a set of Michelin X- Ice for 10 winters in Colorado with over 200 snowboard trips in all winter conditions. Got some CC2's last year and I'm pretty sold on them. They seem to be as advertised and the convenience of not doing seasonal swaps, storage, etc. is fantastic!
From my experience yes, but I also haven't driven on a full snow tire so I'm not able to accurately compare the two.

I think you can't go wrong with either. The hybrid is a bit more expensive but If you do a lot of driving I think it's worth it. Plus it comes in the 2 tone colors which I love! 😊

Thx for the information in the process of buying a2023 rav4 hybrid XSE. Did the Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires you purchased impact your fuel economy in any way you know of? I have heard it said in online forums about the RAV4 with such that it might negatively impact fuel economy in the range 4-6 mpg.
I have heard this too. I honestly didn't notice any difference. 🤔
@@Nicole.Sisson I went ahead and bought the 2023 RAV4 hybrid XSE and also purchased the Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires. I am currently averaging about 36-37mpg in "normal" mode. Some posters elsewhere have suggested higher tire pressure than the 33psi the RAV4 sticker on the drivers side door well recommends say around ~40psi for improved fuel efficiency numbers. Since you said you didn't notice any drop in mpg what tire pressure do you run your car at?
If you're going to drive on snow, make sure you have snow tyres. They only start
working at very low temperatures. If you drive on ice, no tyres are any good
unless you have studded tyres. Also note that the RAV4 has never been
marketed as an off road vehicle. It is a brilliant car though.

I do have questonis--- I was hesitant on RAV 4 because they say "pickup-- acceleration" is poor in this-- and I'm also concerned about the hybrid and it's "stop/start" crap.. I don't like that-- but the rest looks good... OH- and next time get DEDICATED SNOW tires- not ALL SEASON. The dedicated snow tires are formulated differently so the snow will stick in the tread better---and snow sticks to snow-- it's the tires that SHED the snow that are NOt good..
The stop/start on hybrids is a lot less noticeable than gas vehicles. I find the acceleration to be adequate. 👌
@@Nicole.Sisson Stop start is fine at first-- but once the engine gets a lot of miles on it-- it's NOT dependable. and all one needs is for it to fail ONCE with an impatient doof behind you in traffic to ruin a good day... and the acceleration is good-- I just don't LIKE tech.. I'm old school and always will be.. NOT meaning to knock it for anyone else.. just ME.
Most pickups suck in the snow. They're great for offroad and towing but ice and snow will humble them. Even After witnessing tanks with road pads in the military slide on ice nothing really helps except metal studs, chains, tracks for grip. Also, like you said, go slower! much slower than you think you need to.

Glad you found the video helpful! I think the stock tires did just fine in the snow. The CC2s are an improvement. I haven't noticed a difference in the MPG.

The passage side blind spot monitor doesn’t work every time.
Hit my head getting in a lot. I’m sure I will find more to dislike about it.

I don’t use it much and haven’t noticed much of a difference when I do.
There is a speed limit when using trail mode and it is not recommended for highway travel.
Are the mirrors heated?

Just wondering about the cvt transmissions in the RAV4s as I’m looking to buy one; however a lot of comments I’ve read have advised against these and claim cvts are crap…
the hybrids use a simple, bullet proof e-cvt tranny, which is nothing like a traditional cvt. Toyota uses 8 sp auto trannys for gasoline only cars, and e-cvt (simple planetary gears, no shift solenoids, no auto trans style gears), and this tranny would outlast all others, with basic fluid changes as required. and, from 2025, Toyota has stopped manufacturing their best sellers, Corolla and Camry in gas only. these models join other ones in hybrid only options. Toyota uses variations of the same engine and ecvt across their entire lineup, just as their lux brand, Lexus is doing. btw, both these brand are tops in auto reliability for yrs now
